I'm looking to purchase the movie "Oldboy." Which is an ultra-violent film along the lines of Tarantino that takes place in Japan. Does anyone know where I could purchase this without buying it online? Anyone even hear of it?
Help, I want to buy it for tonight and have no idea where to look. Blockbuster wouldn't have it...its a little too "underground." Any suggestions?
You'd be better off getting it at an independant video store that specilizes in classics, cult and foreign films. By the way, it's a Korean film and is part of a trilogy:
Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance ( 2002 )
Oldboy ( 2004 )
Sympathy For Lady Vengeance ( 2005 )

Nice, have you ever seen it? Will I dig it?
It's at all my local video stores and plan on seeing it in a week or two. The geeks at Ain't It Cool love it and it was a big hit at The Toronto International Film Festival a year ago.

I've seen it and really liked it.
There are certainly some shocking scenes in there but I've seen worse in these Asian movies.
The main thing is that it's beautifully shot and the main actor is incredible. Worth seeing.
It's not really underground over here, played in regular theatres and can be easily found.
Maybe it's different in the USA

I'm really excited about seeing this movie. Have you seen the other parts of the trilogy? Is it "distrubing?" thats what I'm looking for.
I haven't seen the Old Boy and Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance.
The latest film hasn't been released wide in North America yet. It's getting strong reviews. I think it also played this year's Toronto International Film Festival's Midnight Madness. I believe all three films disturb, but none can compare to the contemporary filmmaker Takashi Miike's scary disturbing films:
