Title: Good Eating
Post by: EC on Sep 21, 2005, 09:17 AM
Things that I love that are good for you and why:

-organic brown rice - hearty, fibrous, cleansing, soaks up toxins (good for your liver), and tasty
-lemon - a terrific thing.  Lemon in your water before you eat helps prepare your stomach for food.  High in vitamin c, and helps restore pH balance in your blood.
-olive, flax and hempseed oils - raw and unheated - high in your omegas, good for the skin, good source of vitamin e, great for yer body processes
-apples - soooo good.  I love an apple in the morning.
-black coffee - not good for you, but definitely better than coffee with cream or sugar - cream in your coffee makes the coffee have an acidic effect on your body, where it doesn't when it's black
-raw sugar - as opposed to white sugar, actually has nutrients and your body takes longer to process it, so it's less likely to spike your blood sugar levels

:)

(listen, I drink a lot and I smoke and I eat a lot of crap, too.  Because I have to be balanced. ;))

i still eat crap too, chips, the occasional hot dog, red meat, candy bars, blah blah blah.  ive been without fast food for a month which is something i plan to stick by.  i dont drink caffeinated things except tea and coffee.

i try to eat vegetarian maybe about 25% of the time, for balance.

here are my good things:

olive oil - lowest in fat, calories, i mean look at the longevity of italians.

soy milk - it can and does taste good.  it has more calcium fewer calories, and not pumped full of hormones.  cow juice is not good for you, folks.

seitan - pure wheat gluten.  its huge on protein, low on calories and honestly tastes horrible alone, however, its the beat "meat" for stir fry ever.  doubters, let me prove you wrong.

pomegranate juice - nectar of the gods.  its the most powerful anti-oxidant out there, delicious!

im sure ill think of more, later.   :)

soy milk is great, but you have to be careful of it - most people develop an insensitivity to it if you have it too much.  You also MUST use organic soy milk.  Plus, with all things soy, too much actually is bad for you.  It inhibits your ability to absorb iron (bad for women, well, and men too).  A good substitute is rice milk.  Again, go organic.  Switch 'er up.  I do love a soy latte.

And gar is right about gluten - a lot of people cannot digest it.  Most people have wheat issues because of how much wheat we eat, and how much it's been fucked with.

Green tea is really great for you.  A glass of red wine a day is good for you.  Water is soooo good for you.  I haven't tried pomegranate juice yet, but I've been hearing great things.  Plus, I really like a pomegranate. :)

Kiwis are awesome for you.

I don't eat a lot of meat, either, but I do love some steak.  And I really love fish.

yep.

venison (deer meat), elk, or antelope.  theyre all very similar animals.  the meat is insanely lean, low calories, huge amounts of protein.

I'm way into some venison.  My uncle and I hunt about once a year, and we always make venison soup afterwards....mmmm...so good!

There is this awesome restaurant near my Dad's farm.  It's in one of those rounded buildings made of tin (what're those called again?  something hut?)  Anyhow, they serve all kinds of game meat: ostrich, venison, elk...  I'm trying to remember all the kinds.  And they do it all so well.  It's really really good.

if any of you are ever in the cincinnati area, go to JUNGLE JIM's.  its over 4 acres in size.  basically, if they dont have it, you dont need to eat it.  they have foods (extensive sections, too) from over 80 countries, fresh fish market, bakery.  hell their wine section is the size of half a regular grocery store.

I'm not a very healthy eater... but sometimes I eat a salad.

(with shitloads of Ranch, which totally negates the purpose of eating a salad)

Did I ever tell you about when Chad was over?  That dude needed a healthy dinner so I made quinoa and red beans and a salad.  heh.  He said he could only eat the salad if we got some ranch dressing, so we got a jar of it.

And I think he put half the jar on the salad.  ;)

The quinoa wasn't really a big hit, either.  hahaha...

Speaking of, and back on topic, quinoa is reallly good for you.  It's an ancient grain and it has the highest protein content of the grains.  It tastes good (in my opinion), and it's gluten free.  It's kiiiiind of like rice.

Well, if you had a bag of roasted chicken chips with a coke on your way to breakfast, and then you began your breakfast with an appetizer of poutine and a beer, and then your actual breakfast was chicken-fried steak and eggs and homefries, then you're very alike. ;)

As if.  Listen to me.  The other day I ate an entire bag of brownies.  So, whatevs.

I just had the most unhealthy Italian Hoagy sandwich.  It was delicious and heart clogging at the same time...

That's it.  Fuck everything, here's what I'm going to do tonight:

1. Crack open my expensive bottle of wine because it's so good and I can't wait to drink it
2. Make green curry with garlic, rapini, broccoli, zucchini, onions, tempeh and steamed greens and put it on brown rice
3. Go to practise

You know what?  I might even smoke a little weed.  I think I even have a special cookie left in the freezer.

Yep.  All are welcome to come.  Shelby's sick, though, so you can't make out with her. ;)

It's amazing how much I eat raw here in Japan.

Back home in the UK we're taught that raw eggs etc are dangerous (which we all know is a FACT due salmonella (did I spell that right?)) but since I got here I eat so much raw food - eggs, fish, even chicken & beef sometimes.

So if I don't post for a few weeks you can all therefore presume that I have food poisoning!

Chicken is not all right raw.  Where are you eating raw chicken?!

Due to it's intestines, right?
In Sushi restaurants!

Nope.  Steak tartar.  mmm.

But chicken.  Hm, dragonboy, I'm not sure why...  But...  But nothin'.  I don't know shit.  I just have always known how sick you can get from eating raw chicken.  But maybe the Japanese know the parts that won't make you sick?

I agree with you 100% EC.
Back at the school in the UK we were taught lots about raw eggs & undercooked chicken & all about how it must be re-heated etc etc.
Don't worry, I've only had it a few times! & guess what? it tastes like chicken!  ;)

It is tasty stuff. We've gotten more into special grains and stuff to be healthier. Not sure how it is in CA, but the shit ain't cheap. It's like $12 for a 1 lb bag at my local megamart.

I discovered quinoa last year.  I love it if it is cooked in chicken stock instead of water.  I think it needs some help flavor wise (so I add tons of cilantro and roasted red peppers) but it has good protein content and it's a nice variation from rice. .
