Hi all!
If you're going to be in Chicago for the show next Friday, please swing by to meet some fellow fans and throw a couple bucks toward a good cause! Mercy Home is the charity that the band has designated to receive a portion of their ticket sales - and they can definitely use all the help we can provide. A little bit about them...
Mercy Home for Boys & Girls has been a solution for kids in crisis since 1887. Through residential, aftercare, and mentoring programs, they provide a safe home, a good education and access to opportunity to more than 600 young people each year. You can help throughout the year by referring a child in crisis, mentoring a child, or investing in a child's future.

poster tube on it's way to you via priority mail. These are two posters by Status Serigraph from the 08 tour, a shop I'm a big fan of, espec the Avett posters. I realize these are still available at the MMJ store, but these are signed as artist proofs which might make them a bit more interesting to any collector. Thanks for organizing this and I'm happy to be able to contribute.

Awesome...thanks so much, mahg33ta! The generosity of the fans here is truly overwhelming. :dankk2:
I've spent the better part of my life mentoring young people, as I grew up in a fatherless, financially destitute home with no role models. Mercy House is close to my heart and ill be there as well as offer any services I can too. Thank you for doing this beautiful thing.
hey... is it still too late for donations? i'm not sure i can get anything there by friday (although come to think of it i could probably get the guys to sign something on the road, but i have archival crap lying around. maybe crap's the wrong word.)
drat - sorry - i just read about this!! let me know.
revised: maggie - talked to t about this. email me and we can sort it. i would pm but i tried to send another pm the other day and i don't know if it ever sent/works/something.
hey ALady, you rock!
I have a JJ signed setlist from the 7/30/10 App Voices show. Do you think there would be interest in that? I'm happy to send.
Also, I have setlists (unsigned) from 8/20/10 Champlain Valley and 8/29/10 Great Plaza.
They are in inexpensive (ikea) frames. Let me know, and I will fedex them to you.
Oh wow...thanks so much, lp! :o Email sent! :)
Trish, that would be great! Thanks, lady! :) I think there would be interest...the party is still pretty small, but if we can get the word out a bit more I think we could find some bidders. Please spread the word, folks!
Question for the forum, how much would you donate for a setlist? ;D Remember, it's going to a good cause!

30 bucks unsigned.. at least 60 for a signed one.. there are way bigger items up for bid as well.. unless magh33ta is gonna be there, there should be some pretty good competition goin for some of the posters.
Any way to donate without attending?
Yes! If you go to mercyhome.org, they have a donation page (sorry I don't have a direct link handy, I'm on my phone). And if you're interested in any of the silent auction items, I think we're going to try to figure out some way to do proxy bidding...
I'll just donate - too hard to get the stuff to the UK. Have a great evening - it's a fantastic idea for a good cause.
Thanks for doing this Maggie! I may have to put in a silent bid for that Chicago Setlist from 08. I was at that show with my cousin. I'll get back to you later this week. You rule!!
Let me know, BH! We should be able to work out some kind of system...maybe call the long-distance folks after bidding's closed and see if you want to top the high bid?
Two VERY exciting additions to the auction, donated by our very own My Morning Jacket: a signed vinyl copy of Circuital and a signed Auditorium show poster!
!!!!! does not begin to express!
wow, that is so awesome. these dudes rule. I hope to make it sooooo bad.

Awesome!!!
does someone here wanna take my auctions long distance if i cant be there, I want to bid on the poster for that show, or someone to just buy me a poster at the show.
ALady, do you have the poster yet? do you know who the artist is?
I'm inquiring about the artist right now - don't know just yet, but I'll post it when I find out.
Any ideas about how to work the long distance bidding, anyone?
What if the phone in bids are able to set there max bid from the start and if they are outbid then give them one more shot at it.
Like eBay... If I say my max bid 50$ on something and its at 35 at the end then I get it for 36. just an example. seems like it would work. the only thing is we would have to keep the max bid secret i guess... though the ultimate goal is raising money so it might entice people to donate more if they know how much the max bid is

definitely need to give the live bidders a chance to beat the long distance bids- you can't just close the bidding at $35 and say "sorry someone else won for $36"...
yeah that does sound stupid. revised plan: i tell someone there what my max bid is, and as people bid they bid something higher for me, until it reaches my max bid. the only problem i see with this is the person doing the bidding for me might find it a tedious job.
This is awesome. Let's support this people! Whether you are at the show or not, this is a WIN WIN for all of us. I get to support my out of control MMJ habit and feel good about 100% of the money going to a good cause all at once.
I'm willing to just give Maggie a number and have her write it in at the beginning as a starting point. If I get outbid, great! But I think the people on site should get the final say.
I'm going to go ahead and get this thing started. I'm going to commit to $30 for that setlist and $30 (which I realize won't win) for the signed vinyl to get this thing rolling. Mark me down!
Woohoo! Love seeing all the support on here. You guys are amazing! :D
Question, what to do about shipping for offsite bidders? Should it just be understood that if you win, you'll also agree to cover shipping?
I've just received word that the poster for this Friday is by Jason Brammer - you'll remember his work from the last Chicago show, and from Z night at T5:

I realize that these will go for more, but the more bids the merrier!
Maggie, please pm me the address to send the poster to. Due to health issues this show is also now cancelled for me. :-( Does anyone know how I can give these tickets away? They're will call, 2nd row center, orchestra. I'd hate for them to go to waste but the box office is being uncooperative in allowing someone else to pick them up. :-(

Anybody you know well enough to give them your credit card to pick them up? That's the only thing I can think of.

i've had this issue before and i faxed a copy of my driver's license and credit card to the guy that picked them up. i blacked out the license number and some of the credit card number, and it worked, but i knew ahead of time that the venue was cool with it. i'd suggest that. i'll be there friday if there's anything i can do

Will do. So sorry to hear you're out for this one, Deja. :( Was really looking forward to meeting you! Hope you feel better soon - there will be lots of epic shows in your future! Take care!

I'm also going to see about getting these tix released to someone. I refuse to let them go to waste. If i can get anyone here to pick em up and use em in the auction, upgrade yours if that's the only thing that can be done, or pass em on, let me know. Just PLEASE. PROMISE ME THAT THEY WILL BE USED BY FANS AND NOT RESOLD.
PM me. They're something like 2-5th row, dead center, orchestra C, Row F.
Let's get these to the right people. Thanks all.
Looks like I'm back in for this show.... See y'all there
I'm not on the facebook, did I hear that there will be live bidding?
Yes, I think after the silent auction is done we'll do a "last call to put in a bid" type of live bidding...we'll see what we can manage in a noisy bar ;D

Here's a pic of the "Shamrocks for Kids" pins that we'll be selling at the event. They go for $2 (or whatever you care to donate) and it all goes straight to Mercy Home.

PM sent! Thanks Tater!
Thanks to everyone who attended, donated their hard-earned cash or memorabilia, and helped run the event last night! I have never felt prouder to be a Jacket fan and part of this community. We had a great crowd, and while we're waiting on a final tally from the Mercy Home folks, I'd guess we raised almost $1,000. They could not have been more appreciative and literally could not stop thanking us. It was a great feeling to walk into the show knowing that we'd been able to pull together and accomplish something like that! Looking around that huge, ornate theater, all I could think was that each of the 4,000 people in there represented another dollar for Mercy Home - and that was a truly overwhelming feeling. So proud of this bad and their fans!
Much love to Tater, twofingers, and watchtower for everything you did to help get this thing off the ground. Could not have done it without you.
Big ups to MMJ, lp and the MMJ staff for coordinating some seriously boss donation items! We had two signed Circuital vinyls and a signed show poster, and they raised a serious chunk of change.
Most gracious thanks to everyone who donated items: watchtower41, mahg33tah, DejaView, tdb410, twofingers, e_wind. Everything sold. Every penny went straight to help those kids. Thank you for giving so selflessly.
Finally, I just wanted to say that it was an honor and a pleasure to work with all of you and I hope we can do it again soon. It was literally just a few emails, a few phone calls, a few PMs over the course of two weeks - mostly, it was your generous donations that got it going, and the event itself went by fast and was really fun. Anyone could do it (and I hope you do)!
xo
ALady
Hooray everybody and way to go, lady! It was a lot of fun seeing and meeting, and supporting a great cause. I hope we can do more of these!
That is so awesome! Thank you for all of the organizing and dedication! I heart you ALady!

What a nite. Alady your the best !!!! This wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for your warm heart. I'm SO happy that I got to participate in this event. Very nice to meet Twofingers & Crispy and to see Amd again and all the other fans that I met that opened their wallets for the Mercy Home. And the show was the icing on the cake. WOW WOW what a nite, I didn't want it to end. I'm sorry if I drunk danced into anybody last nite and we exchanged body fluids. My lovely brother took some video of me dancing or groovin or whatever you wanna call it and I was friggin mess, but who cares because I was one in 4000 rockin the roof of that mofo. Sorry if I didn't get a chance to party with you guys after the show but I was drooling on myself at that point. I hope we get a chance to do this again. More to come after I take a nap

Yes in deed that is me. Thanks for fixing Johnny, I figured it out ( I had my wife fix it ) that it was just to big. Hopefully we get a chance to meet one day. I'm not sure if I'm going to lollapalooza yet, But if I do I will buy you a bottled water or something ;) last time I was there I got heat stroke and threw up of the train on the way home, It was awesome !!!! I had an entire train car to myself after that. I felt like that little kid that crapped himself in 2nd grade and had to sit in an office all by himself until his mom picked him up. That kid was me. :)

Great story! Love the bearded bookends in the picture, too. I'm definite for Lolla, so ball's in your court. ;)
Sorry it's taken me a couple days to get back here and respond, but it was a pleasure to meet everyone at Kasey's and thank you so much for showing up and supporting Mercy Home! Kasey's was thrilled by the turn-out (and rightfully so, with how us MMJ fans can drink before a show!) It was very cool to meet some new MMJ fans from all over, I regret not being able to chat more without having to meet-up with all my friends that were arriving. After leaving Kasey's shortly after 12:30, we ran into the whole band back by Auditorium as they were just leaving for Minnesota and getting ready to tackle a Lou's pizza. A very surreal Friday night, one that I will surely not forget anytime soon, no matter how hard my hangover tried....
Cheers to you all, hopefully we can all do this again sometime... Lolla anyone?
Already in talks with the Mercy Home folks to set something up for Lolla...so we shall see
One last note...I just received our final tally from Mercy Home, and we raised a little over $1100 total. Well done, Jacket fans! Well done. Your generosity helped make this a smashing success, and Mercy Home sends their thanks!
