Title: Jacketfest 09
Post by: aMillionDreams on Mar 04, 2009, 07:13 PM
I've had a lot of people already say they hope there is a Jacketfest this year, so let's see what we can get together.

The first Jacketfest was a small gathering in Cave City, Kentucky in July of 07. Although we were a small group and mother nature treated us to a drought-breaking downpour we had a hell of a time. We had a couple bands, a lot of games, we talked and played music, and lifelong friends were made. We also had people from as far as California and New York.

I'd love to do something like this again.  Last year we talked about renting a place out.   I'd really like to do it at someone's residence or land, but it was nice having a bathhouse and electricity in the middle of the woods without running a generator.

Anyway, who's interested?  What ideas do you all have for the what-have-you?

I'm into it.  Let's have it someplace near a place where I can get some hot chicken afterwards. (Prince's in Nashville for example)

I'm interested. I know a few peeps that dont hang out here that are interested too. I am always looking to meet good people and it seems like you all got that going on here. I'm pretty easy to please. Camping, sitting around the fire, talking, drinking, canoeing, hiking, music (of course) are all the fixin's for a successful get together for me. I dont have land or space to provide (well depending on how many will show up,) but I would be more than ok with throwing down for a campsite or the rental of a campground. If someone else wants to provide a space for us, I will be happy to contribute whatever I can for our weekend.  ;)

I'm into it as long as it doesn't conflict with the summer festies.  Sounds like fun!

I've never had hot chicken but I heard a thing on NPR about the phenom a couple years ago and have been dreaming of visiting Tennessee ever since.  I have a very very high tolerance for heat.  I'm a hot lover.  And by that I mean I love to eat hot things.  Um, never mind. :-/

Sorry about hijacking this thread aMD, but seriously, this would be a great two-fer!!! :o

I'm in with Teo.  And I don't have hot chicken from Prince's but I would bring homemade chicken and noodles for everyone.
Dylan, I would like a place with bathrooms(flushing toilets preferably) and electricity would be nice.
Be kind to us old people. ;)

I'M IN!

well, i WANT to be in.  just depends on the date and all.

i liked the cave city spot meg found for the last fest.  the only downside was not having a lot to do around the campground during the day (hiking, for instance).

the more of us there are, the more we guarantee no creepy drifter dudes in the camp area.

cave city was terrific too because it was close to louisville.

like crazylove, i am also a fan of the flushing toilets and running water.

perhaps we can find a small state or national park camp area.  the reason i suggest small is so that there are fewer non-fest campers.  i just wouldn't want to impinge on someone's weekend of solitude and nature with our rambunctious goings-on and clambake-age.

i will make a trip to AAA to pick up a Kentucky travel guide to start looking for possible camp/private locations.

YEAH, DYLAN!  [smiley=beer.gif]

time to start working on my peep-tossing and corn-hole skillz.

I think that is one of the one's I looked up the other night.

Roo is in June. Lolla is the weekend of Aug 7-9. I'm in a wedding Aug 15 (the "outsiders" that want to join us are getting hitched)

Would the weekend of Aug 1 work for everyone? Is that when Dragonboy is stateside?

I'm sure it will be difficult to find a weekend that works for everyone.....but hopefully we can figure something out!  :)

That weekend works for me, but I'll have to run it by the wife, August 1 is our five year anniversary.  That time is perfect for me.  Of course we will also have to check if the campground is available or not on the weekend we choose.  Or maybe we should hold the date firm and a place that can accommodate us.

I'm excited so many peeps are planning on coming.  I can't wait to meet you all and catch up with the ones I already know.

I think 50 is a reasonable number to look for, for those looking for spots.  Thank you all for your help.

RCCOLA: where are you coming from? I bet you can find someone to hitch a ride with! I rode Greyhound once and I don't ever want to do that again! I was on a full bus, in the window seat and this sccccuuuuurrrry man sat right next to me and proceeded to touch himself for about 2 hours until we arrived in Chicago. I felt so violated and disgusted. Now I can look back and laugh, but at the time I was dying a lil bit inside with every passing moment. :'(

Ok, I'm guessing there's not a lot of interest in doing it forecastle weekend and I'm cool with that.  All my local friends think it's crazy to do it the same day.  I know it would be more convenient for out-of -towners but I'd like Jaketfest to be its own event.  That doesn't mean we can't get together the weekend of forecastle and lebowski, it just means you'll have two reasons to come to da ville (or somewhere thereabouts)!

So what's another date that might work for Jacketfest?  Where my peeps at?

I am fortunate that I have the latitude to be fairly flexible. The only weekend that is totally out is the Forecastle weekend. I feel that camping in the woods is the best venue however...

We're already almost through May.  It may be time to pin down a date.  We could shoot for Fourth of July weekend or the weekend after forecastle, the 17-19.  I think I'll call the campground here in Louisville that Forecastle is using and see what their deal is.

I don't think there will be a proper Jacketfest this year, but a lot of us will be meeting up the weekend of Forecastle, July 10-12.  We ought to arrange a time and place that all the forum peeps can get together.

Anything set yet?

I don't think there will be a proper Jacketfest this year, but a lot of us will be meeting up the weekend of Forecastle, July 11-13.  We ought to arrange a time and place that all the forum peeps can get together.

Agreed! 7-11 if possible please... :)

Well I think that weekend could be declared "Jacketfest Weekend" instead of officially JacketFest. Maybe we can all meet up going to that Lebowski fest BH was talking about unless anyone will be at Forecastle feigning to see Widespread Picnic....

Teo (and possibly Dark) will probably only be there Sat it sounds like, so maybe that's the best day?

I'd be down for grabbing a couple lanes at the Lebowski Fest Bowling Party.  Bowling party starts at 8 and I'm pretty sure it lasts until 3 or 4, I'll check.  I'll email Will, he is a big Jacketfan from back in the day, maybe he'll let us reserve a few lanes or at least come by and say hi.

Does that work for everyone else?  It will be $25 in advance but it should be a good time.  Bowling, white Russians, hanging with peeps and achievers...

i think it's great and if people don't want to do THAT, we can have a backup.

i'm pretty sure a lot of us will be at the black crowes show beforehand, which probably will not let out till 8:30ish...

Thanks for bumping this! I think we all should camp at the suggested site for Forecastle and take shuttles back and forth. I would be willing to stay most of the time and keep an eye on things. Security detail for TEO... ;)

Pie should be classified as a seperate food group. Especially old school pies like Chess, Shufly, Black Bottom, etc.

Ok, so here is my cracked out crazy idea.

Have a Jacketfest/Meet and Great/Soiree/Shindig the weekend that Louisville has their marathon. 2009 apparently was Oct 18. I'm planning on running 2010. A couple others have mentioned they might be in. Certainly anyone up can do it. I plan to make is a long weekend in town anyway so I can take in some good places to eat, meet up with peeps, run, hopefully catch a show if any good ones are then, and certainly partake in consuming my body weight in pie and ice from from this place.

http://www.piekitchen.com/

I think it would be great to have a team of Forum peoples running in a group (certainly homemade silk screen shirts can be employeed). Non runners can certainly cheer the runners on if they want. The rest of the weekend can have drinking, fires, music, general tomfoolery and mayhem.

Thoughts, ideas, comments, concerns? I am by no means a party planner (or a great thinker). Just a guy who wants to run, meet up with some cool ass people, see a fantastic city, eat some great food, and have a blast.

I'm not a runner, but it's a good idea. I'm always down to hang whenever peeps are in town, I just don't plan on running 26+ miles. Hopefully you can generate some interest. Maybe a new thread?  :-/

Do they have a 5K, 10K, & 1/2 marathon too or is it just a marathon? I dont think I'll be prepared for a full marathon quite yet, but I will def do one of the shorter runs. I think this is a great idea. We can be extra super healthy and then have lots of pie, ice cream and punish our livers. I'M IN!

I plan pretty much everything for my circle of friends so count me in to lend a hand.

I do believe they have a 1/2. I didn't look to see if there was anything shorter. Usually its a 1/2 and full.

I can do a new thread.

The Louisville Marathon (& 1/2 Marathon) is in October same weekend as Columbus

This JUST might inspire me to run longer than 40 minutes!  Yay.  I'm excited about this.  I'm not really sure you can call what I do "running", at my best I run a 10 minute mile.  More time to soak in the ville I spose. ::)

Good, then I have someone to pace with since Penny pretty sprints her races.
