Hey CC,
You are a curious mystery to me, me here on this forum oh I don't know (you probably know) how long. You're like a deity to me. [smiley=engel017.gif]
Anyway, I'm noticing in the past year a lot of ticket trading and poster trading, fan-made t-shirts and stickers, other items of the same sort.
Might we create a whole new part of the forum, call it something like "Marketplace"? Perhaps another for "Tickets"?
I love visiting the Shows page, but there's a bunch of poster sales happening there, a lot of ticket sales in all the latest threads, and I'd like the Shows section to be about the shows, not the merch, the offers (though we is a generous bunch. never sell above face), etc.
I'd like to return the Shows section to what it was when I first joined, about live My Morning Jacket. I don't remember nearly as much ticket and poster threads during the 2008 tour, but perhaps my memory is unreliable. If I'm wrong, all the more reason to do this.
Didn't know how else to reach you, though its best to toss these ideas into the ring and see what the rest think.
Appreciate it.

Great idea. Agreed. :)
I wouldn't mind, let me discuss that with the other deities in our team ;)
in the meantime, everyone say agree or disagree
Good suggestion johnny boy. Aye
Great idea! Definitely agree
it's definitely a good idea. having a subforum or an entire section devoted to ticket extras and whatnot would really help with the clutter in the shows section for sure. good idea johnny. [smiley=thumbup.gif]

Hell ya! (agree...;)

I agree the shows forum has been muddy lately, but there has been a lot going on. When the shows stop there won't be as much traffic in there.
This aMD, not Crazylove.

I hear what you're saying about the recent "muddy"-ness, which may subside. And I don't want to turn this site into a MMJ-centric eBay.
I just thought it might benefit us and, more especially, newcomers, to have a specific section, or subsection of Shows, dedicated to tickets (looking, extras, trades, etc.) and somewhere for folks looking for or having MMJ-related items to buy/sell/trade.
I think some of the threads in the Shows section on posters should remain, when we're curious as to the art, the artists, etc. But if someone has a poster to sell or is hoping to find an extra, the Marketplace would give us a chance to sell to/buy from fellow fans.
Granted, for people looking to make big profit on items, they should use eBay. I'd love for our Marketplace, should it come to fruition, to be in the spirit of helping each other and be fair about price. That's what I've loved about ticket threads; they're always about face and fees.
And, of course, there are my bumper stickers and el chode's clock arms t-shirts as examples of fan-made items being sold for cost. Poster artists and MMJ's own merch companies could post there, as well.
Keep the feedback coming. We currently have 5 MMJ-specific sections to this forum: The Band, The Music, The Shows, The Tapings, and The Tabs. We have two "off topic" sections: Off Topic Ramblings and Other Music. Perhaps, instead of adding to those, we just put a permanent Sticky Topic for Tickets on the Shows section, next to the Setlist Archive and a Marketplace thread in the Sticky Topics part of The Band section, next to "How did y'all stumble upon MMJ?".
Perhaps those in agreement could chime in as to whether they'd like these 2 new sections to join the ranks of the original 7 main sections or become sticky topics within existing sections. I'll take either, as I think its a good idea regardless of how its done.

the key to it is to make sure it's an equal exchange/barter type thing. like the "ticket trading & extras" section or something.
it's gotta have rules or nothing will stop scalpers from PM'ing people and whatever. as long as it's a "trade" type thing and the entire commerce part is taken out of the equation it should work. the real question is how do you do that?
having a new section would without a doubt help get those extra tickets sold faster. half the time the offers are inside threads about the shows themselves.
Yeah, Sticky, I thought about whether or not a new Marketplace section or sticky topic would require rules. For simplicity, I'd say "no" to any stated rules. We haven't needed them before, not sure how it would be enforced without a lot more work from the forum admins, and I would hope scalpers would stay away, as we wouldn't be offering any kind of auction services.
Then again, I've paid above face to upgrade my Birmingham seat last April from 22nd to 4th row and have spoken with other forum members who sometimes pay above face for choice seats. Maybe having that option show up on a Tickets section isn't as unwanted as we might think.
Upon reflection, I would have to say that this idea won't work well if we simply add sticky topics to existing forum sections. We need the ability to create threads specific to the shows (for tickets and posters) or other details. So I would respectfully request that we add to the five MMJ-specific sections "Tickets" and "Marketplace".
Most other band/festival forums have a stipulation that any tickets offered can only be sold for face. Probably has a little to do with legalities (as none of us are ticket brokers and scalping is still illegal in many places) and a little to do with keeping to the spirit of the site.

Fair enough. I could live with that. Thanks. I wondered what, if anything, other band forums do about such things, as this is the only forum I spend any significant time on.
I spend time on too many forums :-[
Agree.
I'm cool with it as long as no-one's making a profit from ticket sales, and it'll tidy up the show/band threads...
I agree

definitely a good idea.

put me down in the "agree" column

Would it be possible to have an actual subforum above where the sticky topics are in the shows section? that way the main view of the forum isn't promoting ticket sales here. kind of how this place has it setup:
http://ufck.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=1
Rather than having the sticky be a topic have it be a.. subforum..? that way it can be one link within the shows section that opens into a new section. a section within a section. that's the cleanest way to do it if you ask me.
agree.
i like stickys idea if possible. but regaurdless i like this. a place for us to go and trade with eachother and sell stuff to eachother would be cool. the decluttering is my favorite too.
Agree, its a good idea.
agreed as long as it doesn't diminish the poster talk :)
Quoteagreed as long as it doesn't diminish the poster talk :)
Kyle, this was one of the first things I considered when posing the idea. I think threads about the art, artist, availability, etc. BELONG in the shows section, if not in a dedicated Poster section. I just figure when the discussion turns to "hey, anyone got a spare ISM poster for sale?" or "looking to trade dis for dat" it would be best isolated from the Shows section into something like Marketplace.
I wholeheartedly agree that we should prevent scalpers or others from posting tickets for sale for profit, perhaps by identifying the section "Tickets - Buy/Sell/Trade - Face Value Only".
I also checked out the link Sticky provided and think subforums are a great solution to keep this place from expanding too much. Basically, just as sticky threads evolve, subforums would emerge to contain and isolate common threads.
Back to my original proposal, I appreciate the responses so far, both for and against the idea. The consensus right now seems in favor of the idea of two additional sections, or more preferrably subforums, for Tickets and Marketplace. If subforums, the Tickets subforum would best be placed in the Shows section. Where would Marketplace go? I'm thinking maybe The Band section as a subforum.
We haven't heard back from the powers that be about this one, so keep the ideas coming.
agree
Well, the boards have cooled a bit. Alas, there are no tickets to buy, sell, or trade (sigh). Nonetheless, I'd love a bit more feedback so we might have the powers-that-be take action on the idea (see the start of this thread and all of the great comments thus far).
Right now we have 21 agreed (myself included) and 1 respectful disagreement as to the idea of a Ticket (Buy/Sell/Trade face value only) subforum and a Marketplace section or subforum.
I'd especially like to hear from folks who disagree. Perhaps the idea gets put on hold while the boys are off of the road and in studio. I'm guessing the idea will make more sense in the spring of 2011, when dates are announced to support the new album and this plays EXPLODES!

...and itd be nice to have these subforum(s) already on here when that happens

This. Just like the influx of new members who joined this October solely to buy/sell/trade... It would be nice to a special spot for that come April or so.
don't expect a change real soon but we'll act on it one way or the other before a new tour is in place.

I being one of these new members to the forum you mention and totally agree with you. Have been a MMJ fan for quite a bit and never have checked out the Forum before and never was much into them but this Forum and these people in here are just great. Collectively creating ideas, assisting others in times of need especially in unfortunate times. Such as the case with e_winds girl friends house catching on fire and her losing everything she owed. He reached out through the forum and on his own to track down and purchase the posters from the T5 run to try to cheer her up for losing not only her posters but everything, glad no one was injured or worse. I know i am i bit off topic but i agree with Johnny and encourage his efforts in this idea of expanding the forum topics! I am still new to the forum but have been cluttering the "Poster This Tour" under the shows topic lately. Great thread Johnny, will continue to follow this thread as it progress.
