I'm really fired up for this show, just upgraded my tickets to Row B, directly in front of Yim. Just found these photos of the venue on the infernets....

I also got a pair of tix (way in the back, but at least I'm in there!) from a good person on this board and I'm WAAAYYYYY stoked! Its my first MMJ show and this venue looks incredible. Gonna style it at the old Riot House on Sunset, I love that hotel. Its gonna be a rock 'n' roll party Hollywood style!
I'm flying my wife out to LA to meet up with my sister & attend this show. They'll be in the 3rd row (C I guess?). After viewing these pictures, I must say I'm suddenly jealous :(
looks like any seat in the house will be amazing. Can't wait for this
this is my recommendation for fab beer and grub before the show: Blue Palms Brewhouse
http://www.bluepalmsbrewhouse.com/pages/home.html (http://www.bluepalmsbrewhouse.com/pages/home.html) it's about 2 blocks east of the Pantanges on Hollywood blvd. consistently terrific beer on tap, great prices, tasty food.
Awesome pictures!!!! Is there an official hangout spot before the show? If there isn't one assigned we should totally make this happen! I'm an out of towner so I don't know of any fun bars in walking distance to the venue, but if anyone has any ideas throw'em out there. Sooooooooo excited! :D

Being as I really know nothing about LA or the hollywood area, and my love of cerveza...I plan on checking it out.
Is it confirmed yet that there aren't any openers?
I think this is the only show I plan on actually buying a poster for (if I do get to go). :emoticon:
pretty sure Everest is opening.
Sweet! I cant do the after show cerveza session, but I will mostdefenetly be tehre before the show!

These are the spots I'm considering preshow:
Food:
Wood and Vine 6280 Hollywood Blvd and Vine
this one probably requires a reservation, which we have for 6:00
Bars:
Frolic Room (next to Pantages) Hollywood and Vine
Power House at Hollywood and Highland (west of Vine)
The Well at Sunset and Vine opens at 5 PM
I'm guessing the Frolic Room will be packed and we may not even be able to get in there right before the show, but we'll see how it goes. Might try to hit one of these bars afterwards:
The Woods La Brea and Sunset opens at 8 PM
Parlor Room at Yucca and Cahuenga (near Franklin) opens at 8 PM
I'm an out-of-towner and have never been to any of these, but its what I found while researching it. I'm not really a beer guy, more into cocktails, so not as interested in Blue Palms myself. Anybody from LA been to any of these spots?
Anyone looking for 1 extra ticket to Wednesday's show? I have a center orchestra ticket. Face value. Please let me know. Thanks!
I'll probably miss the beginning of Everest if I end up sitting in traffic...which I most likely will. Great band.
TWO MORE DAYZZZZZZZZ
anybody recommend cheap parking in the area?
Right around the corner to the Music Box the parking costs $10.00, but if you really want to have a few extra bucks the have $5.00 parking in the shopping centers before you arrive at the theater.
I have three -Orchestra XX- extras ($50) in case anyone is looking - I thought I'd check with you guys before I put them on CL. I get into town early tomorrow afternoon.
thanks -
Jay

anybody have any idea what the opener comes on?
Says show starts at 8....I imagine doors will open at 7.
I'm so excited, but I don't know what any of you look like! SHOW YER MUGS! :D
Anyone on the fence about going to the Blue Palms, don't be, this place is AWESOME! Their beer selection is incredible, they carry a ton of different IPAs and preimum local brews. Their food as pretty dang good as well. You won't be dissapointed!

I'm completely off the fence on this one...I should be there around 5:30ish hopefully, and plan on eating some grub and sampling some suds.

It's literally walking distance. It's across the street and a block down. It shares a common wall with the Henry Fonda Music Box. Definitely one of the best spots in LA to get really great quality brews.

Do you know if they have Happy Hour?
I also have tickets to see Larry David on Jimmy Kimmel Live but I think drinking and eating beforehand sounds more reasonable.
Sweet Walter, you're gonna have a blast! If I get out of work early enough I'm going to try and stop by.
Not sure about happy hour Cotixan, their beer is on the expensive side but it's definitely worth it. They've got many beers that have 10% alcohol levels and above. Here's their website, check it out . . . http://www.bluepalmsbrewhouse.com/pages/home.html (http://www.bluepalmsbrewhouse.com/pages/home.html)

Sweet dude, tonight's gonna be FUN!! You technically can't puff in any venues in LA but that's never stopped anyone, haha. Just keep it low and blow the smoke down and I'm sure you'll be alright. I'm legal too, let's burn! ;)
not much Dondante as of late. Please play tonight MMJ!
oh, and Nashville to Kentucky and War Begun or Stangulation or I think I'm Going to Hell. Or all
THANKS!! ;D
*tucks joint in sock*
If we get Dondante, War Begun, and I think I'm Going to Hell tonight I will cry tears of joy!
Shit might as well add Phone Went West, Bermuda Highway, and Steam Engine to that list! All these songs make me giddy like a little kid. :D

Hell yeah dude! Bring em all I say!
I'm driving up from San Diego, hoping to get there in time to grab a few brews & grub at Blue Palms and still make it for Everest's set.
I'm really hoping for Dondante, War Begun, I will sing you..., Lowdown, Phone Went West, Steam Engine, Masterplan, Olde September Blues, and Strangulation!. Haha, am I asking too much?!?! I'm stoked, it will be my wife's first time seeing them live.

yeah, we're asking for a little to much, but that's okay
nice use of the wrd "Olde" btw!
I'd love to hear them whip out the chiller version of OSB that they did a while back. Was expecting that night one at T5

tonezone, thanks for giving quality feedback for blue palms! they do have happy hour: 6-10 i think. they draft $4 pints of select beers. i'm also a big fan. if this place had a patio, i would be there a lot.
another spot that is open all day: stout on cahuenga & selma (1 block up from Amoeba). they have about 12 taps, open air seating and burgers. i love them. (man, this may be where i have lunch today...)
and delancey's on sunset & bronson about 4 blks from venue: GREAT beer selection, flights available. terrific pizza, great pasta.
for those inclined for salads: tender greens: sunset @ vine. AMAZING. they have wine and 2 beers on tap. also: back patio seating.
i used to work in this neighborhood, so i've got my fave spots. :)
I'm coming up from San Diego on a Metro Train and I might check out the Blue Palms before for 1 or 2 beers. I want to take edibles along but I tend to talk and laugh alot and it might be kind of intense or go wrong.
The 3 Songs I'm hoping for tonight are
Lowdown
O is the Name
Phone Went West
If they put Smokin in the encore tonight I will be very happy.
Haha, throw in Just because I do, and I needed it most while were at it, hah!! O is the one would be awesome too. My wife would most love to hear Smokin... but I think that one's a given.
I'm fresh out of puff as of a few days ago, but have a candy i might bring. Hopefully I have generous neighbors!!
Blue Palms has $3 cans of Avery tonight. Not bad.
...and yeah, I wanna hear the good olde version with "sleepwalking" intro!!!

There will certainly be generousity in row L of the Jimmy James section! (http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a59/penstarfifteen/blaze.jpg)
Awesome, thanks friend!!
I'll be in Row J of the Jim section. Tallish dude with black shirt, beard , and blonde girl. hahaha!! That's awesome!
Sweet, I'm only 2 rows behind you then. I'm 6'5'' with a beard and the wife is 5'7'' with long, dark, curly hair. Come by and say hello. ;)
Happy Hour 6-10, Oh Man I'm AMAZED!
If I pay 4 dollars for a good beer at a bar it almost feels like it is free.
So excited for the show tonight, leaving in 30 for the Train!
my buddy scored our tix about 3 minutes after they went on sale. Luckily we were able to secure the last row in the building
feel bad for all you folks who are going to have people behind you. heh heh
they say the venue isn't too large though so we should be just fine
and...atleast we won't have any NARCS behind us
Everest Tweet from a few minutes ago...
Ho-ly crap. Must be the most beautiful venue we've ever played. Catching up w/ @mymorningjacket before soundcheck @Pantages #mindblowing

way to make a great showing tonight, los angeles & environs! i met some cool people at blue palms before the show (walterfredo, i fear i showed up too late to see you. hope you dug it!). and even though we'd all bought tix separately, chief okonokos, mm tube top, her pals and i were all in consecutive rows on the same aisle. dance party USA!
this was a FANTASTIC show!
tonight's annotated setlist:

--wonderful
--outta my system: bells intro, green spot light on jim, carl head banging at the pedal steel, gorgeous lights!

ok. one last note: steam engine. i wrote: BEAUTIFUL EPIC. this was one for the books. don't know what might have been different, but hearing this song, at this show tonight was...well, i also wrote this: LIFE ALTERING ;D

The show was good. The Bear, Anytime, and the encore Songs were my highlights.
Felt like it was missing a Power Song in the middle like Dondante or Phone Went West.
Ran to get a Beer when they played Outta My System but they just sold out.
The venue itself is very hot on the inside but amazing views everywhere. Great Light Show.
(I think) They played every song tonight off Circuital tonight with No Highly Suspicious or Golden was to be found.
BTW- What was the song that Carl sang lead vocals on?
that was "carried away." it's on his solo record, "all birds say." mmj played it at several shows last spring/summer. (great album! perfect for summer, too  )
awesome ms. yvon, love the setlist notes!
Maybe your shorts zipper being down is actually the first step to having your panties rocked off?! Just a thought!
Man these setlists are making me jealous...
Ms Y! Thank you for your dilligence! That setlist looks fantastic, and love all of your notes! That's a keeper!
and...the BEAR!!!! aaaaaaaah!
Great review Ms. Y.
Thanks for keeping notes and passing them on to us.
Gotta love the aisle dancer "freakin out".
Great notes, ms y, and what a show!! The Bear!!! It seems the boys have been busting out at least one Super Gem for each show lately, and I think Carried Away might come close to that. I wish I could go to every show, but I especially wish I had been able to make this Dance Party, and rock it with you and the Chief and MM Tube Top again!
I thought to myself at the Chicago show that I wish I had been taking ms y-style notes for all of the moments that I had -- but I was able to remember most and put them down as I listened to the recording.
Keep an eye on that barn door -- I think ralph had it right! ;D
this show looks fantastic...can't believe it's still 2 months away to my shows...ms. y i am quite jealous of that setlist...i've never seen them give one away that was handwritten with notes...hang on to that one, it's a goodie

I was at the Blue Palms but could not get a seat in time to eat so just had a beer. I saw a pretty woman in a blue summer dress, and for some reason I thought it might be you. You were in the background of one of my Carl show pics, but barely visible.
I can't get over how incredibly GORGEOUS the venue is. It was quite warm, but I always leave a great show all sweaty! lol
The Bear, Lay Low, Carried Away, Day is Coming, Wonderful and Run Through teaser were my highlights. This was my first time seeing them in seats and it kind of sucked! The couple next to me kept leaving and coming back...it was fucking annoying. I kept looking down in the pit area and was incredibly jealous. Everyone down there was having a BLAST. Santa Barbara show will make up for it! ;D
I ALMOST didn't buy a poster...but I'm so very glad I did. They let me take it out to my car since the band hadn't started. Awesome.

Awe Crispy and all the T5ers, you were missed! It really was great how we all randomly had the isle row seats together with so much room to get down.
Scosby2 too cute, those handwritten notes were written by Ms. Y herself but I love the idea of Jim pulling out a pencil between songs lol. She dilegently took notes between some hardcore rocking out and zipper exposure. Something I haven't seen since my Dead days
Great Venue, absolutely beautiful and props to Jim for telling us they defend LA all the time for being a great crowd, he did the same last year at the Greek
LA has a lot of love believe it or not...to quote Randy Newman (as everyone should) "We Love it!"
Definitely seeing a Victory Dance/ Circuital & Slow Slow Tune/Movin Away grouping happening and they flow so nicely as the album was layed out. Day is coming, bang bang! Outta my System such a great build. I have to say all the new tunes are like long lost friends, a great feeling and tribute to the strength of the album!
Touch me Pt. 2 so early, I knew it was going to explode, great segue into First light (60s transporter to me) nice combo
Freak out guy made my night as well, impressive gliding up the ilse dancers all night ;D
The Bear.... I can't bike to the Santa Monica pier without humming that in my head wondering if it was a bad idea to have biked there by myself, pleasently suprised to hear this
Laylow really brought me to a new place, a going full tilt kind of place
Gideon/ WOTBM showing how the old and new flow so nicely, Great to have the LA Chapter which I fear to post for Penny... I believe it was The Watson twins and Nicole Atkins (they sounded awesome, rocked it hard) I love this idea of Live Female chorus on this rather than a sample (Eric M), in the vain of Roger waters local kids chorus every venue for "Another Brick in the Wall" during his Wall Tour. I was hoping this would happen and would love to see it continue! Right on!
OBH... always great to hear but very special in CALIFORNIA, I get all giggly hearing it here because at any show when the band has a shout out lyric to where you are, you can feel the personal pride, it cracks me up
Steamengineeeeeeee oh it's never physical just spiritually beautiful, Ms.Y is right, last night's Steamengine was life altering
Smokin from Shooting, you could feel everyone going inward then exploding out into end of Run Thru ohhhhh How you almost need it then
Circuital moment for me on Mahgeetah, the first show for me where I really got hooked they opened with it. This was the beginning of getting pulled into my Jacket madness, so to finish with it last night was a personal moment not lost on me.
I feel like I am in the middle of a West coast T5. KCRW was priceless, last night blew me away and I have three more Cali shows to go. Karl's Carried Away which was so sweet kind of felt like a minnie Joe's Pub. I'm just sayin... you all were missed.
Lighting was per usual unbelievably beautiful. Green eye beckend and back screens splashed perfectly, always complementing and enhancing the tunes. I don't know if it's Marc Janowitz's work again, but whoever it is once again I was blown away. So talented.
Oaktown here I come ;D Bakesale Betty's I'm going to tear you apart! So Grateful :dankk2:
Told myself i wouldn't buy a poster unless it was a Burwell ( :D) it's nice
Set was great. I was singing the Bear in my head all day for some reason. Wrapped it up perfectly.
No epic middle number like i was hoping (Dondnate, PWW) and no Highly Suspicious :'(
I don't think he donned the big white boots either.
Great energy overall though. fun show for sure!

for kicks, here is a pic of my set list. for anyone out there who might wonder what these look like:
does it say smoking or dancefloors..it looks like it says smokin or dance to me. dancefloors into magheetah to end a show is always an epic choice...not to complain as i love smokin as well
[/quote]
next to smokin i wrote, "watch or dance?" b/c i was torn between watching the great view i had of the whole stage, and leaping around, dancing. ;D a few times during the show the people in the row in front of me left or sat down so i could see the whole band at once. really something cool to take in: all 5 of them going at it up there, spread across the stage.
ralph & crispy: you may have nailed the zipper issue, my friends. preventative steps may need to be taken.
Wonderful review, Tube Top! So great to hear about enjoying a show that way, the next best thing to sharing it with you guys.
Steam Engine just seems to get better and better, eventually it's just going to transport us into that next dimension, as Jim suggested in Chicago.
You're coming to Red Rocks, right, TT?
Ms. y -- preventative measures? Perish the thought! ;D
The Bear was the definite highlight for me, love that tune
bummed the sold out of the posters so fast

Oh this is so beautiful. Just...so beautiful.
Excellent reviews!! Sounds like you all had a great show. Just listened to "The Bear" because you all put me in the mood for it.
Miss seeing you rock out, ms y....hope to see you at a show sooner rather than later.
Oh what a show last night!!! The Pantages was beautiful theater with a lot of gold painted decor and Jim even commented on it. He even complimented the crowd saying that LA gets a bad rap, which was true in this case because we were clapping in sync early on! i had such a blast, and haven't seen a show like that in a long time! oh and the stage, i love it! the screens in the back rule!!
oh and the lighting was KILLER!!!!
Everest opened and they were great, but i wanted to see more of them. I guess they've been recording because they played a few new tunes. The Watson twins (one of them is married to the singer) came up for one song and did a whistling part. Later they would become the "Black Metal Girls LA Chapter"
They did the entire new album plus some other great nuggets! Lay Low with a rockin' jam!! Smokin' from Shootin' > Run Thru !!! !! !!!!!! !
The Bear! Steam Engine was spectacularly sublime, with the starry background on the screens. Slow Slow Tune and Movin Away were awesome!! so emotional!! Oh Black Metal you're so misunderstood!! :)
Jim had a few new dance moves too hahah. he was hitting his guitar with his body (while it was dangling off the strap) at one point after hitting a chord and it made some crazy sounds. oh and they did carried away too, soooo sweet!
oh and another awesome thing was that we all got tickets separately but my morning tube top was right behind us, ms yvon was a couple rows in front and another friend was right near as well. Dance Party fo sho!!!!!!
next up, santa barbara bowl!! woo hooooo!!!
Nice, Chief! I didn't realize the Watson twins were in the Black Metal Chorus LA Chapter! Was it just those two or were there others?
Oh, I like that Flying V pic, mnj.
Has The Bear been played since the T5 show? Posting my Youtube videos and set list on Live Music Blog and wanted to include that stat as a notation if true.

nope...and you will probably only see it pop up on a setlist one or two more times on this tour, if that much...just one of those epic songs that can only be touched a time or two in a tour...just too emotional
One of my Top 3-4 songs, so great to see that pop out unexpectedly last night along with that destroyer Steam Engine. Also, One Big Holiday had a nice extension too!
Also, has Carried Away been played on this tour? Haven't been keeping up as much as usual. If anyone knows last time that was played please let me know here.
Thanks!
Also, review of this show will appear in Relix!
Amazing show indeed. I was in Row B Orhcestra Right center, basically right in front of Jim, and pretty much pressed against the speaker stack on the right side of the stage. Needless to say, my ears are still ringing. I actually had to move over because TTT's bass notes were making my chest vibrate. Missed out on a poster as well, pretty bummed about that.
Ms Y, thanks for the Blue Palms tip, loved it. We were there from about 5 to 6:30ish, then went back after the show as well. Shouldn't have gone back after though, paying the price today!
The Pantages was an amazing place, and the band was on fire as usual. Such a great night. Cannot wait for Oakland.
I did find it ironic that Jim was defending the bad rap that LA concert goers get...yet several times I looked back and noticed well over half of the place was sitting (granted, it was during slower songs), and the entire balcony was sitting, or at least appeared to be. The only 2 times I've ever seen people sit for a MMJ show was last night, and at the LA Greek in 2008.

Nicole Atkins too. OH Red Rocks.... ummmmm ::)
The stage lights/screens were incredible last night. I didn't see any of those visuals playing during any of the 3 recent webcasts.

Oh Wow seeing MMJ play at the Greek would be incredible. This Fall please ( 2 night in a row:prays:) :D
I'm getting more excited right now for Santa Barbara . I think the band will change up about 9 songs and play a different encore cause of the short distance from LA.

Ah, I just needed to go back a page and re-read your review!
I will take that as a confirmed "YES" for Red Rocks. ;)

It was very hot up on the mezzanine. I could have sat the whole time, as many up there were in the 50 and over range. It was only about 5 songs out of 25 where anyone sat down. I personally enjoy concerts better sitting, been to hundreds the past 35 years, and never knew it was frowned upon.
here's a few mediocre iphone pics I took last night.

If you are going to Santa Barbara the Greek would be a let down in comparison. The layout is almost exactly the same, except the Greek added side riser seats on both sides that pretty much suck. That is where I saw MMJ last year, and it was 1/3 as loud as last night. With Roll Call seats, I will have a great view for the show on July 2.
My ears are still ringing as well :D and I'm actually enjoying it while it lasts! It is one of the lingering effects of that beautiful show that will stay in my memory forever!
Walterfredo, you must have been pretty close to me. I was pressed up against the speakers on the right side of the stage as well, directly infront of Jim. What an unforgettable experience to be so close to such a legendary band.
Having seen many other artists in the past I have to say that none of them have made my concert experiences as memorable as MMJ has. Also, I have never managed to get that close to MMJ stages at other venues. The incredibly intimate setting of the Pantages along with the gorgeous ambiance made the energy of the show so powerful. Jim James is extremely energetic and soulful. He puts so much heart into his music, it's truly unbelievable. Best live band ever IMO... Can't wait for the next show!

I haven't been to the Greek in years but I do like the venue location. Santa Barbara has reasonable beer prices at $6 bucks for premiums. On top of that, SB has great weather for all of us in Socal at the start of July.
Just ready for a another outdoor show after sweating last night in the middle of the Mezz.

I got a name change because I decided to join the Roll Call Group...anyway
I was in M 111 in the Mezz but moved to some open seats by a friend. I didn't get to see the venue lit up well because I was late do to a fatal train car/railroad accident on my way coming up. I lost 4 hours of travel time and missed the first 3 songs of the show.
Taping up on live music archive. Can't attest to quality, still downloading, but looking forward to The Bear!

Holy shit!!! No matter how many times I watched Okonokos, Storytellers, and listened to other live recordings, it did NOT prepare me for the overwhelming power of actually being at an MMJ show for the first time. Incredible! I knew it was gonna be great and I was thrilled going in, but all expectations were shattered and I was taken into the stratosphere by actually being at the show. Man, oh, man! Sheer rock power!
One of the great things was how fantastic all the new songs sounded. I had not really been too excited about Circuital songs (except Wonderful) and I was hoping I would like them more live, but I had no fucking idea how much songs I didn't even really like would EXPLODE when hearing them live in person! The freak-out at the end of Victory Dance, the beautiful acoustic guitar riffing in Circuital, the heavy heavy rocking of Black Metal, it all blew me away. Getting Lay Low and Anytime was hugely exciting. The twin guitar leads in Lay Low!!! The ending jam of Magehtah rocked so frickin' hard, it was had all the vibe and passion and amped-up Chuck Berry dirty riffing Stones in 1972 except with a razor sharp precision AND a head-banging rocking like an 80s metal band.
I know probably every one on this board felt the same way I did at their first show, so its nothing new and definitely not surprising to you all and I'm also very late to this party, but I'm just speechless. Best. Live. Band. On. The. PLANET!!!
HELL YEAH SHUG!
my 1st show was in LA also and i felt the same. new songs live are great!!
