I hate to make this my first post but I must...
I am a huge MMJ fan. Been going to shows since before anyone knew who they were. I don't care the venue, if I have the ability then I've gone to their shows and loved them all.
However, I went to buy tickets today to their album release show in Louisville 5/31/11. I know there were strict guidelines for purchasing pre-sale tickets (i.e. fan club enrollment, American Express, etc.). I have no problem with that at all.
What i do have a problem with is not notifying the public that you have to have a Citi Visa/Mastercard, Discover Card, or Diners Club to purchase tickets during the general public sales. WHY? Who the F has these cards? I hope this was a ticketmaster or venue thing, but if this was a band choice, then I am highly disappointed. Even though I saw them in the Yum Center and again on UK's campus and will again at the Hangout, I was highly looking forward to a show at the Palace. Now myself and many other fans are screwed out of the opportunity. Thanks.
EXACT thing happened to me. I think someone forgot to change it in the system online! Because when I called them, they were all ready to take my order for horrible seats! After I lost my good seats! What a mess.. I'm not going to pay that much money for balcony seats way in the back, especially since I was prepared and had Orchestra seats held, then lost by ticketmaster. Not to include the price of driving there from St Louis..

Well I just got totally shafted. I was ALL set ready to go online, I even had a lower level orchestra seat(s), I filled out my info..all set.. Then it had Citi visa etc for credit card info, and I don't have a citi visa.. so i filled it out.. And it wouldn't work. I tried all variations and it would not work. I have NEVER had this problem, EVER (over 25+ yrs buying tickets).
So now all that is left is balcony nose bleeds.. Not happy.
Have fun everyone.
Any way to contact the band directly about this? I had lowers to and NOW they have just VISA available as an option. VERY FRIGGIN BACK OF THE VENUE!!

I doubt it.. I really think someone
at ticketmaster really screwed up here. But I doubt you will see anyone making it right. There is always twitter (for some kind of contact)
but I can't see anyone caring that much. A band member tweeted me and said he was looking into it and said he was sorry!! :dankk2:
(That means something to me, even if it doesn't get fixed.)
I was trying to get a ticket for my best friend in Louisville, so we could both go.. He couldn't make it to the Nashville show last April, so I went alone.
I imagine the response will be "you should have signed up for the fan club" yada yada.. People don't think about other peoples situations. Unemployment, travel, hotel, gas, food, etc to get to these shows. Money that is already tight, being stretched further.
I figured this had nothing to do with the band. They are great to their fans

No.. I know they don't have control over this stuff. But either way, we still got screwed.
I went ahead and purchased tickets just because I didn't want to miss out on this show being an album release and all.
Section BALC 4
Row Z
Seats 1 - 3
I love The Palace but even this venue can't make these seats any good. I am so disappointed. Maybe someone from the band will see this.
Good for you Joshuk21.
Even if someone did see this do you think they're gonna take someone elses tickets away so you can be happy. Ticket master is always fucking people, but to be realistic theres no way this can be fixed.
Ugh, that sucks, you guys. I've never seen it specify a certain kind of Visa/Mastercard - had to be some kind of weird computer glitch. Bummer. I wouldn't have known what to do either. :-\
Hopefully there will be some extra tickets floating around here for those of you who missed out. Check the tickets section of the forum.
I emailed the manager link below but here are some contact info. I just mostly want them aware of how TicketMaster screwed their fans.

I scrambled to make my order work online, and I guess because the Visa I tried to use wasn't a CITI Visa it kept erroring out, telling me the name was wrong. I tried many times with different cards to get the seats in the balcony that came up the first couple of times I tried.
Then I called their automated phone system, hoping that there were still some tickets available. I got Orch. 4, Row L. I have no idea how that happened, and I hate to rub it in to anyone who got shafted, but that's what happened.
The phone system was so terrible that I had to call back and wait on hold to talk to a human and correct the information. I will not feel comfortable until I have my tickets in hand, but here's hoping that it actually goes through like it is supposed to.
Again, I'm sorry to hear from those who got shafted by the website. Maybe it's worth trying the phone system to see if better seats have come available.

Not to be a dick, but stop being one. Again, the band should be aware of the people that are in charge of getting their fans to their shows. I never once asked for anything or expect anything. I know the band cares about their fans and I'm sure they'd want to know a lot are not happy.

Before you get carried away with the "love" the band shows, know this. I was at the Box Office earlier and was told that "The Band" chose to have AMEX pre-sale. My roll call allowed me two tickets. I have a friend that is a broker and used his AMEX to buy 36 premium tickets which will be resold at broker pricing. Not very fair to me!!!!!

screw them all then.. ha! Who knows.. it is messed up.
Same shit with the citi card option was on my computer too. Luckily I got mine with the presale, but was trying to get them for my buddy Joshuk21. I work downtown Louisville and walked down to the palace box office to get tickets for him, but by that time he ended up finally getting them online. I told the lady at the window about the citi card issue and she said they had had complaints about that and didn't know why it was occuring. It seems to definitely be a ticketbastard error.

Who's actually friends with a ticket broker? Those people are the devil.
Just tried an I get no seats available what's up
Sold out already???
I just randomly checked and singles were available, but nothing together.
i think it's good to post that stuff here
good luck getting this worked out, Josh-- and the rest of you--that sucks---something i fear everytime i try to get tix
keep checking, i was looking at it a few minutes ago and i got denied 2 seats 3 times and the fourth i couldve gotten a set even closer than the singles they were offering me.
thats how the chicago presale went for me. I was denied time and time again and finally I got 2 pretty good seats

yep, it went like this:
Bo: I think we should use Discover for the pre-sale.
TTT: I am down with Discover; bought a cool china set with my Discover card last week.
Patrick: What about cash only?
Yim: We should go with AMEX and AMEX only. I got a house in Maui that's behind a payment.
Carl: But what about the fans? We're really not an "AMEX" band, Yim.
Yim: Fuck the fans, I have bills to pay and I am a golden God. Plus, I got them all hooked on Thai Pop music, they are becomming a sophisticated and eclectic bunch! It's AMEX or I quit.
Bo: OK, I am down with AMEX only.
TTT: Me too, I guess.
Carl: OK, but I get the long solo on Holiday.
Patrick: As long as we dont play Phone, I am down with AMEX.
Yim: American Express; don't leave your fans without it.

Right on, Tracy!
I'm talking out of my ass, but does anyone here actually believe that Jim, Carl, Tommy, Patrick, or Bo have anything to do with what credit cards are accepted for presale or general ticket sales?
In the brief encounters I've had with these guys, and interviews, etc, I don't believe they get to decide on much beyond what they wear, and that might also be up to someone else. They're musicians, not businessmen.
This is Ticketmaster, specifically, and concert promotion/sales in general. Perhaps the next move needs to be to some new, third-party ticketing system. But we all know this will limit their access to certain markets, venues, festivals, on and on. Otherwise, it would have already happened and competition would kill Ticketmaster. Its like the cable companies; there are a few of them around, but for any given market you only have one choice, so its a situational monopoly.
What have some bands done, successfully, to avoid these problems?
And, before we attack the castle with pitchforks and torches, let's define the problem and the source so we aren't attacking the wrong people, eh? That includes each other.
I find it strange that this is the first show that the band used the Roll Call. Which in my mind, helps keep brokers and ticketmaster from conspiring to make extra money on the best seats. And what do you know, ticketmaster fucks something up that none of us ever have seen fucked up before. Something that is probably so automated that you would have to go completely out of your way to make it happen. Hmmmm.....

Actually its kind of silly. On what planet did MMJ all the sudden turn into some kind of huge resale band which would bring about a conspiracy between tm and brokers. This is hardly the first time tm has made this kind of screw up. There is virtually no quality seats on any of the broker sites I just glanced at and how many closed auctions on ebay, a whopping ZERO.
This is just like the onsale day at Radio CIty in 08! Tix went so fast, the scalpers made a huge profit. I got shut out, so Im bummed but sold out, really only means the price went up, and I aint in the market at a mark up.
Same thing happened to me. I had floor seats but couldn't get it to take my credit card info. I ended up calling Ticketmaster on the phone and getting seats 20 rows back in the balcony. Bullocks! >:(

I'm in no way saying there's a conspiracy, but I did a quick google search and there are quite a few good seats out there going for outrageous prices.

You do realize those are pretty much the exact same seats on all sites right? Ticket liquadator is a part of ticket network, when a broker uploads onto ticketnetwork his seats end up on all the same sites. I am not defending it or complaining about it, but that is how ticket network works.
I have to go with Cgreen on this one. I feel you have to go out of your way to pick only a few methods of payment. TicketMaster screwed people
This morning was a total disappointment. I had 5th row seats in my cart, but couldn't for them using Visa. I got a bit too smart, when I tired to buy a gift card for livenation, so I could pay that way. It turned out I'm a double loser because the ticket website doesn't accept the gift card from livenation. Stuck with livenation bucks and I am still without a ticket. :'(

yeah, i did realize that after the post. It sucks the ticket ordering method for most bands is still pretty much broken. Unfortunately there's not much we can do about it.
I hate hearing all these stories of disapointment from today. I've been there before and it's a horrible feeling. Hopefully the ticket karma gods will reward them in some way within the next month.
I agree that it is a bummer that tm screwed up. But did anyone really think they could play an album release party in their hometown in a venue with a capacity of 2700 and NOT have people disappointed? I have said this before to people, ticket buying is like musical chairs when we were kids. If 11 people try for 10 seats 10 people are happy and only one is disappointed. But if 8000 people try for 2700 seats, not so many happy people. And will call or paperless or making people stand on their heads isn't going to change that basic fact.
Is there a class action lawyer in the house??
Here is a screen capture showing the NON VISA option.
(http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5105/5670659706_6f93a1905a.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/hypnoraygun/5670659706/)
And yes I know there are a lot of people trying to get these tickets and people will be upset. But that isn't 100% the full story. People, myself included, were VERY much ready to order like normal. We "got" our tickets and tried to pay for them. THEN there was an issue. I understand sold out events, I understand high demand, I understand not being prepared.. but to screw up the option to pay? From Ticketmaster? That is ridiculous.
I got an idea!! Lets all the board members chip in and buy a Ticketmaster Bot, so we can get tickets like the scalpers do!!
But even the bot would not have helped if you didn't have the citi card when they screwed that up!
No one ever has to convince me that ticketmaster and live nation are a bunch of incompetent boobs. They are a classic example of modern day corporate nonsense that is so incompetent its almost flat out unbelievable. From a Bob Lefsetz posting the other day:LOSE MORE MAKE MORE about live nation's brass.

Just curious, I have an account set up with tm. When I purchase tickets I don't have to select a card because mine is on file. Did anyone have a problem using this method?
I feel so sorry for you guys, I would be sick to my stomach right now.
I too feel like this may have been a tm inside job. I'm no web expert but wouldn't you have to go in and actually edit the web page for those options not to be there?
It didn't matter. I was logged in under my account and have been buying tickets for years. The only payment option that showed up was the citi cards.

wow, just wow
I miss the pre internet days!! Street scalpers were the only choice. Guys like DIMONE from Fast Times at Ridgemont High don't exist anymore...its too bad.
Welcome to the USA, INC i guess.
I am very sorry for those who didn't get a ticket. I am only telling my story for future ticket sales...I was able to get one by using my LiveNation app on my iphone. It had my card info saved and I was able to buy a ticket with no problem and I don't have a citiVisa card. This might be of some help in the future, but I know it doesn't help for this case.
Yeah had my tickets ready to buy down on the floor literally one minute after they went on sale and the citi bank only thing happened and i ended up in the balcony, awesome. Oh well, still gonna be an unreal show.
So, does anybody know if the show is officially sold-out? I tried to search for tickets several times today and had no results--not even singles.

No show on ticketmaster is ever "officially" sold-out. They always release more tickets as the show gets closer. Just gotta keep trying.
I wish they would just go back to buying tickets at the venue. Camping out for tickets was fun. :D
Why does the band go though ticketmaster?? I don't understand. I work and manage a venue here in Durango Colorado and we get ALL of our tickets through www.holdmyticket.com (http://www.holdmyticket.com) - sadly, it's not the bands choice (although it should be) what ticket agency they work with...it's the promoters choice. Obviously, these promoters have contracts with ticketmaster.
Well, I propose MMJ do it all from the inside...they don't need to work with AEG or Goldenvoice - they'll sell out any show with or with out them. They should print their own tickets and send them and sell them to fans whatever way they please because THIS SHIT is ridiculous.
I miss camping out for tickets. Sometimes those nights would be as memorable as the concert itself. The interweb sure has messed up as many things as it's helped.

hmm, not sure. I always thought it was the whole Clear Channel/Ticketmaster/Livenation monopoly thing that made that system work. Is your venue small? It seems like all the smaller theaters have been bought out. The State Theater here in detroit is now part of the Filmore franchise. same thing happened with Pine Knob, it's now DTE. big money in advertising and all that. The bigger the venue gets the more corporate bullshit you have to deal with. Didn't Pearl Jam cancel a tour in the early 90's to boycott ticketmaster? I'm sick of getting butt fucked by these middle man companies standing between the fans and the music. MMJ needs big venues now to house us apes so I think we're temporarily screwed.
I thought CC said that they will now exclusively use artist arena. Or at least roll call will :)
