Title: Shame
Post by: wolof7 on Apr 15, 2011, 09:08 AM
I am resitent to write this admission considering I am completely bummed out about this...The first MMJ concert I saw was in the basement of Pearl Street in Northampton MA on Jan. 26 2004. I had just recieved It Still Moves for Christmas from my brother who I begged to grab it for me after seeing them perform on Conan. My roommate at the time and I were the first ones in the club we were camped in the front of the stage. Dr. Dog opened, a band I had never heard of before and they blew us away, we got to hang with them a little after the show. Needless to say the Jacket show was transformative for me. The stage was maybe a 1/2 ft off the floor and we were right there front and center. JJ still had long hair at the time, I was rocking out so hard he came up to me and played practically against my chest whilst headbanging. His hair engulfing and whipping my face (during Run thru, OBH and Steam Engine). It was crazyness. I can't remember many other minute details from the show other than some drunk guy screaming for Tyrone which the band decided not to play. I think it was Bo and Carl's like 5th show with the band and neither missed a note, it was seemless. After the show I went and greabbed the setlist from Patricks drumkit.

I have since been unable to find this setlist after searching through all of my stuff for 2 yrs. I went through everything again last night and alas no luck. On the archive page the setlist for this show is missing. Losing it is something I regret until this day. Hopefully it will turn up, I know for a fact that I never would have given that up or thrown it away.

wow that sounds like a great show. Im sorry to hear you can't find the set list you got. I went to a show in 2004. Dr Dog opened and they rocked too. I was right in front of Jim and he was out of control. I got his set list. There is still drops of his sweat since it was so hot in the venue. I got it framed with one of the promo posters from It Still Moves and my ticket stub.

2004 was a great MMJ year IMO. All of the shows I saw that year were awesome. MY 2 favorites being Irving Plaza where it was MMJ, Dr Dog and M Ward 2 nights in a row.  I hope you find your missing set list. I have only been luck to grab one set list and it was from one of the Boston Pop shows.

That is amazing, those Pops shows were truly special, I believe I made night 2!

I loved those Pops shows. I drove up and back to Boston from NYC for both shows in a car with no stereo and no AC. It was pretty rough.

...in the basement of Pearl Street in Northampton MA...
are you local?  I'm in Southampton.  I've seen a lot of shows at Pearl Street and other venues in Northampton (missed out on that MMJ show though).  I'm hoping that they play Mountain Park again this fall - what a great show that was!

I'm from RI but have spent plenty of time in the Northampton, Springfield areas. The Mountain Park show was great
