Title: Who's Flying to NYC?
Post by: Northern Neighbour on Dec 09, 2011, 01:35 PM
If you're flying to NYC, which airport are you flying into and what date (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) and time will you be arriving?  I ask to see if there are a lot of people arriving at the same time that maybe people could share a private car to into mid-town earlier.

My wife and I arrive from Ottawa via Toronto at 2:00 PM on Wednesday.

if you're flying into newark, perhaps easiest, and surely cheapest would be to get on a NJ transit train into penn station.  it's gridlock time in manhattan, so a car may really add a bit of time to your trip.  this is a portion of the schedule from newark airport to NY Penn if you are interested.  This is Wednesday afternoon, but there are trains all day long :)

I've looked into taking the train into the city since our hotel is really close to Penn Station and MSG.  However, our flight arrives just before 2:00.  After we get our bags, the next train we can catch is at 2:52.  That's about 45 minutes lost, and we could be in the city by then.  And before we meet up with everyone, I would like to stop at a camera store nearby.

Anyway, I use to live in Jersey, but I didn't travel to the City mid-day.  Will traffic into midtown be that bad at 2:15-2:30?

It's hard to say for sure, but i have always just avoided driving into the city at any time of day during the month of December  :o lots of gridlock-alert-days.
Also, are you checking bags or carrying on? If checking, you would be lucky to make the 2:52.  just saying :)  do I sound like a cynical Newark traveller? cause I am ;D ;D
Either way, safe travels and see you at the show!!!

Yeah, we'll likely have one bag to collect.  I've looked into changing our flights to earlier in the day, but the costs of prohibitive.  I guess we may have to meet everyone at the show and we may miss out on The Stout.

We have to check-in at least one bag as we'll be off to Calgary and Hawaii the next day.  NYC is the start of a two-week holiday for us.
