So I took a job with Teach for America and I'm moving to Alabama in August. Obviously the first thought I had was, "When is the Jacket coming to the South??"
I have met some of you good folk at shows in the Northeast over the past couple years and I'm pumped to meet some forum members from the South. So who's planning on hitting this show??

I was planning on coming down for this show, but am passing to go to Boston.
You'll LOVE this venue! Only holds maybe 12,000, a couple of years old, great sound/sightlines throughout the whole place. Definitely try to get in the pit. Nice and small, maybe 2,000. Even the lawn is close, as there is only one level of reserved seats.
Look into staying at the Alpharetta Marriott. Get the Verizon Amp package. Includes shuttle for two-to/from venue and buffet breakfast for two. Real nice hotel and buffet is pretty damn good too. I think it's $119.00 a night for the Amp package.
Enjoy the show.
i'll be there

ooooh lala. I just might have to do this! Thanks for the tip.
Me and my amiga will be driving from Birmgham for this one. Pretty pumped that it's one of the last shows on this portion of the announced dates since we'll get to see the circuital tunes in more of a pre-pubescent stage rather than as slimy new-borns.

There are cheaper rooms/hotels in Alpharetta, but for the money this package is a great deal. I stayed there last year for Phish and staying there again next month for them again.
It works for me because I can have a couple of drinks and not worry about driving. If you're like me and don't want to drive, this is a great way to go.Cabs are about $20.00 each way, so you'll save that, and the breakfast buffet is $20.00 per. You'll definitely save some $ with this package.
Man, just writing this has me reconsidering Boston. :-\ I know after going there again next month, I'm going to want to go back for MMJ. ;) I love this venue, and I'm sure all of you will too.

I plan to be there!! Hope I can get presale tickets. New to using the Roll Call membership presale process so I hope it is smooth sailing.
I'll be there - what a great place to watch a concert. Plus it's on a Saturday, and I live close by. Gonna be a great day.

Me too, only after having ordered general admission tickets the first time, went back realized my mistake and had to order again to get pit seats. Which now I am five rows back!! Damn it!!! Now I have an extra pair of tickets for General Admission. Hope I can move those. Damn it, Damn it, Damn it!! Oh well, learn from your mistakes I guess.

How do you get that your 5 rows back?
My order just says GA(pit) - to me that would be first come first serve, no?
I got pit tickets too. I sat back at the last MMJ show I went to (in Chastain). I will not do that again....I have to be up in the very front for the Jacket.

I think he originally got pit tix but wanted to sit, so by the time he went back to get seats, they were already in row E. --- I hope he knows that the General Admission (Pit) are as close to the stage as you can get.

Well, now I dont know what the hell I did. I was thinking that reserved seating was what we wanted as the best available. Now I am seeing general admission is what is closest to the stage. Hell if I know. Either way, Im stuck with a pair of tickets that I don't need.

Yeah, general admission pit is the closest. I don't think roll call will let you get bad seats. I thought we were only allowed to get 2 tickets...how did it let you get 4?

That sucks....maybe you can bring 3 friends and you can switch off between pit and seats. Or you can sell them and just meet the people you sell them to at the gates.
Anyone who has been to the venue know how big the pit is??

Yeah. Sucks that we can't get the tickets in advance instead of having to pick them up at will call otherwise I wouldnt be as worried cause I could just sell them in advance. I would certainly do it at face value but I guess there fear is that some people would exploit this process by getting the presale tickets and selling them at a mark-up. They should include someway you can cancel your order though. Oh well, I'll work something out.
halesdd .. i'd call artist arena or whoever the powers that be. there is a 2 ticket limit so if you got 4 they could foreseeably cancel your order b/c of multiple orders? just call .. better safe than sorry and most likely you won't get saddled with 2 extras (since 2 is the max).
RE: the pit @ alpharetta .. it's good but bigger than you might think? i was there last july for phish. liked that venue ALOT

Yeah, good point. I can perhaps call them and see if I can work something out.
I don't think general admission is the pit. Looks like they will take out the seats for the Orchestra seats. It will be a rather large pit.

Brooke,
Thanks for the advise. They were kind enough to cancel off the reserved seat pair (or so I hope they process it correctly). Shew! Learned my lesson. Now as Jim James says at the end of Black Metal: Oh one, two, three. Let's rock!
I ordered 2 sets of 2 as well. 2 GA and 2 in seats. I called them and they told me it would be fine. Hopefully the guy knew what he was talking about.
I agree - it's a GREAT venue.

Sorry, I already cancelled the order through ticket arena.
Is there any good tailgaiting that is done at this location? Would love to toss back several before the show starts.
I dont know why rollcall said 2 ticket max per order, you are def allowed 4 per transaction. If you try to get 5, it won't allow you and says the max is 4 per transaction.
I have lived in ATL for around 3 years now but i have never been to this venue. I hear that its incredible. I saw Band of Horses their recently and the parking is in a big field next to the venue. Lots of tailgating to be had. Excellent venue
yes to the orchestra seats being taken out for larger GA pit .. at least when i went for phish
RE: pre-show lot scene .. definitely. large fields that you park in. i remember drunkenly peeing in the surrounding woods ;D
I haven't been to a show there where they took out the seats - do they pack it in GA or was it good?
I like General Admission except when it's so crowded you can't move an inch.

As Brooke said, they take out orch 1,2 and 3 and that whole area is the Pit. It's a good size pit but not too big.Holds 2,000 maybe a little more depending on how many people they want to cram in there. The reserved sect's 101-105 are pretty close and the lawn isn't that far away either. Beautiful little venue.
Here's a link to some venue pics:
http://www.vzwamp.com/photos/ (http://www.vzwamp.com/photos/)
The pit for Phish was pretty crowded but there was definitely room to move, especially towards the back and sides.

there is a two ticket limit PER TRANSACTION. You can buy as many as you want. Also the GA tix available through roll call are pit tix (in front of the stage).......the lawn tix are easy to get so you wouldnt need roll call to get them.
also, i have always hated this venue....although i dislike most big venues.

It only holds 12,000, which is kind of on the small side for Amps. Next to the St. Augustine,Fl. Amp, Alpharetta is the smallest one I've ever been to.
First post on this forum! I will definitely be there, I try to catch all the ATL or deep south shows. Im a huge mmj (as you all are im sure) but look forward to networking with some people going to the same shows as me. Anyone going to hangout this weekend or wakarusa? I'll be at both! ;D

I think your elbows will have plenty of room. They do a good job there of only letting people with pits into the pit. No crashers or stubbing friends down.
The pit there even has their own beer concession along both side walls, so you don't even have far to go to quench your thirst.

You are right...I'm thinking Lakewood. This venue looks a lot better.
I got pit tickets as well! This venue is awesome! The lot scene for Phish last summer was crazy and security let people have fun. Same thing inside the venue. The people were so nice and they have a lot of places to buy beer so you never have to wait long. Moe's even has a food tent inside the venue so you can get tasty burritos! I was up front for Phish and the pit is bigger than it appears.
Damn, you guys got me super excited, not that i wasnt already. Scored two pit tix today form the public onsale. I was nervous I was gonna get shut out. And after seeing pix of the venue, I'm very surprised that I wasnt. see yall in Aug 8)

Ditto Megalicious!!! Looking forward to meeting you and leaving the planet for awhile. This really is shaping up to be the greatest summer in decades.... if not of all time. Thank God for MMJ. They saved my musical soul from cheesy, autotuned, Glee inspired, POP radio. For that, I could never thank them enough. BRING ON ALPHARETTA!
verizon is my favorite venue in atlanta, besides the tabernacle, but is anyone going to wakarusa from the ATL area? cant wait to hear them again!
Got pit tickets and coming up all the way from Tampa. Figure if they add a Florida show it will just be a bonus.
Looking at the calander I see they play a bunch of shows the week leading up to Alpharetta...hope his voice isn't too shot.

13 shows of the 2006 tour for Pearl Jam?? I am freaking jealous! I loved MMJ far before they opened for PJ and was a huge PJ fan for several years before that tour so I knew their stuff well before they toured together. I saw MMJ open for PJ in Detriot in '06 and it was one of the greatest nights of my life. Have you seen a purely MMJ show before? They rock hard for a long time and when opening for PJ, they only had so long to perform so it wasn't the full experience.
As far as the setlist goes, it seems to be sort of repetitive at this point in the tour. That doesnt mean they won't change it up later down the road. They are probably just getting used to incorporating the new stuff with the old and experimenting with the kickass backstage setup that have. So I think you'll be in store for some repeating but overall they will change it up a bit.
Did you boys & girls see the setlist last night:

I'd take it right now for our show!

PM sent that should help you out on this.
:D :D :D
Thanks HalesDD!! Got my pit tix and hotel/shuttle all figured out. Super pumped now!! this will be my first entire mmj concert!
Less than two months away now!!
You guys are going to have a blast!
I just got back from seeing two nights of Phish there last week, and that venue rocked. It even survived some really intense storms on night 2.
So wish I could join you, but it doesn't appear to be in the cards for me with the other MMJ shows I have coming up.
Still keeping my fingers crossed though.
Enjoy.
Just got my tickets for this! Shocked there were still pit tickets available :D :D
At least I think so, this is my section "ORCHGA." Am I correct? Thanks.

Yes, that's a "pit" ticket.
I think the pit for this show is going to be amazing. We has pit tix for Phish last week, and even though both shows were sold out, we still had plenty of room in the pit. We managed to walk in around 7:00 - 7:15 each night, hang in the back of the pit for a bit, and move up to about 10 feet from the rail stage right about 15 minutes before show time. 8)
The only negative for me was unlike last year, the pit didn't have it's own beer concessions. I had to walk a whole extra minute or two to get a drink! ;)

I can really relate. CIRCUITAL has carried me through some of the most stressful times in years. It soothes my soul.
I got 2 orchestra pit TIX that I need to get rid of, if anyone is interested, hate to miss this, but the money situation is kinda rough at the moment, so....
This time next month, I will be pulling into Alpharetta, GA and getting myself ready for one amazing show by kicking back several brews before MMJ melts my face off. Can't wait. Gonna be absolutely awesome! Can't wait to rock with you peeps.

1. We were the same age when the episode first aired.
2. We both immediately downloaded all their music as soon as we discovered MMJ.
3. We both followed MMJ on tour.
4. We both lingered backstage to meet Jim James (and succeeded).
5. We both work for the CIAI, however, did not have an alien in drag to help me.

this is why you should be in atlanta on the 20th...look, there is even a jackass trying to get rid of pit tickets a few posts up...you can do it yac...
No can do, Sethster. Alpharetta falls on the last weekend before I start my new job at the local high school. I've spent my capital on 5 shows, a few posters, some vinyl, and am holding out for something epic in the northeast this fall/winter. YOU should come north, where global warming ain't that bad. ;)

One of the best venues in the country. Go hotwire or priceline and get a cheap 3 star hotel. Lot's of close options.
bump for excitedness!!! never met any of you peeps before but hope to at this gig. I'll plan to wear my J Roddy Indian shirt if you wanna say hey 8)

Really bummed about this but I probably bit off more than I can chew with this and Charlotte so I'm just going to stay home and go to the Charlotte show. Anyway, I've got two pit tickets for this show that I need to get rid of. I'll do $100 for the pair, that includes the free parking ticket. Save yourself $14 if your thinking about getting them on ticketmaster. If no one claims them by Monday I'll have to put em on E-bay, just wanted to offer them on here first. I prefer paypal but something else can be worked out if its absolutely necessary. Thanks guys.

see you at soundcheck - I found myself in the same situation when I got that email at 11am.
Still holding out hope I can get to this show. ;) Flights have dropped a bit, and weighing that + rental car vs. a 15 hr drive + gas. Still have my room reservation.... :D

Still got the two pit tickets for sale for this show. Will let them go for $95 now for the pair, includes the free parking pass. Shoot me a PM or something if you want em. I've got perfect feedback on e-bay (704chief333) so I do honest business, this show just isn't in the cards for me.
I see MMJ is playing Strangulation at a couple of these shows during this tour. My head might just explode if they do play that here.
If they play strangulation and phone went west
they'd make this dying man happy.
Disclaimer: I have no health problems
Also anyone have suggestions on where to grab
a,beer following the post show buzz.
Wear bikinis, heady pregame at the Hyatt pool. Let's bring the band some good energy.
based on the fact that your handle is Luna Moth and you said "heady", I'm gonna guess you went to Wakarusa...
glad someone remembers.. such a solid summer it has been for the jacket.
Chief, I sent a PM...interested in your tix if they're still available. Let me know. Thanks!!!

I totally agree with this. Somehow I hope the band hears our request
I would love a full version of Run Thru, War Begun, PWW, and Strangulation. An epic dondante is a must. Haven't seen MMJ since 'Roo so I am phening.
Also, if anyone has extra pit tickets I will gladly buy one.
phone went west, if you touch me i am going to scream part 2, thank you too, of course wordless... duh!! Guys I am so pumped, its all i can talk about!!!!
I am obsessed with this band, I am bring my best friend along, i had been trying to turn her on to MMJ with the okonokos and evil urges album for about a year lol..... but surprisingly it was circuital that grabbed her by everything holy. I cant tell you how amazed i was to hear her singing along to the lyrics of "first light".. i fell in love with the bitch!! a new MMJ fan has been born! Alpharetta here weeeeee commmme!!
I have high hopes for this one! After a War Begun followed by a Cobra in the next night, I think the tour is peaking now. They'll have a short 3.5 hr-ish drive from tuscaloosa, and a beautiful amphitheater to play. AND the overnight low is supposed to be 69 degrees....
sgonna be guud :D :D :D

What is there to do for all us lowlys who aren't hitting up the sound check party? Looks like tailgating outside the venue is out of the question. I'm about to drive by the amphitheater and scope it out
So what time does MMJ usually come out? I'm at the hotel right now and just trying to decide when I should leave. I don't want to miss any of MMJ but don't really care if I miss some of Neko Case.

The whole night sounds like a repeat of cincy, with dancefloors added in
Did they plan a full version of Run Thru, or just the end?
Great & not cramped pit. We were too close at the beginning & it sounded like shit so we moved back to take advantage of the PA speakers & smoke some bowls & it improved quickly & immensely. What was up with the... I'll call it a "lighthouse" effect on Jim's guitar? It kept going in & out like an old wurlitzer. It sounded weird & i was wondering if itt was the band or the venue.
I liked to shit em when they played Cobra. I was just lamenting the fact that pre-It Still Moved had been ignored all night & then there was Cobra. I love that damn song.
The ladies we pretty, the buzz was heavy. The band sounded together & loud. It was a fantastic night, me thinks...

Goldeneagle, Halesdd and I were at the soundcheck party and it was pretty awesome. They made us (there were about 40 people) wait outside during the "technical soundcheck" but we could hear the boys play I'm Amazed, Golden, part of The way he sings and part of Cobra. They let us in just after 4:00 and Jim told us to help anyone out who falls during the mosh pit and showed us where the medical tent was because "these things tend to get crazy." They then played Slow Slow Tune and Patrick actually cracked a symbol during the song that had to be replaced. They then did You wanna freak out and Out of my system (which totally kicks ass live). We were given an autographed poster on our way out. All in all, it was well worth the money and my wife and I had a blast! It was great meeting Halesdd and Goldeneagle as well.

I'm glad we did soundcheck. It was cool to have that private show kinda thing going. Only wished it was longer. Soccerphan, great to meet you! Guess I missed Halesdd. Were you wearing a Hawks jersey? If so, I appologize for what I said behind your back. I kind of wish I had moved back toward the lawn for a bit. I agree with Darkglow on the pit environment. I made a decision to step back from the rail because I knew the sound would be better. I say rail or lawn next time. Awesome Encore though! Till next time round. Peace 8)
Here is a picture of the sound check that shows how many people were there. There were probably only 15 or so roll call members and the rest were the glit and radio winners. I can see halesdd. I am hidden on the rail.

did anybody go to the pre-show soundcheck thingy?

I'm glad I rocked it on the rail. Jim ripped some nasty solos right in front of us. Rail had great sound quality. That was one amazing show. A little short and the setlist could have been deeper but the execution was flawless.

YES!!! Now I can hear the show without having to listen to the guy next to me talk about rocket ships and lemon meringue pie!
I feel better now...
P.S. This is the same guy who recorded the 4/20 show at the Alabama theater and he did a damn good job with that one! Can't wait to hear
this one. Thanks Taylor!
My forth MMJ show and without a doubt my favorite. To the band that did save my life, I thank you!
Here's a few of my Alpharetta shots. We tried to find the sonic sweet spot, so they aren't from the closest vantage. I do like the full band shots though, kind of different. Enjoy!
P.S. If anyone who went to the show wants my whole set of pictures, just PM me and I'll send them your way
