6? Are you sure WF? The Vevo schedule says it's 8:15 Eastern. Is it the daylight savings screwing me up?

I don't think that schedule is correct. The bonnaroo schedule says MMJ at 8PM and I'm assuming that's central because, well bonnaroo is in the central time zone, but I may be wrong...
Also the VEVO schedule has Arcade Fire on Saturday night...
We need to get to the bottom of this... QUICK ;D
I am not gonna get too excited about this until I tune in and see if the stream is better than the Unstaged fiasco.I hope it is.

no, I'm not sure. Just going off the person who posted that it was 8 CDT, which would be 6 out here. Hope I'm not confusing things more.

just FYI for the folks.....
i watched the live stream from Louisville the other day and it was flawless. If you have trouble with lag or delayed connection, try a wired connection, as in, not wireless.....it might be better for you.
oh yeah, THIS IS BADASS. Can't make it to the Roo this year, so this will work out perfect. Thanks to whoever :)
well howdy dooo. pumped for this. this is pretty ultimate. the bonnaroo is most certainly in the lands of central time.
bonus after bonus after bonus
so spoiled by this band! and a friday night to boot! can't wait for it kids!
i hope it's more than the two hours the vevo page says. either way it's gonna be great.
Three weeks in a row of live streams? How lucky are we?
Brewing up a big batch of white wine sangria to go along with the viewing. Nom.
After watching the Unstaged and the Mountain Jam livestreams, I had that tired, happy feeling like I got from attending the Lexington show. I am so stoked that these other shows are online!
Dang I have to miss this tonight! Any chance of watching this later? What about Mountain Jam?
Also, do you guys recommend purchasing any of the "Live from Bonnaroo" DVDs featuring MMJ from past years?
Thanks.

Um, white sangria??? I am a die hard red wine girl, and I make red sangria - was planning to do so tomorrow for a bbq. But do tell what recipe do you use for blanco? Is it simply using white instead of red? Do you use different kind of fruit than you would in red. TELL ME I MUST KNOW!!!!!! ;D

Good thing I don't have a (social)life, so my Friday and Saturday nights are usually free and usually filled with MMJ.

This is one of my favorite recipes, Vespa. Hope you find it as yummy. Also, I play around with how much sugar I put in and usually add extra fruit like raspberries and sometimes a little bit of pineapple juice.
•1 Bottle of white wine
•1/2 cup Peach Schnapps
•1/4 to 1/2 cup sugar
•2 sliced peaches (can be frozen)
•1 sliced orange
•1/2 mango peeled and sliced
•1/2 liter of ginger ale

I have no complaints about Vevo's job with the Louisville show. I'm sure 10x if not 100x the people are trying to watch this.

Yea, the louisville stream was perfect for me. These shows aren't even live though... I think Vevo is only showing two shows that are actually live this weekend, MMJ and WSP... So we're probably going to be royally fucked.
I had huge problems on L'ville show that night, but mtn jam was perfect. Here's a couple questions if anyone knows...
Does it use more band with to view a show in full screen, ie can it cause more skips and pauses etc than using the small screen version?
Since MMJ is the last to be webcast and it ends at 1015 are they gonna replay this stuff? I got to work till 10 EDT so im gonna miss the beginning hour.
Stream is great now....

I dont drink sangria (although this sounds tasty), but I really gotta ask, how does one correctly slice a mango?! I love mangoes, but I havent figured out how the hell to cut it up. Ive just resorted to peeling them and eating it like an apple because its a pain in the ass to try and cut the fruit off the irregularly shaped awkward ass core they have. I have hope you have a solution to my mango troubles.

The best way is to leave it peeled, cut it in half and cut away all the hard parts that you don't want to eat. Then holding a half in the palm of your hand, cut the fruit into squares without cutting through the peel. Then push the skin so the fruit is inside-out and cut the squares away.
Oh yeah, the stream, WOOOO!
just got called off of work from 7 to 11 tonight so i will actually be able to enjoy the stream...had to work during mt. jam last week and it was going good for about 30 minutes then i had to admit a really sick kid and was really busy the rest of the night...e_wind's sister and i watched off the record together before she left for the day and i got really busy...it was pretty cool..btw eric she told me she really wants to go to the ttown show...by the sound of her voice you better make it happen. i felt kind of bad walking over to my laptop everytime i would get a second or two to chill out but i have kind of figured out that mmj helps me get thru my job better than anything else. plus it's funny when a kid is listening to the bieber or something like that and i grab an mmj cd and let him hear it...had a 5 year old straight rockin' out to magheetah one night...it was priceless...

I know the flecktones are there so that means Jeff Coffin ala Nashville Horns I could see popping in for a minute. plus, he's a fucking amazing sax player. anybody else tho? haven't really looked at the line up.

shouldn't a mang look like an octagon or something with the seeds forming a ring shape? or am I thinking of a kiwi?

no doubt, man. Its bonnaroo, we all know something crazy is gonna go down, what it is, we wont know for like 3 hours.
Im hoping what makes their set crazy is they kind of play a reverse catalog type set, not totally in order though, but so they get to At Dawn around 520am tomorrow morning when the sun is rising to close their epic show

no doubt, man. Its bonnaroo, we all know something crazy is gonna go down, what it is, we wont know for like 3 hours.

if it wasn't for arcade fire cockblocking their set I wouldn't be surprised if MMJ T5'd bonnaroo with their headline set or something that nuts. I listened to Circuital earlier today thinking about bonnaroo and it feels like the album was fucking made for this particular show. they started at bonnaroo as nobodies almost a decade ago and now they've finally reached the main stage. shits gonna be tiiight.

you think those arcades on fire hipsters are going to kick them off the stage 2 hours in?! hell no. The Jacket will leave the stage when their business is done and they feel like it.
hope you're right and they play 3hours.
It was "return to thunderdome" which summarizes my MMJ/Bonnaroo experience. Now I'm 32 and watching it from home.
Whatever... So glad it's an option
why do i hear the faint sound of victory dance from the webcast?

I'm sorry my sangria talk caused a crazy mango side conversation. They also make mango cutters, scotty. They're worth the investment, it cuts right around that pesky seed.
seems odd that they would play that tho... but i suppose bonnaroo doesnt have the rights to broadcast whatever tunes mmj play preshow.
they are probably going to put them on right at 9:15
evidently the front row has never heard Circuital
Drink every time you see a trucker hat...
This is strange.
i was thinking we r listening to em live now and they would be on a 15 minute delay so it will start back over with audio and video at 8:15...why would they be playing the hangout?

Great stream and sound now. That Photo Pitt looks fucking huge. ???
Yeah, sound is too low for me as well -- but I plugged my earpbuds in, that kinda helps. I can hear a little more clearly and at least it blocks out all the other noise from my house, ya dig
Now it's totally frozen >:(
yea firefox was crapping the bed for me. so i switched to ie. much better

I think Jim's boots are absorbing all the sound...
Carl's mic is still turned way up it seems to me.
sounds a LOT better now but Carl's vocals still way too prominent. I sure hope it wasn't that off balance at the show for VD, Victory Dance that is, not the other kind of VD! Both kind of sneak up on you though, and end in a slow scratching burn.
Mine has been fine expect right at the beginning.
So I didn't get a chance to check the whole thread yet-- but did any of you guys start thinking about what covers they might play tonight?
Gotta say I'm a little bummed that Arcade Fire is going on the same stage at 11 pm tonight, cause it means that we don't get another face-melting four hour set from them this time around...however, I already have to pee and will probably need some snacks halfway through this, so maybe the time limit's a good thing!
seems much better all of a sudden ?
Dude Audio & Video = Perfect. Awesome :D :D :D
Man sorry for all the problems! I guess I'm lucky. Both Louisville and this are hitchless with my headphones. Vid is perfect. As for the sound, they are sorting it out. The mix is improving by the minute.
Safari is handling it fine for me. Not sure why you're having bad luck, The Dark. As awesome as it is to have this on, it's a little taxing with the audio problems.
And, it's gotta be so hot playing and singing with all those layers, the coat, and the stellar boots. Tons of photographers.....that is a big empty area now.
is that the vip section in the very frontt? big ass pit. they had carl's mic way up too high in 2008 as well. listen to evil urges from the xm stream recording of that show
It's getting better. Video is sweet and that gutteral yell from Jim just came through perfectly....

Anytime sounds great! Sound problems fixed. This is phenomenal. I remember big concerts like the Tibetan Freedom shows, etc from years ago, you could only hope MTV would show a 10 second clip. And it wouldn't be live. You'd never know when it would be on. Thanks internet and vevo!

His name is Clint Maedgen, I used to be friends with him.
He plays in The New Orleans BINGO show, Liquidrone, and played on some of the Morning 40 Federation albums ( as well as live).
He used to work at the Ferdie Mart or still does.
He lives in Lee Harvey Oslwalds House in New Orleans.
I saw Mark Braud and Ben Jaffe too...and the bass drummer of course. I think they're all there.
fuckin' kick ass show...once again no need for encore...man...they r bringin' it on this tour, get ready

My thoughts exactly. This is obviously the more high-profile slot, but...
Victory Dance
Circuital
Off the Record
Gideon
Anytime
First Light
Mahgeetah
Outta My System
Golden
You Wanna Freak Out
I'm Amazed
Slow Slow Tune
Steam Engine
Smokin From Shootin -> Run Thru
Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Part II
Wordless Chorus
Holdin on to Black Metal
Highly Suspicious (PHJB)
Dancefloors (PHJB)
One Big Holiday
I think this covers it...

True, can't compete with the epicness of Bonnaroo '06 (or '04 or '08, though I wasn't there for those) in a strict time slot.
Dont mean to complain but i'd much rather them play a late night show on a smaller stage than open for a band on the main stage....
from my brief but observant festival experience.. the second to last show of each night is always the "headliner" in my eyes.. no matter who plays last..
think of it this way.. you see a band like MMJ and you think "how can that be topped? it cant" and you watch the main act for an hour or so and go back and party/get some rest afterwards.
it was like this at hangout :
Friday night - MMJ
Saturday night - Flaming Lips
Sunday night - Black Keys

No Phone Went West or Heartbreakin man either.
Mountain jam def was the best of the three so far.
I dont want to complain either, cause trust me I would see them a thousand times more regardless...but I.m a little bummed at the repetitive set list? I mean pretty much exact to Mountain Jam? I expected more from this tour, especially after T5... I thought they would play a bunch of songs that weren't played a lot in past tours? Whatever...still best band in the world

I kinda expect similar setlists for fests. They're not playing to just a "Jacket" crowd, so they have to try and get everyone into it,and grab some new fans along the way, imo.
As much as we'd love a Butch Cassidy,Evelyn, or I Think I'm Goin To Hell, I'm not sure they'd go over well with crowds who've never seen them.

Heeeellll yeah. I was there! It was fantasmenomenal. ;)
Granted, Mt. Jam had 5 more songs (Day is Coming, PWW, Heartbreakin', It Beats 4 U, Carnival Time), but also 30 more minutes of stage time.
Some of tonight's performances were electric.
I will always leave a live (or webcast) performance wanting more.
Setlists were quite repetitive when the kicked of their tour in 2010. Expect more diversity in July and August.
Good time, though I think I've seen enough of the boots.
I dont see how its possible for steam engine to get better and better everytime they play it, but it obviously is. that was sick. :D
That was a unbelievable show, wish i would have been at the Roo and the Mt. Jam! I still wouldn' t trade my Wakarusa set though, I love me some Lay Low! Like i said unbelievable show, but missing Lay Low and Phone Went West!

Eric is wise beyond his years. Festivals are always a blast but for a kick-ass diet of "so cool that they played that one", I think we got a better shot at a dedicated mmj show. Will report back after Red Rocks & Merriweather Post. ;)
I hope there's some rest soon for JJ's voice, sounds like their schedule is catching up with his vocal cords!

I'd tend to agree, but as MR. YYac said the setlsts at the begining of the tour last year were a bit static at first, and loosened up as the tour went on.
Hopefully they enjoyed playing their whole catalog at T5 as much as we enjoyed witnessing it, and they'll want to vary their sets because of it.
I think getting PWW and Heartbreakin' Man at Mtn. Jam is a good sign that they'll be dipping into their whole bag of tricks, and pull out some gems along the way.
I have to say I'm less bummed about missing Chicago when even their Roo set is the same as every other set.
To everyone complaining about the setlists or lack of "variety": shut the fuck up. Some of us haven't seen them live in 5 years so whatever the hell they want to play is fine. I'm not trying to be a prick here, but there's nothing stopping you from starting your own site and modding it as you see fit. I know several people who have done so for other bands I'm into, for similar reasons as yours.

Jesus people, you bitch about the stupidest of fucking things around here. And people wonder why I left here last time Be thankful you've gotten to see them recently and that we are able to watch them live via these streams. Shut the fuck up and just enjoy the got damn show. Ungrateful fucking people. Sorry if that's negative but so what. You know, you don't have to listen to every show that pops up so you won't get tired of the same songs.
It wasn't just the songs with this particular performance for me. other than being predictable I thought the overall mix sucked cock. it made it unenjoyable. wasn't loud enough, levels were off, jim's voice was kinda rough at times, etc. compared to mountain jam, I don't know man, I thought it sucked. like legitimately sucked. they didn't really take it next level. Preservation Jazz Band was alright but almost seem like more of a novelty than anything for this particular set. there were a couple nice moments but really, overall, compared to everything they've done this year and everything they've ever done at bonnaroo, it fucking sucked.

I agree 100% with this.
Did anyone capture this and/or know where I can download it now? Thanks!!!

WOW. Sorry you haven't seen a show in 5 years, but that's your fucking problem. Reactions like this is why I don't come around here very much. Everyone's opinion is welcome, so long as it's in positive support of the band. Mutter a word of criticism and some chump who daydreams about what Jim's cock tastes like is gonna jump down your throat.

See, the problem is it used to
not be this way. Us old timers (been here since 2003, minus a break here and there) would come here and is was LOVE THE BAND time. Who cares if we're fanboys, ya know? But more recently it been about bitching and moaning and complaining like they OWE you something. About really silly crap. They don't OWE YOU anything. I always thought the whiners and complainers should start their own thread and let the fanboys have the band's original page. Not so, I guess... :-\
And a lot of the original board people here left b/c of the overall bad vibe with the whining and complainng. It is what it is now, but it used to be a lot tighter and everyone more "on the same page"; less whining, more loving.
Part of the problem, too, is I got to see them play back in the day where they were playing nothing but the tunes everyone is wanting to hear now. I got spoiled being part of the start up. So, hearing new and predictable set lists don't bother me none.
And for the love of God, can you be a little more orignial than the "tase of Jim's cock" line? Please? For us old timers? It's not funny, it's not original. You can do better.

sometimes i forget that the elitist "it used to be so much bette here" attitude exists here, but there you are to remind me every time. but hey, at least you throw jokes in there to spruce it up and make people forget your actually being an ass.
i agree with mjk as well.. and i didn't read his post as being angry or as negative as some of the other ungrateful posts that were bashing the band for not using a little more improv.. that seemless flow from the "intro jam --> slow, slow, tune ---> steam engine ---> steam engine jam" was history in the making and all people could conjure up was their desire for a more varied setlist..
i just think that mikey was venting out loud, and i applaud him for doing so.. even if his choice of words may not have been what you all would have wished and hoped for..
there's really not a nice way to say "shut the fuck up" when it all comes down to brass tacks
i went 5 years without seeing a show as well.. been here since june 22, 2004.. but i'm not trying to pull a "holier than thou" card

"It used to be much better here" is a relative fact to me (and a lot of my friends who left b/c the vibe took a down turn). Not being an elitist, just staing how I feel. I am sure if MMJ gets even bigger that you all will one day long for these days today.
It's relative.
It's subjective.
And you're the one projecting some elitist trip on me; that's you doing that. God knows I have shown my ass here long enough for people to know where I'm coming from. I call myself a fanboy and I am an elitist. Right.
If I were an elitist I wouldn't even come here and hang out with you low lifes.
Thanks T and Darky, this really isn't the place it used to be. Not to be elistist about it. Just stating fact. So it's my problem they haven't come to where I live to see them? Riiiight. Some of us can't travel around like we would like and see them all the time. It's think it's childish to come to the bands own website and consistantly complain about a lack of variety at the shows and do it everytime they tour. Yes there are several who do that and its just really annoying. Again, some of us are just grateful that the band loves their fans enough to do webcasts, allow bootlegging, etc. No, I'm not angry (and it wasn't an angry post and this one is nothing compared to some of the angry posts that used to show up here), I'm just sick and tired of the ungrateful behavior around here when it comes to what songs they do or don't play at shows.
This is the saddest thread I've ever read on here....and it a thread about MMJ and Bonnaroo. :'(
From the pit, he show was fucking brilliant. Not sure if I've ever heard Jims voice in finer form.
And I agree about slow tune into steam engine. WOWWOWWOW!! You Wanna Freak Out sounded great live. Hope that one stays in the setlists for quite some time.

It's childish to express a complaint about a band, but it isn't childish to come in here both guns blazing telling people to shut the fuck up. I didn't say a damn thing about how many times who's seen who when or where. I guess I'm just not s big of a fan as you all. Call it whatever you want to help you feel good, but there is blatant elitism going on here. At the palace I met someone who seemed more excited to see a jacket show than anyone I've ever met, and ya know what, this person decided not to Post here any longer because the people who've been here forever made him feel like he was a lesser because he didn't see them 5 years ago. It may not be intentional, but you're doing it. And it is a gross assumption that I'm an ungrateful fan. I made a comment, one little sentence, about similar set lists, and now I'm ungrateful. Give me a break.
Shall we try to keep this somewhat civilized, ladies and gentlemen?
Thank you kindly.

when your out at a party, or a concert, or where ever.. and you're having a good time.. and you hear someone say "shut the fuck up" in a verbally threatening manner does it just become the worst crime in the history of mankind? no.. because people interject with that kind of language these days.. and it's not always attached to some kind of actual malice.
i look at this forum as a big huge convention to connect with those who share the same passion for the same thing.. maybe not the same exact tastes.. some may like some things done more than others.. but overall.. we are all here to share in that passion..
when people are passionate about things.. they should share comments and remarks at this big huge online convention that are in a positive vain.. at least most of the time.. reality is that we're all human beings.. and we don't always just have the most positive things to say about everything that gets thrown our way in life.. and some will find the "current complaints" thread to vent and let out that information..
the recurring trend with some of the posters in question here is that they tend to latch onto some of those negative remarks that slip out here in the "My Morning Jacket" forum and breathe new air into them.. keeping them around..
the post that MJK made could have been construed as hateful or harsh or whatever.. but I think he just wanted to send a shot across the bow of all these naysayers..
the forum's getting really conjested with threads and posts as it should with all the stuff happening in the realm of MMJ
that's not an "elitest" observation.. that's just coming from someone who doesn't like to waste precious time reading negativity on a forum that was created and hosted by that someone's favorite band.. or at least if they do they can always click over to the "current complaints" thread
Dr. Seuss' The Sneetches - Full Version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3yJomUhs0g#)
We should all take a deep breath and recall the lesson Dr. Seuss taught us through the star bellied sneetches.
Really though, I don't mind the expression of dissent if it is witty, well composed and/or makes a point worth pondering...that is not usually the case though. The use of the board to express "throw shit on the wall to see if it sticks" frustration without leaving the positive opinions room to breathe is a bit disrespectful to those of us reveling in the moment.
yeah, well, I also get the "eilitist" glance when I look at someone yapping on their cell phone during a quiet part of a show. There's just some etiquette that I adhere to that has fallen to the wayside, like complaining about your favorite band's output ON THEIR WEB SITE or illegally downloading a band's music and talking about it on THEIR WEB SITE.
That is what reeks of elitism to me; like My Morning Jacket owes you something and you have some sort or right to take advantage of their success.
After At Dawn, it's allll gravy and icing to me.

I think you're kind of twisting things a bit ewind. I haven't been in this forum very long. I think I lurked for about a couple of years and finally took the plunge to join after seeing my first MMJ show in C'bus last May. So I certainly don't consider myself one of the old guard of this forum, but at the same time, I also don't feel as though I'm being treated like I'm just a noob who doesn't know anything because my post count isn't all that high or because I've only belonged to this forum for a little over a year. I don't get that 'elitist' vibe at all.
I just kind of tend to agree with Mike's and Tracey's opinions about the percieved ungrateful perception some give in this forum.
As Mikey said, be grateful that MMJ is one of the most fan friendly bands out there. Be grateful that they allow bootlegging and allow their shows to be available at no charge on Archive. Be grateful this band brings the same energy to every freaking performance whether the setlist is perceived as being unoriginal or not.
To add one more thing, it's going to be more and more difficult to find setlists that will please everyone as MMJ ammasses more and more material to choose from. Would I like to hear more older material or some rare gem get pulled out every now and again? Sure. But I'm also not going to complain if there happens to be a lack of perceived variety in their set lists because the bottom line is this is still the same band that fucking BRINGS IT to each and every live performance they put on better than any other band out there today! Just watching them perform live whether it be in person like I had the pleasure of being there for the Palace show or watching the live stream like I did for Mountain Jam and 'Roo always does the same thing and that is bring a huge smile to my face and make me think about how fortunate I feel to have discovered such an amazing fucking band!

;D You realize you were listening to a fucking stream on the internet right? ;D I've never watched one of these online where what you described above wasn't the case.
We mustn't apply standards of other bands to this one. The Dead and Phish mentality is being applied where it shouldn't. This is NOT the Dead or Phish!
No, not taking another hiatus...was just doing yardwork again. And people, you are complaining about setlists on FREE concerts. Free. Again, FREE. You are going to complain about something trival like set lists from free shows. Wow.
and Bigherm. Exactly. I didn't have issues on my end with sound/vid quality after the first minute or so. Its really hard to judge the quality when its on a stream.
CT- agreed.

I'd say you're more of a jaded vet than an elitist. criticism is the only thing that's going to keep this band honest and inspired if you ask me. as for how fans approach that criticism is another story. if you can't deal with somebody saying a show wasn't as solid as the last couple I can't tell if you're trapped in delusion or just truly love fluffing this band every time they sneeze. I can't blame you either way for wanting to keep this place positive but tis the evolution of fanbases and the internet. cynics increase with popularity and as time goes by. it's really not about feeling entitled at all. the band or at least the sound for that webcast fucking sucked. everyone there had a great time from what it sounds like and that's what matters. but if you're going to sit there and tell me that you honestly think last night was better than Louisville or Mountain Jam I can do nothing more than call you crazy. it just wasn't that good. they admit they don't always hit it at a show ,60-80percent of the time Jim says they DO NOT get in the zone but that small 20percent when they do is what it's all about. when a show is over before you knew it started. like a flash. but that did not happen this year at bonnaroo. it did at mountain jam and the unstaged show, but not the roo. if you can't handle them playing bad shows and reading reviews about it maybe that's the problem. Maybe YOU shouldn't be here if it's so uncomfortable for you. the most bitching I've seen is about a couple songs off of evil urges and maybe a few people complaining about a song or two off of circuital. that's how things happen, no band is capable of being perfect.
anybody who can't deal with the criticism needs to get off their high horse. nobody is disputing MMJ is a great band.

You all win, this is never gonna end. I don't like the setlist, there for ungrateful. Yada yada yada
My Morning Jacket Takes The Stage At Bonnaroo '11 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGMBeKZt8WU#ws)
it's not that we're ungrateful but we expect more at bonnaroo. the reason of the setlist was probably due to somewhat that they were on the main stage . they wanted to put out their hits for the massive crowd who probably will include new fans. but the main issue was arcade fire. i love em but if they interfere with MMJ's set they can go straight to hell.
as for the audio quality we should appreciate anything we can get but there are standards and it was below it. It was a clear play to just have something to promote bonnaroo and the new vevo live streams.
....Did I miss something? Because I honestly didn't catch any "bitching or complaining"
about the setlists, just normal discussion as to why it was similar to the Mountain Jam setlist. And then JohnnYYac added a well-thought explanation, saying that it was because they're catering to a different crowd, full of people who aren't familiar yet with MMJ tunes, so they kind of need to be across the board with the sings they play as opposed to specific older songs that the rest of us love but don't get to hear often. (Paraphrasing you Senor Yac, hopes that's ok). So I didn't really see where all this anger is coming from...
So if anyone is super pissed off, then I guess I'm the one who's supposed to be crucified, because I made one of the first comments (at 10:59 pm last night for you'se researchers) noticing that the set lists were similar
(Exact words I do believe were: "NOT complaining, just observing.")
*Edit: Except that MJ was 100019090x better 'cause I was there en personne. BREATHING THE SAME AIR.....#stalkertendencies

I agree with this statement. I could hear that alot of the sound issues were not just from the live feed but were actually at the concert itself. Maybe the feeling (from the band) of not having 3-4 hours of playing live again made this the inferior show of the 3?
I thank the internet, MMJ, and whoever puts on the free live feeds. But out of all the 3 shows the roo was very far at the bottom.
*side note- I'm fortunate to see the band twice in the next coming month. LA & SB. One great indoor and outdoor show. I hope the band can make both shows different. Not asking for much.

He has been the biggest challenge of all the dogs I or my family has had. But the payoff is that he is a great dog. Coonhounds have a ridiculous amount of energy, he requires a run everyday if not twice a day. But they are goofy, smart, playful, and snuggly (he likes to sleep under the covers and prefers to spoon whenever he gets the chance). They were bred to hunt in a pack (raccoons as well as bobcats and even bears), so they are very social with other dogs. He is vocal, but it is a beautiful bark/howl (deep, not grating like my sister's chihuahua when he gets going). And he is a looker, no doubt about it. Without fail, he gets comments wherever we take him. More info on the breed here:

Scotty, you never read Where the Red Fern Grows as a kid?
Well well well! So once I finally got the stream to work (Thank you Penny, if you see this! I too had to upgrade the adobe bs for it to work, and I would've never known that, had you not posted your story of the same situation.... (parenthesis inside parenthesis: didn't these media programs used to TELL us when they needed upgraded?? Or is that just Flash....) ) Anywho-- once I got it to work, I put it on full-screen and didnt want to interrupt the stream by hangin' on the boards, but I made 2 little notes of things that really stood out to me that I enjoyed and made me smile :-) Yes, notes.. I was hoping to share these eventually! :P
1. Apparently I heard some sort of guitar "trickle-in" before the end of Run Thru?? I don't recall hearing that before, and I'd have to listen to one of the recordings Sticky was so swell as to post to confirm that I did indeed hear it before Run Thru... but that was one of my notes I'd taken...
2. I also smiled after "They are--- the imitayyyytoorrrsss" where he (as per my notes) shouted a hearty WOOO OOO OOOOOO afterward that must've tickled me...
So, um... I hope I wasn't dreaming that up, but I'm glad it finally worked, and I'm still thankful that I was able to get a nice solid sleep afterward 8)
Nice Sneetch vid too, blu... old school memories there :) Oh and JY good find on the...the SP-404SX Transmogrifier--- now you'll need to get one to go with the omnis!!! :-D
Oh yeeeahhhhhh... just downloaded the Bonnaroo III mp3 from sendspace (Thanks Sticky!) and there is a sweet little choppy bit at about the 23 min. mark, guess I was really feelin' it while watchin last night heh
Kinda reminds me (randomly of course) of like, some Tool song or something.... good stuff, glad to be able to go back and check it out, thanks for sharing!!
I like how Jim gave Patrick the little "Dude, come on" flip with his hand while Patrick was getting pumped when he heard the horns.

You know what I love? Stating my opinion as fact:
Why change up a set list when you know how much time it takes? This is what I was saying was a reason NOT to go to 'roo, compared with the best reason to go: latenight. MMJ is not a headliner. They are a latenight event. When they're not a headliner, they're constrained. That's not the spirit of bonnaroo for a band like MMJ. It suits Death Cab or Arcade Fire since they're about as varied as a KISS set.
MMJ to me is latenite or nothing.
It's not the band' fault. It's not a decline of ability or talent.

It was a stab in the dark, a search through Musician's Friend for some kind of sampling device. Then the Bonnoaroo video of them pre-show afforded me the opportunity to see what it was.
Not sure if I'll add it to my 'chord collection; need $$$ for shows. Will you and I cross paths this summer? I've got Montreal>Ottawa, Lollapalooza, and Boston lined up.

I'm not a big fan of this thing, or any sampling for that matter. If you're going to use backup singers and horns on an album, I'd prefer to see them bring them on tour when they do those tunes..If not, either drop the songs from the set, or changeup the arrangement live, jmho, and not a complaint.
This goes for any band, not just MMJ.
i think they are just gearing up for a Circuital tour full of suprises, fellas..
they cant be pullin out all the stops for these festival slots.. they'll have neko case, amos lee, and phosphorescent supporting them.. and it's likely that the summer/early fall tour will end at ACL 2011..
The only two times I saw him using this thing it seemed as if he was only adding those scratching warping sounds like how you hear at the end of "circuital"... i think most of the vocal/horn sampling comes from Bo Koster or the horn lines they've been bringing along for these festival sets

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Still don't like the sampling, but I agree with your previous post about not pulling out all the stops for fests.
Just got back from Roo (I dayparked for Friday/Saturday), and I am SO surprised as I read the forum comments for this show.
I walked into the pit with no expectations (due to main stage show and the possibility of a "main stream" setlist, and the fact that Arcade Fire would inevitably put a stopper on good times). And having no expectations for any TF material or even a Lay Low of PWW really amped my experience, and I would encourage anyone else to do the same!!
The only case of sound trouble occurred during Victory Dance, and the rest of the show was crystal clear. Honestly, that was the best sounding (technically speaking) show I've ever seen by MMJ. Probably the loudest too. Maybe I was in a sweet spot, but all I know is it sounded incredible. I've never heard a guitar (jim's) sound so crystal clear and cutting. Bo was also once again high in the mix and wailing, which was great to hear.
To me, the new tunes seemed much smoother compared to the Palace show, and there definitely seemed to be a new grunginess or hard edge that I hadn't heard before. Really all of the tunes they played seemed charged and passionate....
I guess the stream was all janked up, but the crowd was very electric (speaking form a Pit point of view), and the band seemed to really be feeding off of it. I'm bummed that you folks had bad times streaming, but it was glorious in person!
With regard to the lack of variation in the set-list: fuck it. It's live Jacket, it rejuvenates me every time, and we don't know their reasoning for their decisions. I go for the feeling and the experience, not the names on the little white lists. It was truly an incredible show

their song "your hand in mine" is what got me hooked on the Friday Night Lights train.. I loved the music in the beginning of that show.. it's kind of tapered off but in the first few seasons there were a lot of mellow guitar jams going on in the background of just about every scene
Don't know if this has been discussed, but am I the only one really bummed out by the demotion of "Run Thru" to mere snippet status? :'( That and Dondante are the two epic musts for every show for me. Are they just tired of playing it?

agreed but it seems jim's voice is straining right now.
It was nice to fit in Run Thru and Lay Low jams, even only parts, to allow for other songs during the 2010 tour. I do agree, it would be nice to see a full Run Thru and Lay Low. But I'm writing this with Okonokos streaming into my head with primo 'phones, so its all good.
funny that people don't realize that MMJ are trying to not recreate history right now and trying to promote a back catalogue to brand new fans. those who bite onto this abbreviated version of old stuff along with the stuff on the new album.. they'll buy those last few tickets up to shows that will happen on the album tour.. where they'll be completely fucking blown away by a 2-3 hour show full of rare and stretched out old tunes

I thought the show was great but the crowd seemed lame, as in less than energetic. Maybe the hot sun took it out of folks all day. Did anyone else notice this?
I was there at 'Roo and felt the crowd was as good as any other crowd of the weekend except maybe Mumford and Sons. M&S had a huge crowd and everyone was really, really into them. Of course, I didn't watch every show of the weekend so I cannot speak for every performance. I digress, many people I talked with really were excited to see the Jacket prior to the show and people seemed to really enjoy the performance afterwards. But yes the sun was extremely hot and zapped the energy from us all.

From the pit, he show was fucking brilliant. Not sure if I've ever heard Jims voice in finer form.
And I agree about slow tune into steam engine. WOWWOWWOW!! You Wanna Freak Out sounded great live. Hope that one stays in the setlists for quite some time.
I agree.
I'm on page 18 of this thread and have started to think that if everyone in the thread could all be at a show live, we will all forget the complaining, and back and forth stuff going on. "Setlist", "Jim's Voice"-don't matter much when watching them live. They are better at 50% than pretty much any other band at 100%. Not that they were at 50% at 'Roo, but just saying.

I don't see why they can't switch it up and still make their label happy and still sell the album. Love and appreciate all the webcasts, but predictability takes away something for me. Shoulda slipped a little something in extra for all the ROO goers if ya ask me (which no one is). That was their biggest crowd to date, could have turned it up. (I wasn't at the show, though, so if Easy Ryder said it was otherworldly, then it was) :-)

This is one of my favorite recipes, Vespa. Hope you find it as yummy. Also, I play around with how much sugar I put in and usually add extra fruit like raspberries and sometimes a little bit of pineapple juice.
•1 Bottle of white wine
•1/2 cup Peach Schnapps
•1/4 to 1/2 cup sugar
•2 sliced peaches (can be frozen)
•1 sliced orange
•1/2 mango peeled and sliced
•1/2 liter of ginger ale
I dont drink sangria (although this sounds tasty), but I really gotta ask, how does one correctly slice a mango?! I love mangoes, but I havent figured out how the hell to cut it up. Ive just resorted to peeling them and eating it like an apple because its a pain in the ass to try and cut the fruit off the irregularly shaped awkward ass core they have. I have hope you have a solution to my mango troubles.
.......also good news the stream is lookin pret-tay, pret-tay, pretty good now :bath:
The best way is to leave it peeled, cut it in half and cut away all the hard parts that you don't want to eat. Then holding a half in the palm of your hand, cut the fruit into squares without cutting through the peel. Then push the skin so the fruit is inside-out and cut the squares away.
Oh yeah, the stream, WOOOO!
Thanks for this recipe Ky! I made it (x6) at our BBQ this weekend and it was a huge success. I didn't add any sugar at all because it was soo sweet to me already, nd I also included some grapefruit and a bit of apple. Yummmmmmmmmy!

Yes indeed. The sound issues were at Bonnaroo itself. Bonnaroo 2011 did not have a good year with the sound in my opinion, other bands included.
I read it was a HUGE problem during Buffalo Springfield, like you could have a conversation with people no problem
Wow. I can only chuckle toward whoever said this was a bad show. It may have been a bad STREAM, but you can leave MMJ out of it. I was 1 person off the rail right in front of Jim, and the show sounded and looked bad ass. The crowd was rockin and singing where I was, and it was as hot as it was at the Palace show. (Meaning, sweat-soaked clothes type hot with NO BREEZE...and hilariously there were also people in THAT show's thread sitting at home watching the internet stream in the air conditioning complaining that the crowd was too lame.) This was my 20th show.....I've seen all the Bonnaroo shows IN PERSON minus 2003. They are all different beasts. This one was too. And that ain't no elitist-old-timer shit. That's from an I-get-goosebumps-every-time-I-see-them-live person.
The Palace show was amazing and it was hot and they played to 2700 people. It looks like Mountain Jam's total attendance is around 10,000 people. I couldn't even make an educated guess about attendance at this show at Bonnaroo, but the vibe from the crowd was just massive. I could not see how far back or how big the crowd was after waiting in line 3 hours to get that close in the pit, but I knew I was at the head of a giant mass of people, and you HAVE to represent. I gave everything I had for this show and it didn't disappoint at all. When the bass kicked in the first time on Victory Dance, it felt like my chest was going to explode. Hahaha. Anyway, this was the biggest crowd they've played for, so I feel confident they gave it their all too. (Steam Engine alone was worth the price of my Roo ticket...but then i guess I'm easy to please. ;D )
I think it would be wise to attend a show before you totally discount it. It wasn't EPIC or LEGENDARY or a MARATHON or peppered with deep tracks and covers, and a children's choir, or a symphony orchestra, or Squallis Puppeteers, or Kirk Hammett or Zach Galifinakis or Erykah Badu or Andrew Bird, or a prom king and queen...but it was My Morning Jacket in the effing flesh and for me at least, I've yet to see a sub-par show from them.
Amen, brother.

The Buffalo Springfield show was the absolute worst as far as sound goes. Biggest disappointment of the weekend. Sad that this was likely the last ever show for these guys together and nobody could fully enjoy it besides the few really up close. I was plenty of close enough where I should have had no problem hearing it, and struggled to hear it. Bright side of this show, this was when I met Jim after leaving the porta potties.
Got this review from an acquaintance whose ears I trust. I missed the broadcast and have basically only seen the setlist. I am reposting some of his review here because I like what he says and he's got good ears. ;)
... following the Dr. John/Meters/ Toussaint "Destively Bonnaroo" late set on Sat, there was a walking parade though Centeroo which included The Pres Hall Band, members of MMJ including Patrick and Jim (i can't really recall if was playing anything but was marching with all of us) and Stanton and prob others from Galactic. It started with a few dozen of us then seemed like we picked up a lot of passengers as it took the long way towards the cinema tent. Where next to it was a giant Mr. T head Mardi Gras float cloaked in smoke and lights with Portugal The Man on top waiting for the circus to arrive. They then played about 30-45 min where they REALLY catered to the mindset of the assembled. It was one of my favorite experiences, musically and otherwise, from all 10 years I've been to the festival.
other quick highlights:
- MMJ set (further) established them as arena rock superstars. Although their past Bonnaroo sets have used things like giant puppet troupe, ridiculous covers and sit-ins from Kirk Hammett and Mother Nature to set them apart from any MMJ shows have seen anywhere else but on the farm, this year they slayed the crowd on their terms with their songs and inhuman intensity. I've seen every single set they played at Bonnaroo and this one and each one really represented a huge step forward for them and this one might have been the longest stride.

But they've announced a fall tour ???
New forum member and first post. I was at the show Friday night and was completely enthralled by MMJ's set. The sound (after it was fixed during Victory Dance) was stellar and the crowd totally went crazy the entire time. I don't know if the livestream was good or bad, but the live performance was astounding.
That being said, I think I was the ideal target audience the band was trying to reach. You see, I've been to 5 Roo's (2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2011) but have yet to see MMJ perform live. I guess I had a conflict in 2006 and was not familiar with them. I love all kinds of music, but MMJ's albums never really made it to my regular listening queue. I cannot explain why, they just were not doing it for me. I've never sought them out during their tours either... and I am kicking myself now for waiting so long.
After the festival I went back to my ipod catalog and I truly appreciate their studio work 1000 times more than before. That show opened up a locked door for me somehow and I am a changed man. This has only happened to me once before with Radiohead, which is pretty good company to be in. I just ordered tickets to see them at Verizon Amphitheater in Atlanta in August. They are my new favorite band.
Twas a very good set. The setlist left (for me) a little to be desired, but I thoroughly enjoyed the pit experience (woo!). Well, except for the acid-eating-fedora-sporting-leg-humping freak standing next to me. What the?!?
Sound was off everywhere, including the first song of the set. But when that speaker was adjusted...WHOA! Every hair on my body stood up.

Awesome...your mission now is to get the live DVD Okonokos. If you haven't seen it prepare to be blown!

Great effing story! Welcome aboard and as the old saying goes, better late than never!
I keep telling my friends that aren't totally into this band or who won't give them a chance to just go and see them live and they will forever be changed in their opinions on this band.

Mangoes are delicious
I was wondering how big the Roo crowd was and saw this today in a Spin article... "...in an effort to make their prime 8-10 PM sunset slot, in front of at least 50,000 fans, seem as vital and boundary-blurring as ever.
http://www.spin.com/articles/my-morning-jacket-deliver-brilliant-bonnaroo-set (http://www.spin.com/articles/my-morning-jacket-deliver-brilliant-bonnaroo-set)
If that's the case, I suppose that's their biggest crowd ever.
And, BTW, good timing on the mango recipe. I have a few ripe ones ready to go for Fri night!

This is a half mango/half bonnaroo thread. Mango-rooooooooo
Nice article! loved this part: " My Morning Jacket's Jim James is a shaggy, cherubic music geek, who works to make sure no paying customer ever finishes listening to an MMJ album or goes home from a concert feeling patronized"
Also I was eating lots of Mangoes at Roo... MANGOROOOOO
