Roll Call!
I've never done this before, but I'm looking for friends to attend with. My travels to Europe this summer will have me in Germany around this time and I'm just looking to hook up with cool people in London and have a great time at this concert. Since MMJ fans are amongst the coolest people on earth I figure this is semi-safe and would begin with facebook friending =) I'm a huge fan, awaiting the new album and have never been to the UK before.

Anyone else out there realize that Erykah Badu is playing the same night - What are the chances that she would make it over for "Tyrone." One can only hope i guess. I am sure the show curfew will play a part in this.
Normal curfew at Somerset House is 11pm - can't see it being any later on a Sunday...
MMJ VH1 Storytellers airs tonight in the US - Any idea if VH1 or anyone else in the UK will be airing it as well ?
Has anyone received their tickets in the mail yet ?

Still waiting for mine...
gotcha - let me know when you get yours - I am having my shipped to work, which always gets me a bit worried
Has anyone ever been to this venue for a show ? I see they offer a ticket for an extra fee with access to a terrace bar....thinking about this as it might be the best way to actually see the show, assuming that it has a view of the stage. Any ideas ?
Somerset House is a great venue - it never feels too packed, and I've always managed to get a good view. I think the terrace bar/restaurant at the venue is facing The Embankment, and won't give you a view of the show at all - it's probably just for eats and drinks?
Can't wait for this show have read plenty of good reports about the venue Somerset House if the rain holds off it should be an awesome evening. This'll be my third time seeing MMJ live. They cancelled their last Dublin show a couple of years back (think it was the time Jim fell off a stage in Liverpool or somewhere and broke his wrist) but they never rescheduled anyway they haven't added a Dublin date so far this summer but i'm more than happy to head over to london to catch them ! Bring it on 8)
Great - I love the idea of not being too packed. Nothing worse then a venue that cant accommodate the size of the crowd, which just isnt fair. I also like the idea of not having to fight for a decent spot. I did some research and yes the terrace bar isn't stage facing....really looking for to this after all the new live stuff ive been hearing and seeing.
there are a few good shows for download on

chicago has good sound quality ( radio broadcast )
Finally got tix in hand 8)
Hey Im the student that started this thread! Studying in Florence till the end of next week then headed up to Germany & Amsterdam. Looking for someone to put me up the weekend of the concert, Find me on Facebook just send me a msg to accept that you are an MMJ FAN. Arlgonzalez6@hotmail.com Arlene Gonzalez ....
Oh yeah! Got my tickets in hand now, god bless the international postal services. Now I can relax...
At the moment the 2008 bootleg NewPort Folk festival spins on repeat! So nice to experience the music stripped down acustically, kind of gives new meanings. If you havent listened to it, check it out on the www.thesteamengine.net/ (http://www.thesteamengine.net/).
All the best from Sweden-see you soon folks! :)
Just so you all know, I'm running a competition for two VIP tickets to the Somerset House show. So, if you haven't been able to get a ticket yet (or want to bring some friends) here's the link;

Whats the chance of anymore UK shows?
Chances at this point for extra shows in the UK ? slim to none i would say with only 6 days until the only scheduled show...
So exited for this! :D Packing my bags, woop, woop!

Hope you and your friends have a great and rockin' time Sara! I'm sure Latitude will be nice but Somerset.... :o
Whooooaaaaa Miss Banana Bearrrr!! Can't wait to hear how it goes, I know you'll keep us posted!!! Have an extra supreme time, lady!!!!! :D :D :D
Per the venue....
Doors @ 730
Opening act @ 8
MMJ @ 915
11pm curfew ( booo!)
I hope the weather will be somewhat decent....
What time are people planning on getting there ?
1h 45m show? They'll just be getting warmed up when the power goes off! Aiming to get there about 7.30pm...
Yeah the shorter show aspect really blows. Maybe they can take some of the openers set time.....I am still hoping in some way, however impossible it may be that Badu shows up....
Also aiming for 730 or a little before doors open. Anyone know of a decent pub around the venue ?
Anyone have any idea how security is at the Somerset house ?
The opening act is really amazing. One of my favorite bands to pop up in the last few years. Don't miss them! I saw them open for Dr. Dog, and they blew me away having never heard one song by them. I would kill to see tH&tH open up for jacket.
Thanks Ruckus and woodnymph, I will try to keep you posted! :D
I don't know when we'll get there, but probably some time around 7.30, really excited about seeing The Head and the Heart as well, great band! :D
All in all, SO EXCITED! :D
I REALLY hope this show is above and beyond anythin for you all, since it's gonna be the only full Europe show in a while.

Apparently one of nearest places to Somerset House is The Waterfront Bar in Surrey Street, right next to the venue it seems, and with views of the Thames..sounds quite nice. I might pop in there about 7-ish.
The Waterfront Bar"....that sounds cool - I might swing through as well, maybe 6ish, as I'd like to get to the venue around door time....

Great..I might get there a bit earlier actually..come and say hello..you will know me by my customised Jim James t-shirt!
Getting ready for London Calling now with James and the boys! Tomorrow I´m off for One Big Holiday and it´s gonna be great. See you soon!
Oh is the Waterfront bar only allowed for students? That´s what it says online...
The swedish invasion is on!
The forecast for tomorrow has changed from light rain to heavy rain :-\
Not to worry, we'll still be there. Look out for me wearing my personalised "I Still Love The Jacket Even Though Circuital Leaves Me Cold" T-shirt ;)

D'oh! I didn't know that. I have been trying to ring them to find out but can't get through. There's always the Walkabout..its right next to Temple tube station so easy to find and only a short walk to Somerset House..maybe a few of us could meet there instead.
I could do walkabouts...its right there on the river next to the temple station ?
-Dylan
Yes I think so..I will be there about 6.30 pm
I have to admit i'm not a fan of the new album but that was yet another exceptional Jacket show!!!
They played for a couple of hours, nice venue, I hate it when people say "what was wrong with the croud?" but seriously, what was wrong with the crowd?! Nevermind...Sparkle & I found ourselves a little space at the back & danced ourselves silly...I'm getting too old for this, my body hurts already, I need my bed ::)
Sorry to have missed you, DB. I agree on the crowd, though - very quiet. As always, though, the boys brought some energy to the stage. Awesome Dondante.
Great show, subdued audience. Thankfully it didn't rain
Some photos (should be public):

Although the crowd were subdued I liked the vibe, we were at the back chilling out with a couple of beers. Hadn't seen MMJ play in quite a while so it was good to see Jim and his cape back, and I loved SH as a venue (does it have a sloping 'floor'?)
Was holding out for 'Steam Engine' as the closing jam but it wasn't to be...
Yeah I guess the crowd was a bit subdued - everyone seemed to be in to it though - Victory Dance was fantastic live and unlike The Evening Standard (you can read the review here: http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/music/review-23970729-my-morning-jacket-somerset-house---review.do (http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/music/review-23970729-my-morning-jacket-somerset-house---review.do)) I thought the sound was excellent - especially when the guitars swirled around for Dondante - thanks for posting the photos! and yes the courtyard does slope towards the stage

Yeah I thought on the day, why on earth didn't I get in touch with Mark :-\
Well there was lots of jumping around and dancing where I was (right at the front). Loved the show..thought Off the Record was brilliant and it was a nice touch when Jim was bathed in golden light for Golden. I was blown away though by Dondante..awesome version! Steam Engine would have been nice, but I guess you can't have everything!
There was a moment last night when I wished I could spend my whole life in an MMJ show but after two nights in a row not sure these old bones could take it. Latitude was OK but SH was wonderful
Don't know what the standard was moaning about sound quality for ... I could have done without the two girlies behind us talking about their schedule for the next two weeks but was loved up enough to let it pass ... We had a high old time.
Come back soon ... pretty please
I would agree that the sound wasn't great. Carl's guitar wasn't up front enough, whilst Tommy's bass was breaking up my bones!
The subdued feeling was, I think, based on the the open air nature of the venue and the fact (this will be controversial) that MMJ's UK fans picked up on the vibe early in their career and we got only 4 songs from the 1st 3 albums but 15 from the latest 3 which have never been loved in the same passionate way.
To attend a MMJ gig that doesn't include any of The Bear, Heartbreakin Man, Bermuda Highway, I'll Be There When You Die, At Dawn, Lowdown, Xmas Curtain, Phone Went West, Run Thru (despite what it says on the set list), Steam Engine, It Beats 4 U, Lay Low is a real pisser. Not to mention Tyrone, It makes No Difference, Come Closer, Sooner, Cobra, How Do You Know, O Is The One That Is Real, etc, etc.
The fact that Mahgeetah, One Big Holiday and, above all, Dondante were the highlights generating the greatest audience reaction of the entire night, says it all.
I think the sound depended on where you were standing. We were to the left, about 10 rows back and Tommy's bass was all you could hear at the start - seemed to sort itself out a bit after a while, though.
Just got home to Sweden, so tired I could sleep standing, extensive review coming your way tomorrow, whether you want it or not! But the short one goes something like this: OH MY GOD! :D

Glad you got back safe & sound, SBB! Good to meet you (twice).
This was my first show. I managed to get to the front row and thought it was a great show. I don't know if anyone there would have picked me out of the crowd, but I had an eye that was completely closed up (something bit me), but I could swear there was at least one occasion where Jim kind of looked at me and thought "what the fuck is up with that guys face?!".
For those who thought the crowd were subdued, I suppose they were. But I think that's a cultural difference between American's and the English, rather than a lack of enthusiasm for the band. I'm not one to cheer unless I've had a few (which I hadn't) but I showed my support simply by clapping.
I swear I was going to write something down, but I'm just exhausted from having to work today, so until later I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank my parents for making me alive at the same time as My Morning Jacket, it's the best gift they've ever given me... that and unconditional love I guess...
