Great! I've got a good friend in Memphis that I can go with! Also, Rev. Al Green and Gary Clark, Jr.

I will assume you meant to put 05/04/12 - 05/06/12, unless the boys and us have a time machine handy.  ;)

Talked to Bo last week and he said MMJ will be there! Still don't know when the line-up will be announced though...anyone have any idea? Would love to try to do Jazz Fest and Beale Street if the dates are back-to-back...

That might be one of the main reasons I go to this...seems like setlists in 1st-time cities are the most unique.

I think 2 days at Jazz Fest and then road trippin' to MMJ @ Beale Street is in order

ditto my nitto..let's figure these dates out.
i'm trying to do the whole 10 days for Jazz Fest and not do any other festivals..it would be great to do both shows. the drive up to memphis is 5 hours or so from NOLA?

JP--agree we should put together some sort of trip up to see them in Memphis-those of us at Jazz Fest...

Post by: Fully on Jan 09, 2012, 12:06 PM
I used to live in Memphis and I'm pretty sure the drive is a little longer than five hours. I'm probably going to end up going to Memphis instead of going to Jazz Fest. I just don't think my bank account can handle the NOLA trip. Plus I want to go to 'roo this year and have a few other road trips. If y'all end up going to Memphis, let me know and I'll meet up with you.  I'd love to see you all again.

Pass.  No thank you to truncated set lists.  And as a warning - it rains EVERY year at the Beale Street Fest.  And it wouldn't be so bad except the show grounds are at the bottom of a hill and it gets muddy as hell.  But, if that's your thang, then go for it.

So true.  People seriously wear mud boots to the show.  Unbelievable how many shoes and flip flops and other clothing items end up in the mud after the show along with all the other trash.  that mud will suck your shoes right off!

It might be a lot, but I've done it before the other way. I'll be there at any rate. I'd love to meet up with y'all.

Saturday looks pretty good too. Jane's Addiction, Gary Clark, Jr. , Son  Volt, Childish Gambino,  Al Green,  etc.  I know some of you will be back at JazzFest, but for those of us who'll be in Memphis - this makes up for bonnaroo for me! And is that Megadeath that I see?!! :D :D :D :D

I saw Widespread Panic on fri on the same stage in 2010, and i think they had a 2:15  timeslot (like 10-12:15 or something) It was cut short by storms unfortunately.

Hopefully we'll get a full show :D

I didn't expect that! Thx for the info, will. A full show would be awesome. Anyone else have any experience with time slots?

If they get a full time slot for Beale Street, I might contemplate selling my jazz fest tickets for this one instead. decisions decisions...

After the show, don't forget to head up to Earnestine and Hazel's, a very trippy and ghost-filled after-hours bar.  Its the kinda place that is nearly empty all night until the clubs close and then it can be packed at 2AM with people grubbin' on "soul burgers".

http://www.bestmemphisburger.com/2011/08/12/earnestine-hazels/ (http://www.bestmemphisburger.com/2011/08/12/earnestine-hazels/)

Alot of movies and stuff get filmed there (21 Grams, I Walk The Line, Elizabethtown, etc).

After Beale St. Music Fest in 2004 or so, after Big Star played the festival, they did a late night set there.  It could be dead or it could be hopping, you just never know until you show up.

Since Megadeath is playing Friday night too, I'd really like to see Dave Mustaine play with Remnants with them. I can probably keep dreaming, but I'd be totally fine with it. Are you staying downtown, JP? I'll be at my friend's house in midtown. It would be great if we could meetup at some point.

I'd be more than fine with a Megaremnants  (http://www.forumsextreme.com/images/sAng_stirthepot.gif)  I'll be staying with a friend who lives somewhere just outside of downtown though, not sure where exactly. Not sure if I'll be coming in Thurs night or Fri either, but I know I'll be somewhere on the rail all day for NMS Allstars and Florence too. I'll PM you my digits

I could get behind that! Heck, I'd even be ok with a Psychotron cover ;D .

EasyRyder, please do! I'm getting in on Friday. I'll have my youngest daughter with me so she can entertain my friend's girls while we go to the festival. I doubt that we'll go until late afternoon/early evening on Saturday. If you can get to Germantown, try Los Tortugas. They have amazing Mexican food. It might be a little out of your way though.

Hey Fully, You had a great time in Memphis and then you opened this school year with a trip to RED Muthafuckin' Rocks! Oh yeah. There were two guys hopped up on adderall who stomped all over your toes in Memphis during Dr. Dog, but they've healed up pretty nicely!
