are we going to do a bracket pool again fellas and wimmins??
Im game for $10 or $20 entry if we get enough people who are interested
I'm in. Would prefer a $10 only because I'm entering in at least 3 others.

the buckeyes having to play 3 games in a row this past weekend is a little ridiculous...
^uconn just played (and won) 5 games in 5 days, now that's crazy shit!

did a lot of teams have to play 3 games in a row? I haven't followed this year but that doesn't seem right. (no excuse, i'm surprised we've made it this far, i thought we would have blown it by now!)
Well, I think all the tourney champs had to play at least 3 in a row.
Ole Miss, of course, didn't play 3 in a row :-\

You're surprised that a preseason consensus Top 4 team with the number one recruit in the country made it this far? ::)
The one thing that is somewhat unfair, though I believe it is the conference's own doing, is scheduling the final on Sunday, just like the SEC, A10 and ACC. One less day of rest is one less day of rest, particularly if you have to play Th and Sat.
When is Thad Motta gonna come out and admit that he knew for 8 months that Diebler was charging $5 a cup at the house parties he was throwing last year?
If anyone wants my money, its theirs. I got the Illini going all the way in all of my brackets

Where do we send the loot?
We could do it 1 of 2 ways. Either everybody just paypals/sends a check to the winner when its over. Or we all send our $ to one person in the pool (I dont want to put somebody in that position, but Crispy seems good with money and calculations so he gets my vote if hes willing :)) and they can just paypal/check the whole amount to the winner. Since we have over 3 weeks until its done to basically allow 1 person to collect the $, the 2nd option probably makes more sense plus itll be much easier for the victor to receive his copious fundage by going that route.
I vote for option 2.
I'm in for $10!!! I watched maybe a total of one college basketball game all year. I have no clue who's number 1 or 2 in the nation. I haven't picked my teams yet. Yes, I'm that person who knows nothing about college basketball but will win the bracket. I'm Patty from accounting.
I just finished my bracket. It took me 1 minute, and I took every number one seed. Hate on me!!! But get ready to pay me!!!!11!!!!!!

I'm pondering whether I should get in on this pool. If I do choose to join, I'm only using Canuck bucks. The good news is, Cdn money is worth more than your Yankee greenback, so if my Sir John A. MacDonald is good, I want in. BTW, I'm no fool: my Orange to the Elite 8, but they easily could go out in the "2nd round". I'm cheering for Texas (two of their best players are from Toronto), Syracuse (my fav team since 1980 - and a fav of most of the residents from my hometown of Kingston, Ontario, which is less than 2 hrs away) and Gonzaga (two key starters are Canucks, plus I've always kinda liked the Zags).
Come on in, Jaimoe.

;D Rome's takes on these things are always great. I was cracking up a couple weeks ago when he was ripping on jousting becoming a big sport.
Nah, Im not hardcore like bracket guy, though I have watched more college bball this year than I have in quite awhile, so Im pretty pumped for the tourney to start tomorrow. This tourney seems so wide open, anything can happen. Shame on you for taking all 1 seeds. If you win, Im mailing you $15 in quarters!!

Even more shocking is that she didn't pick OSU! Hedging her bets, I guess. Anywho, looks like she entered a score showing UConn winning, so if that happens and she's in it, we'll count it manually.
Even if Louisville pulls this one out, I don't like this team's chances in the next round etc...

At least in the Toronto area, we don't get TBS, TNT or Tru (some of our national channels pick up some TNT, TBS programs and sporting events). We do get several CBS channels and TSN/TSN 2 are carrying all the games too, mirroring the programming on all the US channels. We miss almost nothing, but teams involving players from Canada get more of a push such as Texas, Gonzaga and Syracuse.
I believe your discovery of intenet porn in '97 also coincided with several viruses infesting your computer hard drive.

very surprised that both purdue and ND lost to VCU and FSU (the latter to a lesser degree), but I cant believe both were just beatdown by them. Kansas has to be the 1st team that would make the Final 4 by not having to beat a team seeded higher than a 9, right?
Thanks to that, Im looking good in my other pool, this 1, it looks like Im effectively done because of how similar the picks are ahead of mine that also have OSU.
Another stinker of a tourney from Pitt as well!
Paid.
Well, after a horrific first round, the second round treated me a lot better. I don't think I'll be able to take the top spot from Hawkeye or Ruckus if OSU wins, tho.

I am ready for these games to begin! Go Richmond!

Loved Zona going into the tourney, but hated they had to play Texas in just the 2nd round (even though I did pick Zona to win in the bracket)...Theyre going to be a tough out. UCONN goes as Kemba will, and he hasnt played a bad game in almost a month, but I think Zona's size will give them a lot of trouble. D-Will is a beast and should be a Top 3 pick in the NBA draft if he leaves, along with Kemba in that top 3.
Im sure it was scheduled a long time ago, but it kind of sucks all the juicy matchups were last night. tOSU vs KY is the only game that intrigues me tonight.
This one got me jumpin' up off the couch and yellin' loud enough to wake up our sleeping baby last night.

OSU and Duke losing really efff'ed folks up, march madness is cray-zee!!
My roommate and I filled out brackets on espn.com. Going in to yesterday's games, I was doing terrible but my roommate was ranked #172 out of the 6 million or so that entered brackets on espn. He was in the 100.0 %ile. He had Zona winning it all. Neither of us know much about bball.
damn...did not expect the Jayhawks to go down to Kansas.
The winner of my other pool now will depend on if UNC wins today...If UNC loses, the winner wont have any teams in the final 4...Ridiculous

I've heard that, too, but VCU beat Georgetown, Purdue, Florida State and Kansas; so, at what point do they get credit for being good rather then their opponent playing poorly?

Hey, I was just making a dumb joke. Did somebody at Kansas actually say that about themselves? I'm not paying attention anymore since I have no hope of winning the pool. ;)
Saw a thread on ESPN that 10 people nationwide have both VCU and Butler in their Final 4. :o
I can see one....gotta figure students and allums are homers, but both? Wow!
Saw one person has UConn,VCU,Butler and Kentucky. Pretty damn impressive.

I was in one other bracket and I got last place in it. Of course, both of my brackets were pretty similar. I have become completely uninterested in basketball over the last several years. It started with NBA and then trickled to college hoops. I hate it because I know there are some really great games in the tournament, I've just gotten to where I just don't care about them. So there, I didn't want to win this stupid bracket anyway. ::)

Two things I learned: STOP going with the Orange past the first few rounds and NEVER start making your picks 10 minutes before the deadline.
congrats hawkeye

It's that time again. Who's setting it up?
I'm down. Ill set it up as long as I don't have to mess with money. Can we keep it free?
I'm in for sure. I didn't participate in the past, will it be the same rules as I can find earlier in the thread?
And by rules I would mean: cost? Limit on howard we can enter?
I'm in!
Im fine with free or pay. Did we do money last time?
I'm down to do 5$ or 10$ per bracket. of course i'll still be in if its free.

Hey, long time no see all! It doesnt look like any bracket was set up yet, so I just reopened the group/bracket from last year. I think if you were it in last year youll get an email about it, but if not and for anyone new, its
My Morning Bracket (on yahoo's tourney pick'em)
Group ID: 96200
Password: bosco
Its set as only 1 bracket per person as of now, but I can change that if most agree to do so.
Thanks for setting this up. I'm in. Went through and made my picks quickly, but will probably change things up in a day or two--have all four #1s advancing, which I know is unlikely but on the first run-thru I don't see many roadblocks for any of the four.
Also, if CBS isn't trying to put together a highlights montage set to "Victory Dance", especially for UK's first round game in Louisville, then college basketball is just not quite as awesome as it could be.
thanks Scotty
I'm in.
And, Big East Campions Saturday night, UK loses the SEC championship Sunday. It was a good weekend inLouisville
i'm totally in and finished up my bracket while slacking off at work
Id like to do it for some small change if a few others also would to make it a little more interesting.
For those who dont want to pay, no biggie, we can just do 1st, 2nd, and maybe 3rd (depending on how many want to do it for $$) based on just those who say - prior to the start of the tourney - theyre in for money. ie, if the 3rd best bracket overall is the highest for those in for $$, they get 1st place.

Paying $10 to be reminded that I don't know as much about college hoops as I thought?
Sounds good.
Alright, lets do it for $10 per bracket. I'll open it up for 2 brackets per person in case anyone wants to do that and bump up the total payout. Just to clarify, you would have the option to fill out 2 separate brackets, you dont need to though. That would just give you a better chance to win something (hopefully). I'll update this post for the list of who is in for $. If I miss anyone or 1 of the people who said theyre in either way just want to do it for fun and not $, let me know
Crispy - you want to collect again? Otherwise, Im willing to do it.

I dont think its as big of a deal as the media is going to make of it. They beat Cincy and WVU earlier in the year when Melo was ineligible. They beat GTown, Marquette, and Florida (who IMO is much better than a 7 seed, more like a 5) and Melo didnt lead the team in rebounds or blocks in any of those games. Their loss to ND when Melo was out was more due to Jardine/Triche/Fair combining for 3-14 shooting and 14pts than Fab not playing.

Crispy where are ya?
Im workin til 10 tonight. If Crispy still hasnt said anything I'll post my paypal then.
Either way, lets say try to pay by noon tomorrow but you have to pay by friday night.
FYI, here's the scoring method we're apparently using for this bracket.
Scoring Settings
Round Correct Pick Upset Pick Bonus
Round of 64 4 points 3
Round of 32 6 points 6
Reg. Semis 8 points 6
Reg. Finals 12 points 3
Semifinals 12 points 3
Championship 16 points 3
Maximum Possible 376 points --
This group uses a custom scoring system, as described above. For comparison, the default Yahoo! scoring, used for the Overall Leaderboard, is 1-2-4-8-16-32.
This group also uses an Underdog bonus. For any correct picks where the underdog wins, you will receive a set number of bonus points, equal to the seed bonus values above.
I'll do 2 brackets for $20,
Since Crispy hasnt said yay or nay, I posted a message in the bracket group on yahoo that says what my paypal is (easier than sending 10+ PMs). Please select the payment as "GIFT" so there isnt a fee for other of us to send/accept payment.
Payment by the start of games (noon tomorrow) would be appreciated, payment must be sent by 8pm friday to still be eligible for the pot.
Im waiting to see how many people actually end up paying, but I figure something like 75% of pot to the winner, 20% to 2nd place, 5% or money back for 3rd place.

Same scoring as last year.
I think the yahoo default is dumb personally. You pretty much have to pick the champion to win a pool that way. This scoring rewards picking upsets correctly while also just picking the games right from start to finish.

Money received from Jon T, g33ta, trish, ruckus, walterfredo
Not surprised by all the KY picks to win it all. Glad I went with Mizzou in a bracket and am the only one with them winning it all. Theyve been my favorite team to watch the whole year, certainly rooting for them the most. I think Clark being the only 1 with MSU and Kyle the only one with UNC are nice advantages as well.
Surprised how far a lot of people have Louisville going..Is that a Jacket thing?!
Louisville played well today... In my other bracket (which is going to be perfect after gonzag and VCu play) I have louisville losing next round. Too bad this is for more money!
these Baylor uniforms are killing me.
UCONN, west Virginia god dammit. That's what I get for puttin all my faith in the big east

Based on what Im seeing, your bracket is complete and you have KY over KAN in the finals.
Outside of you who said you will pay tomorrow, I believe everyone who said they were in for the scrilla sent me money except for Hawkeye
I was working yesterday during the Mizzou and Duke games....Ugh! Feel like I missed the best day of the tourney...Still cant believe Mizzou lost like that. I knew their D was the weakness, but Norfick shot over 50% from 3...unreal

Actually, apart from my bracket, I'm enjoying the hell out of this tournament.

Louisville Vs. Kentucky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got the left side of my bracket perfect!!!
But then again, I ALWAYS pick Kentucky and Louisville to go all the way!!!
I Love Them Both!!!
However, somebody HAS to win, and I am going with UK!!!
Louisville v KY final four match up. This city is going to burn to the ground next weekend. Holy shit. I didnt want to play UK, cause they're by a long shot the best team in league, but damn it's gonna be awesome. On a good day, UK could probably mop some shitty NBA team, but luckily U of Ls desire to win this game above all will keep em in the game.
There is going to be chaos in Louisville and Lexington no matter the outcome. Like Jim said at the MMJ show in Lexington last year "win or lose, people will fucking riot"
If Louisville beats KY, I'll be ecstatic and not care about money. If KY and Kansas both win, I think I'll win the cash. If Ohio State and KY both win, I'll just be pissed.
I'll just be pissed it Ohio State wins... 8)
One thing to remember is even though I'm in the lead, I didn't pot in for the money.

Boo!
Life has been crazy and I didn't get a chance to pay by the deadline...just paid now to stay kosher, altho I've got 0 shot at winning.
Let's just say we've been travelling/busy...
Still rooting for Kentucky! Looks like Illinois is most likely stealing Groce from Ohio. Tough loss for them. I just started following them casually a few years ago but I like him.
i have never had such a shit'tastic bracket ;D but yes, it's been a fun tourney and i'm stoked for saturday night
if any of you all travelled to a sports bar in the state of KY right now you'd feel sorry for the stupidity going on. it's embarrassing how people are acting over this game. 2 dudes got in a fist fight in a dialysis lab over who's team is cooler. people don't talk basketball around here, they just call the opposing teams fans faggots or red necks and move on. at this point, i'll be happy when it's over.
Wasn't sure where to put this one, but I didn't think starting an NIT thread would be worth it. ;D Too late for that. ;D
Ray Lewis is an all-time great, on so many levels. ;D Here he is pumping up the Cardinal...I think this was for the semi-final game.

It's about to get bloody and brutal in Louisville
DAMN that was a good game. Proud of the Cards for playing so well against an NBA team. A Kansas win right now gives me the overall win for the pool, an Ohio State win gives it to Crispy.
Jay Hawks baby!!!
Has anyone noticed the frequency "Seven Nation Army" has been played by the bands this year?

You are so very right! Louisville played another great game! They tied it up in the middle of the second half 49 to 49 (just like they did during the Dec. 31, 2011 game 40 to 40). Killer try at an amazing come-back! I love both teams. I was wearing my Blue Grass Braggin' Rights "It's Geaux Time" ... Battle for the Bluegrass T-Shirt that featured both teams, was wearing game-day stickers of both teams on my face, and was drinking out of my Cardinals cup I saved from when I saw their 3 home games of the 2006 NIT at Freedom Hall. However, I am still very excited for Kentucky! I went there right out of high school for the 1985-86 school year and am from western Kentucky (finally graduated from WKU in Bowling Green). Where I used to live, UK is ALWAYS on TV. So... UK All The Way!!! If we can get our 8th championship, we will only have to win 4 more to pass UCLA. Go Cats!
So, if Calipari wins his first NC tonight, does he take the money the Knicks will throw at him and run?
I sure wouldn't leave the good thing he's got going at UK. I mean, all he does is bring in the best freshmen class every year and ride them for one year to a run at a NC until they bolt for the NBA and wait for the next class of one and dones to come in and compete for a NC. Why would you want to leave that for the circus that is the Knicks?

He has an ego the size of an ocean
I predict he'll leave either way. If history repeats itself he'll leave right before the NCAA busts the program and whatever UK does tonight will be vacated.
He already has 42 vacated wins from two other universities. Pretty soon you'll hear Anthony Davis' name in the same breath as Derrick Rose and Marcus Camby.
I would be stoked if Calipari left UK, because the realist in me knows its gonna be hard for UL ever to triumph over UK with his recruiting tactics (whatever they may be).
That being said, Anthony Davis is another story. I cant wait for him to go pro so I can support him in a jersey other than his UK one. I mean, the kid is fucking amazing. He deserves everything basketball throws his way, even if his coach is unethical. I don't know why I'm a UL fan, cause I like UKs players and hate ULs players.
Other than this man
Gorgui Dieng the Lion King (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iweARoCtGXo#ws)
god, that shot around 1:15, the most exciting emotional rollercoaster of my life. Louisville as a city collectively went "NOOOOOO-YYYESSSSSSSSSSS"
though I find this video somewhat distasteful, i also find it inspiring cause Gorgui is THE MAN.

I actually won both my brackets, I guess choosing the final game perfectly is enough to save you from shitty first round picks. I was garunteed to win my other one, because literally all of them had UL going all the way ;D
Alright, so 12 brackets were paid for (I think its funny how the 2 that didnt both would have finished in the money). So it looks like it will be
E-wind: $80 (well, 78.82 because for some reason Hawkeye and Trish's payments both were charged a 59 cent fee and I only got 9.41)
Jon T.: $30
Myself: $10
That basically goes with the breakdown I posted awhile ago, let me know if that works for you 2 and I'll send you cash

I forgot about this, but haven't gotten anything yet, either. Maybe Capn's been busy. You should get an email to the account you have registered with PP when you receive money.
Cool, just making sure there would be some kind of notification. Thanks
Sorry about the delay, just sent you 2 the loot!
I have no idea why, but I was able to send EWind the whole amount (78.82) as a personal payment owed without any fee from paypal as expected. No matter what personal option I chose to send the money to Jon T. (payment owed, gift, living expenses, other, cash advance) it charged a $1.17 fee. I guess its the same thing as why Hawkeye and Trish had a fee before, maybe its your guys bank or something, idk, but I couldnt figure out how to send the money and get around it.

There is always a fee if your PayPal is linked to your debit card and not directly to your checking account. That might be it.

Worse bracket I've ever had
You had to like MSU chances though. I went with them in my other pool where there was 41 entries knowing if I picked Kentucky, chances were slim to win it all because everyone else was picking them. The top 19 brackets all ended up having KY, and 2nd and 3rd place lost by essentially picking a 2nd round game wrong. Only 3 other brackets picked MSU, so I had a great shot to win had they even made it to the final 4 since I picked the rest of the final four right. If I had the same bracket and picked KY to win it all, I still wouldve only finished 6th. Picking KY was a crapshoot this year because everyone was doing it.
I swear though, every year I pick MSU (and Wisconsin) to go far, they screw me. When I pick them to lose early, they go to like the Elite 8 or further.

I guess it was a dream, but even now it all seems so vivid to me. Clearly yet I see
the beckoning hand of the oracle as he stood at the summit of the staircase...'
'...I see still the incredible beauty of the sculptured cities and the pure spirit of man
revealed in the lives and works of this world. I was overwhelmed by both wonder and
understanding as I saw a completely different way to life, a way that had been crushed
by the Federation long ago. I saw now how meaningless life had become with the loss of
all these things...'
I wandered home through the silent streets
And fell into a fitful sleep
Escape to realms beyond the night
Dream can't you show me the light?
I stand atop a spiral stair
An oracle confronts me there
He leads me on light years away
Through astral nights, galactic days
I see the works of gifted hands
That grace this strange and wondrous land
I see the hand of man arise
With hungry mind and open eyes
They left the planet long ago
The elder race still learn and grow
Their power grows with purpose strong
To claim the home where they belong
Home to tear the Temples down...
Home to change!
Exactly! Now if only I can get Peart to respond to my emails before Thursday...
Plus, I need to see what the 1 vs. 16 matchups are going to be so I can pick the first ever 16 seed upset!

I won either this one last year or the one at my work, also knowing very little. It mightve been my work bracket because theyre all UL fans I picked KY to be Kansas in the final.
I guess I overthought most people picking Louisville to win it all...I think they got picked like 55% nationally to win it all, but only 3 of the 16 picked them, and like half went with Indiana...Damnit!!
I went with Indiana at the one at my job this year because I know most of those people are gonna pick UL. I think I picked UL on this one.

Yeah, you were 1 of the 3. And you did win this one last year. :cheesy:
I really like Louisville, Indiana, Kansas, and Miami. I think theyre the 4 best teams, problem is 3 are on 1 side of the bracket. I think the Cards are the only team capable of winning 6 games in a row in the Midwest or West, although Im sure Ill be proved wrong. I hedged my bets by having Louisville in the championship in both brackets but losing. No clue on the mathematical chances ( paging mahg33ta) but I think if enough of my other late picks are right I have a chance of winning the pool even if Louisville wins it all.
Im surprised me and Clarkwork were the only 2 who opted for 2 brackets. In such a wide open year, figured more would. Then again I know at least you and my non forum friends who joined in on this pool are in others as well.

That seems good to me! Usually after today or tomorrow I don't even check the standings anymore, but you never know. If Gonzaga and Georgetown make the finals with Gonzaga winning I got this thing in the bag!

I know, it hurt, but I know too much about my team and how they've been playing (shitty), and that Oregon as a 12 seed is ridiculous. Add in the travel comparison and Oregon's crowd advantage, and it was a pretty easy call. I should have gotten Davidson too, but they blew it!

Yeah. I'd imagine the Crimson screwed up a hell of a lot of brackets nationwide. Thankfully I only had NM winning one more game so Harvard upsetting them shouldn't hurt too bad. Now if they go on to win two more, I'm screwed!

Nah, even though I had the winner of this winning another game, I was flip flopping this pick more than any other. I just ended up going with Wisconsin because of how good I thought the Biig 10 was, and figured already taking two 12's over 5's was pushing it as it was.

Saw Wisky losing early coming. Had Ole Miss in 1 bracket, Wisky only winning 1 game in the other. Now if K-State cant pull off a comeback vs LaSalle, it doesnt really matter anyway.
I like that all this makes it look like a Zags Final 4 run is easier though.
Oh man, what a comeback for K-State to comeback after being down 18 at the half and take the lead, only to have it all thrown away by terrible coaching. K-State got across halfcourt with 8 seconds to go and had a TO left. They didnt use it, McGruder never even touched the ball, and the only shot they got off is from behind the backboard. Ugh, I got Bruce Weber'd again.

A long way yet to go my friend. I'm no where near celebrating anything except picking a couple of upsets right. I watched LaSalle play a few times this year, and just liked their energy, and toughness. After watching the way they played in the First Four game, I thought they could pull this off. Also figured it was a real good spot to pick an upset, and possibly make a move in my brackets. Get lucky with the win, and maybe have others lose a team they thought could go far.
That ESPN perfect bracket is nuts. Crazy Final Four, and other than an alum, I don't know how anyone could've picked Harvard. Soild team, but not their best recently,IMO, and a huge upset. Even bigger than LaSalle over K St. That's the beauty of this tournament every year, and glad to see some of the chalks going down.

Also, check out the one person on Yahoo who still has a perfect bracket (http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/t1/2323798). If they get that final four, the world is going to implode.
Amazing, hard to believe anyone can get that many right
Well, it couldn't last...jeez, BREANNA, you couldn't see that Georgetown was ripe for an upset at the hands of a 14 seed?
:shocked:Dammmmmmmmmmmit
Two years in a row a 15 beats a 2! it's great for the game, but kicks the shit out of having fun with a bracket challenge. If it weren't for being in a couple of them, I'd be pulling for every underdog.
Yeah, and what's up with Breanna not seeing this Georgetown upset coming? Hell, she had Harvard right.
Looks like we're going head to head on a couple of games in the South tonight Crispy. I've got the favorites, and you can rack up some bonus. Should be fun. Isn't picking OU some kind of offense in Stillwater?

That's why I don't do brackets. There was not one fiber in my being pulling for G'town and I would have picked them in the bracket.
Having said that , go Hilltoppers!

Sweet, I have a big chance to catch up! I have a feeling my remaining final four picks are going to wreck it for me though, they're all #1s.
You caught it, not only did I pick against my own school, I went with the dirtburglars! I'm in trouble if anybody in my office pool (which I am leading) notices that. I won it last year, mostly thanks to picking that last 15 seed upset...which I can't even remember who it was.
When it comes to upsets and my own picks, I still love seeing the big ones, unless it's against a team I have winning more than two games, and even then it's still cool.
Speaking of upsets and pessimism, I have always hoped OSU never gets a 1 seed during those years when we do well, because with our luck, we would be sure to be the first ever to lose to a 16 seed! Yeah, go Hilltoppers!
Florida fucking Gulf Coast. I had Kansas in the Final 4 in both my brackets, only change to either I made yesterday morning was GTown in the Final 4 in one. OOF.
That said, Kansas is only tied to the Hilltoppers late in the 1st half :undecided:
I thought Michigan was a bad matchup for VCU because they dont turn the ball over much, but whoa, didnt see that blowout coming.
You have got to be shitting me Crispy with that #12 Oregon pick to the Sweet Sixteen! it's like....I'll see your damn Explorers, do you one better, and raise you a Duck! Helluva nice pick.
So far, I have gotten the 3 5 seed upsets right and Oregon going to the sweet 16! Super happy with where my bracket is going this year.

Woo, Ducks! (even though they beat my team) But GAAAHHH, fucking Marquette! First they sneak by Davidson, now Butler! I had Butler going to the round of 8 in my office pool, and meant to pick them in ours but forgot, so no matter, but I had the lead for a few minutes!
Now come on Shockers! :cheesy:
Witchita mofo State
Yeah I think my bracket is destroyed but I don't give a shit if my cards can keep doin what they're doin.
Everyone's going to say how the Zags proved the point they didnt deserve a 1 seed, but after watching Wichita St for 2 entire games, they look like the real deal to me. Zags losing Gary Bell was huge IMO, Stockton Jr is worthless and only played basically the whole 2nd half for that reason.
West has been brutal so far. If OSU wins, that Zona-OSU game I think will be good, and winner gets to the Final 4. I'll be damned if Im not rooting for the Shockers at this point though \\_/_
Isn't the whole point of having the tournament at different locations to have a neutral court for each team? How does Louisville and Butler get to play in Lexington? California in San Jose, Michigan and Michigan State in Auburn Hills, Kansas and Kansas St. in Kansas City, Georgetown in Philadelphia, etc?? Some aren't exactly "home court" but its not far from it.

Next weekend will be more of a neutral site deal. A few years ago the NCAA decided it would be best to keep teams closer to home where possible for the early rounds both to keep travel costs down, and play to more filled arenas. I couldn't cars less about their travel, but gotta admit I like seeing the arenas pretty packed, and loud for the most part.
Plus I think those highly seeded teams earned the right to play closer to home the 1st couple rounds to give them an added advantage of getting to the Sweet 16. Once there, its up to them to advance, and no team is really playing all that close to home at that point.
Meh, I semi agree, but the top seeds are already rewarded by getting to play the "weakest" teams in the opening rounds. Who knows, if Kansas had to play in San Jose, then maybe we would've seen the first 16 over 1 upset in history!

Yeah, like that 5 seed Oklahoma State traveling two time zones west to play 12 seed Oregon in San Jose. It didn't hurt Syracuse much, but they had to travel all the way to San Jose too, while another 4 seed in Michigan plays a home game. I know it's impossible to get it all set totally fairly, but I think the selection committee screwed the pooch in a couple of places this year.
Louisville and Michigan looked the best today.
Not surprised the Zags lost. Everyone seemed to forget pretty soon that #16 SU gave them a run on Thursday.
Butler/Marquette was an amazing game (until the last 30 seconds)
If Ole Miss plays great and Marshall goes off, they get to the Great 8.
Totally not out of the question seeing Florida Gulf Coast going to the Great 8.

Im not going to pull out my GPS, but Im guessing a flight from Stillwater or Eugene to San Jose isnt that different. Also, the cut off is at the 4 seed because those are the teams "expected" to make the S16. True with Syracuse on their early games, but they did get put in the East region so their next game is in DC, the closest it can be.

Stillwater to San Jose- 1370
Eugene to San Jose- 465
I'm not going to pull out my calculator, but that's like 7x further...
You need to look at a map, cap'n. True enough about the pods, but a 12 seed shouldn't be that much closer to home than the 5 it plays. Oregon has plenty of alumni in the Bay Area, and outnumbered OSU fans about three to one at the game. Yeah, sour grapes.
Well, like Kramer says in the masturbation episode....I'M OUT!!!

Fun with numbers!
Travel Distances for #1Kansas- 30 miles
Louisville-70
Indiana- 130
Gonzaga- 550
#2Ohio State- 60
Georgetown- 120
Duke- 330
Miami- 1,100
#3Michigan State- 70
Marquette- 390
New Mexico- 480
Florida- 920
#4Michigan- 30
Kansas State- 100
Saint Louis- 1,700
Syracuse- 2,410
#5Wisconsin- 375
UNLV- 390
VCU- 450
Oklahoma State- 1,370
#6Butler- 140
Arizona- 590
Memphis- 630
UCLA- 1,220
Fun Facts!
The #4 seed had the longest travel average of the top 6 seeds at 1,060 miles.
I had a hunch the NCAA is in the bag to help the Big 10 (so they will maybe become relevant again in something) and these numbers back that up. Look closely at the travel distances for the Big 10 teams; you'll find an average distance of 134 miles; the Big East average is 750 and the Big 12 is 500. In fact, the travel distance for the top 4 seeds in the Big 10 is a
total of 290 miles! Check out how far Miami, Florida and Syracuse had to go!
Nice work Tracy.
I agree with you on the NCAA and Big 10. If you take your work a step further, and drop #5 Wisconsin, the average distance their top 4 had to travel is 72.5 miles! Hell, I can drive that in an hour easy.

I didn't see Temple all year, so didn't know about Wyatt. I also never saw a team's star just stop playing. During some of the late game sets, he just simply quit moving. Granted, Oladipo was playing great D, but there were a couple of no calls and Wyatt just sat there and pouted and stopped and watched. Bizarre. Plus, their #2 scorer Randall was 0-18 from the floor.
Damn, Tracy, You're a fellow geographer! I use travel distance as a component in the spreadsheet I use to predict tournament results, which of course is very hit and miss, but pretty interesting, I think (it's serving me pretty well so far this year). I also make some maps with the data showing where everybody goes along with the predictions. Your stats are great, I'm going to start compiling those in my spreadsheet too.

Man, Im all aboard the Florida Dunk Coast bandwagon. So fun to watch. Hopefully they can hold on for the win vs SDSU. A S16 matchup vs Florida would be awesome.

Yeah, Wyatt seemed to half ass it down the stretch, and that was part of why he wasnt getting high percentage shots - or at least as good of looks as many of the ones in the 1st half. The Randall thing is weird, I think I saw someone say his worst game prior to this he went 3-10, which wouldve been enough for Temple to get the win. Temple also missed a handful of uncontested layups in the 2nd half it seemed.
Gotta give credit to Indiana though. They probably expected a comfortable win. Hulls brought them back down the stretch, Oladipo hits a huge 3, and Watford seals the win plus a great block on D.

I don't think they get by Michigan. So far L'Ville, and Michigan have looked like the best two teams in the tourney,IMO.
I am with you on FGC though. Fun to watch, and love to see them get another win tonight.

Miami I take it? Illini played good, especially on the offensive boards. Who knows exactly, but that terrible OOB call that went Miami's way when Kadji clearly knocked it out may have cost Illini the game. I looked at mock drafts, and Im surprised Brandon Paul isnt considered a 2nd round NBA pick. Every time I watch him, he impresses me and looks like arguably the best player on the court.

Some seriously great S16 matchups this year. Those obviously have all the tradition and high seeds, but I cant wait for Florida Dunk Coast vs Florida, Wichita St vs LaSalle, or Ohio St vs Zona either. Really Louisville-Oregon is the only game that Im not really interested in. Wichita has beat 2 really solid teams, and Zona has tons of talent that might finally be coming together and give OSU a run for their money.
I havent seen much of Duke this year, but if Appling is healthy, I think Sparty has a great shot to win that game. Derrick Nix will make Plumlee his bitch. I think Payne will be a huge x-factor for MSU in that matchup.
As far as the pool goes ericm, current leader -
My backup bracket is jacked, but I still like the one where I picked more based on how I felt about the teams as opposed to hedging my picks on my main bracket. My Elite 8 besides the Zags can all still happen.
If Michigan wins, Im toast and your bracket is looking quite good albeit dependent on Miami vs Indiana winner. If Kansas wins Im liking my chances. Michigan looked great against VCU, but that was the worst possible matchup for VCU since UM doesnt turn the ballover much at all, Burke best assist/TO ratio in the country, HAVOC pressure was ineffective. McGary wont look like an all-american going against Withey inside. I thought UNC was arguably the most underseeded team in the tourney, IMO deserving of a 6 if not 5 seed, and Kansas embarrassed them in the 2nd half. They also got this win with their leading scorer and projected #1 overall pick Ben McLemore scoring 2pts and getting benched much of the 2nd half. Kansas opened up as -2 favorites vs Michigan, Michigan has looked very good of late, but if I had to pick again Id still stick with Kansas.
Glad to see that I'm not the only one whos West region is completely fucked. I did my brackets differently here and at work, and at work I'm in second to last place, but my "Best Possible" is higher than anyone elses. The person in first has the worst best possible. Feeling good abou that

Yeah I can't imagine there are many people who's West bracket isn't messed up. We had almost the same picks there, and even though there's a bunch of red strikes through it, we both still have our Final Four pick alive in the West.

I believe they went on a 22-8 run to close out regulation! What a finish. I thought they were dead, but Burke was unreal. He hit a few threes that were not only long ones, but super clutch as well.
It ain't over just yet though. If the Gators make the Final Four, I'm in good shape, but need Duke to lose, and hopefully that's to L'Ville. I think L'Ville making the Final Four will clinch it, but not entirely sure. I haven't looked at the other brackets too closely, just at who everyone picked to win it all. I think one person has Duke going all the way, so that could be trouble.
Looks like this thing could end in a tie! It certainly has a chance to depending on how tomorrow goes.

Hey Eric!!! Same problem here....once I logged into my Yahoo account, it asked for a verification phone number. A code was sent to that number, and I had to use it to get into the bracket. walter, I think the deal there is that you can use the same bracket in multiple pools without having to edit them all if you needed to. There's a button for adding another bracket (looks like you can have two in a pool), or you can leave the pool and join it again, picking "Create a New Bracket" in the bracket list when you do.

Also, we dont have many people in it, so feel free to give the bracket id and password to friends if you know anyone who would want to join (and will pay :cheesy: )
I'm in! Good luck guys and gals!
Y'all are in serious trouble -- my spreadsheet-based bracket picking system predicted three of the four play-in games correctly! Good luck to you suckers, I'll be collecting my winnings soon after the Wofford Terriers win the championship.
Good luck everybody!
Good luck everyone.
I tried everything I could think of to clear up the registering problems but nothing worked. There's some type of Yahoo glitch on my end that I can't clear up, so I'm out this year.

It sucks!! I was looking forward to defending and giving you guys a chance to win some of your money back. I thought about sending Scotty my pics, and the $$ and seeing if he would fill out a bracket or two for me, but it wouldn't be as much fun if I couldn't follow along and see who everyone else picked, and how they were doing. Good luck to you Trish, and keep the title in NJ!
On a side note, I'm 2 for 2 so far in the groups I could enter, and had Dayton with a nice upset. Sorry Penny, but had to pick against your Buckeyes.
Can someone post the scoring system for the pool? Points per win per rd, bonus PT's, etc. I totally forgot how we did it last year, except for the bonus PT's for an upset. I'd like to see how I would've done.
Pool Scoring
Round Correct Pick Upset Pick Bonus
Round of 64 4 pts 3
Round of 32 6 pts 3
Round of 16 8 pts 3
Round of 8 12 pts 3
Round of 4 12 pts 3
National Final 16 pts 3
Maximum Possible 376 points --
Not sure why I've even looking at this anymore, since Wofford's out.

Thanks. looking to rack up big bonus with that Wofford pick? One of the pools I entered also offered bonus on upsets, so I really went out on a limb by picking all the 9's to beat the 8's. picked a couple of other lower seeds too, but only hit on one so far with Dayton.
Looking forward to you guys keep this thread updated.

That Duke-Mercer game was insane!
Insanely frustrating for the millions who picked Duke. Madness alright!

I heard on the radio that the ESPN bracket challenge had 11 million entrants and after Duke's loss there are only three thousand or so still perfect. Madness indeed!!
I watched Mercer play this year, and knew they were the real deal, yet still picked Duke. Mercer will be in the sweet 16 for sure.
Too quiet in here! How'd everybody do? If anybody had both Mercer, and SFA the next drink is on me.
Well, for me, as per usual, like Kramer in the masturbation contest....I'm OUT!!!
OH good lord do I SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, that was me! Except I did it in my office pool, not this one. I also picked Harvard, and NDSU to beat the Dirtburglars! Sadly though, I had also picked Mercer to beat Michigan tonight.

Well how could you not have Dayton too? I still have four teams alive ( Florida, Mich.St, Arizona, and Michigan, with Fla winning it all in one, and Zona in the other) so not out of my pool yet, but nowhere near as many points as last year. Who's winning the Jacket pool?

I rely on my stupid spreadsheet rating system to make my picks for me, and it didn't think Dayton had a chance. It did well in the first round, but after last night, the whole thing fell apart.
Surprise, surprise, Scotty's two brackets are leading, and if I read the scoring system right, it looks like he's got it locked up. Which reminds me that I need to give him my damn money.
Hi Kids! Where is Scotty? Are we gonna do this thing? Or is everyone too frenzied with the ticket sales? I'm ready for another epic failure bracket!
Count me in if this happens please.
the only time all year I gamble, if you can call it that. I'm in.
I'm in :).
Who normally sets this up?
And more importantly for us newer folks,
How does it work?
Scotty usually set up the challenge. I believe he did it through Yahoo, and then gave out the invite to the group. I think it was $10 per bracket.
Definitely a lot of fun, and I'm in if he sets it up again.
I just sent Scotty an email, linking him back to this thread. Here's hoping he sets it up for us again!
