My sister lives here, and theres a show here. Seth where you at?!!! I'll see ya here
just woke up!! haha...worked last night. it looked awesome for a minute...until i got the e-mail saying it's not a confirmed date...hopefully they will confirm it bc i am going to alpharetta and charlotte the next two nights! that would have been great
This would be an amazing show at a great venue!! Please make it happen, the fine folks of Tuscaloosa would certainly appreciate it with all they've been through recently.
Peace thru music,
Unravelled
I hope it gets confirmed, too! The past month and a half have been so hard on all of us, and we need to ROCK OUT. It could be a great way to bring people to town and spend some cash to support our city and local businesses. Please, universe, make this happen.
If this happens, y'all are welcome to throw down at The Pine Palace (my house). It's gonna be awesome (I hope)!
I am 99.32% sure this is confirmed.
Love playing the odds....was hoping something would be announced by now since I keep checking my email for any new show announcements!
Patience is a virtue...never said I was virtuous!
Roll call, y'all. Get those fine asses down here to rock out and support a great cause!
There!
With Neko Case?? Gotta get a sit-in!
woohoo!!! hell yea
oh, i'll be there. With six of my rolldawgs.
woooooooohooooooo! im in :D :D :D
This is going to be my moms my dads both my sisters and both my brother in laws first shows. I'm planning on this followed by Atlanta. Woooo
Any word on when/if there is a Roll Call sale for this one?
haven't heard yet...fingers r crossed though

Once again the boys show how generous they are...
I'm pretty sure this is going to be my moms first rock and roll concert since Woodstock. She loves George Michael and Cindy Lauper and thats about it, so when she said she loved the new MMJ album, I knew this had to happen.

No doubt. Kills me to miss this.
Anyone ever been to a show at this venue? Cause i got a couple questions:
Does anyone know if this is going to be a full MMJ show? The real deal? I ask bc the T.A. website lists the showtime as 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. I'm concerned as that's barely enough time for a normal Jacket show, much less 3 bands! I wonder if they just put that up just to give us an idea...the only issue with this thought is that the Steely Dan show is listed as 8 p.m.-12 a.m. Why even put up an end time if they aren't going to stick to it?
T.A. seating chart on the website has seating listed all over. However, under general info it says that the "lower bowl" is opened up sometimes for general admission. I assume the lower bowl is the area right in front of the stage (per the site's pics). Can anyone confirm this? If i can spend 30 bucks, get in close and rock out vs $50 bucks to sit in the back, I'll take the standing-only section every time.
haven't been but know a bunch of people that saw the avetts and boh. since that show and kenny chesney r the only two shows there not too many people have seen it. to answer your questions though...yes it's a full show. mmj doesn't put on half shows. i'm sure the times are just a reference. it might be like 22 songs instead or 24 or something like that but should be about the same. not sure about a curfew but the venue isn't in the middle of town so hopefully they can play til whenever. not sure if they are gonna do a pit and was really freakin out about being able to get real close until i got my roll call email saying they r doing a presale. they didn't do a pit for the avetts but who knows about this thing

i think this needs to happen...u can load up in my trunk the next morning and go to atlanta and charlotte with us...think of it as jacketfest south
not talking about a car trunk either...i still like to travel with a large wooden trunk...keeps everything very fresh
I'm thinking about catching this show, I have a lot of friends at university of Alabama, but it is the night before the Atlanta show and I'm thinking about catching charlotte too so we will see. I'm from Athens GA and I'm pretty sure Phosphorescent is an athens band...anyone know without me having to google it?
he's definitely from alabama...maybe the huntsville area. probably went to athens to get started...all the good ones usually do

Glad to see y'all are excited about the show! Our amphitheatre is awesome. It's brand-new. I saw BOH & The Avett Bros back in April, and was really impressed with how cool the venue is. If you're worried about parking, you can do what we did last time--park for free in the city garage downtown and then take the shuttle to the amphitheatre.
As far as the curfew, it's no longer in effect.

pit tix...gonna be nice seeing the boys at home
so is it a glitch in the system cause i thought u could only order 2 tix at a time? i got it to let me buy 4...we are going 7 deep so we have to wait til friday to order so we all get stuck together if the GA seats are gone by then....but is it so? can you really add up to 4 tix? if so, this would have saved us some waiting...im impatient.
it says 4 on the roll call welcome page now...i didnt need but two so i didn't try four...i'm pretty sure the ga seats won't be gone by friday...if you look at the seating chart the whole lower section is gonna be ga pit...assuming you buy them when they go on sale friday you shouldn't have a problem
i never noticed! well we could have saved some worries and signed my bro up last night and never have to worry about it....i agree though, ga should be around til then and we will be orderin when they go on sale. well i plan on seeing you freaks there. i will be in the parking lot sellin overpriced grilled cheese if anyone wants to stop by...ha

best grilled cheese i ever ate was right after mmj in 06 at bonnaroo on the way back to our rv...got it from some hippie on shakedown street cooking on a foreman...it was drenched in marinara sauce...never had it before then or after...probably never will...but i will never forget the best grilled cheese i ever ate
Oh yeah, we're locked in for GA!
Gonna be at Red Rocks on the 4th and Tuscaloosa on the 19th. Two Jacket shows in a month. If I'm dreaming, someone's catching hell if they wake me up.
the quality of grilled cheeses these days really makes me sick...kraft singles?? its all about a good quality cheese and i will show you what im talking about come t-town.
splat, thats the best news ive heard all day. glad we could get our shit together. now join the gd roll call and get legit.
RR>tuscaloosa....who is coming with me?
Got row A in section 203 this morning. You all have fun in the 2,874 person pit (with the additional 461 people that get tickets/armbands passed back to them)...
thanks man! dont stop by my grilled cheese stand...no grilled cheese for haters....kidding but i will be sure to bring my hater blockers.

Ugh. I am really struggling with trying to make this happen. I love the idea of the benefit show. It could be real cool with it being their first time there, but then again it could go the other way. The amount of brosephs that will be there might set a new record. Sticky would be in heaven. ;D

It's not about the seat itself, brah. It's about owning my own 2x2' chunk of concrete and knowing that it will still be there when I get back if I choose to make a beer run. It also helps prevent elbows in the back as well as cigarette burns in my t-shirt by the people that decided 2 hours into the show that they suddenly deserve to be closer than me (these are likely the same people mentioned in Jon T.'s post above).

Yeah, Jon, I made that up. I love being close, but sometimes it's nice to know that you have a reserved plot all your own. Plus, it gives a much better perspective of the light show. I was second row at the Palace, so I'm gonna sit back and let the kiddies fight this one out...
I hope that you can make it. If you do, you've got a free beer coming to you.

i'm doing t-town, alpharetta, and charlotte...my roommate and i are gonna have us a little tour of the south. we got tickets to alpharetta and charlotte right when i could get them off the roll call just to be able to take a road trip this summer without the women, so the t-town show is honestly just a big bonus(it feels like they just landed in my lap or something in coming to tuscaloosa) and of course you can join tyler...i didn't know you were gonna be there or i would have already said something...if you r there i would expect nothing less than you being up on the rail or real close by...as this gets closer we need to start discussing what time we want to get there and all that so we can stand in line to get in together and make that process much better...i can't wait til August!!!

Thanks mom for buying 7 tickets to this so we can have our first family trip to the jacket!
I'm heading down to this one from TN. I always need a reason to take off work in August. This is mine for this year. When would be the best time to line up to get up front in the pit? August in Tuscaloosa has got to be killer so I don't want to hang out there any longer than necessary.
There are lots of restaurants and bars Downtown--just a few blocks away from the Amphitheatre. My favorite bars are Gnemi's and Wilhagen's. Mellow Mushroom has some delicious noms, but I also suggest The Brickhouse Restaurant or DePalma's.
It is going to be hotter than hell in August. If you wanted to be front and center (like me, lol) I would say get in line like an hour or two before the show. That's what I am planning on doing, at least.
Less than 2 months away!
:)
There is a researcher (I work at an archives) who came in today and she is a professor from Tuscaloosa. She's told me all about the destruction and the rebuilding and how she's still very emotional about everything. It's so interesting to hear, but I'm resisting the urge as a professional person to NOT be all like: "Myfavoritestbandinthewholeworldisplayingabenefitshowandyoushouldgobecausethey'reaamaaaaaaazing!" ::)
my parents, sister, and brother in law got row N 15-18 seats, and my brother and i got pit tickets. guess i'll see you guys on the rail
Everyone, please come to this show. Not only do you get to see the greatest band in the world play in a brand-new, riverside amphitheatre but you get to help out the United Way of West AL--which has been vital in recovery efforts here in T-town.
I know some people may be thinking, "That storm was, like, 2 months ago, so it's fine by now." The sad thing is--it's not. I mean, we're working to rebuild, but there was so much devastation. I drove through my old neighborhood yesterday, and it looked as if the tornado had just come by a few days ago. There are still people displaced and looking for homes. It's awesome that we are rebuilding and moving toward a better tomorrow, but we still need all the help we can get.
So... buy some tickets. Come on down. Rock out. Forum peeps are welcome to stay at my place. Please come out and support Tuscaloosa! Love y'all.

Oh what the hell, I'm in! ;D
Seriously, this is really awesome of the band. I can say that their support for the United Way was without a doubt the determining factor in our decision to go. Tuscaloosa is very dear to my wife's heart. Both her and her father went to school at UA. Her mother and grandmother were raised and grew up there (Northport).

Thanks, I am hoping that I can talk my husband into getting there early. He hates the heat and really doesn't get into going to shows like I do. I think if I can convince him to drop me off and then I'll meet him later. I still haven't told him that I bought standing room only tickets. Oops. ::) I'm glad the show is a benefit for the tornado relief efforts. I've got friends in UA (Upper Alabama) whose kids' entire school blew away. They ended up canceling school for the rest of the year. It still looks like a warzone just one neighborhood over from where she lives. It will take a long time for recovery for this state.
I'm in too! Well, I bought a ticket anyway. Hope I can make it, and if I do I'll see you at the front of the line, Meg!

as heard in my head upon first glance:
Come gather 'round Jacketeers
From wherever you call home
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched like a snow cone
If your money is wastin' in savings
So you better be spendin'
Or you'll sink like a Pakistani drone
For the band it is a comin' to Tuscaloosaaa ... ::)
Where to Begin would be too perfect at this bitter sweet (but sweeter than bitter) river-front ritual. If the powers that be are listening, those in the Tuscaloosa region could really use this song come August.
My head takes a lickin' but my heart keeps on tickin' just the same
Always startin' over, but somehow I always know where to begin
;)
I agree. If they play "Where to Begin," I'll be the redhead on the rail that's crying like a baby.
Tuscaloosa will rise again! This is going to be an epic show! This will be my fourth show and I cant wait. Still just as excited as my first time. Greetings from New Orleans everybody!
Give me Butch or give me death.
This will be my first MMJ show! I was going to the Atlanta show but I checked the forum one day and saw the rumor thread about a Tuscaloosa show and decided to hold out. I'm in Birmingham so TTown is a lot closer than Atlanta for me.
My friend at work and I think 10 other people are going so we're showing up waaaaayyy early and tailgating this thing! We're raising the Circuital flag and grilling out and playing MMJ!

I really hope they keep throwing these setlist change-ups come final leg of the tour too!
rollin back is on my most wanted list, they never play it.
I honestly don't know why they don't switch out more tunes than they do.
Dear MMJ, please play the following in Tuscaloosa on August 19th:
Rolling Back
Strangulation
Honest Man
I Think I'm Going To Hell
Evelyn Is Not Real
That is all. Thank you.
hahahaaha...i feel ya on that one...thats worth the price of admission right there. while we are at it...mmj, if you play those songs, drinks are on me after the show hah.

I'm stuck on wondering how long of a Jacket set we will get...I love Phosphorescent, so I won't be disappointed either way.
It'd be mighty neat if they all came out together for an encore.
I'd guess we'll get the standard two hour set (maybe a bit less). Another factor would be Tuscaloosa's curfew, which hopefully will be late as this is on a Friday Night.
Guessing Here:
Phosphorescent goes on from 730 to 815.
Neko Case goes on from 835 to 920.
MMJ from 945 to 11:30 or 12:00 or 1:00 or 3:00.

3 acts- with one considerably major one- only being allotted 3 hours on a Friday night in a college town seems kinda strange to me.
That'd be mighty fine if CC could help us out :)
there's definitely no curfew...i figure the time slots are just a reference...i really don't see them taking much off their set...phosphorescent and neko hopefully will be a lil bit shorter...maybe i'm a little more optimistic considering this is my first night of three...between t-town, the atl, and charlotte hopefully we will get some epic rarities...atlanta is notorious for getting some rare songs...surely evelyn and the bear will be played at some point on this little run...I would lose my shit if they busted out some Into the Woods in T-town...really love this gem and would love to start seeing it on some more setlists here and there...really never have figured out why they don't play it as much. I would take it over highly suspicious any day... my 2 cents anyway...been real busy lately and unable to check the boards as much as i would like. nice to see everyone is still doing well
looks like Ticketmaster says the show starts at 8PM, whereas the amphitheater website says 7PM.
That may suggest that the amph. site has a stock time slot slapped on there b/c they don't know how long it will last???
In any case - 26 DAYS
and countingQuote...atlanta is notorious for getting some rare songs...surely evelyn and the bear will be played at some point on this little run...
^fingers double crossed^

Does that mean that 8:00 is the correct starting time?
I'm thinking of coming out Thursday night and spending the day Friday (and maybe part of the day Saturday) volunteering with some sort of rebuilding effort... Anyone have any suggestions on how to find a group to volunteer with?

In light of recent developments, I stand by my earlier "guess" post:
Quote from: SplatSplatSplat on Jul 21, 2011, 10:44 AM
I'd guess we'll get the standard two hour set (maybe a bit less). Another factor would be Tuscaloosa's curfew, which hopefully will be late as this is on a Friday Night.
Guessing Here:
Phosphorescent goes on from 730 to 815.
Neko Case goes on from 835 to 920.
MMJ from 945 to 11:30 or 12:00 or 1:00 or 3:00.
Yeah I can see 40 minutes for Neko, an hour for Phos, and just over 2 hours for MMJ. Who knows. All I know is that in short festival sets he usually doesn't break out the acoustic guitar, and if he doesn't play Wonderful my mom will be heartbroken.

Give Temporary Emergency Services a call. They can always use volunteers. Their number is (205) 758-5535.
http://www.temporaryemergencyservice.org/ (http://www.temporaryemergencyservice.org/)
You can also log your volunteer hours with the city. Helps us get get more $$ from FEMA. Here's a link for more info:

Thanks for being willing to help us out. You rock!

I know how you mean and see where you're coming from, but Phosphorescent is a GREAT live act (and they are from the region.) They were one of my favorite shows at Bonnaroo.

Meant NOTHING negative towards Phosphorescent with my post.

Still time to get your tickets for the show! How often do you get a chance to rock out for a great cause? The United Way is doing a lot to help the long-term relief efforts we need in Tuscaloosa. Hard to believe it's been 100 days since the storm hit...

Is there somewhere close with a decent selection of draft brews? Meg? Anyone?
Edit: It looks like there's a Mellow Mushroom about a half mile away. They always have a good selection of beer and their pizza is great if you're into that whole eating thing.
I can do MM if we get in town in time. I know darkglow would probably prefer a Buffalo Wild Wings, but that's another story. :-X ;D
lol JT i just now noticed this.. Mellow Mushroom is pretty good but a little expensive for my tastes.. i bought a medium pizza with a sweet tea and 2 local draft beers and it was 40 bucks last weekend.. i'll probably try to find some type of diner on the way into town to gorge myself on and hope to meet up with some of you folks at a watering hole close to the venue

My sentiments exactly. I hope we get a set with some deep cuts. I've been anticipating this since 'roo. I may try to make the Georgia show on Saturday night.
Super excited about this show, as well as the ATL one the night after. Got row A for this show - glad to have my 2x2 square of concrete as well - and am following it up with pit tix for alpharetta. Should be a good mix. Got 2 extra pit tix for alpharetta if anyone's interested.
Ten days...
:D
I was planning on basically coming in town and straigt to the show. I just got the whole day freed up for me and I'll be in with time to spare.

I think Mellow Mushroom makes the most sense. Good location, good atmosphere, good beer, good pie. I wish there was something a little more "local", but so be it. I'm open to anything, though.
Allow me to suggest Wilhagen's. It's an awesome local bar. It's, like, a block away from Mellow Mushroom. Great beer selection. Great food. Open patio. Only a few blocks away from the free parking garage downtown and it's a quick walk to the Amphitheatre, too.
When is a good time to show up to get as close to the stage as possible. My friend and I were thinking around 4. I know that wouldn't put us at the front of the line cause of the hardcore people showing up way earlier. But what do you guys think about getting there at 4? We have GA and I want to be at least in the first few rows of standing room.

I don't even wanna see the MPP setlist tomorrow, it's gonna drive me up the walls...
P.S. Ranman, I think I'm going to show up around 3 or 4 too in order to ensure a proper buzz. It's gonna be a long time standin' me thinks.

Man, tell me about it. The only comfort I had after getting my face rocked at RR was the prospect of another show in less than two weeks. Dunno what i'm gonna do after Tuscaloosa.
Also, based off the rather exciting songs they've been throwing out lately, the MPP setlist is probably gonna be fit inducing for all of us who can't go.
i just have to find a way to sneak out of work as soon as possible on friday.. it's a 4.5 hour drive up from here and i'm shooting to arrive around 4:30 as of right now. hopefully snaking out at around 11am will be no problem
I cannot wait! :D Well, I guess I'll have to wait, but still. I am so excited. Thanks for the info about the parking garage. I'm meeting up with a friend who is coming from Memphis. We've had a break in the heat this past week. I hope that Tuscaloosa has a little break too. But if not, fine with me. Jim's voice makes me a little hot anyway!
it's this week!!!
:'( :'( :'(SUPER SADFACE! I have just been informed of a work thing I have to do and can't go to the show! I have awesome seats too - bought them on RollCall presale - sect. 203 row A, front row center behind pit. Anyone interested please PM me - I'm just trying to get my money back - no profit - selling for face! Only kicker is that since i bought them on rollcall, i have to be the one to pick them up at willcall, so i'll meet you the day of the show an hour before (as soon as willcall box opens) to do the exchange. Y'all have fun - I know this is going to be an awesome show - at least I'll get to see the ATL show the next night! I also have an extra pit ticket to that show if anyone's interested - one of our buddies had to back out. Again - no profit - just face! And have an extra parking pass to that show that I can give to the extra ticket holder.
SO CLOSE!

I get that vibe too, especially in some of the earlier albums. Bonnaroo this year was my first time seeing them, and they really bring the ethereal "it" when it comes to performing live.
If willsfc can generously swing it, an AUD of Phos would be most sweet!

I'm in southern middle TN. We are going to go through Muscle Shoals on our trip and tour studios. I think we are hitting Tuscumbia too on this trip. I've got a friend there who may go with us after he takes us to Helen Keller's house.
Any idea what time the boys have been getting on stage? Show starts at 7 so just curious, sorry if this has been asked before
Gates open at 7; I'd say the boys should be on by 9:30-ish?
THREE MORE DAYS, MOTHERDUCKERS. I can't wait. I need this so bad!
i *might* attempt to stream MMJ audio from our mics.. we'll see how it goes.
Can I just mention how much better it is going to work this week knowing that I'm taking Friday off to drive down to Tuscaloosa. I feel like I'm in an altered state at work. It's just a supremely righteous feeling. I also wore my hippie skirt to work today. It's a survivor of three bonnaroos.

Million dollar question. Based on what time the setlists have been showing up, it looks like they have been finishing up fairly early. It might be wishful thinking, but given the reason for the show tomorrow, I'm really expecting/hoping for something extra special. I know this is a suuuuuper stretch but the possiblity of a solo "All Things Must Pass" has crossed my mind.
Weather looks like it might not be too bad. Small chance of afternoon storms but humidity looks like it'll be tolerable.

TIX PURCHASED 8)
I'm glad that I could convince you. ;D
Did you go with the 203 Row A's?
Yup. Seats 21-22.
Sweet. I think I sat right next to you with my wife and 6 year old daughter. I pointed out the train running behind the stage during steam engine!!!
Great show and here in my hometown, finally, after years of hardcore roadie bus travels and taxis and horse carriages - finally 15 minutes from the house instead of taking days off work and whatnot.

very cool!
(ps --love the profile pic............i remember winning a clock like that at the boardwalk when i was like 7)
neck hurts. back hurts. everything hurts hurts.
distortion into steam engine took on a by my car kind of jam very shortly, the transition into movin away sounded incredible, and the whole band sounded so tight last night. The other two openers definitely cut into the set, but hey it's all for a good cause!
I haven't seen a show since Bonnaroo, and the new tunes sounded worlds better. Oh and stop draggin with Carl soloing on top of it really was a treat. They also slowed down Black Metal and First Light and really soaked them in.
The whole rail was having a great time, and Jim especially showed a lot of love back to the audience. I've never seen him smile so much. A great crew and a great time!!! Now coffee, and then to the Alpharetta
Right behind you. Whole body hurts from getting rocked. Great show. Just ate some breakfast at Rama jamas and headed to Alpharetta.

yes it did!
Ey Penny! I'm like you guys, sore as all hell! Humidity and whatnot (lots of whatnot) was dehydrating my ass out there but we kept it real and rocked out like the champs we are.
Big thanks to the Greeks for the random beer showering, by the way -

I feel so unproductive today. I am ready to rock.
BTW: If anyone wants to say hi, I'll be out with my radio station in front of the amp entrance around 6 or so. It's the station that starts with a B. ;)
I didn't see this until now. Were you a tall guy in a red tshirt with glasses handing out magnets? I talked to that guy. We were the two women from tn. One short and really fit, the other taller and not fit (me).

Not only the random beer throwing, but also the 8ft drunk guy who somehow squeezed in front of me and couldn't get any closer. Then he preceeded to either talk to his friend or just be a total douche for the rest of the night. I finally got so disgusted that I left and moved much further back. Drunk 19yr olds who don't really want to see the show can ruin it for the ones who do.
Man, that was just what I needed... We met Rowan and his friend at Wilhagen's beforehand and had great time shooting the shit. Our bill came and my wife says it looks like they didn't charge us for any alcohol... I'm like, no that doesn't happen. I remembered him saying he would buy me a beer if I went so I'm thinking to myself if he picked up this tab.... I tell our server she didn't charge us and she confirms that "someone" took care of it. So, thanks again for that!
Some thoughts on the show... First, that amphitheater is gorgeous. What an asset for Tuscaloosa. I wish the dipshit fratboy that walked by saying, "this place is going to burn to the ground" realized that. Phosphorescent was awesome. I'd love to see them play their own show. We went to go get a couple more beers toward the end of the set and ran into Rowan again. We were having a good time shooting the shit so we hung out there all through Neko's set (we could still hear her).
We get to our seats right at 945 and perfect timing. The show was incredible, sound was perfect and the place was bumping. That pit was feeling it and it was a huuuuge pit. Tons of people down there. I never looked behind me so, I'm not sure how the reaction up there was. If it was anything like mine, that place had to have been going nuts. Sorry if I was annoying to anyone, but I was definitely "in the zone" and rocked it from start to finish. I "think" I respected my personal space bubble.
A couple other thoughts... Patrick looked like he might have been sick still. Anyone else notice? He looked at one point like he was leaning over his kit like he was just exhausted. And another time looked like he might have thrown up? Curious if anyone else can confirm. You couldn't tell by his playing though.
Setlist... surprised to not get any real rarities, but not disappointed in the least. I did a pretty good job of avoiding the setlists prior to. Just kind of scanned them for the rarities but ignored the rest. Steam Engine was worth the price alone. Jim has some serious swagger on that stage. Big time. He acknowleged the crowd, "best fucking crowd we've played for in a long time". Everyone here knows he doesn't really throw that around. Also, being a big Outkast fan, I loved his "hootie hoo, Tuscaloosa" after their encore break. I think that's it. Oh, Jim's voice sounded great. One crack during Gideon, but that's it. When has his voice ever not cracked at least once? IMO, that's part of the beauty of it.
All in all, a great time as always. Can't wait until next time!

No; that was another station. My station was the one handing out fans. I was the unbearably attractive redhead with glasses in a pink halter dress. LOL.
I had a great time at the show. That version of "Steam Engine" blew my mind. Loved the show poster, too. I will post a pic of it soon. It's adorable.
Pooch was totally representing Friday night. He was in a houndstooth hat (a la Bear Bryant) and a United Way tee with a Crimson tie. Awesome.
I'm glad I got to see you again, Jon. Hope you enjoyed your time in the City of Champions!
Until next time, Jon T.!
