My very first MMJ concert..Anyone else on here going? McMenamins Edgefield, Troutdale, Oregon, June 28th. I might be a cryer....don't know; I'm just so anxious! 9 hour drive! Any advice from those who have been there? :D
I'll be there as will a few other faithful board members. The Edgefield is a great venue. You should get there early and make use of the putt-putt, distillery, and many bars throughout the hotel/premises.
The bummer is that there is a sound ordinance and so (1) the shows end much earlier than at most other places (but starts earlier to make up for it); and (2) It is never loud enough for me. That aside, it's a pretty sweet way to spend an evening. See ya on the rail.
Ruby me.
Thank you.....somehow I feel comforted by your reply.
:dankk2:
I'll be there - 9 hour drive as well! I used to live in Portland so there is no way I could miss that show. Edgefield is a way cool venue.
My boyfriend and I are coming from South Carolina. We are seeing them in Seattle too!!!
 i love love love this location. see you there!
I agree, it's a great venue. I saw The Black Crowes there a few years back and had an awesome time.
I don't know if I can make this one, though...
the 08 Edgefiled show is what really got me hooked on MMJ.
I was blown away by the venue/surrounding area. Could not have been chiller
$3 Pabst tallies all night as well. that was nice
Rizzo and Rizzo Gal will be there. Coming out from Denver to Seattle and then down to Portland. Bringing my bro and his wife who we turned onto MMJ at the 08 Edgefield show.
Driving down after Seattle for this one, then turning right back around to go up to Vancouver. Its gonna be a great week.
You know I will be there...
I'd definitely like to buy Ms. Yvon and Wizzard a frosty beverage at the show - I believe gratitude must be shown for a rampantly badass sticker (which is still on my fridge!) and awesome vegan gravy recipe bestowed to me years ago!

Hmmm, that vegan gravy is the good stuff! It will nice to meet you Lucylew, we will surely have to raise one!
i lost track of wizzard's gravy recipe before i could write it down. gonna have to dig that up...
we'll see you there, lucylew!

because you are awesome! thanks, w! i saved the file to my desktop.
Bring your rain jackets folks...we currently have some showers in the forecast for Tuesday. At least it is showers and not rain. We may not even see said showers out at the Edgefield, as showers imply a more random and on-off scenario (vs. rain which is widespread and steady). But the show goes on rain or shine at the Edgefield. I stood in a downpour last year at the Willie Nelson show which was a blast until our car almost got stuck in the mud pit of a parking lot.
First post: I so hope to meet some of you at Edgefield. I'm so stoked for this show and love the venue. Bring on the rain! Oregonians love the liquid sunshine...
Can't wait for this show tomorrow!
Going to Black Keys tonight in Vancouver then off first thing.
I'll be rocking my demon skull boats, I know Yim has his furrys now but I still love them.
To rock the Nintendo gun or not is the question. ;)

have fun bruthah, wish I could be there to rawk out with ya.
FYI, Jim didn't rock the furry boots in LA or Oakland (not sure about Seattle).
ok peeps, don't forget your rain jackets. this one could get sloppy.
just home from this show. the sun came out just in time for everest's set, and gave us a gorgeous sunset/twilight start to mmj's show.
[disclaimer]i know i've been bailing out of posting notes after shows this week but i've got to get an early start tomorrow.[/disclaimer]
show synopsis in 3 beats:
1. hilarity
2. badassery
3. perilous brass bear positioning
huge props to phoebe whose exuberant fandom was such that it brought change to the set list! in place of the scheduled dancefloors, they played her request, highly suspicious!
THANK YOU to everyone who made this a terrific time! i loved the edgefield before today, and now my crush has deepened. vespa, matthew, phoebe, rizzo, rizzo's girl, le barba de castro, wizzard: you kids bring the quality to the neighborhood. hope to see you all real soon!
just realized we missed you, lucylew! :-\
woo hoo!
we were right up front on carl's side for the show. my voice is shot today. such a great experience. many of the new songs sounded even better live. loved the victory dance > citcuital opening. it seemed like you want to freak out was a challenge to the crowd. you want to freak out? well take these 10 songs and have at it. that was when the show really took off for me. steam engine was the one song i really wanted and the boys came through. just when it looked like they were pulling that to a close, it went through the roof. the run thru > mahgeetah was just incredible! i was not expecting mahgeetah to follow and the jam/badassery was full on. and what a surprise war begun! i had not been checking set lists, so was unaware that rare gems were being hauled out. that was so special.
everyone killed it last night, especially carl. too bad the sun didn't go down til 9, as a lot of the light show was lost on us. damn these northwest summers!
what did the rest of you think?

DAMN IT!!! That's where Dancefloors went! As much as I may bag on Highly Suspicious, it was a great time live. Wife said it was like they were trying to prove how awesome that song can be.
From now on I'm carrying a "Play Dondante" sign to every MMJ show I attend. Maybe I'll get a really big sign and make an entire set list!
hey rizzo & r.g: thank your brother & sister-in-law again for the post-show tater tots. the arrival of those snacks will live in legend!

It helps to be a cute 9 year old who misspelled "Higly".
;)
that song will forever more be "higly suspicious."

I, for one, am looking forward to the next chance to scream "Higly Suspicious!"

what do i think??
what's a keyfur?
Many thanks for those tater tots! Tots should now be a standard post-Jacket show event.
We are currently researching our tater-tot options in the Red Rocks area - if you need a little more incentive to make the show ms. yvon & la barba. Reliving the shows through your recaps from those detailed notes you took. What on earth would we have done if your pen didn't get saved in Seattle? Both of us are struggling to turn off our MMJ post-show Brains and focus on our real life.
All I want to know is why weren't we offered to touch the golden bear?
Please tell me that some industrious person taped this show, and then immediately let me know where I can find a copy..
..please ;)

THIS!
sadly, i did not see any taping set ups in the crowd. rain was forecasted and maybe the tapers did not want to risk their equipment. one can hope, tho.
if you don't have it the edgefield show from 2008 is on archive and really kicks ass! been trying to relive tuesday by listening to it for a few days.
hopefully some virtuous patience will pay off.
Just coming down from my 2 and a half hours of perfect happiness at the Edgefield show. I can't imagine a better venue for my first MMJ concert...such great vibes from everyone; and I was right up front. Sorry I didn't get to meet my fellow MMJ Fanatics, it would've been a hoot! What a great show. I was totally in the zone. Think of all the joy this band spreads all over the country and the world. Positive Energy! Okay..I needed it, that's for sure. I received and now I want MORE.
This is great and I don't think posted yet.
