Sometimes it's nice to share good news.
HELLL YEAHHHHH! That's a damn good group of nominees in that category! I'm proud of you Grammys!
Congrats to everyone involved! [smiley=beer.gif]
Wow! & congratulations!!! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
WHAT!?! That's Awesome!!! I will actually watch the Grammy Awards this year
Damn! Grammy's finally got it right foro a change.
Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the nomination list.
The Grammy's usually eff it up but hopefully they'll get it right this year. There were a lot of surprises like Hot Chip, a lot of Radiohead, No Katy Perrty (huzzah!), Paper Planes - M.I.A. nominated for Record of the Year (bitchin'!)
leaps and bounds... :)
Yee-haw!!!
I'm still suffering side-effects from that mentioning of Hey Dude! in another thread. :-/

Yippy-ki-yi-yay for the grammy nomination - Ted
WHOOOO!! finally they got one right
....but, did i see Kid Rock nominated for a Best Rock Album Grammy?!? >:(
Kings of Leon, Death Cab, and MMJ? Am I getting old, or are the Grammy people finally figuring sh*t out?
I did like the fact that they kept it conservative and allotted just one category for the entirely of "Alternative".
This is exciting! When are the grammys?
Shut up! Seriously! Shut up shut up! This is amazing. Wow.
Yay!!!!!! :)
wow...Id love to see them win, but thats some bigtime competition
And I love Beck, but that new album is probably his worst album..I guess that means MMJ has a 25% chance instead of 20% ;D
Congrats to the boys. I knew this day would come.
another dream comes real...
QuoteYee-haw!!!

;D ;D ;D
This is FANTASTIC!!! I never understood how the Grammy's can ignore so much great music and stick the the mainstream bullshit, but this is great.
Wow.
I will be watching this year.
Thats pretty damn cool!
This is great news. Unfortunately, I doubt they give out this award on the Grammy telecast.
QuoteThis is great news. Unfortunately, I doubt they give out this award on the Grammy telecast.
I bet they do. Beck and Radiohead are nominated in the same category. I wonder if the boys will be in attendance, that would be strange. I guess it's fitting that the worst-received album by fans and critics alike is the first one to get them a Grammy nod.

yeah i would think they will probably also.
jim said he will be wearing his cape and straw hat.
it'll be funny to see how they dress. probably something like tuxedos or something.they won't win but nice that they were nominated. (radiohead or f'n death cab which neather i want to win but sometimes it's a popularity contest)
In my fantasy world they would perform a 45 minute version of Cobra at the Grammy's (complete with cape and straw hat, lasvegas!), showing the audience what it's all about and making the likes of Nickelback and Maroon 5 cry and quit music forever.
Then they would win every award, even in the categories where they were not nominated, and use the trophies as hood ornaments.
Im Amazed-Very appropriate. I wish them luck, being nominated is a gift. They are so talented and I love seeing them live. I hope they win!!!

You know, the very first thought that popped into my head, was that I kind of remember them dropping the "Alternative Record" category from the show last year. I could very easily be wrong. I hope so. It just seems like they really trimmed it down last year to make it a better "show" but maybe I'm thinking of the Oscars.
In Rainbows is nominated? That album was on my best of 2007 list! :-/

well played.
i wish patrick could use that dbag's face from maroon 5 as a drum kit.

I am pretty sure In Rainbows will win and they will not be there to pick it up. I'd love for MMJ to appear on the grammies so that my music tastes will somehow be legitimized to my top 40 friends :-)
That's WONDERFUL NEWS!!! :D
HELL YES!! Congrats and good luck, boys!!
It's really crazy how far they have come.
Sadly, Radiohead will win since their album is also up for Album of the year.
Still, a big step in the right direction.

Yeah I think Radiohead will win most categories they're in. When did In Rainbows come out? I think it was 2007, I can't remember.

Well said AMD.
Congrats to the band but a Grammy? Ehhhh, doesn't really light my torch. But as Jim and many a musician has said, everyone hates critics until they say something nice about you.
"The accolades, adulation and respect will come from the masses while industry insiders and record execs massage each others' asses."
Ruckus '08
BTW...MMJ is the mainstream now and shouldn't be acknowledged as anything but that if we are into labeling. Album commercials, NYE, heavy rotation on FM Rock Radio.
fuck yea they're mainstream. Good music can't stay down forever!
Quotefuck yea they're mainstream. Good music can't stay down forever!

Sometimes get the feeling that some fans can't acknowledge their large scale commercial success. Not a bad thing at all
I'm so proud of them :) it's like they're my own children.

About time. I'm sticking on Evil Urges to celebrate.
can you imagine if they let them play live and they broke out One Big Holiday?
chaos would ensue...

or just make everyone wait for 3 hours while they assembled his stage.
Seriously, this is pretty bit sh*t. So pleased for the guys, especially after everything that's happened in the last two months.
From the barns of Kentucky to the Grammys. Who says hard work doesn't pay off? ;)

They go by albums released between Oct. 1 2007 - Sept. 30 2008.
In Rainbows shows that it was released Jan. 1 2008. (but I could have sworn it was out before then)
Anyway, so happy for the band, how cute would it be to see them all dressed up on the red carpet. I wonder who they'll be seated by, my money's on Beyonce and Jay-Z. [smiley=huh.gif]
They are playing a show the night of Feb. 6th in Osaka, Japan, and the Grammy's are on the night of Feb. 8th. Obviously they can get there in time but lets hope they don't have jet lag and Sushi food poisoning.
Yes!!!!! I am very proud.

Don't you fucking
dare jinx my show BH ;)
This had crossed my mind, man oh man I sure hope they don't cancel :-/
Maybe I should post some life in the Japan Tour thread...

That was the day the CD was physically released. They had it online for a long time before then though.
That's awesome! I'd like to hear Jim's speech if they won..

No way they cancel! Grammy stars get private jets with champagne, bails of cocaine and topless flight attendents. They'll be fine.
this is great news. no B.S. just as I heard the news "I'm Amazed" came on my ipod!

I NEED TO WIN MYSELF A GRAMMY!
congrats to the guys.
this truly is a wonderful acknowledgement, not just of the evil urges record, but of the growth they have experienced in order to get to the point where they could actually make this record
i am very happy for the band, and I can't wait to see the Grammy Nominated MMJ in NYC on new years
One album too late IMO. Grammys are BS, but congrats to MMJ anyway.
QuoteOne Four albums too late IMO. Grammys are BS, but congrats to MMJ anyway.
Fixed that for you. :)
I have not been on the board since nursing my wounds about missing Chicago. But this has me in tears of joy.
About the Grammy's though: the Coldplay record = yuck; Radiohead = last year.
But whatever my beefs and griefs, this is such great news for such deserving guys. I love this band so much.
Uhhh...
The boys may be nominated, but that doesn't mean people will get their names right:

Super!!!
;D
My guess is they cropped the picture and didn't adjust the names.
I don't even think that's Tommy. I think it's M.Ward.

Grammys for the most part is bullshit but this is a pretty good group.
Radiohead will win
I don't get what everyone has against the Grammys. It's the American Music Awards that should be called "The Awards for the Artist or Band who sold the most records." Of course even the grammys are going to be somewhat mainstream but in general I think they do pick artists with legitimate talent. People like us with such amazing taste in music are a rare breed. ;) ::)

Too bad there was such competition in 99 (MMJ's year). How could they compete with the likes of the Backstreet Boys and Andrea Bocelli? ::)

Yeah but Lauren Hill won! There are lots of good names on those lists. They can't get them all right. Nobody's perfect. ;)

What a great pic! Thanks CC :)
they just announced the winner
No surprise from the Grammys :-/
I have no faith in mankind if Lil' Wayne gets a grammy. None at all.........mabey unless the MMJ wins the rest of the grammy awards.
Radiohead won.....
In Rainbows is an excellent album.
Getting nominated alone was something to be proud of, regardless of how you feel about the Grammys.
Congratulations guys, hope you had a good time!!! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

And Carl is still rocking the porn 'stache...I love it!
Carl looks great with his longer hair & current 'stache/beard - he sometimes reminds me a little of a young Graham Nash. I can't stop thinking about his playing on Friday...the man is amazing!

I've always saw that resemblance too db. Two handsome gents.
Also, TTT is a stone-cold fox.
The Grammys should have a "Rockinest Pouring Their Hearts Into It Face Meltinest Band Ever To Grace A Stage Award" and they'd walk away with it.Hands down! :D

When did they announce this one? Was it right away at the beginning of the show?
QuoteWhen did they announce this one? Was it right away at the beginning of the show?
It was one of those awards they announce before the show.
Youd think best alternative album would be a pretty big award too, no?
No kidding! I have had to suffer through looking at that ugly ass 'Lil Wayne up on stage about 10 times hoping to see MMJ. Oh well, the Radiohead performance was cool.
He's wearing his cape. ;D I love it.
^^Did you see MMJ on tv? I never saw them!!
Edit: Disregard that. I just saw the picture.
Oh they're so much better than the Grammys! Their time will come, their time will come.
Shame they didn't win.
They did look pretty cool in their suits though.
that photo of the band is sweetpickles! it must have been awesome to be there, even though they didn't win.
thanks for posting the photo. i watched almost all 3 1/2 hours of the grammys, just to catch a glimpse of the boys. the picture totally satisfied my urges. too bad they didn't win, but we all know they won in our hearts :-* of course i wanted mmj to win it, but second i was rooting for death cab for cutie, so sad they didn't win it either.
I watched the whole thing and didn't see them once. I saw plenty of Coldplay though. Seems like they showed them evey time I turned around. Who knows!

I gave up an hour in. Once Kid Rock took the stage I was done. I came here to see if I missed anything. I disappointed I didn't, but we are talking about the Grammy's.

i watched that garbage to to catch a glimpse too. oh well...they're better than a little gold-plated paper weight anyway!
I actually made a tiramisu celebration cake just in case they won....I ended up eating it in sadness :(
You should have threw it in tribute.
haha YES! I should've ahh :(
