According to Rolling Stone the boys are tapped as a headliner

I remember someone thinking the KahBang Fest in Bangor, ME would eliminate Lolla's chances, but they'll be a week apart.  Sweet!  I might make this.  My wife's folks live in Plainfield (next to Joliet) and we might make a visit up there to time it with this.  I'm liking some of the other acts, as well.  Here's an email I got from Lollapalooza:

So any Lolla vets have insight on when we'll see a schedule?  What's the deal on day passes?  I'd love to see MMJ, Foo Fighters, The Cars, maybe Bright Eyes, Grace P., etc.  What are the chances that MMJ and FF will be on the same day?

My Guess would be MMJ late sunday afternoon with the Foo closing.  When MMJ & PJ played a couple years ago thats how it was.

EDIT:   The more I look at that line-up I have know idea how they are gonna schedule.  I prefer a saturday nite over a sunday nite.

I was wondering if the boys would be headlining/closing the smaller main stage opposite either Coldplay or Eminem.

Generally single tickets will go on sale later in summer after they have sold as many 3 day tickets as possible.

Anyone know if Ric Ocasek is back with the Cars, that would improve my overall thoughts on this Fest.

I think you have it.  The Pearl Jam fans arrived in a timely manner (six hours before PJ went on).  Ruined the show for the MMJ fans.  All they did was talk.

I'd had hoped this would happen, and it did! I'll definitely be there for the boys, but having gone to 3 out of the past 4 Lollas, I gotta say this line-up leaves something to be desired. Coldplay...really?

" The Cars " ,  takes me back to 1985 ( the year I graduated High School ),  I might have to bust out my parachute pants and my leather vest ( with no shirt on underneath ) which would not  be a pretty site to see me in these days.

Keep an eye on the Lollapalooza forum - they will begin to piece together which bands play which day based on myspace/facebook/other tour dates.

No, MMJ will headline the north field.  The first six bands listed are always the headliners, not support acts (except in those years when there was an unopposed headliner like PJ and Radiohead, and I don't think we'll have that this year.)

I believe he is.

This isn't my favorite Lolla lineup by far, but there's lots of goodies in the undercard, and I'm going for free/cheap, so...I'm happy.

Thanks for the schedule, CC.  I got tickets for Saturday only.  Me, Mrs. Yac, and her brother.  Matt's wheelchair-bound, due to spina bifida, but only my wife will be allowed with him during the show in the HC area, so perhaps I'll try for the rail.

I do believe this constitutes a ROLL CALL!!!

Please leave the glowsticks at home.  Save 'em for Halloween; they're great for the kids.  I don't need to be distracted by people who have the will to throw shit instead of being enthralled by the music at hand.  Sorry, just my opinion.  Happy to rock the rail with you but at least keep the fucking things off the stage (and outta the boys' faces).

I kind of feel the same way when people bring in digital cameras and film the whole show or even multiple songs. It's ok if it's one guy but a if it's a whole section it takes away from the moment.

It might be my biggest concert pet peeve behind drunk women (which I don't see much of at MMJ shows anyway).

Unfortunately no, the 3 day passes sold-out about 2 weeks ago, and then very much to my surprise each individual day passes were sold-out real quick after that.  First time ever since the move to Chicago that the whole damn weekend sold-out, and first time since Radiohead ? (maybe GaGa did last year too) a couple years back that even one day sold-out.  I was actually kinda surprised since I didn't think the line-up was "all that great" this year, but I'm thinking the anniversary has a lot to do with this as well? I'll listen from Lake Shore Drive if I have to.

They will probably release a few extras at the box office day of - or you could always head down to the park and see if anyone is trying to unload a ticket.  For something this huge (they are at 90k capacity each day this year) there will always be an extra ticket.

You obviously weren't at Bonnaroo during Steam Engine.  Because the glowstick war that ensued there.. was fucking MAGICAL.   A Glowstick war, by the way, IS being enthralled in the music.  It's never really planned and it just comes when the music hits the crowd just right.  "Take your money and your DRUUUUUUUUGGGSSS" .  Please...leave you silly and grumpy complaints in your head...I would rather glowsticks be thrown than hear people complain about glowsticks being thrown.  just sayin...

Sad to see this thread near the bottom of the page, but I guess Red Rocks drew a lot of folks away and the quick sell out took a few folks by surprise.

Michele and I head out in a few minutes for our train into the city.  I might tweet here and there @johnnyyacmmjfan but with the webcast (http://www.youtube.com/lollapalooza), I don't think you'll need me for updates, so perhaps I'll leave the phone in my pocket and just enjoy the show.

Not sure if I'll hit the rail solo or hang with Michele and her brother on the wheelchair platform; I suppose it depends on where that is.  I'll be rocking my el chode creation t-shirt, "What time is it Patrick?"  See you on the other side...

From Chicago Tribune blog "Turn It Up"

Surrounded on two sides by some of the city's finest skyscrapers, My Morning Jacket responds with dazzling architecture of its own. Sharp melodic figures dart through spacious openings, dual-guitar harmonies soar and percussive rejoinders crackle, functioning as punctuation marks on a wide-ranging two-hour set. His face obscured by his long hair, singer-guitarist Jim James leads the ragged glory, spinning around and sliding across the stage on his knees. James' wailing voice reflects normal wear from the road, but he hits falsetto highs without problem. My Morning Jacket balances massive firepower with blissful balladry, and toward the end, gets adventurous with simmering cosmic rock ("Dondante") and elongated electro-tinged soul ("Holdin' on to Black Metal"). Years of constant touring whipped this band into a force. It's the best of both worlds, a unit that can be as loose or as taut as it desires, and one that knows when to pull in the reins on extended jams. All that the Kentucky collective lacks tonight is a large crowd. Seldom has it been easier to get so close to a headliner. A majority of Lollapalooza patrons chose to see Eminem. (BG)

VS.

Eminem rushes through a career's worth of hits, usually truncating them as if in a race to fit as many as possible into a 90-minute set. Bruno Mars makes a quick cameo to sing the hook from the MC's latest single, "Lighters," and then exits, never to be seen again. It makes for a quick survey of past accomplishments rather than a truly engaging and engaged performance. The rapper born Marshall Mathers avoids some of the more starkly violent songs from earlier in his career, and instead focuses on his own struggles in recent tracks such as "Not Afraid" and "Love the Way You Lie." He strives to portray himself as a more mature artist who has learned from his mistakes. In the most telling moment, he threatens to take a swig of vodka, only to spring several "leaks" from a rigged hoodie after he swallows. "Give my man a hand for staying sober this long," says hype man Kon Artis. It's not a moment played for laughs or dark humor; indeed, the set is strangely devoid of any levity at all as Eminem performs with a nearly joyless, workmanlike focus. "Can I take you back when I was (screwed up)?" Eminem says. Then he strings together snippets from songs such as "My Name Is," "The Real Slim Shady" and "Without Me" that made him one of the most notorious figures in pop culture, and also one of the most popular. Now, post-rehab he has become just as successful, but you're left wondering whether he's enjoying it.(GK)

On paper, the setlist was standard fare.  In practice, last night's performance was magic.

The crowd, from my viewpoint 8 deep in the muddy pit, was great.  I'd love to see the "outside" perspective.

The boys were tight and loose simultaneously.  They took the spotlight and ran with it.

The beauty of a big music festival: its amoeba-like ability to dish out a unique and cool experience to every fan who makes the trip and lays down the cash. Here, the most memorable moments the 20th anniversary festival handed my way.

1. Biggest, baddest rock concert: My Morning Jacket's powerful Saturday night set looked and felt like a kick-ass rock & roll experience from back in the day—enhanced about a thousand times by layers of indie elegance (think "Circuital" riff rippling into summer sky...). Amped by the nonstop energy of Jim James laying it down with powerhouse guitarist Carl Broemel, the crowd rocked out to "One Big Holiday" at a level I've never seen before or loved so much.

Wow excellent pics! What a special night. Do you think they will post youtubes of more songs, or just SST, OBH and HO2BM? The camera crew for this event was spot on!
