sad
isn't AZ still boycotted...
It's true. We're a RED state here in AZ. We hate, flog & send back illegals. BUT we're also the hometown of Steven Spielberg & The Foo Fighters. Please don't mix our hate with the art we've produced. JACKET COME BACK TO AZ!
MMJ is from KY so Rand Paul is cool
Steven Spielberg and the Foo Fighters are from Arizona really?
Also the other thing about them playing here is where the fuck would they play. Unfortunately they are too big for Rialto and Marquee and probably still to small for Comerica (dodge) or what Super Furniture Mega store or whatever the hell they are calling Desert Sky these days. I don't they could even fill up AVA. I hope im wrong and they decide to play Rialto that show in 08 was fantastic.
I don't blame bands for boycotting AZ for the regressive politics. Its embarrasing to live here, can't wait to get the hell out. :embarassed:
Plus the Marquee in Tempe is one of the worst venues I've ever been to in 25 years of attending rock shows all over the country. I mean I seriously despise that venue and the people who run it should be ashamed of themselves. AZ sucks in many ways, no doubt about it. There is some pretty desert, though.
I'll gladly travel to my home state, CA, to see a show in a good venue.
shug, phoenix isn't THAT bad. I like it here. Just moved here three years ago & am here to stay. It's kinda like a poor man's Los Angeles
Yeah, there are some things that make it bearable here, like Mark Zubia and Los Guys http://www.markzubia.com/ (http://www.markzubia.com/) , good hiking, and some pretty good restaurants and some good small venues (Rhythm Room, Yucca Tap Room), but when I look at the the live music schedule for cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and Austin, TX or look at the tour schedules for my favorite bands, it can bum me out. Marquee Theater vs. Fillmore Auditorium? No contest! Lots of non-mainstream bands skip Phoenix in favor of Tucson, if they come to AZ at all. The politics is a whole 'nother story, lets just say I'm not in agreement with the prevailing perspective here. But I've been reminded to keep a more positive attitude, so I appreciate your comments, fortbethel! :)
I'm in phoenix and the music vibe does kinda suck, as do our politics...music crowds are much better in tucson
I think it's perfectly acceptable for a band to choose Tucson over Phoenix. Tucson's scene has so much more character than Phoenix. My fav place to dine in the entire state is in Tucson! 'Cafe Poca Cosa' defines Sonoran cuisine.
