- Hacienda
Any combination of the above and I'll be over the moon. Am I dreaming?
WAR BEGUN w/fireworks :o
I'd say Sharon Jones + the Dap Kings is a done deal. Good Call!
Preservation Jazzzzzzzz
Wish list: Pearl jam, a second jacket show, roger waters, Paul Simon, flaming lips, Bruce, Tom petty, The Doors
Realistic list: MoF, Eddie Vedder, Sharon Jones, Delta Spirit, Lucero, Deer Tick, Dr. Dog, The Head and the Heart, Pres Hall, Wilco, Cabin, Wax Fang.
Eddie Vedder + Wilco + MMJ Headliners is my dream festival
I so want Wilco to be a headliner, I saw them earlier this year and they are ON TOP of their game. I don't want Eddie to headline, I would like to see him play a smaller stage and setting. Now If they could get PJ that would make my head explode.
Wilco Fri night
MMJ Sat night
PJ Sun Night
= Greatest lineup of all time
I'd say The Head and The Heart is another done deal. They were one of my favorite shows of Bonnaroo last year. Great mid day show to come down to.

Oh man, how could I forget the PHJB?!?!
Looking at the 2010 lineup, there were some pretty damn solid names in there. With AC looking to take this fest to the next level, I wouldn't be surprised to see an impressive top fifteen. Or maybe that's just because I want every single band mentioned in this thread to be there.
What I'd really like to see is MMJ and PJ do a Who cover set together. Start with Tommy, play a quick one in between, and end with Quadrophenia.
yeah, they need to have me curate one of these. :)

Ha, me too. People like to talk shit about AC Entertainment, but I love them. Let's not forget who MADE Bonnaroo. I live in Knoxville and Ashley Capps is the fucking man. Put AC together with MMJ and this is a can't miss. The bands you haven't heard of are probably going to end up being the best shows.
Purple Fang......Purple Fang
might as well shoot for the moon, neil young with or without crazy horse.
FIREWORKS
Wax Fang
I'd have my money's worth at that point.
Aside from that, Dr. Dog would be nice. As would the Bees.
Ms. Sharon Jones or Alabama Shakes
I've heard Andrew W.K. is touring. I can't think of a better way to open up a Festival.

I'd also be happy with something involving one of the following people in any incarnation:
Booker T
Warren Haynes
Les Claypool
Jack White
Yep, Dr. Dog has to be in there as well. Jim was onto them from the start. I recall him saying something about how these days no one played and recorded instruments like they do. Like The Beatles of our time.

Nothin new to add here that hasn't already been mentioned....
Plausible additions: Dr Dog, Wilco, J Roddy, Dead Confederate, Iron & Wine, Lucero, Deer Tick, Dawes, Delta Spirit, Johny Corndawg, Calexico, PHJB, Neko Case, M Ward
Long shots: Black Keys, Neil Young, Pearl Jam
if even half of the bands we're throwing around in here wind up at the festival this will be one helluva weekend.
Bob Dylan and Daniel Johnston are nice thoughts. Guided by Voices would be sweet.
Daniel Johnston doesn't seem like a dream... I saw him headline at Starry Nights Music Fest in 2010... A festival with less than 2,000 people.
Titus Andronicus and The Hold Steady would be high on my list.

then you need to come to Mt Jam with us! ;)
Ya, I hope John Prine makes it. I was gonna add Levon to the wishlist but I know that's out of the realm of possibilities.
Oh, also Arlo Guthrie. Jim's played gigs with him before and he's a great see.
Why is Levon out?
Levon is undergoing an operation next week and will be out of commission for a while, but he still has a date at Jazzfest, so I wouldn't say he's totally ruled out.
Didn't know Levon had a Jazzfest date. Heard he was done for good. Well, add him to my wishlist!
Now that I look at it actually, the Jazzfest lineup just has the "Levon Helm Band" billed, which is the same billing that the band gets at Rambles even when Levon isn't present. So perhaps Levon will be out of commission after all. Either way, hope he gets well soon!
The somewhat reunited Afghan Whigs. Just my wishful thinking, but they have only 4 festival shows booked - 3 in Europe in late May and early June and then curating the ATP deal in New Jersey in September. Big hole in the middle there, no Twilight shows, Kentucky Roots, JJ has talked about them as an influence. Just saying.

I'd like a little Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, War on Drugs, Wild Flag, and some Pearl Jam. Maybe Lambchop too.
I like M.Ward, but I can only take so much mellow and then he starts talking and that husky, smokey voice that just distracts me. All I do is imagine him saying ordinary things in that voice while whispering in my ear: Pass the salt, please; Where's the remote...etc. and then I get the giggles. That's true. IME it's not something that's totally pleasant or even very enjoyable...but that doesn't make it a
bad experience. Just may bring up some complicated emotions - similar feelings seeing Vic Chesnutt, Wesley Willis, Hope Sandoval, heck, even latter day Bob Dylan sometimes.

Insight from another local:
It won't be Pearl Jam or Eddie Vedder--they're still in Europe that weekend. (So that would also rule out Soundgarden.) Roger Waters and the Red Hot Chili Peppers both play Louisville's arena in June--though it's worth noting that the Chilis' shows in this region leave them darn close to Manchester, TN, right before Bonnaroo, with no dates scheduled for that weekend. So bet pretty heavily on them being at 'Roo.
Black Keys played Forecastle (as a two-piece) in 2009, so the relationship with the Festival is already there, and their amphitheater show in Louisville last year was well-received. M. Ward played as She & Him in 2010, plus there's the MoF connection, so he's a good bet.
A lot of the big names will be in Europe for festival season, and I don't know all schedules, but would love to see Foo Fighters again (haven't been to Louisville since 2000), or (dream of dreams) Springsteen (also not in Louisville since 2000, not in Kentucky since 2002).
July 10 is Pearl Jams last show in Europe.
I don't really want to see Red Hot Chilli Peppers without John Fruiscante
looks like pearl jam wraps up on the 10th in Europe - they could make it to Louisville for the 15th if they wanted - probably a long shot but possible

Maybe its the pessimism in me, but I really can't see PJ as a whole committing to Forecastle. Eddie Vedder I think would be more plausible.
I hope Foo isn't gonna be playing. They were my least favorite act of Hangout, by far.
Like others said, it won't be RHCP or Rogers.
Springsteen will be in Europe over the summer.
I really hope it isn't Black Keys. Really hope. Like others have said, headlining at a festival is NOT how I like my Keys. The age of me going to see the keys is over, I'm afraid.
I think the headliners will be more along the lines of Flaming Lips, WSP, MMJ caliber. Not Springsteen, PJ, Roger Waters....
But with AC now in the picture its really all up in the air.
As much as I'd love it, I'm gonna rule out PJ in my head right now. Considering they sold out a festival in September pretty much on their own, I'm gonna say they are a little bigger than Forecastle can handle at this point.
But then again, this fest DOES have to have two other big names and a solid top ten. I hope we're all in for some sweet surprises.
There defiantly needs to be a forum jam session somewhere.
Are we expecting the other headliners to be MMJ-sized? Who has headlined this thing in the past (and would that even be a good barometer since AC/Superfly is involved now, maybe it'll be bigger)?
Eddie Vedder is touring solo at that time and is on the west coast. With that being said he does have three days off during that time. Widespread has headlined the the last two and the black keys did in 09. The Flaming Lips closed last time with Smashing Pumpkins and WSP the other two headliners.
I would think the other two headliners would be at least MMJ-sized. Then again, I'm basically just looking for reasons to believe that Wilco will be one of the other headliners. Vedder would be too sweet as well. But are those three drawing from very similar fanbases? I'm thinkin' AC might wanna diversify a little, so I'm expecting a jamband in the top five, and probably a rap act in the top ten as well.
Thanks mgriff!
Would love to see Wilco there, wonder if they would be a headliner? ???

well since Superfly is involved, i'm expecting another big headliner..something more 'corporate' or 'amenable to the masses' such as Foo Fighters or RHCP (or even BK now)..
edited to add: WILCO would be a dream....
Those seem big :o
We'll probably get some clues from the Roo lineup, too - don't think they'd book too many of the same acts since the fests are so close together in terms of both timeframe and location.
Wilco is my choice also.
If only we could communicate our desires to AC.
Actually, if only AC would listen to our desires after we communicated them.
I'm sure 90% of the acts are all locked up now anyway. The Roo lineup is gonna be a big tell, as I'm betting one of the Forecastle headliners will be a top-ten at Roo (c'monnnnnnnnnnnnn Wilco!) and the other one won't be a Roo-er at all.

Girl Talk kind of rules....his set at Hangout last year was Flippin' incredible. I'd love for him to be at Forecastle.
My wishlist includes not being stressed out by presales with the incorrect link. And that concludes my bitchin' for today.
Here's one: Mark Lanegan. New album (first since '04 - with Jack Irons, Greg Dulli, and Josh Homme supporting - first track sounds promissing - holt shit, his voice is dark), his European tour will be concluded, and you can almost be assured that he'll be stateside for Dulli's deal in New Jersey.
Some festival over here is going to get the trifecta of Afghan Whigs, Queens of the Stone Age, and Lanegan. Might even get D. Grohl to play some drums since he has strong connections to both Dulli and Homme.

I like the cut of your jib.
My longest of long shot wishes: Replacements reunion.
Band of Horses is a good possibility too, played it before.
My head is spinning at the sheer unpredictability of this lineup.

Also, the only thing I hate more than dubstep are dubstep fans. They act like there's never been a better form of music ever and just don't shut up, ever, about "you like dubstep, bro?"

I got my tickets. Here's my wishlist in no special order. I haven't check whether any are a possibility (based on their tour dates, if any). I'd be happy to see any of these included.
Erykah Badu
Portugal. The Man
Yuck
Fruit Bats
Dr. Dog
Alberta Cross
Wooden Shjips
Fleet Foxes
Hacienda
Blitzen Trapper
Smith Westerns
Phoenix
Dead Confederate
Kurt Vile

How about alot of Pixies. Seem super unlikely thogugh - they just finished playing Dolittle live for like two years and don't have anything else scheduled right now. Read an interview with Joey Santiago where he said they had been tossing around the idea of doing the same thing with Surfer Rosa or even going into the studio - but that rumor will never go away. Neddless to say, I would sell all of my earthly possesions and walk to Kentucky from Florida if the Whigs and Pixies were in the same place at the same time with MMJ.
Mr. Bird has a new album coming out. He would sound wonderful in the 100 degree July dusk.

I agree...probably unlikely but that would be incredible. I just saw them on the Doolittle tour and it was amazing. they would blow Forecastle away.
Only one person has mentioned him, but Daniel Martin Moore has got to be a lock, at the very least for a late night show. Thoroughly enjoy that guy live.
Time out from predictions to express how much i love this whole thing, all of the circumstances involved in this.. I was and still am so bummed about missing terminal 5, and this is.... not... terminal 5 by any stretch of the imagination.. but what this is, is another indication of just how great it is to be a Jacket fan, and proof that these guys, even after all the success, aren't going into creative rest anytime soon.
In a way, and not really, but in a way, the whole festival is sort of like a My Morning Jacket DJ set.
Wish List which will totally expose my lack of knowledge of older and lesser known artists:
Prince
Neil Young
Wilco
Other Lives
MGMT
Band of Horses
Flaming Lips
Daniel Martin Moore
The Shins
Feist
edit: And the Black Angels would also be amazing.
I'd love to see Prince there too but that is probably a stretch. The 3 artists I've not seen that are on my bucket list are Prince, Radiohead, and Beck.

I consider MMJ outdoors worth price of admission (tier 1 at least). Even if the rest of the lineup is coldplay and rebecca black, I'll have no regrets. However, I'll just be really ,really drunk. Bourbon drunk for me is all smiles and blackouts.
My core wish is Fireworks at some point. Maybe you wanna freak out. I mean if Sunday's lineup is just awful, I might just go see if there are ponies running someplace to win back that day's worth of admission
Ponies be running at the downs in ju-ly. But I doubt you'll be let down by Sunday.

I just say it like it looks like it should sound. But the "correct" pronunciation is something like "fok-sel", not even close to what it looks like.

Damn, I'm gonna have to work on that pronunciation.
On another note, is anyone else feeling a combination of anxiety and dread in regards to the amount of festival lineups that will be announced in the next few weeks? Sasquatch, Hangout and Bonnaroo will all be announced before we get the Forecastle lineup. We may get a glimpse as to some smaller bands that may be on the circuit, but I'm also afraid some of these other fests may steal a desired headliner or two!
Also, don't know if anyone else was hopin' for 'em, but unfortunately Hacienda looks to be a confirmed no-go, as they are playing a festival in Toronto that weekend.

I'm glad someone brought this up. Those of us who work with boats pronounce it as above (it can also be spelled "fo'c'sl"), but I didn't know if the festival used the salty pronunciation or not. So by this you mean it does not? It's pronounced literally "forecastle"?
I'm happy enough to be seeing MMJ in L'ville that I'm not especially concerned about the lineup. But if it's good enough, I may take this year off for Bonnaroo.
Anyway, I forgot to include Raphael Saadiq on my long, pie-in-the-sky wishlist.
anybody think we'll get a new multitudes set?

I'm not. But that's probably because (a) this is the only festie I'd consider going to now, even though it's not a camper (b) if this goes right, it has to send a message that a bona-fide jacketfest can be done, (c) as much fun as I've had at Bonnaroo, their lineup for the past few years has close to zero appeal for me, and (d) I don't think the lineup at any other festival means a negative unless it's the same weekend. More often it seems like a headliner at one festival predicts headliners at others. My main concern is that this pulls true festival bands that are made for outdoor venues and not pure ticket grabbers. Ex: Death Cab. I like the music, but it just doesn't do it for me in a festival environment
most of these lists look more like what i think the real thing is gonna look like. i could definitely see wilco headlining another night and i'm sure all the bands that have opened for them will be there...doesn't really matter to me though...i'm pretty sure they were listening to us when we said we wanted an actual mmj fest...here it is folks...i just hope we get a show on a boat and all of us get on that boat, because if anyone deserves it, we do
exactly my man. i don't understand why so many people are bummed out that the announcement was that they're playing and organizing a festival in their hometown which one of their friends owns and runs. That has "mmj fest" written all over it.
While I'm positive that 50%+ of the line up is going to be AC Superfly chosen, if MMJ signs only 20 artists, and then local acts (such as cabin and wax fang are added) then we get one hell of an awesome weekend. think of the collaboration possibilities. If I can see The Roots and JJ of Dear God 2.0 and see MOF do Dear God 1.0. I'll be walking on sunshine. Plus the possibility of Wilco and Eddie Vedder??? I'm getting worked up thinking about it.
1 thing I have to say: Dr. Dog, the Head and the Heart, and a few others that I've learned of through the jacket are playing in louisville between now and then, which could cause problems.
The bell isn't the big, i can't see them doing a show there, that'd be a really low blow to a lot of fans.
Seriously I don't see how any MMJ fan could not be excited about this. Hell 100 is only about twice what MMJ tickets go for these days anyways. If I get 3 or 4 other bands I really want to see it will be a great deal and I fully expect to get way more bands than that. Plus it is a great excuse to spend a weekend in a really great city. What more could anyone want?
and, its on the waterfront, 20 feet away from a river, in the hometown, outdoors, etc etc etc... I'd honestly pay 100$ to see this show alone. I guarantee it will be on everyones list of favorite shows. It'll be up there with certain Roo shows, NYE, Red Rocks, whatever...

You and me both!
For years there has been a NJ-L'Ville connection with college b-ball. We've had many NJ guys play there, and for years we here in NJ were pronouncing it: Lew - E - Ville, only to find out in the past couple of years it's Looooville.
I hope we get a clarification on 4Castle before the fest. ;) Definitely don't want to be making a Lew E Ville type mistake all weekend. ;D
if you can't get excited about this festival then you aren't a true fan...the food alone is worth the trip! i honestly haven't really heard anyone not excited so that's aimed at anyone particular, however my neighbor pissed me off when i told him about it and invited him and he said "are they gonna play some decent covers?" he said he probably wont go so im not saying another word about it and telling him his spot is taken if he brings it back up. might have been the mood i was in but it just rubbed me the wrong way. i love the covers but i'm there to see the band play their songs...(crossing my fingers they go very heavy on the first 3 albums) actually the forum bunch going is enough to get me there...the fact that it's the mmj fest we have been yelling about for a few years is a huge plus!! i do believe the show(s) will be epic and like eric i doubt they really do end up on a boat but surely we will all have a good chance of making a special show later if they wind up playing somewhere. i really do believe with all my heart the people that come here every day and post their feelings, aspirations, dirty thoughts, and dreams are this bands heart and soul and i believe they think that too. i'm dead serious about that. i really don't think all of this is coincidence. they know what we want...we named the fan club if you think about it. roll call has been around for a very long time if you really think about it. anyway, can't wait to see all of you and even though i may not post all the time i look at this thing all the time and get too excited to sleep when i think about the possibilites of this festival.
ps.

I think I agree with what you're saying. It seems like they are constantly trying to 1 up themselves. I don't think T5 will ever be topped, as that was a once in a lifetime deal, but I think this is shaping up to be a strong runner up to it. I know they supposedly don't look at this forum but word has got to get back to them about the response this is getting. You can only think that they're going to plan accordingly. In my mind anyway!

Oops, shit! Forgot, Sethster. Follow me... (http://www.mymorningjacket.com/forum/index.php?topic=1630.msg294591#new)
T5 doesn't count. It's an orange compared to the apple of MMJ shows. Not saying they're bad, but as I told my friend whose first experience was EU night, he still hadn't seen a SHOW (that came at MSG last month). A show is when they figure out where they're gonna pull from and when, and they curate a listening experience for us. MSG is a show. 'Roo's are shows. Forecastle will be a show.
T5 will remain this moment where time ceased to exist and we got to have a time out from now and travel to another place and listen to an album done damn right.
:) Yeah.
I have never been disappointed in a show in da'ville! When the boys come home, they give it their all! I agree, I know there will be other great entertainment, but if I just get to see MMJ in their hometown, again, I will be over the moon! Plus the added thrill of all the old friends and new meeting up for a memorable time!

How could anyone be anything but really excited about the idea of MMJ hosting a festival?
I'm gonna go out on a limb and confirm the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Forecastle followed them on Twitter today, as well as liking several comments about them on Facebook. Not that it wasn't expected, but seeing how promising it looks for the PHJB at Forecastle this year has got me even more excited.
Wouldn't Jack White be a near guarantee? Between living in TN and having the solo album coming out, it'd be too perfect.

Unfortuanately Im certain that a few elcectro acts will be part of the madness. I predict girl talk and a dub step like bassnectar or skrillex. I hate elctro music.
I'm with you on this one. Hopefully they'll be corralled in the "boom che boom che" tent as I like to call it.
sorry boys, and i will preclude this with im old, but bassnectar was one of the best/most live sets in the history of forecastle. dylan you were there, you cannot deny it.
and my list...
WILCO
thievery corp

blitzen trapper

Agreed with Potsy....pretty lights and bassnectar blew shit up...you may not like it but i certainly do and they will make you move!nice list potsy.....really hope the roots and thievary get here

Wouldn't Jack White be a near guarantee? Between living in TN and having the solo album coming out, it'd be too perfect.
I am hoping but you never know with Jack. He lives in his own world...he is not very predictable which I love about him. I'm hoping at the very least he does some type of solo tour for this album. You know he will put together an amazing band. I'd also love to see the Dead Weather at Forecastle.

DBT just announced a show here in Pcola with Centro-Matic in april.. so for me i'd like to throw DBT and Centromatic into the mix. They're touring together, and Will Johnson (Centro-Matic) recorded that album with Yim Yames recently..
also I'd like to throw in another name for a pretty good southern band called Dead Confederate

I could def do with some DBT and DC
(this is going to sound NOT real but I was at the 40 Watt this past weekend and saw Walker from Dead Confed and begged him to play Forecastle---he had no idea if they were or not...i told him i saw them there in 2009--remember BH?!)

i don't mean to stretch the realm of possibility to thin, but because of all the whispers of having an unbelievable line up + AC's wallet in the mix + the Roo rumors - I won't be surprised if Phish or Radiohead play. It'd be both their first times in Louisville I believe. If Forecastle attracts 15,000 a day it could make sense. plus, paying a band an insane amount of money to play to a relatively small festival crowd could be quite the business decision for AC. Put the festival on the map as on the majors.
edit: i should've said 'or an act of that caliber'. AFter reading what I wrote + MMJ curating, I don't know why radiohead or phish would play, they have no tie to mmj as far as i know.
I don't know about you guys but I'm not going to get my hopes up that much.

phish has played louisville multiple times. going all the way back to two shows in '93 when the brown was still the macauley. also played the palace in '94 and the gardens in '95.

ahhh. well Ive never seen phish or really tried to get into them so I know little about them.

That's my favorite Steam Engine. Was a great day in the park :)

if you can't get excited about this festival then you aren't a true fan...the food alone is worth the trip! i honestly haven't really heard anyone not excited so that's aimed at anyone particular, however my neighbor pissed me off when i told him about it and invited him and he said "are they gonna play some decent covers?" he said he probably wont go so im not saying another word about it and telling him his spot is taken if he brings it back up. might have been the mood i was in but it just rubbed me the wrong way. i love the covers but i'm there to see the band play their songs...(crossing my fingers they go very heavy on the first 3 albums) actually the forum bunch going is enough to get me there...the fact that it's the mmj fest we have been yelling about for a few years is a huge plus!! i do believe the show(s) will be epic and like eric i doubt they really do end up on a boat but surely we will all have a good chance of making a special show later if they wind up playing somewhere. i really do believe with all my heart the people that come here every day and post their feelings, aspirations, dirty thoughts, and dreams are this bands heart and soul and i believe they think that too. i'm dead serious about that. i really don't think all of this is coincidence. they know what we want...we named the fan club if you think about it. roll call has been around for a very long time if you really think about it. anyway, can't wait to see all of you and even though i may not post all the time i look at this thing all the time and get too excited to sleep when i think about the possibilites of this festival.
after looking thru these threads this morning i saw this and thought to myself that many people that have been fans of this band for a lot longer than me and do not come back around here much but go to as many shows as we do probably think i am being stuck up about what i said regarding we are the heart and soul. let me just clarify that in all my times going to shows, i constantly meet hardcore fans that might have been on the forum before and for whatever reasons do not post anymore or never have heard about it but are huge fans. I know we post here a lot but as all of you will agree your rank of fandom should not be gauged by how many times you post on the band's forum. this probably isn't necessary but after re-reading this post i just didn't wanna come off as a douche because if we r rocking at a show i don't care who you are...if you are cool enough to watch the jacket...you are cool enough to watch em by me, hell, i'll probably even buy you a few beers. i know quite a few people that haven't posted in a few years but will be right there with us as they have been the whole time and know more than most of us on here combined. just hope that when these folks that dont post anymore read this they know i am not being an ass and really think the only true fans this band has are the ones that post on here because as we all know that is not the cast at all and won't ever be. thanks,
seth
p.s. this lineup can't come soon enough. how about some ha ha tonka...or some dangermuffin...i know you are looking...add em to the lineup...you will be glad you did...and lady, i just call em like i see em. ha
since i keep hearing this is going to be huge i'm going to go ahead and keep my fingers crossed for prince.

Pppllleeeaassee Tune Yards (I also refuse to type like a dumb young skank - that's what you said right?). I love the Tune Yards Whokill album. Can't stop listening to it!

3. Ben Sollee/Daniel Martin Moore-some mountaintop removal act
4. Fruit Bats
5. The Roots
6. Gary Clark, Jr. (for tbd)
7. Mavis Staples
8. PHJB
9. Foo Fighters (or RHCP)
10. Alabama Shakes

Today was the biggest day in my Forecastle lineup anticipation -- the drop of the Bonnaroo lineup.
Seeing as the same company is producing both festivals, I didn't anticipate many crossovers.
And Bonnaroo has no Wilco. No Jack White. No Neil Young.
Not saying any of them are locks for Forecastle. But daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn, this is lookin' good!!!

I kinda had the opposite reaction - that since the same company is producing both we might see some duplicates. I figure if they have a relationship with certain bands why wouldn't they go for a twofer?
I hope to see at least some of the Bonnaroo lineup at forecastle...
Namely:
Bon Iver
Delta Spirit
Feist
Dawes
The Avett Bros
Kurt Vile
I assume Radiohead and RHCP are not likely....
What is the reasoning behind someone not playing at both festivals? I'm confused.
Does anybody have any info on when we might get a lineup release?
Exactly BH. I remember AC entertainment booking bands for Bonnaroo and Knoxville's TN Theater and Bijou at the same time. I could see them booking bands for both festivals during the same phone call.
Quote from: TSarge on Feb 14, 2012, 12:16 PM
Does anybody have any info on when we might get a lineup release?
They said 4-6 weeks from the press conference and that was about 3 weeks ago.
Realistically, wouldn't they try and get people to come to BOTH festivals? They are going to need some different big name acts to attract the same people to two festivals within a month. I could see a lot of the undercards of both fests being shared, but for a festival that's trying to make a big splash and become a summer destination, don't you think Forecastle will want some headliners that won't be at Roo?
Basically, I'm just looking for any reason to believe Wilco and Jack will be in Louisville. And if I keep telling myself this, it will come true.

;D This is my reasoning too.
Also went ahead and booked a room at the Galt House so we don't have to drive across river to Georgetown every night.
Can't wait. :D
Also... no M. Ward at Bonna!
Bring 'im to Louisville!
I know we're all desperate for any info about lineup (it's not just me is it?) ... so of note, there are two other festivals that same weekend: Pitchfork in Chicago, and Bunbury in Ohio. So watching them will give some clues about what bands are off the list.
Bunbury just announced their 3 headliners today: Jane's Addiction, Weezer, and Death Cab. (no loss there IMO). They say more support acts announced next week. If you want to follow along it's http://www.bunburyfestival.com/ (http://www.bunburyfestival.com/)
Pitchfork hasn't made official announcement but hard-working sleuths have pieced together much of the lineup here http://festival-outlook.consequenceofsound.net/fests/view/823/pitchfork-music-festival (http://festival-outlook.consequenceofsound.net/fests/view/823/pitchfork-music-festival)
Pitchfork's not necessarily the same weekend. Fingers crossed it's not, because if so I'll be there and not in Kentucky.
The lineup announcement is "only a couple short weeks away" according to the forecastle facebook page. It also mentions that tier 2 tickets are almost sold out.
Let's get Dr. John to Forecastle! Has a new album coming out, recorded with a crack band put together by Dan Auerbach. Any band that has Nick Movshon on bass is not to be missed.

also rumor but I guess Tom Petty cancelled a show in Louisville and needs to make it up...Forecastle would be a nice way.

Agreed! Also think it'd be cool if more festivals had the word OPTIMUS in it.
So Snow Patrol is out then.
No Radiohead either, but I suppose I could break down and drive over to Manchester if I really must. I would like to see Caribou - but, I wasn't expecting them to be there.
Also, Ruckus - Optimus should be involved in every festival!

i'm not really too concerned with the lineup. the chance to go see my morning jacket curate a festival in their hometown...and stay in an on-site hotel for the same price as a bonnaroo ticket is enough for me.
that said, if wilco was announced as another headliner, that would really be special. what are the chances?

Not sure if this wish for Forecastle has been brought up before, but even if it has, it can't be brought up enough:

Those shows always blow me away. I always walk away saying "so that's why they're a legend". Paul Simon at Hangout was simply incredible.

what if jay farrar was there too and some other guys and wilco of course and a random uncle tupelo reunion broke out at forecastle. okay okay. i'm getting carried away..
before two months ago i wouldve said id give up my first born child for an uncle tupelo reunion... now not so much.
i think hell freezing over will be well before we see jeff and jay on the same stage again.

oh i'm aware that this won't be happening. it was just something that popped into my head...obviously due to the fact that wilco is possible for the fest, and jim is currently touring with jay.
but why do you say before two months ago? i thought it was pretty unlikely even last year. did something happen that i may have missed? haven't really been keeping up with music news lately.

LOL!
Bunbury, a competing festival (July 13-15) announces their full lineup today. They are saying 100 acts over 3 days on 6 stages, so it's a pretty big deal. I'm a little skeptical, given their competition (Forecastle and Latitudes) and the fact that the only bands announced so far, 3 headliners and 3 supports, aren't mindblowing (IMO).
I'm not sure if bands there make it less likely or more likely that they will be at Forecastle. Perhaps some bands will hit one festival one day, one another. Although I gather sometimes there are restrictions. So I guess I don't know what good it does to know this, but I'm hungry for any info so check it out at noon and read the tea leaves however you wish.

as mentioned earlier in the thread, latitudes lineup is announced and that's in England, so pretty sure that means scheduling conflicts for all those bands ;D

Is bunbury the one in Cinci? It's the most whack Fest ever if so. There's also Pitchfork, but that line up sucks too.

haha. gonna have to concur after seeing the headliners. weezer, jane's addiction and death cab for cutie. hmmmmmm. i wouldn't care to see any of these bands, although i did quite enjoy jane's addiction when i was in high school.
there's getting to be too many festivals, and some of them are just becoming laughable. i think there is a fest somewhere going on this summer that includes everclear, sugar ray, lit, marcy playground and the gin blossoms. i'm not gonna try and hate on all of those bands, but really??
where the fuck is hootie and the blowfish when you need them?
Margot and the Nuclear So-Sos, GroupLove, Guided By Voices are the only bands on that list that I wouldn't mind being added to Forecastle, but probably wouldn't watch them anyway. All in all, no real loss potential there, but tons of scary potential for bands to be on both since they're an hour away.
and from latitude - M83, Tune-Yards, and Alabama Shakes were all HIGH on my list for this summers festivals, so thats a bummer for me, but nothing compared to the MMJ Wilco factor that forecastle pulled

agreed- no-one on the list caused me to wince and think "damn we're not getting ___"; mostly it was a big huh? I almost feel bad for them with all the hating going on at facebook. Why they picked that weekend to launch a festival I do not know....
Only band on there I'd love at Forecastle is Manchester Orchestra. I can see both them and Margot coming to Forecastle 2012, too, since they played at Forecastle 2010. Also, Minus the Bear, RJD2 and Foxy Shazam. Just going by the fact with the Louisville bands anyhow that Forecastle seems to be keen on representing a healthy amount of past bands for the tenth anniversary. And, well, why not? Because coincidentally, all those previous Forecastle bands at Bunbury happen to be the only bands worth a damn at Bunbury, anyhow.
foxy shazam has some members from louisville i think, so i can see them playing again for sure.
after looking again - wow - just terrible. they mustve been sitting around thinking, "what major bands of yesterday can we get that have very little power to draw travelers?"
there are seriously only like 5 bands on that line up that are coming up rather than going down.

That was my thought when I saw The Beach Boys and Alice Cooper on this year's Bonnaroo lineup.
