OK, so Manchester will be my first MMJ show and I was wondering what to expect, apart from some great music of course! Are they banterers? Are they loud (I like loud!)?
Its going to be a great end to three great weeks taking in Wilco last week and Bon Iver the week before. Can't wait.
The guy that pops in about halfway through the vid sums it up pretty well

Blasphemy...god no! Usually YY will take an opportunity at some point in the show to welcome the crowd and say something poetic about the city he is in, but otherwise, its all beautiful, mystical business.

Hey, Mark, so glad to hear you got those two songs. That really is awesome on top of last night's show. Say hi to SBB and Sunnyday. They must be in heaven!

They're not are they, but that's cool. I was a massive Husker Du fan and they barely ever said a word (mind you I also love Josh T Pearson who talks almost as much as he sings). Besides the band seemed to be having a lot of fun last night, Jim especially, which is always great for an audience to see,
So the show completely exceeded all my high expectations. And I couldn't have been happier when the first notes of Steam Enging were played. The one song I wanted to hear above all others.
Anyone able to compile a setlist?
Interesting to note that the gig was originally scheduled for the Academy 1 (capacity 2300), but was actually in Academy 2 last night (capacity 800).
Enjoyed the gig last night, very much. I'm wondering if anyone who knows can write a setlist from the night. Or tell me how many songs they sang before 'Golden'- I was in the pub losing track of time, which is ironic as that's a theme of the song!!.. I came in when MMJ were playing that. Just hope I didn't miss too much ???

lp will post a setlist once she gets it.
You can always check here, too. Manchester is not up, yet, however.

Yeah I did not expect that
I hate this venue, one tiny entrance in the far corner, and usually rammed. If you can get down the front, stay there because any attempt to go to the bat of the toilet is a dead loss.
gig was amazing what a band.my oh my. :) :D :) :D :D :) :D
What A Wonderful Man and Anytime looks good to me, I'd love to hear those in LA or Sand Diego next month!
First MMJ show, thought it was a great night!
Managed to grab a set list off the mixing desk guy at the end too!!
pretty decent setlist shake ups as of late
My first MMJ show too. Absolutely awesome. Looking forward to many more. In the meantime, for anyone who was there I have uploaded a few vids on YouTube. Link here for Black Metal. Enjoy!

Confessions of the bananabear Pt. 2... And yet again: If I don't make sense, or say something inappropriate it's probably because English isn't my native language, please forgive me. Also, this might be a bit redundant to longtime fans, again please bear with a woman completely awestruck by how awesome this band really is.
Okay so Mr. MarkW (from here on known as Mark in the text), being a true English gentleman, kindly gave Sunnyday and me a lift from Leeds to Manchester (via Liverpool) and proved to be an excellent driver, guide and DJ, hat off Mark! While driving Mark not only told us stories and pointed out important things to look at, he also played some excellent music, Dr. Dog among others (we still need that list Mark! ;)). We went to Liverpool before Manchester to visit The Beatles Story experience, which was really nice, among all the Beatles things Sunny found a photo of a truck with "His Master's Voice" written on it, which was kind of cool, photos might be added later. We also walked around Liverpool for a bit, saw more awesome buildings and had a very nice lunch before eventually heading for Manchester.
At this point we were a bit concerned that the band might think we were crazy stalkers if we made it close to the stage again, so while Mark cleverly disguised himself in a Clark Kent manner by using glasses (we're fairly sure it worked flawlessly), Sunny and I contemplated wigs. However in the end we decided the Swedishness could not be tamed nor disguised and besides, a viking never hides anyway. This was also the show where I realized that my dancing comes at a cost, without the rail to hold onto I accidentally kept dancing into a poor man's behind. Mark later explained to me that according to English tradition I'm now married to that man. Oh the universe works in mysterious ways... ;)
Anyhow, due to some trouble along the way, such as Britney Spears fans taking up all the taxis in town, we arrived a bit late to the venue and missed some of The Head and the Heart's set, which was quite sad, but at least we got there in time for Rivers and Roads, excellent as always.
Then MMJ, wordless love! Again Victory Dance was much appreciated as the opening song, it quickly sneaks up and grabs a hold of you and as soon as Jim started with the vocals I was in another world. It's truly brilliant on the record, but live... it just explodes live! It was followed by First Light, which worked out perfectly, Carl and his saxophone, YES! All three of us were thrilled about PWW, for me the highlight was Steam Engine, which is one of my absolute favorites. I was also very happy about Slow Slow Tune, as it's another favorite and Smokin From Shootin is always a pleasure, not to mention Anytime! Oh oops, there I go again about to name every song... ;) To keep this one short: After attending a show a Tumblr blogger simply wrote that "My Morning Jacket made me a better person" and as exaggerated as that might sound to someone outside of the fandom, that's kind of what it feels like. :D
Oh and also, the audience seemed to be a bit older than in Leeds, all in all I think it's fun to see that the MMJ crowd is so diverse, there are teenagers and there are pensioners and just about every age in between.
Done and dusted, onto Pt. 3! (or perhaps that one will wait until tomorrow)
Cool review SBB. It really was a pleasure to hang out with you guys for a couple of days, and happy to act as tour guide / chauffeur any time. Forum peeps are just the best.
PS - your drinking is out of control. You need to seek help from sparkling water anonymous. ;)

Thanks Mark! Lady K (aka Sunnyday) and I will be more than happy to guide you around when you come to Gothenburg, though since none of us have a driver's license... we'll have to drive you + wife around on bikes... might not be as comfortable, but hey, we'll do what we can! Or we could use the trams, either way really ;) And I thought we agreed you'd be discreet about my little drinking problem, I mean really, it's mostly to calm my nerves and the bottles are not that big anyway... ::)
