GODDAMN NEW JERSEY BAR EXAM! THE ONLY ONE I STAND A CHANCE AT ACTUALLY PASSING!
At first I was all like "This is awesome! I'm unemployed and will have absolutely nothing to do besides look for things to do starting next Friday, February 26th. It would be so super awesome if there was something for me, a 28 year old over the age of 18 and located in the NYC area, to do to celebrate the past 2 months of round-the-clock studying. If only I had something to do in NYC that day"
I guess all of your odds just went up by .1%. Your welcome. I'm glad to take one for the team
So exciting! :o
oh and thanks, CC!
so they are making a video.
i hope it's pirate themed.
i'd like to dress as a panda...with an eye patch.
will patrick validate my parking for the day?
Oh the suspense! What a way to kick off the day!
See, good things do come out of living in NJ! ;D

Lots of people on the board right now. At this rate, I'll be free next week not because I took the day off work, but because I was fired for "excessive internet activity/social networking."

re: the GOOD things from NJ/snooki convo - i've remained firm in my refusal to watch that show. i cannot support something that portrays my home state in such a negative & totally stereotypical way. but isn't she NOT from NJ anyway? i thought i'd heard that at one point. err, not that i really care or anything :-\

I have no idea what I'm doing here besides procrastinating. I already know for a fact I'm 100% unable to participate. Perhaps it's the knowing I can't have it is what makes me want it so much more, no matter what it is. It could be free colon cancer screenings and at this point, I wouldn't care.

Man this is so cool and I hope I can get the day out of work and be chosen.
I understand the process of choosing the fans but I am somewhat put off about having to write how big of a fan I am. It just seems really weird. I mean, I am gonna do it anyways but something about trying to put words about how much they mean to me both seems awkward and also I have never been quite good at that kind of thing.
Anyone else feel that way?
If someone goes, I'd like to get some back story on the laser harp, so if anyone wants to put that in their questions. Where'd it come from, why, what about it, why not just do the usual epic thing and get at theramin, etc.
man...that is awesome
i'll be in buffalo that day, but flying home from the NY bar exam...kinda makes me wish I had taken my friend up on his offer to crash at his place in the city that weekend after my exam....damn
oh well....have fun peeeeeeples
i'll remember to set my DVR whenever the show airs

Nah, when I email them they have no idea who I am or what I"m all about. It's a casting agency (not like the band or management would either if they were hand-picking forum members). If I may be snobby for a moment, it also lets them screen out the people who just like I'm Amazed and know nothing else, and probably acts as a way to filter out the people who just show up to throw glow sticks.
Where is my email?!?!?!? ???

Yea, I totally understand why they are asking us to do it, it's just my own inability to sit down and conjure up something worthwhile or worthy I guess. Still gonna attempt it, it's more appealling and gives a better chance than lottery system I presume

Yeah I get you. It's sort of like when you go to an interview and they're like "so why should we hire you?" and you want to say "because I need the money and this is a job, why else? Isn't it obvious?"

I saw the email.Good luck New Yorkers! I hope all the chosen ones post so we know who's representing! They better have bananas and coconut water in their budget for Crafty.

the "what makes you such a fan" part .. yeah, i felt a little cheesy but i love MMJ and they make me cheesy so that's OK ;)
TICKETS PLEASE .. PAWS CROSSED .. SACRIFICES MADE TO MUSICAL GODS !!
im freaking out. hope i get tix!
You New Yorkers/East Coasters are so lucky! First T5, and now this. I hate you. ;) Oh well, at least tomorrow night I get to see Carl!
I wanna hear what you wrote for your questions and what makes you the biggest fan or whatever! Please do share. I was trying to think of what I would write if I was going to bother emailing and I have no idea.
Good luck!!
I applied anyway, with a note at the top saying "PLEASE CONSIDER ME IF THIS GETS POSTPONED FOR SOME REASON"
My proof of fandom: cutting my honeymoon short to go to T5
I just hope it's fair in that they pick a good amount of fans who actually take the time to send in a submission and not just fill the audience with turds.
That's right...I said turds.
I just looked at a clip on there web site from Christina Agulara Storyteller, looks like a pretty decent size audience, though many turds...
No invite? What's up?

I thought you said Jim gives you the creeps.
Done and done!!
As if waiting for tour dates to be announced so we can plan our summers isn't enough, now we'll have a few more anxious days and nights ;)
Good luck everyone, and I second Ky's last turdy post.
this would be so EPIC! i was lucky to see the Letterman taping, this would possibly take the cake :)
Guys, relax, they have this filtration system to screen out the turds.
That's how you know Ruckus won't be there
OH SNAP
sent mine in. hard to explain the lunacy that drives me without sounding like the men in the white jackets should come and take me away.
we're all Fans (as in Fanatics) and we all know it. they should pick ALL of us.
I'm in! My 3 questions were:
1. For Jim James. What do the lyrics to your songs mean to you? For me, in a song like "The Bear" or "Golden", the lyrics are so deep and meaningful. But I guess that is the beauty of music. Each song can mean something different to each person. However, I read somewhere that the words you sing are more about their sound then their meaning? Is it true you try to choose words that harmonize and blend with the rest of the band. Because, in my opinion your voice is just another instrument in the band but the words that you sing can have such a impact on the song. I feel that your earlier recordings were more from your soul and your later stuff is you evolving with the band.
2. For the band. How great was it to have Jimmy Quaid back on stage with you again the first night at T-5 for the Tenn Fire album?
3. For Patrick Hallahan. What was it like to play Levon's drum kit at his barn that night in Woodstock? You looked like the happiest little kid up on stage that night :)

this better get answered:
QuoteAre Pooch & Denise brother and sister, or are they lovers?
If they let you ask questions at the show, someone better ask if they brought ba ba bananas nanas
If you guys don't all get picked I will be pissed! I like the Pooch and Denise question. That's a good one.
And if anyone needs a guest to accompany you, let me know and I will fly out out there! ::)
I cannot attend this completely awesome thing and I am sad :'(
I'll try and settle the "Whats Jim saying at the end of Steam Engine?" debate if can. He probabaly wont say regardless, but still.
holy shit us New Yorkers are ridiculously lucky, and actually getting a little spoiled. Once again though, thank you MMJ!

If cities we're children of MMJ Louisville would be the fat child that they lied to when they said they love each of their children the same, where as NYC would be the talented brain surgeon that made them proud.
good lord that was a process! i mean, geez, how does one explain why they love mmj so much w/out coming off as a crazy person? not possible. and 3 questions? i have, like, millions of 'em normally; but put on the spot like that my brain went totally blank. wtf :-\
honestly, i like the idea of weeding out most of the "turds" ( ;D) so i appreciate the idea behind this method. but if i don't get picked i'm going to feel like such a failure. am i not fan enough? ::) ;D
good luck to us all!

I applied...y'all know I would fly out for this in a heartbeat. Great excuse to see the folks I missed at the T5 reunion!
I had trouble with the questions...I wanted to get my responses in quick, but didn't want to sound like a complete idiot.
Gah. Good luck everyone! :bath:
E-mail sent, fingers, legs, toes and eyeballs all appropriately crossed for tickets. I don't live in NYC but am able to spend all of Thursday, Friday and Saturday there, if necessary! Thanks to MMJ, MMJ management and Monsieur Riny!
Sent mine in earlier today as soon as I found out, did it so fast forgot to write on it that I found out about the tickets from being a member of the forum. Duh! Went back added that info in and resent it. Could really blow my chance or totally make it :P
Hmm. Seems I submitted questions for the band back in October... :(
Good luck to you lucky New Yorkers. I posted a more snarky response to the news this afternoon, out of jealousy, that didn't appear to make it onto the board. ::)
Can't blame those who can go for the fact that the taping will be in La Grande Pomme. I won't mind if an Omnichord question makes the cut. I'd also love to hear what Jim has to say about songwriting with emotional honesty, such as "none of this is physical" or "your ass it draws me in..." which I discussed with a fine lady this past weekend.
Again, good luck and represent!

I applied anyway on the off chance taping is delayed (you never know?) and included an onmnichord question (general - where/why/how did you get it, what does it do for you, and how has it shaped your approach, or something to that effect). I said they can use my questions even if I'm not selected, so if that makes the cut, I dedicate it to you, comrade

:dankk2:

Haha, I said I was a member when explaining that JohnnYYacc and Sticky and I are slowly working on a covers project!
If I didn't have meetings with the HUD next week, I'd be there in a heartbeat. Stupid work!

I'll try and settle the "Whats Jim saying at the end of Steam Engine?" debate if can. He probabaly wont say regardless, but still.
DAMN! Wish I thought of this one. Good question though.

hurt to re-submit. actually, based on that, i think it would help more than hurt.

ok. this is really strange & i'm not explaining now out of fear of jinxing myself :-X
edit: must add that i have NOT rec'd the email yet, nor do i have any kind of inside scoop (i so wish i did).
hate to quote myself, well, if i'm being honest - i don't hate to quote myself
all the time but, ANYWAY...
i have my iPod set to shuffle for my alarm. this morning, tom waits' "cold cold ground" woke me up & as i was struggling to get out of bed, i thought of tom waits' storytellers gig (my introduction to tom waits, the musical & lyrical genius he is) & wondered what had happend to the show (storytellers) in general. NO LIE.
i guess since i've sent in my submission i won't be jinxing myself by saying this "out loud" now. or should i say i hope?
i loved this show & am very excited to see all of the good stuff that's coming down the pike for us.
The thought of potentially getting tickets for this is consuming my brain.
The chances of hearing new songs at this are pretty high, I think, as it'll most likely air around the time or after the new album drops.

I haven't checked in to the forum in a while and had no idea there was an announcement coming. I watched the email from the band hit my inbox yesterday, and like bluesky got freaked out about the "tickets will go fast" thing. I'm near Nashville, but I have a job that allows me to take last minute time off. SO, I went ahead and got approved for the time off and sent my email to the people in less than 10 minutes. I was concise with my reasons for liking the band (hopeful that a previous trip to see them in New York mixed with the 18 other times I've seen them across the country would be enough.) But now I too am worried that I didn't send them a deep enough synopsis of my love of all things MMJ. I WANT TO GO SO VERY BADLY! Haha.
I'm sure everyone in this thread can agree with that sentiment. There is not one other band in this world that could get me to make a last minute trip halfway across the country. Ah to be an MMJ fan! But yeah, if those booking people make their way into this forum...ellisintransit (Kris Ellis) has the time and money to make this trip from Nashville! Hook it up! Hahahaha!

If cities we're children of MMJ Louisville would be the fat child that they lied to when they said they love each of their children the same, where as NYC would be the talented brain surgeon that made them proud.
I think it has more to do with the fact that the NYC child owns the studio where VH1 records Storytellers.
also VH1 is based in NYC, as for studios though, VH1 (or MTV N) does not own studios for these shows, they rent spaces, dress them, and then film in them... past places for Storytellers have been Avalon (what was Limelight) in NYC and BAM in Brooklyn
BAM is in my neighborhood .. i'd be stoked to go there as i know some really excellent spots for a post-show get together while we share in the OMG feeling  hope we hear so0o0on!!!

100% correct, but i bet MMJ has no problem promoting themselves and visiting a city they love playing in

Got my confirmation email.

COOL! I guess they are coming out slowly?? Still waiting for mine!
Maybe we arent big enough fans..
i can't believe no one else has heard yet .. between you guys (ultimate fans) and my other NYC music group friends (pretty big fans but not ULTIMATE!). there's no way i'm the only person, no friggin' way .. you guys have to get tix, i feel it !! KEEP THE FAITH !!!!!
ETA: Congrats Rats  .. yeah sounds like they are slowing coming out. KEEP THE FAITH PEOPLE !!
not asking for you to spill the beans or anything, but did they tell you the location of the event yet, or just telling you that you need to reply and they will give you all the info next week (I have been 2 stroytellers in the past, and it has worked that way)
i heard people are recieving confirmations already.. any word on that? i've checked my email like 1,000x. haha
and i just jammed out to MMJ for like 90 mins straight hoping the rock gods would take my offering of sweat as a sign that i should be at the taping.
god i hope i get picked....
they asked to reply to confirm your availability and said they'd follow up with a phone call and another email with final details
no confirmation of venue or time yet
no hard tickets, just a guest list
email also said not to post the venue anywhere once they provide the details because "the venue cannot accommodate a big crowd trying to get in", whatever that means
Yeah makes sense, they also dont want a huge crowd outside the palce... 1 Storytellers I went to had actual tickets (DMB) then another (Pearl Jam) only had a guest list... if I dont get a confirmation email, I think i still have a great shot getting in, hope it works out...
UUUGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH HOPE I GET ONE. if i don't and anybody needs a guest, lunch is on me!
are you guys getting confirmation acknowledging your emails or are you getting confirmation that you have been chosen.
(what's the world record for refreshing an e-mail in-box in any one day?)
I'm sad. :(
I am too but i am not giving up hope. I will attend.
congrats brooke & rats21 - that is awesome
only 2 from here so far. hmmmm..... must mean that we all sent in really good questions & essays which is making it tough for them to choose ;) i'm staying positive.
Thinking positive thoughts too.
On a related note...this is elevating my disdain for spam email to much higher levels. Man o Man.
speaking of spam, I assume y'all are checking your spam folders for the email as well. Good luck!
the email i received was confirmation of being selected
just an FYI - I responded probably within 10 minutes of when I got the email yesterday, I mentioned that I saw the post in the forum and generally responded like a giddy 16-year-old girl which is I think (and seemingly) what these casting places are looking for
edit: and while i was constantly monitoring my gmail spam folder as well, the confirmation email came right into my inbox

Seems to me that everyone's approach is all wrong here. We, the mighty forum family, were given an advanced warning of this so they obviously would like forum related questions. I live in Florida, and allthough it often feels like New York I am in fact many miles away and must send my regrets. Questions that will do the trick include:
1. How does it feel in a band with someone you used to date Jim and Patrick?
2. Did you know that Tracy was wounded at the battle of Nom-doc in 'Nam?
3. Did you ever receive that macaroni-art tribute?
4. Forum members for $800 Alex, "This Forum member 'is Music'" Who is...???
5. Bigger forum dust-up, Alabama football or the Beijing Olympics?
6. Who is the biggest asshole in rock? Biggest douche? Can you be an asshole and a douche?
7. Biggest forum loss; Ratsprayer, K, or MJK?

Hey guys,
we want you to be aware that we would never associate with a company that would write the kind of email that is rumored to have been sent. Here is an official statement from Gotham Casting:
"Gotham Casting became aware of a rumor being started regarding "Rejection Letters" to MMJ Fans for their upcoming Storytellers. We would like to make it very clear that NO such email ever went out, as we have NOT sent "Rejection Emails", and never have in the history of our company. Our company has been in charge of coordinating audiences for Storytellers and Unplugged for years and we pride ourselves on doing everything in our power to make sure the hardcore fans are represented. We have been working very closely this past week with MMJ's management to make sure that we got as many NYC hardcore fans in as we possibly could, hence why it was put on the Forum first. We are trying our best to get as many fans in as possible, but there is unfortunately a number of seats that we are allotted. However, as people cancel, and more seats are added, we add more people. This is why we would NEVER send a rejection letter, because there is always a chance of getting in, and we wouldn't exclude anyone so quickly. Not to mention that we would never reject someone because they are "not the type of fan we are looking for", because there are no "types" in specials like this. Our job is get the word out and make sure we have the biggest fans that are going to be the best audience for the band. MMJ and their management have been so helpful with this process and we would NEVER send an email that so rudely disrespects their fans. We hope to see as many of you as possible on February 24th, and we apologize for any inconvenience or anger this rumor may have caused, but hopefully you understand that this is something our company would never do."
Well that makes me feel better.
well that is reassuring.
"So you're telling me there's a chance..."
Sorry, everyone. I just got this email,
"El Chode,
We were hoping you'd respond. In light of your awesomeness, we've decided to postpone the entire thing until you're able to make it. So just let us know what time works for you and when, and we'll work around that. Given your super-importanteness of the band and former association with Wyld Stallyns, we've revoked all ticket offers until further notice. Attached to this email is a list of all submissions. Pick and choose as you see fit. Anyone who does not live up to your standards will be sent to an alternate location for prompt castration.
Cheers,
Gotham City Casting & the Goddamn Batman"
just a good luck to everyone still waiting! I am away on vacation - unavoidable - otherwise I'd be begging / pleading / doing what I can to be there . What an opportunity. So I'm remarkably calm and resigned to missing. Can't wait for the reports.
What awful luck that they tape during school vacation week.
This suspense is killling me! If I havent gotten one of these "confirmation emails" should I count myself out, or are we still holding out hope?

I agree. Not to sound elietist, but we shouldve been represented better, regardless of if I personally got in. it is what it is though.
i would say that a bunch of us had our responses in within 10 min of that email (in fact most of us)..not sure who these others are...there were 300 lurkers? i guess most of them went to insiders, or people connected with the band, or all the damn interns at Gotham Management...pfffffft

so far only 1 regular forum poster has gotten in?
Who you callin regular? ;)
I'd say Brooke is exceptional to say the least!
oh Brooke is one hot bitch, don't get me wrong..
Just bustin, Penny. ;)
I knew what you were saying, and I was hoping some more "regulars" got in too.
given the state of the world today i guess nobody should say the word "riot"
:o
maybe it will be in my in-box in the morning
Its nothing an epic 4 hour bonnaroo set cant cure.
i am super stoked and shocked :o shocked that no one else got in and shocked that i was the one that did. i don't think there is anything particularly special about my entry. i will say though that i did get super cheesy and actually mentioned you guys / the friends i've made through MMJ (http://www.thejamgirlz.com/phorums/images/smiles/049.gif)

You will represent us well, honey!!! Be our eyes and ears and don't forget all the details. I think this is awesome and I'm happy at least one person we know got in. And at least it's something that will air on TV and those of us who didn't go will get to see it somehow!

I've been more of a semi-active observer of this whole shabongle, psychically trying to pull some magic strings for everyone who was in the thick of it.... glad at least one string pulled through!!! Don't you fret, you de I said de I mean DESERVE it!  Man oh man! Heaven on earth! I can't WAIT for this to go down!!! :o :o *high five!!!*

This might be the first place people see a new song ???
and the story behind it!
so, i guess it's just silly of me to still be hopeful at this point, huh? like, maybe cc baxter's tip to mention that we're from the forum will come into play when some of those "allocated" seats free up from people cancelling ??? these are the things that keep running thru my head. self torture/denial?
but i'm super happy for our Br00ke! she will absolutely represent us well. i was with her when she rocked the eff out on the rail @ the ramble & T5. she'll do us proud alright. i think this may be a little good karma coming back to her (letterman).
Brooke! Meet me next Thursday night for bourbon after the performance and I will dictate the experience and post it for you!!! :-* :-* :-*
QuoteHowever, as people cancel, and more seats are added, we add more people. This is why we would NEVER send a rejection letter, because there is always a chance of getting in, and we wouldn't exclude anyone so quickly.
Don't give up hope!
(I knew that couldn't be true. Who would write such a thing?)
Still holding out hope, but I am beginning to wonder if being outside of New York...hurts my chances.
Edited to include: I would still kickdown for airfare, because it is my 30th birthday next Thurs.
I'm wondering what size crowd will be at this taping. Unless a number of forum members were chosen and haven't posted, only 3 members were chosen (2 of whom are relatively new or infrequent posters).
I'm assuming at least 50 people in the audience, probably more. Is there some other MMJ fan group I am unaware of? Am I in the wrong place for true blue hardcore MMJ fans?
I know the answer. Kinda weird. I was expecting to hear that dozens of forum members would populate this event, as seems right and appropriate.
I never was able to consider this but, like many, have been holding out hope for as many of you as can make it. Here's hoping there is another wave of acceptance emails in the next few days.
like the letterman thing .. i think more will end up going to this come tape time.
val, we should definitely meet up if you aren't there yourself :-* :-*

Not gonna lie, I was thinking that this might be the one time that incessantly posting on a message board actually has a benefit
there should be more than 50 people at the taping
The one I went to at BAM had prob about 600-700 people (there were empty seats and they let other fans in who didnt have tickets, to fill up seats)
The one I went to Avalon had a smaller crowd, but still a few hundred...
Congrats Brooke (& guest ), have a "wonderful" time. :) Should be a really special time.
The rest of us will wait until the spring to watch it on TV

Please don't take this the wrong way (I'm definitely not trying to offend) but I think it's important to remember that there are "devout" MMJ fans out in the world who aren't regular forum posters. I respect all of you guys for your input and enthusiasm for the band (as I've been reading this forum - not posting - for over 2 years) but don't think that just because you "got that old time feeling" then you're a more deserving fan that Jimmy Bob who lives in his car without a computer. Once again I'm not trying to offend just making an observation. Good luck everyone! Maybe somebody will drop out in the future and some more of us will get in!

I don't think that anyone believes if you don't post here you aren't the biggest fan. Hell I post over on the F'Lips website and the Black Keys occasionally but I'm not a hardcore fan of either of those bands. I think that because a lot of the people on here have built friendships, a lot of people would like to see some more NYC posters get chosen. And, the forum posters that were on at the right time were the first ones to find out about it, and the first ones to respond, as far as I know.
wait, 3 forum members? i thought i only saw 2 - Br00ke & Rats21... who's the 3rd?
i'd like to say that i don't think someone who has thousands of posts should be considered more deserving of tickets than a newbie or lurker. maybe that's because i was a fan of the music long before i checked out the forum and then did just lurk for a while before actually registerring.
forums aren't everyone's cup of tea but that doesn't mean they can't also be a superfan.
just my 2 cents :)

Your point is excellent, and not taken the wrong way. I meet people at the shows all the time who are clearly diehards and sometimes don't even know about the forum (I usually try to steer them here).
That said, it seems like the primary mechanism for ticket distribution was via the posting on the website and through the forum. We are at least the fans with the biggest on-line presence, so that's why I thought many of us would be accepted - because we'd be the ones applying.
How did Jimmy Bob living in a car without a computer submit his ticket request?
The distinction for me: not that we're more deserving, just that we're most likely to have heard about and responded within 24 hours. Seems like a process tailor made for forum junkies, so I too wonder - who got the tickets?
I'm not a regular poster, but I came out of hiding (as I thought others would) to talk about getting tickets so we could get an idea of how many really got them.
I've been a fan forever, went to all five T5 shows and Live at Letterman (thanks, Br00ke) last October and the jacket is definitely my favorite live show in the world.
I saw the board post at 1am on Tuesday night and was up discussing it til well past 3am. There are relatively few fans who actually post on here and I would imagine there is a large multiple of lurkers compared to the posters.
I hope more of you "regulars" find a way to make it into this show and I wouldnt give up hope yet. Gotham casting said that they would be continuously adding people as more people can't make it.
Definitely counting my lucky stars for getting selected.

Very good point. Sorry for my attitude. I post on other forums where people feel they need to measure their faithfulness through the amount of hours they spend on a computer...it seems to me like some people spend more time on their computer instead of listening to the music. But what am I saying? THis is the MMJ forum....MMJ fans are the greatest fans that have ever entered into fanaticism!

I wasn't trying to argue with you - nor should you apologize for my attitude. Here's another way to say what I'm trying to say. One of my very good friends, Sean "Riley" as some here call him, is a huge MMJ fan - calls them his favorite band, got T5 tix for 40th bday, traveled w/ me to Merriweather, etc... etc... Never been to the forum and has no time or interest. I would not call myself a bigger fan than him. So sure he is "deserving" of tix (if that's even a concept), but he had no clue about Storytellers and I doubt would have known about it if I hadn't mentioned it to him last night. By then dozens of forum members had likely already submitted requests.
all good points RE: forum posters / lurkers and non-members  i've been in love with the band since the 1st time i saw them live which was yearsssss before i joined the boards. i have been on phish forums for a long time .... the idea of an MMJ forum just never occurred to me until val/bluesky approached me on my way home from the beacon MOF show and told me i should join (love you val !!).

This. First time I saw I 'em live I knew they were gonna be special to me, but I didn't walk out of the venue thinking "I better see if they have a good forum." However, I am glad I joined this board and I do think it has pushed my personal fandom a little bit. I don't think I would ever know about storytellers with out this place. I don't think I would have nearly the amount of live music on my harddrive without suggestions from yall, etc. etc. etc. Not to mention the other music that I've discovered thanks to the "other music"section. I just like the internet in general and spend a lot of time on my computer, also.
Most importantly I would have no where to nerd out about MMJ, cause very few of my friends like the Jacket.
This post was intended to be about why this forum doesn't define your fandom, but I went instead in the direction of "I love this forum."

completely agree..i have a ton of posts but most of them are STOOPID as hell and not even MMJ related. my point about only 1 reg poster getting a ticket is that the announcement dropped and people here saw it here before the email went out so were anxiously awaiting (and therefore responded quickly)..in the email it said to respond quickly, therefore i thought they were taking them on first come first serve basis..THAT'S why i commented that i was shocked..there are thousands of awesome diehard fans who don't want to post or be a part of our 'family' here..that's cool, too..
thanks, brooky! i owe you much...i'll have to figure out how to repay you..
I don't think anyone would argue post count or membership merits deserving of tickets in the normal course of things. BUT in this case it sort of does matter in the sense that if you're going to "screen" your audience on the basis of their being a fan, a really good measure of that would be whether or not you're (a) a member of the boards, regardless of post count, and (b) post count as a measure of obsessiveness (and perhaps unemployment/too much free time on your hands). Plus, if you want to populate the audience with the "community of fans" the best place to look is where they've actually created a community that by all accounts has literally cohabited together. Other side of that is no one wants this creepy cult to be the only members of the audience as they hold hands together during I Will Be There When You Die
By the same token, I think there was an expectation, justified or not, that by including your login might help tip the scales in your favor of getting tickets. The reason is that this place is about as close as we've got to an official "fan club". So where as PJ offers special benefits to those who are members, this is the closest we have to the same thing, except its free. I'm not saying it's CC's fault or anyone else for telling us to include that info, because I likely would have done so anyway (even if I could go). And it's Gotham Casting taking care of this to boot - final decision rests with them. But if I had any say, if I had two applications, and one said "my post count is 4,000 on the board" and the other said "I lost my virginity to "look at you"" I'd choose the 4,000 poster.
And of course, as with any band, there's always some resentment when diehard fans feel excluded at the expense of some johnny-come-lately who really like totally OMG loves I'm Amazed or thinks their catalogue started at Z and glowsticks are totally awesome to throw at the band. Just look at the rage when Phish lotteries exclude people who complain "I HAD NO PROBLEM GETTING INTO CLIFFORD BUT NOW ALL THESE N00BS ARE TAKING MY TICKETS!"
Justified or not, it's understandable sentiment.

got ya... I will sometimes look at PT, but I am a PP member myself...
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but judging by the very first post in this thread, the message seemed to indicate that forum fandom would play a part, and I am pretty surprised to see so few from here getting selected. Of course there are large numbers of non-forum megafans out there (I see them at every show) that are just as (if not more) deserving, but still.
Ah, Internet communication breakdown. Look what I started. Another thread johnnYYacked!
The only fans I know, aside from the ones I meet at shows, are the people on this forum who choose to post. Each one I've met has turned out to be someone I would gladly call "friend." I want my friends to go to this taping because I KNOW them and their love of MMJ.
That said, I never would suggest that one's decision to post, lurk, whatever qualifies your dedication to the band or your right to these tix. Augh!
The heads up from CC made it sound as though they were going to draw from forum members first, as this is probably the only MMJ-dedicated site on- or off-line. Apparently, there are other places where folks heard about this or many with inside connections.
Good luck to all humans.

RE: the forum playing a part in spots for the taping ... maybe it didn't. maybe it was clear that they wanted super hardcore fans for the taping (obvi) and CC/theband/whoever knows we are all googly-eyed for MMJ and if anyone is hardcore it's our nerdy* group. maybe someone said to Gotham that forum members would be perfect and that was their contribution to casting selecting us .. and that's where it ended.
* said with love and pride ;)

The heads up from CC made it sound as though they were going to draw from forum members first, as this is probably the only MMJ-dedicated site on- or off-line. Apparently, there are other places where folks heard about this or many with inside connections.
Good luck to all humans.
The message went out to the entire MMJ mailing list so all fans subscribed to that got a chance to reply. The Main reason to give you a heads up on the forum was so you'd know it was coming and could reply right away. Mentioning you're a forum member might have helped but it wasn't a guarantuee. I don't know the exact selection process but i'm sure Gotham Casting is trying to do this as honest as possible. Like they said, more people might get added in the coming days, as people cancel, and more seats are added.
so it's already full?
damn, that sucks.

2nd that
The two or three that have received notification, did they receive notification via email, phone, etc.
Also,
Are they in/around NYC or somewhere else. I'm in Kentucky and unfortunately I doubt I have any chance. But I can hope.

wait, 3 forum members? i thought i only saw 2 - Br00ke & Rats21... who's the 3rd?
i'd like to say that i don't think someone who has thousands of posts should be considered more deserving of tickets than a newbie or lurker. maybe that's because i was a fan of the music long before i checked out the forum and then did just lurk for a while before actually registerring.
forums aren't everyone's cup of tea but that doesn't mean they can't also be a superfan.
just my 2 cents :)
completely agree..i have a ton of posts but most of them are STOOPID as hell and not even MMJ related. my point about only 1 reg poster getting a ticket is that the announcement dropped and people here saw it here before the email went out so were anxiously awaiting (and therefore responded quickly)..in the email it said to respond quickly, therefore i thought they were taking them on first come first serve basis..THAT'S why i commented that i was shocked..there are thousands of awesome diehard fans who don't want to post or be a part of our 'family' here..that's cool, too..
thanks, brooky! i owe you much...i'll have to figure out how to repay you..
DOH! this is all a mess ;D i was typing that post up probably @ the exact same time as willy was doing his. admittedly, my gut reaction was "who the hell got all the tickets? i thought being on the forum would count for something. humf." but then i remembered to back before i joined the crazies, whom i love & feel so lucky to call my friends :-*
my post was intended to show a little support to our newer members. show them that the mmj boards are a place where, for the most part, people are kind & help each other out with all kinds of stuff. i'm not on any other forums but from what i've heard - some can be pretty brutal to noobs just cuz they are a noob. can't say i've ever come across that here.
miss penne brulane - congrats to you too! knowing that you & brooke are both going makes me feel a little bit better. am i jealous? HELL YEAH! but, personally knowing you ladies & your dedication to mmj, i'm very alright with it.

Brooke are you in NYC? Just curious if that was a factor as I remember when PJ did their taping of ST they had only accepted residets from NY, NJ and CT.
this sucks. i was really hoping to get in. i will still go to the venue wherever it is and hope some people don't show up.

perhaps take over a local establishment & call the news folk incessantly until they realize what an amazing story of fandom it is (seriously, there are enough of us) & have our story make the evening news. good exposure for the boys to boot!

yes!
And just putting it out into the universe -- I have the DAY OFF in case there are any last minute cancellations or partners who can't make it. I can be in the city in 30 mins.
But, I feel strangely calm and ok with the fact that I probably won't witness this first hand. I am so happy for those who will be, and happy that it will be documented for those who won't. Have I mentioned that I love this band?
have they given the location yet?

i understand that the people in charge of this event wanna keep the location a secret. however, i would hope that the forum members would want as many true fans at the event as possible; in case there are any cancellations.
being that this is a corporate-y event (comp'd tickets, vh1 interns, etc), i'm praying that some of these fools don't show up, therefore allowing a few diehards waiting outside to take their place.
now while i'm new to the forum, i am not new to Jackets music. and i hope that when the location is revealed to ticketholders tomorrow, that someone has the decency to shoot me an email.
i'm gonna be in NYC thursday w/ a friend.. lemme know if there are any preshow (or aftershow) get-togethers planned.
i look forward to meeting all of you in person.

makes you wonder what it would have been like if they gave an open invitation for anyone who wanted to be at the taping, and waited to pick the venue until after they got a gauge of how many fans wanted to be there.
but since they are doing this taping for so many bands.. i think they kind of had to scale it to the size they could manage (pay for it) at.. sad that VH1 (even though i detest most of the shit they play on that channel these days) doesn't have the funds like a bastard station like FOXnews.

haha trust me interns are not getting tickets to this show... i work for MTVN (been there 8 years or so) and am trying to tickets, someone I work closely with at VH1 is trying to hook me up and has even said these are in high demand, for example I know some Senior Directors who couldnt get tickets.
It's too close to the date for me to make last minute arrangements if they contact me. I'll put all my good energy towards you NYC folks, hoping you get a call! I'll dedicate my yoga practice tonight to you, too. Now I'm just excited for it to air!

Disagree w/ the whole "decency" comment. Sorry. Just don't think it's cool to try to pressure people. Rather, be a class act, which you most likely are in person & just go for the post taping meet up. You'd get to meet some nice folk & get a buzz off of the post show glow :)
We need a full report from anyone who is lucky enough to get the golden ticket to get into Storytellers. And by full report, I mean full setlist, banter, questions by the audience, etc. VH1 is known to cut these performances to shreds to fit them in an hour TV broadcast. For example, the Foo Fighters Storytellers showed only six songs when they played much more than that. If this is to be a history lesson by the band, then we need a dedicated reporter to let us all know the stories behind these cherished songs. Thanks in advance!
Anyone taping this? You think they'll let us plug into the soundboard or put a tree in front of a camera?

i'm sure the boys were all like, "let's do something different tonight; i know! we'll go see that tranny in hiding lady gagsalot!! should be good for a few laughs." haha - i'd rather watch a donkey sex show, a gay donkey sex show then subject myself to her/his "music".

QuoteVH1 taped a My Morning Jacket performance at a television studio on 106th St. in Manhattan for an upcoming episode of Storytellers last night. The band played for an audience of approximately 150 people, including 60 fans chosen from approximately 2,000 email requests for free tickets (fans were asked to submit a series of Storytellers questions and reasons why the band is special to them in the email). The rest of the audience was comprised of the band's management, label representatives, family members and other guests. The show ran for two hours and included Q&A's between most songs. Unlike some classic episodes of Storytellers, the members of MMJ played electric for most of the show, though frontman Jim James played acoustic on a few numbers. The band also previewed a few songs from its forthcoming album—which is due out later this spring—including the recent tour staple "Circuital" as well as "Movin' Away" and "Lullabies, Legends & Lies" ("Movin' Away" was actually played twice due to an era in the recording). Of the new album, the band said it is more "milk than Sprite." The taping featured some more tender moments, too. A teary-eyed James explained that "Dondante" was written about a childhood friend who was a musical prodigy and later took his own life. James told a heartfelt story about a dream he had that he met his friend again in heaven. James revealed that the group's anthem "One Big Holiday" was inspired by the Beasties Boys' "No Sleep till Brooklyn" that reflects the band's early, naive belief touring would be all about "sex, drugs and rock and roll." He also mentioned that the "Golden" line "bars are dark and lonely" was inspired by a conversation James had with his grandma and mentioned that he's been playing music with My Morning Jacket drummer Patrick Hallahan since the 4th grade.
