Yep, and it also boasts the biggest penitentiary in the country. (I think...) We went to Kingston for our grade seven school trip.

I'm not sure which pen you mean. There's the Kingston Pen and Millhaven. Both are maximum security.
Kingston is also " arguably " the birthplace of the first sanctioned hockey game between two of the city's universities: Royal Military College ( Canada's West Point ) vs Queen's University.
I was talkin' about Kingston Pen. Isn't that the biggest and oldest penitentiary here? Like, don't they send the really bad dudes there?
Jaimoe, is the Don Jail a penitentiary?
So, are you saying that organized hockey started in Kingston?

The Kingston Pen is the oldest, but I think Millhaven is bigger. Both are notorious for housing Canada's worst criminals. Paul Bernardo is in Kingston and Clifford Olson was in Millhaven ( I think ).
There's a long-standing argument regarding the origins of the first sanctioned hockey game. Some town in the east coast believe they had the first game in the mid 1800's. There's also a town in one of the Nordic countries that lay claim to the first game. Don Cherry says it's Kingston, which can sway peoples' opinions.

My Uncle Big Top took this picture on the south shore. Notice the smoothness of the mountain face. Locals call this "Hand Landing."
