why did you put stuff on ebay that has a 200+ dollar RESERVE. Kinda defeats the purpose of ebay ???
I mean I know that Portland 05 is possibly the most valued MMJ poster, but jeeze 200$ reserve
thats kinda how ebay works, and most auction houses. im not willing to sell below those prices.
i think the reserves are quite fair- and most people who collect these posters or follow the market closely would agree.

I also agree with your above post, kinda strange the seller didnt just list them with a Buy It Now price instead of setting up an auction with such high reserve prices.
From what I could tell, only the Portland sold and it was at 400$ exactly. But who knows if it was a real sale or the seller just bumping up his own prices. The RCMH print was at least 100$ shy of the reserve.

some of you guys need to tone it. especially you, north_faced. qestioning the integrity of the auctions is a dick move. all sales were legit and were listed exactly how i wanted them listed. :thumbsup:
I think some of you with the negative comments on here are a bit out of line, especially north-faced. Making accusations that are just ridiculous. There are plenty of reasons why a seller would start the auction at .01 and set a reserve vs. just starting the auction at $200...tons of reasons. That said, is it really anyone's business why the seller did it here? I don't think so. What he did is quite common in Ebay sales, maybe y'all should do some research before getting grumpy and tossing out accusations next time.

Not to beat a dead horse because I aint mad, but I can't think of one reason. Little help? Especially when the reserve is listed in the description.
a couple off the top of my head...
when you start an auction at .01 and set a reserve, you're a lot more likely to get several interested parties bidding on the item, you increase interest in the item. It's human (auction) nature to carried away in a bidding war. How many times have people bid way higher than they told themselves they would...they get all caught up in the adrenaline rush of it all, and just keep bidding. If you set a BIN you miss out on this, or if you do your starting price at the lowest you're willing to sell for, you might just turn off potential buyers with the high starting price...and they have lost interest. An auction gets people all excited...that's why in ebay they say you have 'won' the item. Everyone likes to win right?
also, the fees that ebay takes out are very different depending on how you set up your auction or sale. fees are based on not only final selling price, but initial bid price, or the BIN price, so that's a factor as well.
maybe 'tons' was a bad word choice on my part ;) but their are legitimate reasons for doing so.
i agree that about the human nature of the bidding. i assumed that was the reason, and i know eBay has a reserve system for a reason, but i don't agree with the misleading nature of having a 400$ gap between the starting bid and the reserve.
like bigherm, im not mad either. i only buy awesome posters when i find em for an awesome deal that i've stumbled on, and it happens from time to time. I got Burwell Pearl Jam for 40$, the LOST print for 10$, Portland 07 for 45$, and (2 copies of) portland 03 for 20$.

what's misleading about it? I don't get that. It's the way Ebay works, if you chose to use those options. I didn't see the sale, but someone mentioned that he listed his reserve price in the auction, if so...certainly not misleading. And if he didn't, still not misleading. Maybe some of you just aren't too familiar with the ins and outs of ebay, but I've done my share of poster buying and selling on ebay, this practice is not new nor misleading at all. If he set his reserve at $400 and his starting bid at $350 that would be absurd....his ebay fees would be way higher than if he started at $.01.
Ebay policies and fees can be real confusing, but when you understand how they work, as a seller there are some things you can be wise to in an effort to maximize your sale while minimizing your ebay fees.
ive only sold a handful of things on eBay, so maybe i'm not refined in the process enough.

it can be really confusing. trying to figure out your best strategy isn't always easy, lots of things to take into consideration. with something like this burwell poster, it's obviously worth quite a bit, but your target market is relatively small. There could be some potential would-be buyers that may not being looking on ebay that week. You'd be taking a big risk if you just started it at .01 and didn't set a reserve. Your other option is to start really high, then you risk scaring everyone off, and having to pay quite a bit of fees. There is of course a fee to set a reserve, and it can be a bit high...but, if your item sells, then ebay refunds you the fee you paid for the reserve. So, in this case, seems to have made a lot of sense to start low and set a reserve.

Doesn't naming the reserve price in the details sort of defeat this? Or am I still confused? Also, thanks for the info regarding the eBay fees. Never knew that :beer:
bottom line... lets hope the seller remembers to report every penny of that income he just made to the IRS come tax time. Would hate to see him get audited. Seems like a lot of these poster sellers and ebay people seem to forget that its all taxable income that must be reported. Although I have this feeling that a few people in the poster selling community might soon be in for a rude awakening...

wow-nice feeler thread you have started here. You found out which posters people were intersted in, then instead of selling them to anyone here you proceeded to put them up on ebay and came back here to direct traffic to your auctions. Good job!
