Don't know much about any other details, but this is an obvious must-see for anyone attending SXSW. Enjoy!
It does exist! I wonder how we will be able to get our hands on it after the premiere...
Yeaaaaaaa!!!! I hope it includes the entire performance. Every single second.

Agreed! I have been dying to see that video. I sat right next to Danny at the show. Can't wait for this to become available to the masses. Its time for this intimate little event to open up to the rest of us. Its gonna be spiritual.

In line for movie. Jim just walked by. Any chance they all play after the screening. Me is hopeful!
So exciting! Are the guys from Preservation hall there? Please report back if possibly...
Haven't seen any here but I know they are in town for SXSW.
The PHB and Jim paraded up the street and into the paramount where they performed unplugged. Pretty sweet.
Sounds amazing!!! hopefully some photos will turn up

Sounds like what happened that night in NOLA!!! What a splendid re-enactment  Can't wait to hear about all the details!
I forgot my camera but there were plenty of peeps taking pics and video. They stayed and watched the movie, which is great. I shook Jim's hand and he told me he was playing with PHJB for their ACL taping tonight and leaving tomorrow morning.
Will Johnson was there too. Got to talk to him for a few minutes as well. Such a sweet guy.
Did the movie show the entire performance like a typical concert film, or was it all broken up into interviews and snippets more like a documentary?
Oh and does Jim moisturize??
note for all the fans... if you see jim james tell him to make sure they release the t5 shows! (for japan relief of course)
also jim is there bo is there and isn't carl there?
mmj tweet:
"RT @mspark: YO MMJ fans.. if you're in austin you should, you know, head down to ACL tonight for the @PresHall set. #sxsw #surprise"
damn i wish i was there. make sure everyone there takes videos of this surprise. especially if it's mmj playing new songs
Wish it was me taking these. Credit to http://twitpic.com/photos/jimthecritic (http://twitpic.com/photos/jimthecritic)

i see her, too! nice! can someone forward those pics to her in text? she's asking to see them, but i don't follow the guy tweeting.
the movie is just over an hour. it has interviews and a few whole songs from the show (mother in law, don dante, at dawn). there was a Q and A afterwards and they said someday a soundtrack would be released but it will be awhile.
the movie really makes you feel like you're there.
I need to see dondante from this

it was the best part for me too.
Cameron, thanks for the info. I would hope if a DVD comes out, it would contain some extra footage from that show at Pres. Hall, preferably the whole thing. Did the film only have those 3 tunes, or those plus PHJB w/YY (Louisiana Fairytale, St. James Infirmary, etc.)? I'm thinking LF would be in as it is the title of the film.
2010-04-24 Preservation Hall - New Orleans, LA

Highly Suspicious was in it too, and maybe Carnival Time? I'll confer with my friends and see if we can remember.
The film is gorgeous looking and so heartfelt. I hope you all get to see it. I spoke to Danny Clinch afterward and he said it would be available on DVD at some point but had no idea when. He was incredibly gracious - it was a real thrill to meet him as I've been a fan of his work for a long time.

I hope sooner rather than later. Thanks for doing some investigatory journalism!
There's a cool little interview Danny Clinch did over at http://www.ifc.com/sxsw/video/ (http://www.ifc.com/sxsw/video/) where he says that the film currently doesn't have anyone to distribute it, but if someone does buy the film he has some great ideas about the release including a special packaged dvd with a photo book and he said he would love to release the full concert on vinyl. Also the original idea was that someone like IFC would turn it into a series where different bands play with Preservation Hall Jazz Band at Preservation Hall.
Thanks for posting the interview link. It was great what Danny said about Charlie the clarinet player, that guy has a lot of magnetism on stage!

No distributor?? WTF? Ok I'll be the one to ask, how much for the film? Maybe the forum should just buy it. That would be cool if MMJ fans owned the rights to this.
Ps Yes I am kidding but, what if?

It was a kiiiiiiiiiiller Dondante.
Just looping back around with this with a few things I forgot to mention earlier (still in post-SXSW daze): our own Sassbox/Lila is in about 95% of the scenes, all front and center (yay!) and our own NoVa NoLa/Sha has a cameo at the very end, as the cameras follow the band out into the street for a spirited Second Line.
Very, very very cool to see these ladies on the big screen! :)
So, is there no trailer or clip available from this film? I'd think we'd see a little something by now. All I'm finding online are cell phone vids.
Also, I can't imagine we could muster the amount of $$$ required to own this film, but I like the idea.
I'm going to need this on DVD, like, right now.

Awesome! Wish I was home to see it!! It was truly a pleasure to see at bonnaroo, but it only made me wish they would do a live release of the tunes!
It'd be mighty sweet if someone snuck a camera into the showing too (ahem ;))

Well, I've got a few days to acquire a camera...all I'd really need is someone stealthy. ;)

I'm wondering whatever happened to this film. I can't seem to find it anywhere. It's like it dropped off the earth after the 2011 festival runs.
Anyone know if it is available somewhere?

We keep getting told by Danny Clinch that it will receive a home video release at some point, but its been a while since we've heard anything at all about it.
