Title: IHOP vs. Waffle House
Post by: peanut butter puddin surprise on Oct 16, 2005, 03:13 PM
Having lived in the South for a few years, I'm leaning towards WH.  I've actually had roadtrips fueled entirely by Waffle House...any love for the Grenadier of Grits??  ;)

waffle house, ive found, is a bit inconsistent.  not every IHOP is great, but they seem to present a better product most of the time.  mmmm.....pecan pancakes.

The IHOP that was here in town had the worst service ever. Wonder why they closed down?

We have a Tourway Inn here that is mighty tasty. Their chocolate chip pancakes are delighful.

I don't get out that late anymore, so I don't eat at either of them very often. Isn't it against the rules to actually eat there in the morning?

i think it is a rule for white castle, steak 'n shake, IHOP, waffle house, etc. that you can only eat there between 1130pm and 7 or 8 in the morning, but only after an all nighter.   ;)

I guess I didn't actually think about this being a late night place as I've ate at both places during the day more often that I'd like to admit...

Uncle Riny has had some Steak n Shake...haven't ya?  ;)

QuoteInternational House of Prayer.

That is the best thing I've heard all day.  Holy crap.  :)

the damn funny thing is theres an actual church about 40 miles north of me with that exact name.  IHOP on top of the sign, and International House of Prayer below.

its funny because its true.   [smiley=bandana.gif]

FANTASTIC thread John.  I don't think that Waffle House gets the respect it deserves.  Some of the best stories ever happen at 3 a.m. at a waffle house.  I like IHOP...but the sketchy-ness of a waffle house is something that I've never taken for granted.  Plus, WH is cheaper.

hey, i am from the north, but i recall a little place called Shoney's from my younger days.  is that craphole of a chain still going.  had awful house last time was in FL, not bad.  we have IHOP around here and it is definitely more of a late-night treat than actual place to go and eat.

i think tennessee has about 85% of the remaining shoney's in the world.  my god, theyre everywhere down there.  i think there might be one or two scattered up here?

My dad and I eat Shoney's breakfast buffet before every Titans home game, we have Shoney's here in Bowling Green, but haven't eaten there in years.

as far as Waffle House and IHOP goes, i  pick Waffle House, their hashbrowns are the best.

Nothing like college rugby trips down south and ripping apart Waffle House at 3:00 am. Just looking at the people in the waffle house that weren't drunk was fun enough, kinda like a breakfast wal-mart. Ihop has good breakfast and service at breakfast time, otherwise its crap!

Growing up and still living in the south, Waffle House by a mile.  Greatest late night spot ever.  I have probably laughed harder in Waffle House at 4 in the morning than any other place.  Actually went there after the tour opener.

I dominated The Awful Waffle last Fri and Sat late night.  Bacon egg and cheese, double order, scattered, smothered and covered.  Or if I'm feeling randy, Texas cheesteak and hashbrowns as seen above.  My dad, brother and I go to Waffle House every Christmas morning.  Then I get the All-Star Special and go home and open presents all fat and happy.

Go to Ihop if you want all that fancy syrup, but go to Waffle House if you want the real deal.
