Title: Will Oldham
Post by: realdeal on Oct 22, 2007, 12:13 PM
I saw Will leaving Lemongrass Cafe yesterday afternoon. I think the first time I have ever seen him in public. The funning thing was he was driving a Mercedes Benz. Anyone in Louisville ever see him out and about.

I have seen him walking down bardstown road a time or two. Someone (I can't remember who) told me one time they saw him walking down the street wearing some short ass cut-offs and a tiny shirt and his balls were hanging out... literally hanging out.
Velocity may have wrote something about that incident as well... it could have also been hearsay.

The most recent time I saw him though was at the Wild and Woolly 10th anniversary show when he played "I See a Darkness" from start to finish and rocked my socks (cept I was wearing flipidy flops).

Is that you realdeal? I wish I had a picture like that with cut offs and a tiny walking stick.

What a great picture!
I've had I See A Darkness for a few years now but didn't starting digging into his catalog until last year.
He's definitely one of my favourite artists & he's near the top of my 'artists I want to see live' list.
He came to Japan a few years ago, fingers crossed he'll come again.

I honestly can't decide whether I love or hate this guy. I honestly love The Letting Go and Master and Everyone, yet I picked up an earlier album and there was so much blatant sexual imagery that it took away from the beautiful mystique of these later albums in a way. I can't figure him out. I want to see him as a beautiful great poet, but then some of his stuff is just so crass and blatant that it couldn't be, but it still somehow is, and it turns out that I just don't like it. It's such a fine line. Anybody else walking it with me?

don't have it on my iTunes yet, but it's Ease Down the Road. some imagery on there that just didn't sit right with me.

My favorite time period for Will Oldham was when he was calling himself palace brothers, and my favorite album by far is "Days in the Wake".  I love this album so much, if you've never heard it then you owe it to yourself to give it a spin. For me the albums he's made as Bonnie Prince, etc. have been hit or miss, but "Days in the Wake" will always rank up there as one beautiful album.

Like when Jim sings about spanking it with a shower head. Toughen up junior.
