I know I'm a newbie to the forum, but I've been a fan for the last few years and this will be my first chance to see The Jacket live, and three nights at that. You can add me to the list. Driving up Tuesday from San Diego, will be staying at the Best Western on Sunset all week. See you all there.

I was Sisyphus before on the old new board, and I had been on this board as exist10z (was roll called for the MSG show last December), so I guess I am back to exist10z. Either way I am going to be at the shows with bells on, or at least a shirt and pants.
Couple quick questions, anyone have any idea what time the doors open, what time to get in line? I have roll call, so I can get in the early entry line, thoughts on a time for that? Also, can I still get tix for the soundcheck? Should I go to the soundcheck? I have never been to one.
I called the Wiltern, they said doors at 7:00, show at 8:00. Roll Call early entry would likely be 30 minutes prior to regular doors time. Until I get different info, I'm gonna plan on being there at 6:00 for Roll Call early entry (which isn't even confirmed yet, but I'm assuming its gonna happen. The box office person thought they heard the band was gonna have early entry for its fan club, so its most likely happening.)

I changed it a few months ago to the giant golden statue of David from Downtown Louisville. If you see this guy who is singing in line, or with early entry on night one, I am the guy with him. Frank is not really familiar with MMJ. Hope to blow his mind. The Girl Who Radiates That Charm (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsUUkOjZ1g0#)
I like your name better as rincon too. Something about Ventucky and that picture just gave me too many hillbilly vibes.

When the forum changed last time I decided to change my name to something more relevant. Ventucky is slang (not so complimentary) for Ventura, and the boys are from Kentucky. Rincon is also a reference to Ventura, a 15 mile stretch of killer beaches between Ventura and Santa Barbara. After going to Louisville, and other parts of Kentucky earlier this summer I felt guilty for the toothless bastard photo and replaced it with something I saw in Louisville, which was a great town. My experience everywhere I went in Ky was great, with the possible exception of the cheap, drug, criminal infested looking motel in Elizabethtown.
would really be nice to get some hard confirms from roll call on early entry. I'm heading up from Anaheim and trying to arrange plans/meetups with other folks.
LA is not exactly an easy city to make last minute driving plans

Coming down from Ventura County is a longer drive mileage wise, but coming up from OC is the longest 30 miles on earth. Good luck!
Old Format is BACK!!!!
Can't wait, looks like there is also a different poster for each night from what I've seen.
I'm ROLL CALLing for the show but honestly I did not get Official ROLL CALL in time because I didn't think MMJ would come back to the West Coast and do this.
What is everyone doing around the area next week?
See that poster is WRONG! I THINK!
Shabazz Palaces is supposed to open up on 9/13 not 9/12. Did something change?
I have the same issue as gardenparty, coming up from Huntington Beach, it's gonna be dreadful. I am thinking of trying to get there around 6, so I guess I should leave around noon, aaarrgghhhh. Seriously, considering trying to get a motel in LA for maybe Wednesday and Thursday nights just to avoid the drive. It would be good to have an idea of what time to arrive though, but from the information above 6-6:30 should be safe for getting on the floor.
If anyone knows anyone who needs a Tuesday, I still have one left (that my wife will use if forced), if someone wants to go last minute.
Can't wait for these shows, can't believe it's next week, hoping to hear everything.

I snagged the image from the website's Freebie Friday posting today. I didn't notice the opener mismatch; should be Iron and Wine on the 12th, and I'm pretty sure that's the date on that image. Curious. Mysterious. ___________________.

Maybe they are changing the dates of the openers and just haven't told us yet. I would rather Iron and Wine open up the last night myself.
Maybe they just fucked it up.
This is from the Roll Call website re: Roll Call early entry for all 3 Wiltern shows:
Meet up Time: 6:45pm
Meet up Location: Line up at the entrance on Western
Box Office Opens: 6:00pm
Box Office Location: Entrance on the Western side of the venue
Parking: There is street/garage parking nearby
Be sure to follow @mmjrollcall on Twitter. We will be providing real time updates regarding First Entry (and Soundcheck Party) details for each show.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE EITHER YOUR 2011 ROLL CALL MEMBERSHIP CARD OR 2012 ROLL CALL LAMINATE FOR FIRST ENTRY:
Please email RollCallLam@gmail.com at least 2 DAYS PRIOR to the show you're attending. ONLY the membership card OR laminate will allow you early entry. Venue staff working the First Entry Entrance will not accept print outs, ID, or Roll Call Soundcheck Party Wristband. You MUST coordinate with ground(ctrl) in advance.

Yeah that's the most logical reason but lets hope for their sake they didn't already print out the actual posters in bulk.
I think the opener is right and the date is wrong. The roman numeral 3 at the top seems to indicate this is the 3rd poster in a set...maybe. Who knows.

That 6:45 meet up time seems strange. All the other shows I went to this tour that started at 7 had meet up times of 5:30. Also, does anyone know the venue curfew for the Wiltern?

The shows start at 8:00, not 7:00. The regular entry doors open at 7:00. I don't know of any curfew at the Wiltern. Its indoors, no noise ordinances, so no curfew for that reason.
We're hitting the road tomorrow around 10:00 a.m. Too excited to wait til Tuesday to drive down from NorCal.

Great news for the LA crowd. As I wrote on FB, opportunity for the band to play some deep, deep cuts /rarities and covers, especially if they play their average of 23-25 songs per show.

I'm expecting like 7 covers over the course of 3 days.
It's so hard to focus on work today. My first ever live MMJ experience and no repeats. I'm thinking I might leave work even earlier tomorrow than I originally planned. Supposing I hit the road at 11am from San Diego I can be in LA by 1pm, check into my hotel, relax for a few hours, then head over for roll call. I can't wait!!! :cheesy:
Getting really excited now. If they keep this schedule up over the 3 days, you're talking about 7.5 hours of music and no repeats?! Wow.
The Wiltern
First night of a three night stand tomorrow night (9/11) with My Morning Jacket and Portugal. The Man.
Doors- 7pm
Portugal. The Man- 8-9pm

crowd was not above par but a tuesday of a three night run is tough. I think we'll pull it together for the next rounds

My friend that I took is a locally renowned musician. His assessment of the show was every song was built up like the last song of a show. He said it is like an orgasm in every song, and he thought it was too much. Well, I have been a fan of his for almost 30 years. I agree with his description, disagree with his perception. What he saw as a negative, I think most of us agree is a serious positive.

Wow! Wow! What a setlist! War Begun, I Will Sing, and Strangulation in the same set, not to mention the others..
ANDDD, they got Circuital, It Beats, Freak Out, I'm Amazed, Anytime, and TMP2 out of the way. That doesn't leave a whole lot in the way of their other mainstays for the other two nights, so the possibilities are endless.
with the exception of I'm Amazed, Lowdown all the way to Anytime is amazing.
Pretty awesome setlist.

Yeah, best yet for me as well. Hard to make a definite call with it being so fresh, there's still the night after 'glow' - turned up to 11, because we get two more nights. And MSG NYE will always have a special spot for me, as it was my 40th birthday and I was with my closest friends. But my other shows were either outside or at MSG (up in the seats), so seeing them in this small venue is just outstanding.
I was on the second level 'rail'. Was one of the first in and had a wristband, but thought I'd try the eye level view last night. Think I am heading into the scrum tonight, we'll see...
The PWW close, similar to the Red Rocks which I thought was the best version I ever heard, was amazing. Can't wait to see what they have in store tonight. Tyrone, please.

I think he might be just a wee bit jealous of their prowess.
I was thinking that as well.
He was playing the same local circuit 25 years ago as Toad the Wet Sprocket. I saw them in a bar right after they made it big. He was there also and seemed perplexed why they were so successful. I think it was the same thing. But he is one hell of a nice guy anyway.

Missed ya @ mozza, good to see you & jaye? Upfront. We loved our spot. See u 2nite!
Yes that was me  but I think I'm going to be near where you guys were. That stage is high so it's a little harder to be that close. Plus I'm bringing a friend who hasn't seen them and not sure she'd be up for the pit. See you in line!

Holy shit!!! Fucking amazing show!!! Best Jacket show I've seen, seriously.
Glad it was so good after the hassle at will call. Hope that gets worked out today! Thanks for getting my ticket.

You're very welcome jaye, just glad I could help and it all worked out.
Was a little 'freaked out' that two people were relying on me for tickets and they only had me down for 1 extra, thank goodness the will-call guy just gave in to my pleading and avoided the hassle by just giving me the extra ticket. I currently have 5 messages in to grnd(cntrl) about this mix up, still waiting to see if they are gonna fix it, but at least tonight I can come prepared with a print out of my receipt showing my purchases.
If you decide to go that route, the front row of the second level was a pretty great spot to watch the show.
Exist, you must be the fellow I was talking to outside the venue, even you were panicking re only having 1 tix at box ofc. Hello!

Quite possibly, I was trying to be cool about it, stay relaxed, but I didn't want to come up short for anyone, jaye drove all the way down from the Bay Area and my other ticket was for someone going to their first show. I would've felt terrible if I didn't have those tickets.
That was the darkest MMJ show I've seen since '06. Had that more serious gravamen I from '05/'06 Z Tour. No stage banter, all-business and easily the best Jacket show I've seen since 6/13/08. Can't wait to see what's up tonight.

lthe band was pretty spectacular last night
How crowded did it get on the floor last night? hard to get up front?
Is the balcony assigned seating?
Any one have 2 tickets for tonight (Wed 9/12) in 1st couple rows of loge balcony that you'd like to trade for my 2 GA floor?
Thanks

I was able to be second from the front in front of Jim's mike, then get a beer, and actually be in the very front. I left after a while. TOO LOUD. I think I will be front row, first tier tonight.

Wow! that doesn't sound bad at all! and I forgot about the tiers. Thanks!
Really hoping these shows pop up as official bootlegs...
Few thoughts...
1. The setlist was AWESOME!!!!
2. I Will Sing You Songs was my fav moment from the evening and I think I had an out of body experience.
3. Might have been my fav MMJ Show (Gibson was pretty sweet)
4. Jim def didn't say a word, but he had some nice moments with the floor crowd. A lot of finger touching...haha
5. Patrick was def into it last night
(negative nancy time)
6. The crowd on the floor kind of sucked. There too many drunk talkers who were not even paying attention to the show. Too many drunk dancers who were being a bit too aggressive with their "moves"
7. Very surprised the upstairs was half filled. wtf?!

Rincon, what're you gonna do about this? I emailed to five different grnd(cntrl) links today and haven't heard a thing back. Tried calling too, no answer. Wasn't that worried because I figured tonight I could just print out my confirmation e-mail, but since you had that last night, now I'm worried.

GOOD NEWS. I tried Ground Control by telephone. No luck. Tried by Email, they never sent a password. Tried the phone again. Got a live guy. He was amazed and ashamed. I told him I was not the only one. He called the Witern ticket office, and they are double checking their list with the actual orders. Keep your receipt. Wiltern says it will not happen again. I am the 50ish guy with a green Louisville Slugger shirt on, with my 22 year old son. See you there.

I hope not, I have tix for gardenparty and meatplate. I messaged Wade and CC, they both got back to me fast, Wade was looking into it. Bringing my confirmations, hopefully it'll be fine.
That was a seriously kick-butt show. It was my first MMJ, as well as my girlfriend's... needless to say we were both amazed and mesmerized. We were both just like "What the f- is happening?" The show was unpredictable in the best possible way and just out of this world.
I'm going tonight by myself and the girlfriend is coming with me again on Thursday. What a good rock n' roll week.
My Morning Jacket - Easy Morning Rebel - live Wiltern, September 11, 2012 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DARU3Qy3hgk#)
This guy has a bunch of great videos this show
Crowd was energized tonight. Last night i was way up front and could tell it was a little light. Tonight i was in the back and could see the whole crowd having a blast.
Tonight was a bit more upbeat but Jim has still not said a word. Not even a "How Ya'll doin?". I like it. band has played possessed the last two nights and i'm sure he'll break the silence tomorrow.
again, i don't have the full setlist but some highlights:
Rollin Back opener
Rock the Casbah with Sam Beam holding lyric cards
Picture of You
Hopefully
I Will Be There When You Die
some others played - Aluminum Park, Way That He Sings, What A Wonderful Man, Heartbreakin Man, Isn't it a Pity (w/Sam Beam), Steam Engine, First Light, Mahgeetah Closer
A ton more to be named tomorrow. Currently blanking :cheesy:
overall great crowd, great show. Night one still takes the cake for me as far as setlist. but tonight was all around a better show taking audience into account
You better call TYRONE!!!

Even though I felt like shit when I arrived at this show, mostly from sound damage the night before, for many reasons, I think this was the best concert I have ever been to. I shared it with my son, and some very cool people in the back level on the bar stools.
how could i forget my second favorite MMJ cover? hence the :cheesy:
I don't think they played Come Closer(Mahgeetah closed the show). However, there was one song in the main set i don't know.
I may have a little more time before the next show to get together with some folks here. Anyone interested in a pre show snack and drink?
Damn, Picture of You! Did they play the extended jam at the end or was it more like the album version?

Anyone catch that Sam Beam cover during his opening set, an acoustic New Order song!
Another great show!!! My Girlfriend was able to make it last minute and we got into the pit and wound up down center close to the front. The band sounded incredible tonight. Cobra was super kick ass - I love the Steve Miller vibe on that tune. Also - Slow, Slow Tune rocked very hard... great guitar work. Isn't It A Pity was awesome... kick butt slide guitar tones going on all over that one. It was fun to watch the band play while Sam sang lead some. Picture of You had a killer jam at the end... Everyone around me was kind moving to the song a bit and then by the end of the jam everyone was dancing and screaming their brains out. Great show.
Can't wait to do it all again tomorrow.
This band is seriously a bunch of musical wizards.

oh there's the setlist above.
that's a nice funky run: EU, Tyrone, Cobra
Rollin Back has to be a top 5 opener. Next to the OBH opener from MPP '10, this year's Raleigh Rollin Back opener was one of my favorites.

I enjoyed his set, though he didn't play Boy w/ a Coin, which was a bit of a letdown.
Ok this has to be one of my favorite set lists of the tour and damn you got extended jam at the end of "Picture of You"! "Carried Away", "IWBTWYD", "Aluminum Park" "Cobra", "Tyrone", and "Rock the Kasbah". I am stunned!
I really hope this show surfaces online!

Regular doors open at 7ish. It looks like most of the people who are in the gernal line are getting wristbands, but I go in early with roll-call, so I can't be sure. I would line up with the general entrance line fairly if it's important to you, probably by 6-6:30 at the latest. Good luck.

It takes about 3 minutes to let the Roll Call line in, then followed by general public. There are a limited amount of wristbands, and I am not sure how they are decided, first come first served, or something on the ticket, but if you are in line when the doors open, I bet you could get one.
thanks peoples!
Pit wristbands at The Wiltern are determined by first come first serve for those with GA tickets.

last night I got in line at about 6:45. the end of the line was already around the corner. It started moving a little bit after 7 & it went pretty quick. We had GA tix but stopped at the restroom 1st, then to pit. They give wristbands at pit opening just left of center. we got one no problem still at that point. So they dont go super fast, but it is 1st come 1st serve. So glad we got them. looking back during opener & MMJ & the upper tiers looked packed with wall to wall people. The pit had a lot of breathing room & we got 3 people from stage right in front of Jim. Have fun, should be another epic night!

I'd venture to say that the night three setlist is one of the greatest I've ever seen.
So. Much. Goodness.
Yeah the main set is pretty damn great, but I'd personally take either of the first two nights encores over night three's encore though.
Looking at these three shows as a whole, I'm happy for those that managed to get to all three, and can't wait for the Port Chester three night run. I'd take the songs selected for LA in PC in a heartbeat.

Wow!! The three greatest night of music I have ever experienced. I only did a few videos, but I noticed they all had Jim in the poncho. Here is one from the final show. Zack Galifinakis showed up in the VIP pit where the mixing board was, about 10 seconds before the lights went out to start the show. He is very short. More comments and thanks to follow, for it is bedtime. My Morning Jacket Touch Me pt 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzX-w5uxjIA#ws)
Awesome! High praise from such a veteran of rock shows. They dug pretty deep. It's gonna be a long 3 months until Port Chester
Dancefloors smoked.
the billy ocean tune was....an interesting choice.
curtis mayfield's move on up was insane.
i'm beat,
or i mean lionel ritchie....
So how were they night 3, i mean, did Jim maintain the silence and keep chuggin? Personally, I think their best shows come when they are all business. I saw a few shows this summer where they really got goofy on stage and it was still a fun time but it's just different when they have that somber, haunting thing going.
Night 1 (the middle setlist) really does it for me.. War Begun, Strangulation, I Will Sing. I don't care how many times i hear them, always amazing.
wow! Have the played All Night Long anywhere other than NYE at the Fillmore in 2006 and Terminal 5? Those are the only times I've heard it. I don't necessarily follow the setlists too much though.
what a run! i'm beat

99.9% sure it hasn't been played since NYE 06.
Also Never Tear Us Apart had been like 9-10 years I think before the RR bust out...
What a run indeed. I had to miss night 2, but still feel I got my fix.
Night 1 was prob my fav MMJ to date. Night 3 was no light weight either

Basically the whole week was shot for me (in the best possible way!), I thought I might be able to get back to 'normal' today, but it's nearly 10am, been awake for a couple hours, and I can already feel it's going to take all weekend to recuperate.
RIDICULOUS RUN! They rule. I was blown away even though i've seen them a bunch before.
I had so much fun. Today I feel like sweetpickles!
THANK YOU MMJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Check out this video from the first night, especially the end (around 6:00). Jim gets up close and personal. Pretty cool.
i think this may be the greatest homemade Jacket video ever.
i concur, that was soooo different, sooooo cool. i'm soooo envious.
iwsys is my holy grail.....still haven't caught it live, but i continue to enjoy the quest.
so what was the most popular song not played? In case that doesn't make sense, what song is most surprising to be left off the lists?

And it is BEAUTIFUL. Touch Me Pt. 2 just killed.
Does anyone know about how long last night's Dondante was? The jam they added before it was so heavy.
It was my first time experiencing the Jacket live, and what a great start. I was sad not to get "Bermuda Highway", as that was the one of the few specific songs I was hoping to see which did not make it. Oh well, just gives me a reason to go see them next time. I can't say too much that hasn't already been said in the previous 8 pages. Night 1 I was in the back of the lower floor, then Nights 2 and 3 on the rail in front of Carl, and I'm glad I moved up there because I felt much more energized. Dog tired today after not getting to bed until 3:15 and being up 3 hours later for work, but will definitely be recovering over the weekend.
I've seen night 1 referred to as the "dark" set around here and night 2 referred to as more "rock n roll" - well night 3 to me seemed like The Awesome Feel Good/Everybody Love Each Other set. The band was just smoking (as they were all nights) - but last night was a real party at the Wiltern. So much dancing and fun had.
Lionel Richie - All Night Long -!!!!! Holy crap was this a great version of the song...
Loved the horn sectiong - Dancefloors was killer.
Dondante was magnificent!!! This was my favorite thing from all 3 nights combined - so psychedelic and epic. Well done.
Outta My System was the shit live. What a great song!
I also want to give some love to Oh Sweet Nuthin - which rocked my socks off.
My girlfriend and I managed to make it to all three nights. We were in the pit closer to the center of the stage on night 2 and we were right in front of Jim last night, which was a great place to be. We got setlists from night 2 and 3, thanks to my girlfriend of course (they don't hand those things out to guys it seems...) I can't pick a favorite of the 3 nights, each was unique and special in it's own right. It was a ridiculous, fun, psychedelic experience overall and now I can say, with certainty, that I will never miss another My Morning Jacket show when they come to town. This band is seriously on fire and love what they do. And they kick serious ass, as well.
Thank you to everyone at My Morning Jacket for a kick butt week!
danimal, i think i may have met you in the line before the show. Were you in the Beatles shirt?
I know i talked to a dude named dan outside and then saw him and girlfriend rocking out in front of Jim last night. if so

Yeah! That was totally me! Great to meet you.
Dancefloors with the horn section was my favorite performance of the entire run and that is saying a lot. But for me '72 Stones-style rock 'n' roll with a horn section is the holy grail. Dancefloors is already nearly there, but when you add the horn section into an already pounding Chuck Berry/classic soul riff, it just doesn't get any better than that! Jim's high kicks ala Van Morrison in The Last Waltz are so freakin' awesome, I love that man!
Coming into Dancefloors from a horn-driven Highly Suspicious was brilliant, too.
So the horns (three piece section, trumpet, trombone and sax, I believe) were never introduced by name, but they played on Highly Suspicious, Dancefloors, Black Metal, All Night Long, Move On Up (which because of horns was way better than the really good version at Red Rocks) and One Big Holiday. All Night Long had that place DANCIN'!!!!!, so much fun to see a hipster LA crowd lose their seriousness and let it all hang out on that guilty pleasure of a song.
Night 1, as the hardest rocking and most energetic (at least from my perspective) was still my fave of the run and also my fave Jacket show out of the 9 I've seen now (not having been around for the epic shows of the past). I thought Night 2 was mellow and folky and then night 3 was funky, putting the flavor of each night's Jacket show in line with the openers. Portugal the Man were damn good, they came out slamming a Sabbath-heavy riff, tight as hell, machine-like in their precision (exactly what I love about MMJ and Wilco). Vocals were the only weak point for me, but the music was excellent. I was not into Iron and Wine or Shabbazz, to put it politely. But I like straight up rock, that's just me. So not my favorite openers for MMJ (would've vastly preferred Everest or Sharon Jones again) but MMJ's sets were nothing less than amazing each night. We really scored and feel super-lucky to get to see MMJ when they are still on fire playing three nights of brilliant rock. Night 1 had me feeling like MMJ are for sure the best live band on the planet right now and probably in the top ten of all time rock bands who kill it live.

21 Minutes
I looked at the clock on the side of the stage, I was on the Rail in front of Tom last night.
Night 1 was my Favorite of the 3 Shows. Sam threw me a Rock The Casbah Lyrics show Poster and I got Night 1 and Night 3's setlists.
I'm kinda deaf right now. Really great time. Everynight was a different feeling.

And I'm just reading the comment above my previous one and I have to agree with DanceFloors. During/After that song show just got flat out fun after Night 2's more laid back Tone.
Oh, yeah, the other highlight of the run was seeing Ron Jeremy holding court at the Rainbow Bar and Grill on Sunset at 1AM on a Wed night! Just kidding, but that is a fun bar late night.

If I had to pick one I would say dancefloors is my favorite mmj song...that's saying a lot
I've never seen Carl get into the show as much I did at other MMJ Shows. This was only number 9 for me but he was sort of on MVP Mode Every Single Night.
All I'm hoping for is one MMJ LA Show next year and a Jim solo show at Spreckles Theater in San Diego.
I would definitely do Santa Barbara again if they did 2 nights back to back there.

I was sitting at the bar chairs in the back until Dondante. I wormed my way up to just second in front of Jim for OBH. During the solo he kicked his boot out and a girl grabbed the toe of his boot, and Jim let her hold it a couple of seconds directly in front of me. Was that your girlfriend?

I loved every minute of the three nights, from every vantage point. I got some more pics that I will send you from last night. Glad to have met you, Shug, Tubetop again, Yvonne, missed ChiefOkono, that I met at New Multitudes, and very sorry Penny Lane did not make it. Maybe I will meet her at a DBT show. After 33 years of concerts, I have never seen anything like that. My friend Bill was blown away, as was my son night 2, and he never listens to my music. Ironically, Frank, my musician friend that I took to night one, thought they gave too much, which is why we love them.
I got a finger touch during Touch Me Part 1 and Victory Dance from Jim on Night 3.
But at the end of Night 2 Jim gave me a huge high five right after the closer Mahgeetah.
So I was the only one he touched during the show except Sam during the George Harrison song.

Hey gardenparty..LD here..It was nice meeting you too!!!Drive went smoothly but a little melancholy that the 3 run is over!! Spent time digesting the whole experience on the way home and like we both said after the 3rd show, night 1 and 3 were close!!
The entire vibe on the first night made it epic for me! Hearing Rocket Man, It Makes No Difference and Gideon were highlights for me!! Last night, Oh Sweet Nuthin and DanceFloors were my other highlights, and experiencing everyone singing along and dancing to Lionel Richie's All Night Long was such a feel good moment!! I also met Gideon on the last night, thanks tube top for that--he's cuter in person  A big thanks to vespachick for keeping the personnel at the Wiltern in line for catering to Roll Call people!!! Good times everyone and hope to see ya'll soon!!

Absolutely no way to logically rank these show. What I have read here, and in the reviews, is debating 1 or 3 as the best show. I have no horse in this race, but how could show 2, with Steam Engine, Mahgetah, Cobra, Tyrone, and O is the one, plus a few more gems,be possibly considered the least of the three?

Ranking them is impossible for me. Night one was amazing because it 'kicked off' the run, so much anticipation. The close night three, with the rousing All Night Long, Move On Up, into the tradional closing OBH, such a great finale. But like you said, night two? How could you rank that 'below' anything. For me at least, hearing Tyrone for the first time, my favorite of their 'regular' covers, It Makes No Difference w/ Sam Beam (I love The Band), Steam Engine - a top 5 favorite for me, and my first O is the One, that set takes a backseat to no set. As others have said, so much goodness...

Sorry Erik, but It Makes No Difference was night one. Like for you and me any of it Makes Any Difference. (the irony was not intended, it just happened)

I like that review, well summed up. Agreed with most of his takes. Not sure I could say that night three was 'the best', but it's like trying to choose between children (at least I imagine), each night was special in it's own way.

Ah, right you are, maybe night one was the best... Nah, just kidding. I of course meant Isn't It A Pity. Everything else I wrote stands though, just sub in Isn't It A Pity w/ Sam Beam and (I love George Harrison) and I still could never put them in any particular order.
I don't think I'd trade any of the nights for any other live music experience I have every had. As you wrote in another post, the venue was an amazing spot for the run, big enough for the band, but intimate too. The sound was great, the sight lines were great, I even thought the crowd was decent, nothing detracted from my experience.
The only downside... Now I feel like an addict, I just want more!

I got a finger touch during Touch Me Part 1 and Victory Dance from Jim on Night 3.
But at the end of Night 2 Jim gave me a huge high five right after the closer Mahgeetah.
So I was the only one he touched during the show except Sam during the George Harrison song.
AH MAH GAH! Going for fingertouching at the Greek. I've gotten a couple hard core stares and a definite wave. But never actual physical contact (save for my kick ass avatar, oh yeah.) I'm ok with my stalkerishness. Let's just hope that everyone else is.

We were just a few people over toward house right from where the kicking was going on. We were almost right in front of Jim's mic/monitors.

I totally get that.
I have a favorite from the T5 shows, but can't really rank the rest of them. When I look back, it's more like one event. Five shows with a 24 hour encore break in between. (48 for ISM-Z)
Could not agree more about it being more like one event.

No I got the clean poster with lyrics, I'll post pics later. Maybe the 2nd one Sam Handed out.
I was on the rail the 2nd two nights with the Flask and E Cigs.
Maybe the best part of night one was when my awesome wife was rocking out to Gideon as hard as I was! Its not that often that she joins me in some good old head-banging, air guitar slinging, but she did on this one and that was great!
Other moments that blew me away:
Carl and Bo's incredible backing vocals on Rocket Man, it sounded like a choir of angels!
The moment I had during It Makes No Difference, thinking about the hard lives and sad endings of Rick Danko and Richard Manuel, juxtaposed with all the joy they brought to so many and the high price they paid to do it, the song for me just went up to them like a prayer, hoping for some peace and comfort for their souls, wherever they are.

One problem with that quote. The writer said he only went to the third show, Evil Urges was night 2. Plus, how can he say the one show he went to must have been better than the two he did not?
Night 2 was really strong in a vacuum but the monstrous nature of 1 & 3 dwarf it in comparison. I walked away from 3 thinking that it may've topped 1, but it's pretty much a toss up between those two. First night just had a straight 90 minute jaw-on-the-ground segment from Lay Low until the encore break that pretty much has no parallel to any other live music experience I've had (Roo '06 show included). Third night had the best opening segment (actually thought both 1 & 2 got off to relatively sluggish starts) and I think without a doubt the best encore with the horns/covers/selections.
Just happy to see the band better than ever! Honestly was cool with MMJ just being a great band that I'd always look forward to seeing, but I never thought they would get back to, or exceed where they were between fall '05 and summer '08! I'm still just a little bit shell-shocked by it all, hope this tour has been as enjoyable for the band as it has been for the fans.
I LOVED night 2 - it was soooo heavy - they really laid it down. I was talking to a cool guy from Chicago whilst in line on night 3 - and he had the same takeaway. He said he half expected them to bust out some Slayer or Metallica Master of Puppets they way they were playing night 2.

I told someone in line I was hoping that they cover a random Metallica, Cars, or Tear For Fears Song!

Mission accomplished! I got two finger touches at the Greek and lifted my nephews up so they could, too. We were pretty much the only ones who got it. Felt pretty good, I have to say. JJ really knows how to stoke his fans!!

Does anyone know about how long last night's Dondante was? The jam they added before it was so heavy.
Yeah it was! Like a heavy metal jam, just thrashing! Oh, wait are you talking about the jam near the end of Dondante? It seemed quite different than the jam in the same spot in Dondante at Red Rocks. I guess they just make something up there each night?
And gardenparty, I'm with ya on I Will Sing You Songs, that was a major highlight for me, too, its so majestic and triumphant when its peaking, just beautiful, one of my top MMJ songs for sure and it was killer on this night, coming out of War Begun. So many freakin' highlights as I listen back to the shows or just think about the setlists. Its overwhelming in the moment, almost hard to take it all in, just too much awesomeness!

Did anyone figure out who the horn section was on night 3?
Did anyone post this review of the Wiltern yet (night 3)? This was the kid who was out front when we were in line (all 3 of us); he was so nervous about the interview! He asked me what he should ask them and I told him to find out what Jim says at the end of Steam, but he didn't. Wouldn't have got a straight answer anyway, natch.
He made his way up to us on the rail during the last few songs and was practically blowing a gasket! It was so great to see a newby face melt before my eyes! (He also tried to swipe Patrick's sticks from my new friend Gavin as Patrick was handing them to him, but I shot that down licketdy split - sorry Winnett!)

Whole Lee Crap!!! This is My all time favorite song, even though I never heard it until less than 3 years ago. I was very lucky to see this rendition with my son, a punk rock bassist, who knew nothing about MMJ, and loved the show. From about 4 minutes to 9 it is as good as MMJ can be, and ends with sax.

that was great - and I had forgotten the next song was Isn't it a Pity. I really hope a tape of this show surfaces!!

Dude, that's exactly what I was thinking in the middle of the show! I'm not joking, I thought to my self that they are like wizards or magicians of sound, they make music that has the power to manipulate emotions and fuck with your mind in ways that seem to defy the limits of mere musicians. I'm glad they are using their powers for good and not for evil. I'm half-serious, its hard to describe how good and powerful MMJ are to me that I have to resort to weird, silly sounding shit. Best live rock band on the planet right now! Now that some weeks have passed since these shows, I'm jonesing more and more for another chance to experience it again. Best live rock band on the planet right now! Now that some weeks have passed since these shows, I'm jonesing more and more for another chance to experience it again. Too bad I can't make Port Chester.
SO very well said, you guys.
We are going to miss you at PC, Shug, as well as all the other great peeps who can't make it. That said, make it happen!
Also, a late reply to the .rar-imparied: try winrar (http://www.win-rar.com). It won't do any nasty stuff except beg for money when you open the free version.
Thanks, Crispy! I guess all hope is not lost, but highly unlikely I could make Port Chester. You guys will have to rock it for me. I really look forward to the next time I can hang out with the gang! And thanks for the winrar. advice. Thanks to JohnnyY for the mp3 versions, I'm sitting pretty.
a couple of days ago the PWW from night 1 at the Wiltern came up on the shuffle and it knocked me sideways. on the way home from work i cued up the show to revisit it.
sweet cracker sandwich there were some jaw-dropping versions of songs played at these shows. War Begun was another. it's powerful to listen to these songs individually i can't remember how we all made it to the end of night 1.
epic. e-pic. that PWW closes the show and i swear these guys were changing the weather with the sounds they were making.
i know i was able to d/l this show b/c yac posted a link somewhere. ever and again sir, THANK YOU!
magical nights for sure. The "Sing You Songs" and "Hell" blews me away
Funny, I also checked out this recording again yesterday. War Begun>I Will Sing You Songs, Strangulation, wow! Night 1 was my favorite night of the run. When I look back on it, its amazing how much goodness they packed into one night, let alone three nights of no repeats. I hope next year they return to the Wiltern for another multi-night run. If they do, I have a feeling a lot more out of state fans will be there this time.

I would find a way to make that happen as well.
