This is a great festival.   I love it up there...and it is right by Levon's Ramble.  Last year DBT played the Ramble the same weekend.

I'll just say it.  So much more palatable than Waka.

I could be tempted.  I've heard good things about this one.

That lineup is way too "jam" heavy for me. I will be passing on this one.

maggie you should definitely pull the trigger on this one  ;D early june and the temp's will be oh so nice.

i'm 99% in. it's my dad's 60th b-day that weekend and he and his wife have been talking about having a party & wanting me to fly down. i haven't been whole hog on this idea though b/c i generally don't spend hundreds of dollars to fly down for a weekend for a birthday. i feel bad with the whole "oh sorry, i've got yet another concert to go to" but they have a ton of friends and they totally wouldn't miss me.

Actually this is probably the least jam heavy this fest has ever been.  Usually they get like Umphery's and Moe, or Ratdog...which kind of turns me off to this fest...but I like that they have North Miss, Mavis Staples, Portugal The Man, Dawes, Edward Sharpe..and they will add more.

I'd like to.  If I can swing this and Roo, will be a nice start to the summer indeed...

I'm not super into the headliners, but the undercard is pretty decent...I've been meaning to see Orgone forever, hope this means they'll be on the festival circuit this year.

You're right. This is from the press release/jambase article:

Radio Woodstock and Warren Haynes present the seventh annual Mountain Jam Music Festival at Hunter Mountain, in Hunter, NY from Thursday, June 2, to Sunday, June 5, 2011. For the first time, Mountain Jam will expand to include four days of music and camping. Early bird tickets are now available at MountainJam.com. Gov't Mule will headline Mountain Jam for the seventh consecutive year on Saturday, June 3. Gov't Mule's two-set performance at Mountain Jam VII will be one of only a few select appearances for the group in 2011. My Morning Jacket will return to the festival after five years to headline on Sunday, June 5. The newly formed Warren Haynes Band, a soul-infused ensemble, will make its debut northeast festival appearance, headlining on Friday, June 2.

It is really beautiful up there.  it is a Ski resort so you have that to access...use the bathrooms, there is a bar and food inside...but then the camping is on the Mountain which is great.  The actual venue is the best..it is a natural Hill..great views and it is really wide so it is pretty easy to get right up front...they usually have 2 stages side by side so you don't miss anything.

and they will eventually have day passes.

^^^ This

The venue is amazing. Really small so the walk to and from your campsite is only a few minutes. It's on a ski slope and you camp on one side of the mountain while the festival is right next to you. The weather is great (though it can get cold at night) and the only thing to worry about is a little rain. There are two main stages that alternate acts all day long so you don't have any overlapping sets for main acts. Smaller acts also play an indoor stage and another acoustic stage at times.

And Day Passes will certainly be available. They usually go on sale at a later date.

Really great festival. Great lineup.

I really cannot agree that this festival(s lineup) is better than Waka. It's a good line up, dont get me wrong, but turns me off in a few places. The two main things which are totally and completely no ones fault are MMJ being the closer and the fact that I live 14 hours or so South of this one. However, ESATMZ, The Avetts, Lotus, NMA, Dawes, and Morning Teleportations are all great.

I do believe that anyone who swings this will enjoy a BEAUTIFUL enviroment, which is huge for me when deciding festivals. The overcrowded-ness, terrible weather, and flat boring scenery make me dislike Roo.

They definintely had day passes last year.  They will probably sell them later on.

I agree...there is honestly not a better festival enviornment I would rather see them at.  This is a perfect medium sized festival for them to headline...and they will kill there.

I was hoping they would be one of the headliners at Nateva which would also be great but i'd still rather see them here.

Yeah, Lady...Radiohead would enough to get me there, but I can't see them doing one festival and no other dates once they cross the pond. I know they like to reduce that carbon footprint.  ;)

Ixonay on the ountainMay amJay! I have no explanation as to why I haven't ever gone to one though... it's likely that there have been other fests occurring at the same time, or that I was only able to get 2 out of 4 weekends off from whatever job I'd been working at the time.... But man to get there it looks like you go clear past the Kaaterskill Falls which are GORGEOUS... (well, that's ONE of the routes!)

It's going to be an intense trip, I guess I'm 99% in for it too... like 99.99999%. Of course I'll be in Asheville then! I have class June 1, but could leave either that night like a psycho lunatic (not recommended, but....) or I could leave super early the next morning (at like 6am or something), and just make a day of the trip and maybe camp in Woodstock on the 2nd. Then I could leave early the 3rd and hang out, or I could take my time, depending on line-up days (which I'll have to look at...)

Of course my last class in A-ville is June 8, so I'll be working my way back down by no later than June 8.... but that does indeed give me time to play with.

There be a whole lotta things up in the air! I'll have to see how established I've become down in NC and see what my funds are like, etc....

I've got a good feeling about all that though  :)

I finally saw Orgone at Bear Creek this year and found them to be totally enjoyable so long as the woman in the band was not singing.  :-X

I've heard nothing but good things about Mountain Jam, but that's all been from Warren Haynes fanatics.  That said, I'm all over this one. =)

If you're going, you might want to try to get a cabin.  I had some friends go last year and they had to park and then carry all of they're stuff from the car to the camp site -- up hill or over the hill or some such.  :)

I've got no problem whatsoever with some tent camping but figured, if a bunch of you could share a closet-sized apt. in NYC for a week, maybe sharing a rental at Hunter Mtn. would be worth looking into.  How about a 7200 sq. ft. estate that sleeps 40?

Seriously, there are other options with reasonable rates.

Don't miss Toubab Krewe! You will NOT be disappointed...
I fully second that!!! I saw them in GA once and in Pitt a couple times, and they deliver some real talent. The few times I've seen 'em, they've ended with the most insane percussion solos/duos/trios that left me to be mopped off the floor after it was over. And some of their instruments. They ain't ones I've ever seen. Really unique string instruments...just unruly

I love quoting myself!

So, no takers on the estate rental?

I did find a condo rental on-site that sleeps 6-7 that would be $1050 for three nights (Friday night through Monday morning).  That's $50 per person per night.  The place is ours, but I'd like to have some commitments before I send any $$$.  PM or email me if interested.

http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p126153 (http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p126153)

I think right now it would be myself and headhunter, and possibly a couple of his buds.  Anyone else want in?  We've got room for 3 to 5 more!

A 3-day pass (Friday to Sunday) with camping is $172.50 (plus fees, I imagine).  Without camping, its $142.50, or $30 less.  So, if you go for 3 days and camp on site, total cost is $172.50 plus fees.

Joining us in the condo for three nights would run $292.50 plus ticket fees.  So, an extra $120 gets you a bed, bathroom, shower, full kitchen, and weather protection.  Might be worth the $40 extra per day, especially if there's any rain.

Just let me know, the sooner the better.

Hey JY~
thanks for doing all of this legwork!

We will definitely be going to this, but can't commit to anything just yet! I have a huge  (all day) presentation to do on Monday the 6th, so we will definitely be heading out after the show Sunday night.  Totally not sure yet when we are coming up yet either, but will  keep y'all posted!

Awesome

Oh my... I love this as a T5 reunion as I can't get back east in Feb. and as Karl will be here in LA in Feb  :)

I lived in Hunter NY for 3 months in 05 working on a movie and feel like an expert in the area if anyone has questions lol. Tannersville is another awesome little town next to Hunter.

This will be a fun kick off to Festi Season!

Johnny I would be down for a Hunter rental.

I sent Johnny a pm. I was originally thinking of only coming up Sunday if they make day passes available, but this deal looks too good to pass up. Now I'm definitely leaning towards doing the whole fest.  ;D

It's starting to feel like the months long wait for the T5 shows all over again. Hopefully this will make Winter go by faster. ;)

I'll definitely be going to the festival. The condo rental idea is definitely tempting too. How close are they to the actual festival? Are they on the mountain? I didn't look into it too much. I wasn't able to meet up with anyone at the T5 shows but would possibly be willing to join in on the festivities at Mntn Jam.

I need to start planning for all my summer events now lol.

I'll have to check in tonight.  Can't access personal email from work, but I can noodle on the forum to my heart's content.

The place I mention above is a 650 sq. ft., 2 bedroom condo, typical of ski resorts, that looks to be right at the entrance to Mountain Jam.  I'll have to look at your email, but this is definitely not a cabin.  Check the link above to see what it is.

There are other places in the area that hold more people and would be a bit less per person, but some are a few miles from the fest.  There's a woman with a farmhouse 7 miles from the site of Mountain fest who is eager to rent.  It sleeps 12 and she's asking $1500 for Fri. to Mon. (3 nights).  That's about $42 per person per night, but who wants to drive 7 miles after a day of live music?

I am tentatively interested in this...don't put me down officially or anything yet.  I'm going to ask my buddy if he might want to go.  I have a feeling he'll say it's "too jammy," but if the surrounding area is cool and I can convince him we could make a bit longer trip out of it to do other stuff, he might be down.  Will check back in.

No shit, eh?  I'm waiting to hear back from the guy, but plan to book it.  There are other places, but none so close to the fest (far as I can tell).  And it looks like, now that the fest has been announced, local rentals are disappearing fast.

I've got 10 names attached to this condo, which technically sleeps 7, so we may have to take turns in sleeping bags on the floor.  Plus, not everyone may be doing the full Fri-Mon thing.

For now, though, I guess the offer on this unit is closed while I work out with those who've already contacted me.  If space opens, I'll post it here.

So this lineup is pretty sweet. Havent heard of any of the bands listed after Ryan Montbleau but Im sure some are good. Very intrigued also as Ive wanted to but have never seen the Magnetic Zeros, Avetts, Portugal The Man, Dawes, and Toubab Krewe.....Those of you familiar with the fest, and chance there are more artist additions at a later date like other fests do, or is Mtn Jam a 1 time announcement?

Def want to go, but wont be sure for another few months until I know my school schedule and funds situation..$200 for this festy seems a little steep IMO

Penny great to be here. I am such a weak poster on the Forum but always sending the love to those at T5 and beyond. I too saw Hot Tuna at Further Fest up in NorCal, (another camping on a Mountain Festival). GE Smith was with Hot Tuna and made me flash back to his intense glare during his days on SNL. They were awesome.

SWEET deal MMTT! That Grateful Bed place didn't seem real "open for business" when I passed it, but that *was* in October... might've just been a lazy summer home  8).... As far as livin' in Woodstock goes...... maybe this fall I think I will! There's a lady herbalist who lives right in Woodstock, and if her classes go into the fall, I may be taking them, depending on monies and etc! If not this fall, then 2012 might see me there! I just adore it up there! But I currently live in Pittsburgh, movin' to Asheville this March to study herbology a few months and see what it's all like. Hope to see you at Mt. Jam!!  :D

Hey All,

I have been going to this Festival for years. It is a great local festival for people in the Tri-State area. Beautiful setting and always a good line-up. My first Mt Jam was 2005 when MMJ played. I have been to all but two since and for the past 2 years I have rented a condo just off the Mt. next to the campgrounds of the festi. I get a camping pass even though I am not camping so I can cut through the camping area and enjoy that scene but then retreat back to my house to relax with some food, drinks and a shower. You can actually here all the acts from the deck of the condo so if you don't feel like walking over yet you can just chill on the deck. In my opinion it is a perfect set up for a festi. I will most likely have the same crew of people coming back to stay with me this year but may have a few spots open at the condo. So if you are interested let me know (PM). I will be renting it 3 nights (fri, sat and sun). 700 a night. Hoping to get at least 10 in the house. Can sleep 10 easily and there is a loft that could sleep about 4 more. So it would come out to about $70 per night depending on how many peeps are in.

Anyway, we can talk more about it at the reunion in a couple weeks.

Cheers!

Good idea. Quite a few people going to the reunion want to hit up Mountain Jam, too. I'm excited for this festival...it seems very chill and that area is beautiful. Add a little MMJ and the forum folks and it'll be perfect.

Always a good feeling.  Funny, I hit 8 last year as well, if you include YY at NFF.  I'll have my pass by the time we see each other.  That 'bama fest is looking interesting, too, but can't swing more shows until after my school year ends, which will be another day or two later in June, with all these damn snow days!

I used Paint to erase 4 or 5 bars from the bar code.  I was gonna put VOID across it but didn't wan't to take away from the image.  That should suffice, I would think.

Well, my wife just brought up the idea of going to B'roo for our anniversary.  I've never been, but I'm not sure how I feel about a) the insane heat and b) the crowded nature of that festival.

This festival sounds much much more appealing to me.  The problem is, my wife teaches and I'm not sure when their last day is.  Part of me is thinking it is that Friday?!   :(

I still think coming up for the weekend would be worth it as I see the Avetts are playing on Saturday.  And it would be great to finally meet up with all of you forum peeps.  I will just have to research a little more into our sleeping accomodations as I don't want to buy the full festival pass with camping if we aren't going to be there for the whole festival.

Hopefully we can make this work!

I am pretty sure I am out for this. I have a huge all day continuing medical education presentation to do on Monday morning for like doctor/psychologist types.  They pay $$ for this conference so I need to be in top form. I can't take a chance of being stuck at hunter or getting no sleep ya know.
Bob is free to go but he us saying he doesn't want to go without me....we shall see if that changes  :'( :'(
For now, hangout is all that's on the books for us, hopefully solo shows will be announced!

don't get too excited boys, Grace only agreed to play when she heard that I had my ticket.

Psyched to see GP added to the bill and I may have to send her an em to tell her about the Mountain Side House we rented in case she needs a place to crash.

I went to this festival in '09.  I personally had more fun there than at Bonnaroo, because it was so much easier to get around, it wasn't obscenely hot, the crowd was 100% civil (ok let's just say 99% to be safe) and you didn't miss anything, because the two main stages are right next to each other - the acts go back and forth between the stages.  There's rarely a moment when music is not being played.  It truly is an ideal spot for a festival, and I think it's the ideal size.

Note to all who camp... I reiterate that everyone I met was friendly, and I don't remember any drama, but the revelry does NOT stop up in the camping area, and people are still hooting and hollering, forming random drum circles, and are drunk and/or trippin balls until 5 or 6 am.   This was all fine by me, but it's not for the uninitiated.  Also, on the last night I camped there, it was literally freezing cold outside.  I heard the temp was 34, but I really think it got below freezing.  Regardless, COLD.  That may have been an anomaly, but make sure to bring a warm sweater, maybe two, because I wore about 5 layers that night, including a wool sweater than my aunt in Norway knitted for me, and I wrapped myself in my sleeping bag too of course.  But I'm not trying to scare anyone.  The other nights were fine.  I believe the first night was pretty warm actually.

It's interesting, because the day crowd there is pretty tame.  Lot of families stake out spots on the hill, and you'll see a good number of children running around.   The crowd is generally older than your average festival crowd, not that the majority isn't 20 and 30 somethings.  But it seems to be a big event for the baby boomer hippies who settled in that area as well.  It's a good mix of old and young, and I prefer it that way.

I would love to camp there again, but this year, I can only get out there on Saturday, and would need to leave Sunday morning to get back to Boston.  I'm assuming Govt Mule will close out the festival on Sunday (they always have, right?) and MMJ will close on Saturday night (excepting the late night act)... would anyone disagree?  Can we confirm this?

kenny, what you have just said is awesome. i am even more excited now.

i cannot confirm 100% because i am lazy, but i am pretty sure that i read on mnt jams own website that mmj is closing on sunday. yup. closing the mountain. and to answer e, that grace is indeed playing before them. i read all of this mnt jams message board on their website. so yeah, a bunch of peeps just like us saying stuff, but for some strange reason, i believe them. actually, the mmj on sunday part i read in a bulletin the site sent out, not on the message board. but still, i cannot 100% confirm.

but anyways, thanks for the type up. i had another person tell me that it is cold as shit there. and well i live an hour north so that is not a surprise to me, but a good reminder. so i hope that if indeed mmj is on sunday you can still make it.

Now I remember that the Allman Brothers closed on Sunday in '09.... and they were the 2nd name on the bill, just as MMJ is 2nd on the bill this year...

sooo.... maybe I can take off that following Monday after all.  8)

Actually the Mule never closes it out.  The year I was there it was Ratdog, I think the year after it was Levon...and this year is MMJ.  Mule always plays Saturday night.

For folks like Brooke and Trish & Bob, who fear they cannot make the Sunday night MMJ set at Mountain Jam, the word through postings on their message board is that the last set on Sunday night ends around 10 PM, based on previous years.  Alman Bros. ended early one year (9:30 PM) due to dropping temps and Levon Helm's set last year went to 11 PM.  THAT should make decisions a lot easier (unless MMJ makes history with an epic 4 hour set to midnight).

So, we'll see you there, Brooke and Trish & Bob!  ;)

Here's speculation on a general schedule (so far), based on numerous sources cited below, taken from the Mountain Jam message board:

Thursday:
The London Souls - MJ
Soulive - MJ
Big Gigantic - MJ

Friday (Noon to 3 AM):
TR3 - Jambase
Dawes - Website
TAB - Website
Bela Fleck - Pollstar
Hot Tuna - Website
WHB - MJ
UM(latenight)- educated guess

Saturday (Noon to 3 AM):
Bronze Radio - Website
Civli Twilight - Pollstar
Alternate Routes - Pollstar
Avetts - Website
Franti - Website
NMAS - Website.
Mule - MJ
7 Walkers(latenight) - Website

Sunday (Noon to 10 PM):
Preservation Hall - Pollstar
GPN - MJ
MMJ - MJ

i might have to back out of this  :-\.  my friend decided she wants to do a bachelorette weekend, in 'nawlins ( :D), and it's looking like it'll be right around that time.  even if it's not the same weekend, financially, i won't be able to swing both mtn jam & debauchery galore in the big easy.

at the very most i will prob just do sunday (mmj day) but i'm not even 100% on that.  so, so far i have zero mmj shows lined up.  that just ain't right!

Good morning all...

I'm thinking about heading to Mountain Jam this summer.

I've never done a festival before.  I'm a big live music fan, just never made it to a festival for some reason.

Anyways, I like the lineup a lot and think Mountain Jam will be a nice, fun, chill weekend.

Anyone ever been?

Easy to sit and chill and watch/listen to some bands while getting close up for some (MMJ)?

If I arrive on Thurs night, will I get a flat land camping spot?

Thanks all.

For folks like Brooke and Trish & Bob, who fear they cannot make the Sunday night MMJ set at Mountain Jam, the word through postings on their message board is that the last set on Sunday night ends around 10 PM, based on previous years.  Alman Bros. ended early one year (9:30 PM) due to dropping temps and Levon Helm's set last year went to 11 PM.  THAT should make decisions a lot easier (unless MMJ makes history with an epic 4 hour set to midnight).

So, we'll see you there, Brooke and Trish & Bob!  ;)

Here's speculation on a general schedule (so far), based on numerous sources cited below, taken from the Mountain Jam message board:

Thursday:
The London Souls - MJ
Soulive - MJ
Big Gigantic - MJ

Friday (Noon to 3 AM):
TR3 - Jambase
Dawes - Website
TAB - Website
Bela Fleck - Pollstar
Hot Tuna - Website
WHB - MJ
UM(latenight)- educated guess

Saturday (Noon to 3 AM):
Bronze Radio - Website
Civli Twilight - Pollstar
Alternate Routes - Pollstar
Avetts - Website
Franti - Website
NMAS - Website.
Mule - MJ
7 Walkers(latenight) - Website

Sunday (Noon to 10 PM):
Preservation Hall - Pollstar
GPN - MJ
MMJ - MJ

Thanks JY, this is nice of you to do all of this research! I am definitely out for this.  I have to be in top form and ready to lecture from 8am-4:30pm, (and people are paying good $$ to hear my boring self drone on)!!  I just can't take a chance of being that far from home the night before....Bob has been very creative in coming up with solutions, but unless by some miracle they get switched to Saturday, I'm out.   :(

If Liz & I end up going for just Sunday, I wouldn't mind being the chauffer.  Work slows down for me in May for the summer so I can sleep in that Monday or easily take the day off.

would anyone be up for doing sat/sun?
if not i'd be up for just Sunday, too! (but sat could be good cuz NMA are playing, maybe we can grab a hotel room just for that night?)

I might be down for that. The people I got my house on the Mountain are doing there own thing so I don't think I am going to get the place anymore unless people want to join up with me from here. It is $700 a night. Have to rent for Fri, Sat and Sun. It would be cheap enough if we filled it up (10 plus people). But I don't want to stuck paying extra. Plus I have a bagpipe competition that Saturday in NJ. So I am prob just gonna go up for the day on Sunday now. It is not that far of a ride back so I may just drive after MMJ finish. But would be willing to crash if we found a spot. But it is hard to get lodging up there for just that one night. We could always camp!

yes ma'am .. i'd do saturday & sunday  :bath: any scenario that doesn't require taking off work or spending an assload of money because this is what early june might look like:

may 27th - 29th / phish @ bethal woods
may 31 & june 1st / phish @ PNC
june 4th & 5th / mtn. jam
june 10th / phish @ camden
june 11 & 12th / phish @ MPP

Sorry it's taken so long to chime in. I'm definitely up for Sunday so can easily be talked into Saturday. Good chance I need to work at 7am on Monday. Unless,  Jeff,  the offer is still up to drive back Sunday night and stay with you and family in Dix Hill?

Val, you're reservation at the Bluesky Hotel in lovely Dix Hills is confirmed.  Beth even offers complimentary breakfast and chocolates on your pillow at night.  Additionally, I spoke with the limo driver and I definitely have room  (I mean the limo driver has room) in the car for you for the ride back.

Cool. I am probably just going to go up for the day on Sunday now. I will prob just drive back after the MMJ show. They do have camp grounds and I think u can pay for just one night of camping and leave Monday morning. But since MMJ will prob be done around 10 or 11pm I should be able to make it back to the Bronx by 1am the latest. If you are going on Sunday it is worth it to get up there around 12pm. That is when the music starts.
I will have room in my car if anyone needs a ride.

Cheers,
Brian

i've never been to Mtn. Jam but i am pretty positive that it won't sell out. also, valerie found out that if you buy a friday - sunday pass .. it is like $15 or so cheaper than buying individuals for saturday & sunday. that said, i still haven't bought mine.

I don't think it can sell out. There is plenty of room on the Mt for everyone. Never heard of people getting turned away. U can usually buy a day pass right at the door. I will prob get one for Sunday in advance just in case though.

Thanks - one more question.... is VIP the only way to get on the rail or close to the band?   By the looks of the map on the mountainjams website, there's a reserved pit section in front of each stage.

I didn't have VIP and got up front for every good band I wanted to see.   It is a very wide setup...really easy to move around and get up front.  I think VIP is a waste at Mtn Jam.

The VIP pit only takes up about a third of the rail in front of the main stage so you can absolutely get up front with GA tics.  You will, of course, have to get there pretty early because people camp out on the rail just like any other fest.

The music started right at noon everyday last year.  My impression is Thursday this year will begin at about 6 PM and the other days will be noon.

If anyone has a way to record Storytellers from Friday night, June 3 (VH1 @ 11 pm ET), DVD or VCR, let me know and bring it to Mt. Jam.  We'll have our own viewing party late night.  Granted, it will be a tiny tv in a tiny ski condo.

Hopefully, we'll have a straight path to the stages from our door, about 1500 feet...

Hey Dude,
I could probably tape it Friday night and bring it up on Sunday. I have a VHS and DVD recorder so find out what the condo has? I brought my own DVD player last time I stayed at the Condos there. Better off safe than sorry. I usually go up for the entire weekend, but I have a bagpipe competition that Saturday in NJ, so I am just gonna come up for Sunday now. But plan to stay Sunday night. Not sure where yet, but will fig it out.

Cheers!

BTW - I would recommend buying a weekend ticket with camping. That way you can cut through the camping area to the Condos. If not you have to walk ALL the way around. Which sucks. The camping area is fun too!

Aw, I already bought my pass w/out camping.  Figured I could just walk through.  Of course not!  Hmmmmm. :-\

EDIT: It might not be that much more to walk around, but I'm wondering what the attitude of the festival planners would be towards bikes?  I could definitely bring a bike along, may do so regardless.

EDIT #2: Bikes not allowed on festival grounds.  Hmmmm.  Not even in the parking lot?  Doesn't seem very eco-friendly, now does it?

The camping pass adds $30.  I've emailed festival organizers.  You can upgrade to include camping area access if you got the pass w/out camping by calling 888 512 SHOW.  I can't decide if its worth it, especially if most of the folks I'm hanging with don't go this route.  Thoughts?

Still trying to find out if I could bike there from the condo, just lock it up in the parking lot.  Seems reasonable, but maybe they don't need a bunch of drunk and/or high people tooling around on two wheels, eh?

Aahh, a little extra walk can't be that bad, can it? I'm thinking doing the walk on Friday, and if it really is a long hike, then upgrading to the camping pass to cut through for Saturday and Sunday.

I'm not opposed to spending the extra $, but if it's not really that big of a deal, that extra $ x 5 or 6, could buy a decent amount of food and booze for the condo. ;)

I wonder if Brian can fill us in on what the difference between cutting through the camping, and going around really is? An extra 10-15 minutes, or an hour?

Well, the final word from Mt. Jam is that you can bike to the lot, with racks to lock it up, but I doubt its that far.  Just looking at the aerial photo, maybe a 20 minute walk around vs. under 10 minutes straight through.

I agree with Eric; save our $30 for food, bev, etc.  I was just thinking having a bike would be a nice alternative if we need to make a quick run to the condo.  I'll plan to bring mine so we can use it as a communal bike for such situations.

We reserved this unit directly from the owner, so I can't speak for other units or how you'd get in touch with them.  I'll email the owner and see if he knows of a managment firm or real estate agency handling rentals.  I found this one through HomeAway.com.

You could try this link: http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rentals/new-york/hunter/r5544 (http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rentals/new-york/hunter/r5544)

We are getting so close, I'll tell anyone, from someone who's been to all Mtn Jams., Its a great small set up, it's Mules only appearance in 2011. The locals and town are also great. I've only had the best time, always meeting artists, mike gordon, franti, to name a couple.  Come all and get ready to JAM....

They have never done the buses before but I have a feeling they are going to try to make it as simple as they can.  They are going to make sure that unless you're being an idiot you will get home.

might be heading up all by my lonesome.. sucks that most of my musical brethren have kid, jobs preventing them from coming w/ me.

if i go.. it will be for sunday only. i'm not as outdoorsy as i used to be, i guess.
but i can't fathom missing Jacket, considering they're not playing locally in what seems like forever.

if anyone is afraid of missing the last bus (which i hear leaves 15 mins after they close out), i'd be happy to drive.
i can fit 3 comfortably, 4 (buts ta nuts); all i ask is gas money and some free eats/drinks.

oh, and wash up before getting back in my ride.. this isn't lollapalooza. no mud-divers allowed. haha

Hey Guys. Sorry for just getting back to you now. Been busy!!! In a good way! In the mist of starting my own Production company called "SGIAN DUBH Productions" Coming to a theater near you soon!!

Anyway, I highly recommend getting the camping pass because the whole camping scene is really cool. It is a lot quicker and cooler to cut from the condos through the camping area than to walk all the way around. It prob takes about 15 - 20 mins to walk around but it is down a road with nothing going on. Cutting through the camping area probably takes 10 mins but you get to check out the scene.

The first year I stayed there I did not get the camping pass and was cutting through the camping area anyway. It wasn't a problem on the way into the festi but on the walk back they check your wrist bands to see if u have access to camping. I was able to sneak around it a few times but it got annoying. For an extra 30 bucks it is worth the convenience in my opinion.

Thats all I got for ya kids. I can only make it up for Sunday this year. See ya on the Mountain!!!  8)

I would expect/hope for a full festival headlining MMJ set.

3+ hours, 30+ songs.

I believe they are playing Wakarusa on Sat night late, then playing Mtn Jam Sun night.  I just hope they have enough energy to play that long.

They are the last band to play so unless they have a strict curfew on the mountain (Don't know, this is my first round) then they can play as long as they want.

Thinking about buying a Sunday ticket and making the trek out there...love me some Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, Dawes, and the idea of seeing the Preservation Hall Jazz Band back up MMJ, so I think it would be worth it.

Anyone have any idea when the specific schedule will be released, or what time MMJ will start/how long they will get to play for?

MMJ should start at 8pm Sunday night. That is typically been the time for the last band of the festi to start since I have been going. I would imagine they will play from 8 - 11pm. No one is on after them and the Mr. Jam folks are pretty cool so usually no rush to get off the stage!

So here's the predicament im in right now,  I am trying to go up to Mountain Jam on Saturday, camp out one night, and leave on Sunday night after MMJ.  After looking at all of the ticket packages on the mountain jam website it seems that if i buy individual tickets for Saturday and Sunday I can't camp there, so basically I would have to buy a festival pass for the entire weekend.  I tried calling them to ask if this was right but sat on hold for 20 minutes, so now im here.  Does anyone have any other information about this or know what else I could do??  Any sort of input would be appreciated.

This is true camping is only available with the weekend passes.  The weekend with camping pass is only 30$ more expensive then getting both a sat and sun day pass.  So you would probably be best off just getting the weekend pass.

Ok thanks for the info.  I figured that's what I would have to end up doing if I wanted to camp there.  Do you know how strict they really are though about letting people into the campgrounds if they don't have a camping pass?  I dont see how I wouldn't be able to get in there if my friends already have a spot and a tent set up, but i could be way off.  Otherwise i might just do this MMJ bus thing they have set up for Sunday.

this will be my 1st mnt. jam but i do know they have wrist bands for the camping. i think someone said earlier that it was easy to get in / walk through that area during the day but not so much at night? i dunno.

also .. the daily schedules (http://mountainjam.com/schedule/) are up !! MMJ has a 7:30 - 10pm slot. better than 8-11 for us driving back to nyc area afterwards.

Alright, time to get serious about this.   Dunno why I'm so on-the-fence - I guess it's because I have plans Saturday and Monday and a 4 hr drive each way.  But the only other time I waffled so much and didn't go was the Boston Pops and I still regret it.  I think also in the back of my head I knew there was a live stream, and that was making me lazy.   But I now see that's not to be depended on (thank you hangout grrr) , so I'm figuring out for sure whether this is doable tonight, and I'll buy my groupon ticket if so.

If anyone needs a room at a very nearby motel for Mountain Jam, the Hunter Arms Motel will welcome you with open arms. They have one room remaining and their motel includes a barbeque grill area so you can do some cooking there as well - pre and post show - if you so desire.

things that have come to light w/in the past few weeks that i wish i'd known earlier:

1) groupon's offer - totally could've swung the whole weekend pass @ that price
2) friend's bachelorette weekend plans changed, AGAIN, making it impossible for me to attend so $ budgeted for that was freed up
3) brother-in-law's best friend's vaca house offered as place to crash

sonofabitch!!!  timing is everything  :-X

still very much looking forward to being there for sunday.  cannot wait!  especially after watching the l'ville stream.  i've been drooling over the thought that we could have horns courtesy of phjb...  :D

MMJ certainly killed it tonight (as if there would be any questions)... 2.5 hours nonstop (except when only the monitors where on and then once that was fixed, jim's mic wasn't on a bit)... the weather also held off and though a little chilly no rain

Amazing show. Phone went west was stellar and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band were great as well. Hope someone has a full setlist.

Just got back and crawling into bed. Tonight's show absolutely blew me away, i thought it topped Tuesday's hometown show by miles but i'm probably biased, the crowd was ridiculously into it, the fact that there were no bad views because it was on the mountain, the weather held off, was pretty much perfect the whole weekend. They seemed excited to play with PHJB, got to hear some rare gems (Carnival Time, Heartbreakin Man, PWW), got to watch Zach Galifinakis watch from backstage..this was NOT a festival set, this was a BRING it set, not even a need for an encore, got Run Thru and OBH-...incredible. Jim jumping around in those crazy moon boots? (I want a pair)

Hung out all day with a great forum crew: Headhunter, Eric, Brooke, bluesky, Joeyrogo, lil sis, ynwa, mahgeeta, johnnyyac, dodo, Ghosts, fiddlecastro, jane--we had a huge incredible spot all day for some Dawes, Grace P, PHJB, Edward Sharpe (not my thing but dude loves to come out in the audience and involve everyone)...

This is a great, scenic festival. Nice bathrooms (no porta potties!), everything's really close, you can see both main stages while standing in one spot...i'd go back in a heartbeat.

now time to find the icy hot, (this girl rocked too hard and is not as young as she used to be)

as for the new songs, you wanna freak out is becoming the new favorite live---!

Really loved this show. Phone Went West and Heartbreakin' Man were wonderful and the rest of the set was great too. Had a great spot in the crowd and got to meet Headhunter and a couple other people from the forums. Only complaint was the loss of power during what was an amazing Steam Engine.

Of the other bands who played yesterday I thought Dawes was the most exciting...

Oh and the MMJ bus from Manhattan worked out great. For $20 we got a ride to the show and a Mountain Jam poster signed by the band?! I would have paid twice that much for the poster alone. Was a late night though.

I would have to say that Mountain Jam 2011 show will go down as my favorite non T5/non-Bonnaroo show ever. It was perfect, completely forgot about all Jim's high kicks.

Where To Begin

It was great to see the forum faithful.   I doubt I would have rallied to make this show 3 years ago.   Too much going on and too easy to be lazy with my concert wingman unavailable.   What got me out of bed on and the road was the thought of seeing my friends and meeting new ones.   Especially the chance to meet Johnny Yac (which finally happened, but way too briefly unfortunately).    As it turns out, I got to talk to people less than I hoped- the alternating stage schedule is great for non-stop music but tough on having conversations.    But it was good to see the faithful again.   Next show Boston, unless I pull something elaborate off.

I had a great time on the rail with ynwa, lil sis, and JaneCool.   When Edward Sharpe left we just fought against the tide til we hit the rail in a great spot.   I'm sticking with the Jersey Girls as they know how to get what they want.

Concert thoughts:

Steam Engine was great – as usual.   It's always a highlight for me and yet I'm still blown every every time.   This time they rocked so hard they knocked out the sound system – seriously!   When things when dead my first thought was "my face really DID melt off this time" but as soon as I looked down to find my ears the music came back on.   The whole last section with Jim singing was new but I couldn't make out what it was.   But I felt like I was watching something special.   I now see from another poster what it was and do not recognize it.

Along with that snafu, there were numerous other technical difficulties.   Tom I think was having bass problems before and at the beginning of the show.   In the afternoon he walked right by me on the grounds.   I didn't want to bother him as he was carrying his bass, walking quickly, and in general didn't look too happy.   Jim had problems all night and numerous times was huddling with his roadie.   A few times his guitar went out altogether and they were scrambling to patch things.   Once was at the beginning of Smoking from Shooting and Jim told the band to keep going.   So he sang the first verse or two with no guitar – just Carl's slide and the drums, but without his typical "thumping" chords.   I kinda liked it, and the crew got him going just when it was time to kick it in.   He also had guitar probs on OBH and switched to a different one.   I wouldn't go so far as to say he ever looked agitated, but there was a lot of distraction.

One rant:  what asshats bring laser pointer to shows?    How f-ing annoying.   One, and then two, people were doodling against the circuital backdrop.   Not sure if the band noticed, and if they did they didn't say anything, but it went on for a good 30 mins.

Bo seemed really into it – more so than previous shows.   He played some new key parts in quite a few songs, and in general was fired up – leading a clap-along, rocking out harder, etc...

To anyone who doesn't like the new album, I'd say give it a chance live.   Then if you don't like it – hey, music tastes vary.   But how many of us listen to the studio albums often anymore?   To me, a new album gives us 10 new songs to mix into setlists.   And to me, of the 8 they played, 7 were big hits.   I'm still not sold on Slow Slow but maybe it'll grown into something special for me.   But everything else was big win – including First Light, which is a great great live song but goes by way too quickly, and You Wanna Freak Out, which is a great mainstream song I can see everyone getting into.   Victory Dance will be opening for a while.   Outta My System is heavier live and builds to a great finale.  Side note – I think Tom's bass playing on these new songs is great.   I really got to focus on it for a few songs and it's so interesting and imaginative.   I gave him the Magh33ta two thumbs up at one point to let him know but not sure he knew what I meant.

Jim's boots are magical because he in general was getting more power than ever from them.   He was jumping higher and kicking higher and everything else.   I just loved looking over at ynwa and seeing her big grin when he busted out his moves – some regular like his bear stomp, and some new like his extended toe-tapping tiptoe during the OBH solo.

Loved looking backward and seeing the darkening sky and then the moon.   Definitely a great setting.   Also looked backwards during TMIGTS2 to see if I could spot JohnnyYac's airomnichord but couldn't pick him out.

I like Mahgeetah better as a last song than OBH.   Hard to leave not feeling great after that big ending.     Also a fan of the "no-encore" setlist with the boys plowing right through.   Great time management and I can see nothing crossed off the setlist.   Others that were sticking around hoping for more songs clearly haven't been following setlists.   What did people want after Mahgeetah? LOL.

Preservation Hall Jazz band is great and having them joining the encore is perfect perfect perfect.   Dancefloors was a great reminder of Merriweather last year and didn't think I'd hear that again in this life.

I was wondering if I was going to set a record for most MMJ shows without ever seeing them at a festival.    Everyone else always talking about all the epic bonnaroos and everything else... while, I can finally say I got to one.   Bravo to the 2.5 hr timeslot.  Anything else would have felt like we got cheated.    It was a great great show.

I try to video one song a night.   Any more and it's too distracting.   This time I did First Light.   I know there's a lot of high quality video out there already lately but I'll try to get it up if anyone's interested.

Grace Potter came out for the encore and stood in front of us, in the photographer/security walkway and rocked out.   Glad to see she's a big fan.

Left the house at 9 am.   Home at 2 am.   Long day.   First concert of any sort I can remember where I had zero alcohol.   Still felt nauseous when I got home thanks to 2 monster energy drinks and a bag of hot and spicy chex mix at 1 am in Western Mass.   Man that shit is nasty.

Random thoughts while I'm still half fried.

Great review man!  I missed the stream because of other stuff but I'm glad some folks got an audio capture and I'm sure some other tapings will surface.  Sounds like a great time.  Figures my favorite tune of Circ is your least. ;D  All the pics from Hunter Mountain were beautiful.  Kinda makes me want to go at some point.  This festival seems pretty solid.

I definitely agree that Tommy's playing seems inspired in this new album, particularly the conclusion to 1st Light where his playing is prominent and has some balls.

Interesting to hear some of the technical difficulties details.

The only lyrics I remember from that new section of Steam Engine were "Growing up way to fast", or something along those lines

Also LOVED how when the power went out and Jim/Carl/Tom all stopped playing and kind of raised their hands in the air like "What the f", Pat just kept crushing the drums, which you could still hear from the front of the crowd. He single-handedly maintained the energy of the song by doing that..

Great write up Mahg33ta and what a wonderful weekend it was.  Mt Jam is a great festival and I hope to go up many more times.  Will not miss it if MMJ returns.

The music and the venue were spectacular and short of Warren Haynes letting me step in for him when Grace Potter strutted in front of him and put on the smoking hot duet, the weekend could not have been much more perfect.

Hanging with forum peeps at another show was another magical experience.  It's a mighty fine group of people and the large bed sheet I brought was happy to die such a wonderful death staking out our dance floor and serving as the guardian of our personal space.

Great to see Mahg33ta, fiddle, dodo, and to finally meet TSarge.  Adam, nice vinyl and stereo chat, great conversations. Joeyrogo, great to hang w you and your buddies.  Looked like all had quite the good time. Ghosts, always a pleasure to hang with you and your friends, thanks once again for the beer when I needed it most.  Liz and Laura, you guys rock and are the ultimate enforcers! So glad you made it up and joined us at the cabin before the show. Jane and Brooke & Bluesky were most wonderful weekend companions and Brooke, you can mix me a margarita anytime.
Penny Lane is just about the coolest dance partner anyone can share an MMJ show with, a musical encyclopedia and always there with a beer and a smile when you need one.  No MMJ show is complete without you!  And Eric & Mr. Yac, it was most certainly an extra bonus sharing the cabin and good times with two brothers-in-arms who I always enjoy spending time with. Very easy and it all added up to one big holiday.  This band and these shows are always just a little bit more special when you can share it with another bunch of crazies who really know how to mix the ingredients for special lifetime moments.

Thanks everyone.  Until Red Rocks and Merriweather . . . . .

i realize that eveyone is going to think the show they saw was the best, but in no way, shape, or form does a show with so many technical problems outshine what we saw in louisville last week.

i remember thinking, "do they realize jim's guitar isn't working?" during gideon, and, as has been noted, it happened more than once during the evening.  the guys did a great job soldiering on through the numerous glitches, but it bugged me watching the stream, and would have really annoyed me had i paid the money and made the trip to be there in person.

so, in summary, the louisville show was better. nanny nanny boo boo.  :P

What a great weekend ending with a phenomenal show! Magh33ta (great meeting you, btw) did a great review here so I can't really add to that, other than as usual the band had me rocking, head banging and grinning the whole time. Loved Jim's boots, jumps, high kicks, etc!  ;D
I have to say that I really enjoyed the new songs, I thought Black Metal in particular worked really well live, Victory Dance and Circuital as well. I think my favorite is always going to be Steam Engine. But the whole show was just fantastic, sound was great - I think you could hear Bo a lot better than past shows - crowd was pumped, weather was perfect. I have dozens of pictures which I will try to post, but they will definitely be up on facebook if anyone wants to add me there.
Many thanks to Jonny for setting up the condo, had a blast hanging out with all the forumites - bluesky, brooke, penny, headhunter and my fellow "fence rockers" magh33ta, ynwa & lil sis. Really looking forward to seeing all of you again in the near future.
Last but not least, thanks so much to my good friend Eric for driving me up and back, always a pleasure hanging out with you and I'll see you in a couple weeks.
And how about this - just as I'm finishing up typing this the doorbell rings and my deluxe package has FINALLY arrived!  8)

La barba de Castro:
"A quick google search of some of those lyrics brought up this:"

Gil Scott-Heron - A Sign Of The Ages (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGjojohhITs#)

La barba de Castro googled the lyrics when it happened, apparently the end part was actually a cover of Gil Scott Heron's "A Sign of the Ages".  I would assume this was a tribute because Heron passed away May 27, 2011.

Comedian Zach Galifianakis rocks out with My Morning Jacket at Mountain Jam

Comedian Zach Galifianakis was at Mountain Jam Sunday evening, checking out the band My Morning Jacket at the music festival staged by Radio Woodstock and Warren Haynes in the heart of the Catskills.

Galifianakis, who is currently starring in the hit comedy film, "The Hangover: Part II," milled around backstage at Mountain Jam, which began Thursday and wrapped up Sunday night at Hunter Mountain. Galifianakis chatted up fans, graciously posed for pictures and spoke with Gary Chetkof, president of Radio Woodstock, and Haynes, guitarist for the Allman Brothers Band and Gov't Mule.

Galifianakis is a very big fan of My Morning Jacket and was at Mountain Jam because a childhood friend of his from North Carolina, where he grew up, now lives in Mt. Tremper, which sits west of Woodstock, not far from Hunter Mountain.

"I have been a fan of My Morning Jacket for a number of years," Galifianakis told the Journal. "I saw they were playing here and saw that it close to his house and we came up."

Galifianakis first heard My Morning Jacket when he was in a North Carolina record store about 10 years ago, and the store was playing the band's record.

"You know how sometimes you find a band early on and you follow them before they get known?" he said. "It's one of those kind of things...I kept up with them and saw them at open mikes."

Galifianakis said the Catskills were beautiful and credited Mountain Jam organizers with running a great show and for not over-commercializing the event.

"This is a great festival because it's small," he said. "I love it. I'm so glad that you don't see a Pepsi sign around."

I'm still trying to process just how amazing yesterday was.  It is definately one for the books.  :D

Picked up ynwa around 8:30 and started our trip up to Hunter.  We made it up in about two hours.  Always wanted to ski there but never put the effort in to make those plans. Funny that all it took was my favorite band to make that trip.

It was great to see some of the forum friends that we have met and formed friendships with over the past year.  Can't even say how awesome it is to meet a bunch of people that you have no history with , see them every few months and greet each other with big smiles and hugs each time.  Thank you Johnny Yac & Headhunter for letting us meet up with you at the condo before heading over to the festival.  Headhunter and Eric took care of us to make sure we had our parking passes and were so kind enough to meet us down the hill so we could follow them up to where we needed to be.  So awesome to walk in and see Penny, Br00ke, bluesky, JY & JaneCool all in the same room.  Jump started the day with a cup of champagne (thanks JC) and a toast.

The weather was absolutely perfect.  The forecast threatened of rain but it held off the entire day.  Perfectly cool temperature with some sunlight.  I couldn't get over that the stages were set up at the bottom of the ski slopes.  It was so amazing to turn around and see this huge mountain with all of the trail cutouts.  Beautiful.

We had a nice spot where we were all hanging out while the majority of the bands played.  Soon after Ghosts and his gf, Magh33ta and Fidldle joined us.  Another reunion with big smiles and hugs.  We hung back while the super Edward Sharpe fans rushed the stage.  Didn't feel like being a psycho too soon and let them have their fun.  As soon as their set was over we booked it for the rail.  ynwa, Magh33Ta, JaneCool and I all got spots right in front of Jim.  Of course there were some assholes trying to push their way in but we had quite a boxout enforcement going on.  Don't mess with Texas but don't fuck with Jersey.

A little disappointed that I couldn't see the second stage where PHJB with Jim were performing, but as I mentioned to my rail buddies sometimes there are sacrifices you have to make to get what you really want.  Grace Potter kicked ass.  This was my second time seeing her and I can honestly say I really enjoyed her set.  Oh and did I mention those legs?  Sweet Jesus.

And now onto the boys.  Victory Dance is just a super awesome song to start the show with that build up.  Loved this song since the first listen and I love it even more now that I've seen it live.  Really happy they played most of the Circuital record.  There were still some questionable songs for me that I definately can appreciate more now.  I still hate the first verse of First Light but it was a rocker and I rocked out to it.

First time I heard PWW and Heartbreaking Man live.  Was SOOOO happy to hear PWW.  That was  stellar performance.  Steam Engine---what can I really say here?  I have been fortunate to see them play this a few times already and I think every time they play it I saw it was the best one.  I can honestly say last night was the best.  I even had a feeling they were going to play it.  I turned to ynwa and said it was coming and god did it smack me right in the face.  I actually had goosebumps all over both of my arms at one point.  Loved what they did at the end of the song but couldn't make out Jim's words for the life of me.  All I know is that it sounded beautiful.

The ground was literally shaking from all of the jumping (mine included) during end of Run Thru > Touch me Part II > OBH.  Face melting in full effect in that trifecta.  Jim had some super sweet high kicks (and ynwa and I actually had a convo on the way home and determined he must do yoga to stay flexible  ;D).  He had me cracking up with some of his moves.  Always get a huge kick out of that.  Highly Suspicious with PHJB was A-MAZING.  Loved that collaboration.  Also loved Dancefloors.  I pretty sure everyone in the crowd was dancing.  Also loved that they closed with Mahgheeta instead of OBH.  Loved even more that I could look over at Kyle (Mahgh33ta) and give him a power high five during that moment.

This show was a complete high.  We waited around for a bit after in hopes of "one more song" or a setlist.  People were asking one of the security guys if the boys were coming back out at all and when he said no I looked at him and said "Setlist?".  He disappeared and I thought nothing more of it.  Then about 10 minutes later out of nowhere I turn my head and see him back in front of the rail and about to give this other guy Jim's setlist.  He turned his head and recognized me and that I was still there and gave me the setlist instead.  Totally not expecting it but was obviously ecstatic to take it.  I felt a little bad for the other dude but not that bad.  ;)

This was honestly my favorite show to date (and being that this is the longest post I've ever written is proof).  Everything was just perfect.  I'm so looking forward to Red Rocks and MPP and seeing all of you again.

AWESOME!  Great hanging with everyone, as usual. It was such a chill, fun day of music. Jacket destroyed it. My girlfriend Amy had to sit down for a little, the music and her earplugs were making her dizzy, but she took them out and she felt better. She dug it (it was her first show). Great time.

How long were the jammy tracks? Did PWW clock in around 8:00 or more like 15:00?

I'm afraid rumors of my rockin' the rail were slightly exaggerated.  I was with the bulk of forum folks at blankets maybe 10 back.  Kyle, Fiddle, Liz, and the Lauras represented the front line.

A great weekend made perfect with wonderful friends.  Thanks to all who shared this time with me, making it memorable beyond the live music.

Thanks especially to my roommates.

The details of the show are well-covered, so I'll leave it at that.

Got to chat briefly with Jim, Carl, Bo, and Patrick on their way to see Dawes perform.  I offered to have them join our forum crew on our blankets in front of the main stage, but...

A nice quality audio broadcast of the show is easily downloaded at Mystic Chords of Memory Blog spot.  Very very nice quality and very easy to burn to a cd or your ipod.
Nice to have this less than 24 hours later

Oh man, what a show!  So happy for you all, and totally enjoyed all of your reviews!  We were so happy to be able to join the fun via webcast, though I must say, I was having pangs of regret throughout the whole show --- ESP DURING STEAM ENGINE!  Man alive, that was ridiculous, and we were freaking out trying to figure out what was happening with the sound.  Shit!
MPP will be the best "something to look forward to" all summer!

Until Red Rocks and Merriweather . . . . .

Just saw this. Jeff, I'll buy you a beer anytime brother. Merriweather?

well now... these are some really excellent reviews!!!  so much has already been covered re: the show & way better than i could ever author.  i can never really find the right words to describe what happens @ a mmj show :D  i just have to say that i'm so glad i decided to head up for mmj day on the mtn.  what a great day & night!!!

thanks to lil sis for being the most awesome partner in crime a gal could ever hope for.  our mmj road trips just keep getting better & better.  sister bonding done up right  :)

BIG thanks also to the cabin crew for welcoming us into your mmj cave for a little pre-festy fun.  you guys sure don't mess around... walking in to trays of jell-o shots, a bottle of champagne being uncorked & just about any other type of party beverage imaginable seemed to be offered.  as well as other consumable tasty treats  ;)     as jim often says, "thanks a lot gang!"

all that aside - the best part was getting to hang out with you all.  i wish there had been a more time, but there are other times coming up where we'll be able to max & relax.   it's been said before, but i must echo previous sentiments about how utterly wonderful it is to meet up & hang with fellow fans; all of whom are just about the kindest, most genuine & fun-loving people on this planet & it just warms my heart every time.  i would liken it to when the grinch is won over by the innate goodness & love of the who-villans.  love you all :-* :-* :-*

Everyone posted great reviews. the show was amazing to say the least. we had planned on getting up front but with getting to see JJ with PHJB we didnt mind being half way back with lots of room to dance around.

my only complaint is CHAIRS! wtf is up with the chairs in the front row? I guess with the crowd being older they like to stake out spots. that's cool and all but no chairs shall be allowed in the front row of MMJ.

here are two photos from jj with phjb

Just saw this now! Ha! Funny story from Sunday night. I ended up in the camping section having a jam session on my bagpipes with some other musicians playing guitar and drums. Zach ended up rolling up on the jam session and hanging out for a bit. I turned around and said what's up to some dude with a beard after I finished playing a set. I thought it was my other buddy who has a beard. But it was Zach. The next day my friends were like, Zach was digging your bagpipes! LOL  ;D  He def enjoyed himself at the Festival. It must have been 1 or 2am when he was chilling at the jam session!

Thanks MrB and Johnny for sharing this!  So nice to relive this even if it is just a portion of the night. (Video and audio aren't matching up in places though..)

I spy Magh33tah, JaneCool, ynwa & myself on the rail at the end of Gideon and during the beginning of First Light.  Thankfully there is nothing embarassing to note.

LOVED Dancefloors.  And, once again, love Jim's high kicks!

awesome footage - it's so great to have this to help re-live an amazing night!  pretty hilarious to watch yourself on camera, luckily it wasn't anything embarrassing, lord knows it very well could've been :-X

it can never be said enough - LOVE jim's high kicks!

I agree with everyone else, thanks JY for pulling that together.

Actually, while watching, this:

it reminded me I took a video of that song.  I like the memento but it kinda takes me out of the moment (and annoys me when others do it) - so I limit it to one song per show.   I'd COMPLETELY forgotten until I saw this video so I'll dig that up tonight.

Found a few more of us, but you got the rail!  Sorry if I missed some others, but I think Carl is blocking our view.

I have most of the set, minus i think the last two songs when my computer software shit the bed... the audio is off by about a second or second and a half... anyone care to fix it so these folks can relive their show?

I'd give it a go if no one else volunteers.

damn I was spoiled with a good view.   Sound is a bit distorted (it was loud!).   Catch a sneak peek at some VIPs at 1:34 to see how Jersey Girls rock out

Had to go back 19 PAGES to find this thread!  Listened to this on the way to visit my Dad.  What a great show!  An early and intense Phone Went West.  A 15 minute Steam Engine.  A Mahgeeta closer.  Great to relive my first show of 2011.  Can't wait for my last show of the year, my 6th this year.  And tonight is the 1-year anniversary of the best MMJ show I've experienced - Portland (taping, please).

The version of Steam Engine from this show has been the best to date. Does anyone know where the lyrics toward the end of the song are from?

The only lyrics I remember from that new section of Steam Engine were "Growing up way to fast", or something along those lines

Been in the process of making a compilation of MMJ this year with archive.org/other torrents and noticed this. Was on a hangout>waka>b-roo run and didnt keep up with much else at the time, waka must have got YY's mind right for this though. You can tell in his voice he's really emoting it all at this place, awesome banter.. amazing Steam Engine, even in the first verse you can tell he's really feelin it.

NY just kills it with MMJ shows, you guys are lucky

Post MSG edit: more proof Jim's use of the "spiritual pipeline" or whatever you wanna call it. Gill Scott-Heron lyrics at the end of Steam Engine here.

Anxiously awaiting the lineup.......

Last year was a real blast and hoping this year will be to (although I doubt mmj will be there again)

Yeah, MMJ is highly unlikely.  Would still be a great time.  My "good will" budget with Michele is low, however, and mention of Forecastle did not go well.  Still curious to see the lineup.

Johnny, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one in the doghouse for mmj trips. ;D

Hm. I know it is just the initial lineup, but this does not tickle my balls as much as I was hoping. Also, they can stop listing Mule first and acting as if that is a big deal.. it is their fest... we already know they will be there.

I think they have another headliner to announce? Give me Mumford, Ryan Adams or Wilco and ill be there. Otherwise I'm not so sure.

i think they'll add another big headliner, too..

It is rare they add another headliner....additions are usually smaller bands....right now I see Winwood closing Sunday.  slight chance they add Wilco.

Either way I'm prob not going....this lineup is kind of weak IMO.
