Alright so I know this may be a tough question and maybe somebody else has asked it but what is the best Jacket show you have seen. I have them three times now (once at House of Blues in Orlando, once in St. Augustine, and once in Gulf Shores, AL) I would probably have to say that my favorite show was the one in St. Augustine where Preservation Hall Band opened and closed the show with them. Great crowd and awesome setlist. I am a huge Curtis Mayfield fan and this was the tour when they were closing with Move on Up which is one of my favorite Curtis songs and is on my favorite Mayfield album. The only thing that sucked was that I had to drive back to Orlando after the show. The show I saw in Orlando was incredible and it was my first Jacket show. Pretty much played for three solid hours. They took one break and I couldn't even get outside to smoke a cig before the came back on with a raucous version of Highly Suspicious. Plus that's the only time I have heard them play Dodante. Last show I saw was at the Hangout Beach Fest about a month ago and of course they were on the top of my list of people to see. I was down there with about 30-40 friends and I kept raving about how great they were live and this and that and all my friends told me they were gonna go with me but when the show came they all decided to go see Sound Tribe Sector Nine which was a huge mistake. So anyways a couple weeks later those same friends went to Wakarusa because we are all from Arkansas. I got numerous phone calls after the show was over saying how stupid they were for not seeing them in Alabama. Needless to say I definitely converted some people to life long fans. Anyways, in other news I was reading up on MMJ and saw that they just announced they are going to judges in this songwriting competition in Nashville. The competition has some great judges like Tom Waits and Jeff Beck. Im sure there are a lot of musicians on this fan site so I would encourage yall to check it out. my first show.. as a wee young misguided lad working an awesome summer job building stages for an asshole who made me strive for more in life.... "long story short" i quit the job and moved onto something else.. met the whole band in 2005 after the sloss furnace show in birmingham and told them my story about how they changed my life and put me in the right direction.. and i would be very honored if they remembered that encounter almost 6 years down the road.. as hard as that seems it seems very realistic..

Rather accessible setlist. Harrrumphh
the two I just saw were out of this world, but seeing them front row in seattle back in sept 2008 takes the cake. It was just flat out an incredible show. I was leaning on the stage from start to finish. I LOVED the setlist so much, that I actually jumped up on stage and stole Carl's in the encore break, roadie was pissed.

My first five were seeing them open for PJ east coast in 2006, so not really Jacket shows, but still a great first exposure.
Gotta agree that the Tennessee Fire show at T5 was truly something special. Probably the best concert I've ever seen in my life. Such a shame so little of it was recorded -- by fans at least. Probably because everyone was too busy rockin'.
This was my favorite. It was wife's first Jacket show, which made it even more special, to be able share that night with her and see her react to the stage. Awesome show.

Night 1 and 2 at T5 will always be special and on equal footing but I still have to think my 1st show was my favorite for obvious reasons. I couldn't see them on the Z tour but was able to catch them next go round for Okonokos. No frickin' filler. Not one skippable tune. Just mindblowing :o

Also, Rites of Spring '06 was a good one b/c it was on my school's campus my Junior year. Out of 11 shows the 'worst' one is still better than 99% of any other.

As everyone else has said, my first show was probably my favorite. Radio City Music Hall in 2008. Scored tickets an hour before the show, and I must say, unbelievable. The combination of the sold out crowd (show sold out in 20 minutes), the energy of the band, and the venue were awesome. I really hope they make a return to RCMH one day, because the venue captures the band perfect.

For the record, Portland wasn't my first, just the best, top to bottom. Boston '08, my first, was awesome, but I was a mile away from the stage and DRUNK, too drunk. Still, at the time, 'twas the best show I'd seen in a long time. Like Laura said, the best is likely yet to come.

Dude! I had no idea they have played in Athens...Now that the Georgia Theater is back open maybe they will come back.
My favorite show I've seen was probably at Wakarusa, probably because it was the first time I've seen them really close like that (leaning on the rail of gen admission)
Chastain Park in ATL last year was awesome too though.
Wow. This is like asking which of my kids I love more ;).....No way for me to pick a fave.
TTF at T5 is one that will be hard to top for me. MPP last year and The Yum show are up there too.
St. Augustine was another. Small venue,great crowd, the wind and rain mixed into the smoke and lights. The band tearing it up, and I got to take my lovely daughter to her first MMJ show. It'll always be very high on my list, and definitely the one that means the most to me.

Sometimes I think the indelible mark that show left on my psyche may only be topped by an experience like the birth of my first born. Thinking about it sends chills down my spine.

Hard to compete with new years eve 2008 at the Garden. It was just a huge party. Felt like they were playing for us while no one else on the planet even existed.
I saw them with the Boston Pops - very cool, but too short.
I saw them at Langerado and Lollapalooza 2007 - Great Shows too short.
I saw them at St Aug, Miami Filmore - Great Shows, too small of crowds.
Now I have to pick from T5, NYE, Radio City and Chicago last month....
I can't pick, all were beyond special. But, I would have to give the nod to Radio City, since it was the 1st time I saw the boys at a sold out show with everyone there just to see them.
Plus nothing can top Jim running up the side during Steam Engine.

I knew Z & Evil Urges going into MSG and was absolutey blown away. Became a fan for life.
I got on line around 430 for the Terminal 5 shows and was able to land a spot dead center on the first balcony rail. Both shows I got that spot. Well my GF did and I got a poster.
Primetime location help make an amazing experience.
I would say MSG was the best "show" I've ever seen. But Z, EU, MJ were all a blast as well.
I'm hoping either a Halloween or NYE show in NYC at this point with nothing being in the area.

My third show was one of the best. We drove up to Detroit one weekend to see them. Got to meet them after the show and got the set list. We were upfront and that version on "Run Thru" was one of the best! (there is a video of it on youtube somewhere). I have to say T5 night one and Z night were in the top 3.

My favorite (by far) was the first night at T5. Something happened in there. I don't remember when it began, but perhaps it was right around the time that War Begun was completely flooring me. I can remember Picture of You was next...the crowd was so silent. The spot light was shinning right on Jim and his voice was indescribable....I completely felt like Stan in American Dad when he goes on his awesome Owl aided trip.
I left the venue that night feeling like I had seem something truly special. As I walked to the street corner some woman with a camera asked me what I thought about the show and why I liked MMJ. My response was simple..."were you just in there?"
My second favorite show was Roo '06. It was the first time I heard them live, and I was hooked from the get go.
NYE 2008 was pretty special as well.

1. Night 1 of T5 (too special to put into words, also seeing everyone and the anticipation and waiting years to hear those songs)

Haldon & Penny - so glad you mentioned this. There was definitely something completely different happening in the room that night for me. It's something I haven't yet been able to put into words, in a nice succinct package.
I, too had the same reaction to the woman with the camera outside the venue. It's pretty cool that there is footage of my look of absolute shock and awe. What was that website, Wink or something? She was from the UK, that I remember, and had that really funky looking camera.
So, while I am still unable to define it, night one of T5 takes my #1 spot.
2) Roseland 2006 - my first show -- the look on Bob's face when the Dondante "magic" began happening.
3) NYE 2008 - because um - Jim sent us the tix and we were high fiving Patrick's Mom during run thru.

definately NOT my 1st show - field day festival @ giants stadium (parking lot stage) in 2003. wasn't the band's fault - way too many outside factors to go into. i don't recall too much other than they rocked out & i was pretty mesmerized by johnny quaid :-X

This is one I go back to often. Between the excellent turnout for the tailgate, the proper amount of adult beverage, and the band's energy, it was hard to NOT fall in love with MMJ that night. I've never seen Jim smile so much during a show. That Steam Engine is by far my favorite, too. Let's hope this year's is just as grand. :beer:

The anticipation was so thick you could reach out and hold on to it and I think our hearts were all beating in sync causing space and time to sort of fall away for a few hours.

It wasn't the best show I have seen by them, but I saw MMJ at the opera house in Toronto in 2004. On that night, Steam engine ripped me to shreds. Powerful stuff...
Thought about this for a while. I choose to look at the question as "what was the best time I ever had at a Jacket show". To me, the atmosphere, the area all add to the experience. Not just the show and setlist. The answer I came up with was Avalon 2006 inn Boston. Just had a magical night and the show was amazing though shorter in comparison to what we are now spoiled to expect.

+1 - same response for me. Thought about this for a while, concluded Avalon 06 was the best show for me. Walked out of there in a happy daze... was blown away.

1. Radio City Music Hall...my first show
And then T5...nights 3,4,5...it was all so good...I left wet :thumbsup:
First time I saw them at the Electric Factory in 2006 was amazing (well all 5 times have been amazing). But the best show of theirs was probably the Festival Pier show in 2008. Played 26 songs for 2.5 hours and the rain started coming down during the beginning of Touch Me Pt. 2 and carried thru to Run Thru and One Big Holiday. As Jim would say, it was "sweetpickles". And while the MSG show was also epic, I was far from the stage and I'm a pit dude, so that hurts it for me.
However, Bonnaroo this year was awesome-sauce too, was right in front near the pit and was on boomers. I started peakin during Slow Slow Tune/Steam Engine/ Smokin From Shootin'/ Touch Me Part 2 block. That was probably the best block of live Jacket I've seen, it was insane. Dancefloors and Highly Suspicious w the Preservation Hall Jazz Band was a hoot too.
Can't wait for the Mann show, 8/23!

My 1st show was the best - The Orange Peel 03/08/07, then the others that followed RCMH, Myrtle Beach, Koka Booth.
My favourite show is probably last year's concert in Louisville around Halloween. The presence of the Louisville Youth Symphony Orchestra and the donning of Colonel Sanders costumes put the show over the top. The crowd and the setlist were terrific as well.

Ok the best show I've ever seen: Chicago August 10.
I just realized how awesome this setlist was, wow.
Highlights: Dancefloors, Easy Morning Rebel, Masterplan, Bermuda Hghway, Steam Engine, Carried Away, Anytime, Dondante, Tonight I Wanna Celebrate, Rolling Back intro, Circuital (pre-album release obviously)
So that was the first time I ssaw Steam, Bermuda, Dancefloors, Circuital and the only time I've seen EMR and Masterplan. Talk about setlist variety in 2010!!
its a really tough call between:
T5- It Still Moves
and
7/11 Kool Haus Toronto
at ISM i heard steam engine, masterplan, run thru, rollin back, IWSYS, it makes no difference & all night long. just an amazing show.
at kool haus i heard phone went west, lay low, the dark, highly suspicious, and 9/10 songs off circuital. not to mention no opener and a 3 hr set.
its a really tough call, but if i had to pick off of just setlists id go for T5 ISM, for the better overall show im goin Kool Haus. and thats really saying something. i also saw them at the CMAC on 8/28/2010(my MMJ cherrypopping), which was no pushover either.

Yea I was was willing to go $150 for the one that's on ebay right now, but still said reserve not met ??? ... Maybe it will still be there around Christmas....
yeah that guy who put it on ebay posted here that he was doing so. if the reserve for any of his 4 posters arent met into the 3 digits, probably not worth chasing after anyway

I was at that Jim solo set. Didn't realize until after t5 when BH posted that is was the first ever performance of Butch Cassidy. Met Jim that day too.

That theater is so incredible and the set flowed very well. I was also amazed at how much better the Z songs had gotten live since I first saw them at the Roxy the year before.
