Adding insult to injury... :undecided:
Why such a short and meh setlist? Were you guys bad? Did it start late? End early? I suspected a lot of folks were unhappy with the venue change, but... they cut the wrong songs.
The encore that could've been....
Tell me about it--I have no idea why they cut this one short but I was really disappointed when I saw the songs they cut
yeah, play all the songs on the encore setlist and all of a sudden you've got a pretty good show. not fantastic, but damn good. but this? meh sums it up perfectly.
Maybe Carl was tired from biking beside a river. (twitter) Seriously, maybe one of them wasn't all that well. They did cut the most interesting songs from the setlist.
He better fuckin' rest up today then, because he's gotta rock the house three nights in a row! (jest jokin', well, kinda)
anyone seen a poster?

Sometimes it's hard to separate a boy from his dinosaurs.

always hard...just wish the steg was a triceratops
Worst venue for a mmj show ever for sure it was truly horrible that's why they stopped early the people of Boise should be ashamed to even call this place of venue if the poster wasn't so rad and I got number 12 of 125 i would want my money back
more importantly, did Johnny Quaid sit in at all?!

First off, Boise has nothing to be ashamed of. But you do have some sweet grammar skillz, numbnuts.
The Knitting Factory is definitely not the best concert house I've seen, though it's certainly not the worst either. I've seen plenty of great bands there (Gomez, Sonic Youth, Heartless Bastards, The Whigs, Avette Bros.) and always have a great time. It's a small venue with a capacity of 1,000 and great sight lines. You're very close, anywhere in the house. Hell, every time Jim thrashed his head about the entire audience was pelted with his sweat.
The stage size is limited and so much of the theatrics were minimized for this show. The crew was futzing with one of the lights after Shabazz Palaces (seriously?) did their thing. They must have taken over 30 minutes after the set change was complete to get the damned thing to work. I wonder if that delay was the cause for pulling the plug early.
The Knitting Factory folks put on the shows at the Botanical Gardens as well. It's my feeling that when they didn't presale over a thousand, the decision was made to move indoors and play to a packed house. I didn't have any issue with the move. If Boise is to be faulted for anything, it's for not having a massive MMJ fan base. Sucks, I know. But, then again, I get to keep 'em for myself. Hopefully this show will help remedy that. I will say that the 1,000 that did turn out were loud, responsive, and pretty damned happy to see the boys play.
All that said, the setlist was pedestrian and the encore was woefully short. Sixteen songs total with only two for an encore? Seeing what was cut from the encore is a little painful. I'd do it all again in a heart beat though. I'm easy like that.
Penny, Johnny Quaid did make an appearance. He joined in for the
entire encore.
Reading bears choice's post, and this comment from an online article-
"That Boise show last night was one of the best concerts I have ever seen a live band perform..."
I realize I'm being too harsh about a show I didn't even attend. Its always painful to see a short set list with great tunes cut,.
Beer. Pizza. Fishing. Sex. Even when it's not epic, it's still pretty damn good.
Rampant Badassery

Even if the setlist wasn't great, that poster is amazing!
The Boise show was great--just simple and short, though I finally did get to hear War Begun and Phone Went West. And the poster is awesome. I also went to the Portland show and was absolutely blown away by the encore--I will Sing You Songs and Strangulation (my requests) made for a truly special night. It was a great MMJ weekend and so cool to get see Johnny play with them both nights! I'm chomping at the bit to get to the next show!
