ZZ TOP>MMJ
::)
this thread IS SOOOOOOOOO STUPID!!!!!!!!! BLAHHHH!!!!!!!
BAH HUM BUG!
if (((MMJ / Rush) ^ 2) > (MMJ * Phish) == false)
listentowhateverthefuckyoulike = true;
rush > mmj...
i dunno, i might have to agree with that.
if you like a guy with a whiney voice, then yes rush>mmj. these two bands dont even sound alike, why are we comparing?
by that logic........mmj>jonas brothers?
rush=overrated
bonham>peart
hallahan>peart
bonham=hallahan

Brilliant.
I give rush credit for their musicianship and chops but that doesn't translate into better songs.
...wasn't this supposed to be a joke about the other Phish>MMJ thread...I think some people need to get laid or something...
I think you're right DC. Apparently sarcasm is lost in written form :-/
Although I'd fucking love to hear MMJ cover "Working Man".

sorry David, you get no points for having an acute sense for the obvious ;)

Let's turn this from a joke about comparing MMJ to Phish that went to actually comparing Rush to MMJ into a thread about Rush tunes you'd like to hear MMJ cover.
I vote for Xanadu.
And no, I don't mean this one:

I think they could do justice to La Villa Strangiato (I mean, where is the MMJ instrumental?)

Yeah Tracy...you know how all songs on EU are written by JJ except for the jam on the title track which is written by MMJ? Well, I'd like to see an all MMJ instrumental EP or an epic show venture of the same sort. All of the guys are super talented and with Carl/Bo being schooled in music...we'd be in for some nasty progressions, no?

Do you know anything about drums? All three were incorrect. Now, I love MMJ more than Rush(by diiiiiiish much), but to claim that bohnam and hallahan are better drummers than peart is just wrong. As far as musicians go, all three of the rush members beat MMJ. It's just a fact. Vocally, Jim has Geddy beat by a mile; along with lyrically(neil). But, the way rush touches me is in no comparison to that special place jim and the boys rub(heh heh). bonham<peart... hallahan<peart... bonham>hallahan... MMJ>RUSH.
its called an opinion douche, we all have them like something else we all have...which is what i think you are for saying someone else is wrong for what they THINK is better than something else. Fascist.
Of couse say what you will about fascism dude, at least its an edict.

Real reactionary. ;D
the caffeine just kicked in. But I will stand behind it. Its not cool to tell someone their opinion is wrong.
"Well thats just like your opinion man." Abide.

It don't matter to Jesus.
i actually think drumming is the one instrument you can be objective about and it's funny to me that anyone thinks those guys are better than Neil Peart....i guess it's an opinion but whether you like Rush or not--there's no denying NP can do anything

Funny thing, that's what purvis was doing, stating an opinion. It just so happens that his opinion is that you are incorrect. So chill out. I understand the whole sarcastic funny post, and I did get a kick out of it at first, but joking or not you have to accept some strong kickback when you make ridiculous comparisons like ya did.
Also, Peart is the best drummer of all time*.
And I think you were looking for "ethos", not "edict".
*an o-pin-ion
touche.
but i still think bonham is the best. Soul counts for a helluva lot.
meg white's got soul

That guy from the Police is pretty good too...

That would be pretty damn cool.
I am huge Rush fan, even though I wouldn't necessarily disagree with the typical criticisms they receive. the sometimes (ok, a lot of times) cheesy lyrics and synth sounds, and the screechy vocals... don't bother me at all. They have a certain something no other band has. for sure, Jim James and many others are much more impactful singers than Geddy Lee. but Geddy's voice has a certain quality that I really love listening to. however, the best part of any Rush song is usually the instrumental jam in the middle - which makes me think - I need to listen to Free Will, um, RIGHT NOW.
it's on - live version from 'Different Stages'
oh man, that shit is intense, no matter how many times i hear it. there is not one instrument that is dominating the others. they are all dominating, together. the crowd reaction is HUGE.
Alex Lifeson can play such a wide variety of styles and moods... when he gets really ethereal, he provides the perfect counterweight to Geddy's and Neil's asskicking rhythm.
Yeah, I would say Bonham has more soul, and maybe Danny Carey has the perfect mix of soul and dynamics. but no drummer thrills me more than Neil Peart. if any band deserves to be called Rush, it's Rush.

Who isn't? I was given my first Rush album for my 18th this year and I thought Neil Pert was just amazing.
Wow. All of a sudden it's cool to like Rush. That's the Colbert bump for ya!
I respect their musicianship but have never liked their music.

cool? are you kidding? do you think i enjoy admitting that i read neil peart's blog? ;D (btw, it's AWESOME--you should see his pics of the pacific northwest)

The Rolling Stone, the one with Obama and the write up of the boys from bonnaroo also has an article how Rush = Dork Rock. It was actually a really good article...
Michael Shrieve > any other drummer. Just check out his drum solo on Soul Sacrifice from Woodstock...soundtrack or DVD. ;)
RUSH = MMJ
both bands have a great sense of humor.

Gene Krupa=Great, awesome drummer, but I can't believe Buddy Rich hasn't been named because Buddy=God...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgeX9iYOFSQ
and this one...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQwBdHsVGag... that old dude gets down... and, i wanted to aplogize, newt. i realize my response was rather doushe-y.. believe me, i have nothing against bonham or hallahan. both great and distinct drummers. just want to say sorry, man.
all good in the hood purv. That chick that was Lenny kravitz's drummer is pretty bad ass too. Isnt she in the new Volkswagen campaign?
what other drummers play with 747 wooden tipped rocks?
present!
