there's been a lot of emotion and love on the board lately i've noticed, and it's so fucking awesome.
it made me think about stuff that can change the course of my day 100%. so i thought we could have a thread where you post a good thing that happened in the day, or something that's making you feel nice, or a thing you saw or something.
today i saw a little kid who was dancing around when her and her mom were waiting for the streetcar, and she kept saying "mom, you'd just better WATCH me, mom. you just WATCH OUT, mom." i think she was five.
neil young's new record is still making me happy. god damnit it makes me happy and glad.
I was having the worst day of my entire life today and this little girl at the club (7 years old) came up and gave me this hug, Like she fucking knew I needed it.
I guess the best part is, I think she really did know I needed it.

kids are awesome. she didn't happen to be the kid who was dancing so brilliantly in the video you showed us, was she?
(i'm sorry you had a bad day. i'm really sorry to hear that. i'm sending big love from canada. xoxo)
No ;D This little girls name is Shyan, and she made me catch my breath when I felt like I couldn't breathe.
QuoteNo ;D This little girls name is Shyan, and she made me catch my breath when I felt like I couldn't breathe.
now that it's a new day, this is my favourite thing for today. :)
i just got out of the shower, my baby's in there now, we're getting cleaned up, putting on our sweats, about to be popping some corn, and settling in to watch the Bourne Supremacy. being completely comfortable with another human being, vegging out to some televised entertainment and not having a care in the world for the next few hours, that's going to make me feel really good...
(btw, this is a [glb]SUPER[/glb] thread, darned Canadian hippies)
Hangin' out with my students playing with Science toys. I have been able to spend about $3000 on these fascinating little gadgets over the last couple of years that the students really enjoy. It captures their interest, and makes my job alot more enjoyable!
response from an ohio hippy:
hiking. there's nothing better than being out in the middle of the woods, not hearing any other human, no lawnmowers, no planes, nothing, and just enjoying the songs of the birds, the wildflowers (in springtime, anyway), and whatever else might present itself on such an adventure.

besides Amelia, this too is my favorite thing.
i also enjoy hiking. a lot. and camping. and swimming. and making food outside.
you know what else i like? when you're walking down the street, and you catch someone's eye, and you smile, and they give you back a big surprised smile because they're not used to people smiling at them.
i think it's time i owned the canadian hippie label. i won't deny it anymore. love is good and should be spread. like honey on buttery toast.
ROCK!!!

okay, anyone who's met Meg put your hand up and tell me why this is easy for her and harder for the ugly people of the world...
While I am driving, I enjoy going out of my way to let people into traffic or change lanes.
I chased my dogs around the back yard last week listening to Good Vibrations on the I-Pod. Surreal...

kids are awesome.
are we ever happier than when we are kids? I am reading a book now "The Four Agreements" about Toltec wisdom and teachings which discusses mental and emotional freedom and how to try to achieve it--like being a kid again (except this time with more information in your head). I am going to try some of this in my own life...we all should ;)

you mean, YOUR smile, or the meth addict with no teeth who lives down the street from me's smile? ;)
Quoteyou mean, YOUR smile, or the meth addict with no teeth who lives down the street from me's smile? ;)
;) i mean both. i have no prejudices against smiles. unless the smile has other intentions... random, nice, honest smiles are the. best. from everyone.
even the dirtbags. even so.
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I see... ::)
believe me, the meth head's smile makes me wanna swear off booze and whatnot forever. and take vitamins. LOTS of vitamins. and sleep regularily.
i miss being a kid... i used to play hide and seek with the kids on my block for hours and hours until we started to get called home. we took it so seriously... there were rules to be followed, traditions to be upheld. awesomeness to be had until it was bedtime...
i find that in arkansas, people *do* just smile at you for no reason, and then you feel like you must smile back, but it feels really good to have that moment of connection, so i've become the inital smiler now.
the fresh air here is unbelievable. i love the city, but these mountains are so green and yummy. there's supposed to be great hiking in my neck of the woods but i'm such a wuss. i'm ok with the bears and mountain lions and snakes, not at all ok with the spiders and crawly bits.
JC... we had methheads move across the street from us in fort smith (thank god we left) and lemme tell you, the place looked better when it was empty. it seemed like the cops were there once a week. i had to call them twice, the chick took her man's clothes to the front lawn and set them on fire. on a residential street... meth is evil.
meth is soooooo fun, but yes it is soooooo evil and bad. the good doesn't outweigh the bad, unfortunately.

I live in DC and it can be a very unfriendly city at times. People are all self-important and busy, so when you walk around they try not to notice you. I make an effort to walk with my head up and smile at everyone that walks by, and it usually works. The best people though are always old ladies and little kids, they always seem genuine.

me too... and just being out in the clean, fresh air. everything smells so much better out in the wilderness
what's making me happy at the moment (& keeping me together) is planning my trip. i think just the huge potential for amazing experience and new places has me on a kind of a high.... i just love it.
Quoteyou know what else i like? when you're walking down the street, and you catch someone's eye, and you smile, and they give you back a big surprised smile because they're not used to people smiling at them.
people should smile more at each other. i moved out of the way for a cyclist this morning, he shot me this huge grin & said thanks! for such a little thing, that cost me nothing, and i got a big smile in return...
there should always be someone to give you a big hug when you most need it...
Roy Halladay rounding into his Cy Young form from two years ago.
If Edmonton beats San Jose tonight, I'll be pretty damn happy.
Barry Bonds still one homerun behind Babe Ruth makes me really happy.
I'm heading to France on Friday, which pleases me, but, I'm going to miss the hockey World Championships.
Seeing one of the all time greatest bands on June 9th, Television, will make me very happy.
Sometimes I help out in special ed. classes and today I got to take the kids to art class. Seeing kids light up while working on their projects is pretty awesome. One girl told me, "I'm glad you're here today. Now you can see how creative I can be." Awww. She rules. She even drew me some spirographed sea turtles.
In more recent news, my dog is a sissy and follows me around during thunderstorms. Big storm tonight, so... he fell asleep on the chair next to me.. while listening to At Dawn.
:)
spirographed sea turtles. holy moly.
My 22-month old son hurt himself the other day. He came running into the room shouting, "My bottom! My bottom!"
"What's the matter?" I asked.
"Kiss it!" he demanded.
---
also, he likes to sing "Chantilly Lace" right now. And he knows all the words. And it reminds him of the kindergarten-aged girl next door, whom I think he has a crush on.

Does anyone here know what I'm talking about when I say the smell of fireflies/lightning bugs?
QuoteDoes anyone here know what I'm talking about when I say the smell of fireflies/lightning bugs?
I know exactly what that is. Thanks for that, I'm thinking of pine trees and early morning hikes after a long night of camping under the stars and watching the bristling twinkles of a billion fireflies and their distinct smell. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Are you talking about the semen trees? Has anyone ever smelled those?
semen stains the mountaintop.
QuoteAre you talking about the semen trees? Has anyone ever smelled those?
yeah buddy, but i always called them cum trees.
This is the first time I've heard of a semen tree, and I hope to never meet one.
QuoteThis is the first time I've heard of a semen tree, and I hope to never meet one.
don't worry, they don't spit at you or anything, but if you ever walk past a tree and smell jizz'um in the air, then my friend, you may have found yourself a cum tree.
I've got this horrible image of someone sawing one down. It's not pretty.
Scrotums hanging from tree branches. Primushead knows all about this one. Oh the mental images you get when you pass a road called "Ball Branch"
I had a classmate in school whose name was Paul Ball.
Guess what his dad's name was?
Harry Ball.

Harry Ball.
Harry Fucking Ball. That used to crack me up.
in high school, there was a dude whose name was Harry Stemm.
wot were his parents thinking?
We have a Ball on this board! His name is not Harry, though. Oh my god. I have a friend whose name is John Thomas. Actually I used to work with him, and we had another dude there whose name was Peter Long.
No lies.
I'm not too upset that this thread has degenerated into more talk about cock. It fits, for me anyhow, with the subject line. And maybe for some of you, also. ;)
I really enjoy misty rain. It's been like that all day. It reminds me of camping and Scotland.
a quick shout out to EC!
In high school the names of my friend's parents were Luba (mom) and Peter (dad), so we used to run around the house yelling LUBA PETER! maturity is so overrated.
but back to the subject at hand. I like presents for no reason, like showing up with some flowers or a mango just to make a friend smile on a thursday afternoon. Or those days where you sit around doing nothing but watching shitty movies on tv and laughing at each others stupid jokes.

a good friend left a chocolate bar for me in my mailbox, and sent me an email that said to check my mailbox before i went to bed. that was awesome. once, a different friend left a little bag o' goodies hanging from my gate so that i'd get it when i got home from work. all it said was "happy spring". i love things like that.
and i love lazy hang days, too. love them.

That's a beautiful picture Clarkwork! Happy memories :)
Two things that made me feel good today:
1. The coconut shower gel I used this morning. I bought it & used it for the first time in Hawaii so it always reminds me of said state, which for me, is heaven on earth.
2. Finally removing the Trojan I've had in my PC for ages! YES!!!
how did you get a condom stuck in your computer? must be a only-in-japan thing, huh? ;)

yeah really, who uses a condom when yankin it to internet porn anyway. You're not going to get your keyboard preganat you fucker........a little sticky mabey, but I've found a tad of water and some paper towels will take care of it real nicely.

my husband and i were out running errands today and then went to look for towels. we bought a soap dish, a shower curtain, the aforementioned towels, a bath mat, a mat for the litter box, and a kitty toy because we can't not get the cat a toy when we see them... i really, completely, unabashedly, whole-heartedly get off on doing nest-building type stuff. i may be one of the few women who would *love* a new vacuum cleaner, a food processor or super nifty toaster...
i love doing married stuff. not just because after 8 months it's still novel, but because it's like, our little life... ;D
I hear you wellfleet. The times in my life when I've been living with a boyfriend, I always liked to do house-y stuff. Which is the complete and total opposite of now.
I really love it when you're playing a song with six or seven other people, and everybody's so quiet after because everybody was really into it and nobody wants to make a noise. :)
well. didn't my best friend jen, who i believe i've mentioned missing numerous times around here lately, just call me? that girl is in town. she came to surprise me.
holy. moly. you can't even believe it.
Graduating from junior to senior member!
Well, just last night when I laid down for bed, I said to my husband, "I love the feeling of my shaved legs on clean sheets."
He said, "Doesn't take much to make you happy, does it?" ::)
I have the day off, it's really nice out, and I'm going to plant some flowers. Works for me!
This thread has really made me seek out things that I appreciate, so thanks for starting it, EC!
The greeters at Wal-Mart always make me smile. I was there at lunch, and this particular greeter had the sunken mouth, no teeth look, but damnit! She wasn't missing one person who came in and left - all with a big, happy smile. I just couldn't help but give her a big smile back!

Tom's a pretty good artist right? ;)
seeing my cat Blue just lay out and sleep or do that face cleaning thing where she runs her paw behind her ear... that makes me literally take a mental break and be at peace. i look at her and think the world is gonna be ok for the next three minutes. she doesn't have a care in the world and takes immense pleasure in undoing my husband's shoelaces (put your shoes away, honey!) and chasing her toys around the house... she calms me down.

i like that i've been asked to sing at a wedding and it's an original love song written by the groom for the bride and it's quite lovely and gooey. :)

I wrote and performed a song for my friend's wedding and it was a real crowd pleaser. I didn't do it as a serious piece - I went for the comic jugular and it worked. Comedy works well at weddings. The room and crowd are easy becasuse everyone is generally in a good mood and emotions are laid bare.

i went for a walk this morning. it was beautiful. i kind of like waking up while i'm walking, because you're a little spaced out, but you're noticing things more because your head's not thinking a million thoughts.
boats and swimming. i got to go on a couple of boat rides and did some swimming this weekend. the water was so cold that i couldn't breathe and could feel my muscles seizing up, and it was awesome. when i got out of the cold cold water into the hot hot heat, my body just went crazy and felt like collapsing. so brilliant.
i also love rhubarb pie.

Felt like digging this thread up cos I'm having such a good day!
(hope you don't think I'm rubbin' it in EC!)
Here's why:
1. The sun is shinning.
2.The mangos I had for breakfast were perfect (so ripe, so sweet)
3. I don't have to work today. I have to work tomorrow but I'm taking students to the aquarium, which is always fun.
4. I have Saturday off (I usually work every Saturday)
5. The Sushi I had for lunch was great & gave me a wicked wasabi-buzz-rush ;D
6. I bought the RunThru single online for 1 pence today.
7. I found some amazing new music online this afternoon (always a great feeling!).
8. I have Sin City on DVD to watch tonight...
Man, I feel good...
