my sis-in-law went last night and she's someone who's music opinion I very much trust. She is in the music business and would have described her MMJ stance as "highly respect" but never had seen live. Her report was "one of best shows she's ever seen" and that's from someone who sees shows with an ALady-type pace. Wish I'd been there!
i did! i missed the tix onsale, but someone with an extra hooked me up! this may have been the smallest mmj show that i've ever seen. NUTS!
i was really surprised they played the whole of circuital! you just know that some of those tracks aren't going to be played out often. hearing slow tune > moving away was gorgeous.
i was keeping a set list for awhile. at a certain point i thought, "heeey. hold on a minute." ;D

Yeah! And how about ms. y being one of the very few who have now seen every one of MMJ's albums performed live in their entirety and in order. I wonder who else besides those affiliated with the band saw all of T5 and this show?

So, I guess this is as good of a place to put this. Kinda going through some stuff, and came across a KCRW Morning Become Eclectic cd I had made a few years ago, when I would literally spend hours of my free time converting all of these incredible shows they did. These two were from October, 2001 and October, 2002. I know all have heard these, but I recommend going back and taking another listen. What I love about the entire series (I love Nick Harcourt), was that the band would play three songs, then he'd interview, then there would be another three songs (total time around 25 minutes). Jim pretty much said that he wants every album to be different, and to continue to grow w/ each album. That he didn't want to be pigeon-holed to a genre, etc.
I'm not going to address each point he made, but it is kinda cool that he has stuck to his guns on this. It would be very easy to do what they need to do to sell records. He also spoke of being very influenced by his parent's record collection, which included Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, etc.
