Mr. Yaca-billy better be all over this like a bum on a bologna sandwich.

And it's FREE. Hot damn.

anyone noticing the facebook comments?? a lot of folks are bashing the hell out of our boys for backing obama
the BO page now says Carl will be there too!!!
misspelled his name...the whole reason jim changed his...and the mis-pronounciation
nevermind...went back to the page and it was fixed...it was broemer
OK
after getting the email it looks like since it's free it's first come first serve...meaning just because you have a ticket doesn't mean you get to get in if it's full...don't believe anyone in this camp will run into that issue...hope you folks have a great time!!

Don't suppose security will let any taping equipment into this one!

I pray Yac has a better time getting into this event, after the last Obama disaster. I've got a good feeling about it. He will prevail!!
Aahhh, the New Hampshire political circus. Sometimes it has its benefits being in the middle of it. I'll be at the Manchester office tomorrow at noon picking up my ticket.
I hope Yac represents!

Me, too! Thanks for the heads up, Seth, Jen, and Jeff! Phone calls, emails, text messages, oh my! I got royally screwed trying to see Obama in August (2+ hours in line in a downpour and couldn't get in), but I'll try to get a ticket tomorrow and should be able to be in Keene on Monday by 3pm. Keene is about half an hour drive from here. :cheesy:

Well, if they disagree with this philosophy:
"....to get America to be a land that takes care of its own and provides equal opportunity to all - regardless of gender, race, or creed. I believe in President Obama's vision for America - at home and as a better friend to the world - and want to help raise awareness of the importance of a person's right to vote."
... then they can stay home and I'm sure the pit will be a better place as a result.

Oh and I forgot to mention that Ms GO4IT's roots are in Keene which made this announcement particularly awesome for us. Both sides of her grandparents grew up and lived there all their long lives - one grandfather as a foreman in one of the classic textile mills and the other side both teachers (paving the way for jYac, no doubt!).
We visited often when we lived in New England.
What a gift, and well-deserved, for the Yacster. Enjoy and let us know how fantastic it was.
Go Yac!!!!!
O is the one that is real?
Yac, I am coming up late Sunday and staying at a friends in Keene overnight... This will be great!!!

Check PM for my cell number. I hope we both score tickets. I have no idea how to guage interest for this event in NH. I like to think Jim James is a somewhat well-kept secret.
A well kept secret he may be, but free shows are typically not. Tickets won't be the problem, but I think we'll need to get in line early. From the theater's site:
"CAPACITY: 888 seats (42 temporary seats may be added in front orchestra if event technical specs allow for a total of 930 seats)"
Will Barack show up? If people think he'll be there, you might need to take off work early and get there by noon. You might not just be dealing with people that want to see Jim and Carl perform.

People get awfully ugly about politics these days. Attack and villify seems to be the rule for some. It's a shame there isn't real discourse about the issues. There's so much work that isn't getting accomplished because of this attitude.
I'm thinking about making the trek as I'll be able to grab some tickets in Boston today. However I'm a little nervous about getting into the show. Google says it's a little over 2 hours away (not including traffic) and I usually get out around 5...
Very cool!
Love the pic of Jim they are using in conjunction with this event promotion. He looks like a friendly lion.
Picked mine up at the Manchester office at 12:30. There were 5 tix picked up before me. Looks like they had a stack of about 150 passes at that location. It is 'one ticket per person' but not all people need to be present. You just have to provide contact info for all the people your getting tix for. I picked up 3.

I grabbed a ticket today and can hopefully knock out of work early on Monday to ensure I can make it up there at reasonable time.
Enjoy the show everyone.
Congrats John.
Big applause for Jim.
Big applause for Barack.
Big (and jealous) applause for Mr. Yac. I will live vicariously thru you!
Count, hope to see you there. I'm also hoping to get to Keene around 3 or 3:30. Sure hope that's early enough, but I suspect it will be. Nothing wrong with being in Keene with time on your hands.
No discussion at all of the President being there. This is supposedly aimed at the college kids at Keene State as much as anyone. Hell, I may be the oldest guy there. I'm ebarassed that New Hampshire gets so much attention from presidential politics, but have enjoyed the opportunity to meet future presidents (and scores of losers). But now Jim is coming to my doorstep and it cost me a one hour car ride.
Congrats, John!! Enjoy the show!

Please tell me your'e bringing the omnichord! I sense you could have a post show session with Jim! One bonus is you won't see Ted Nugent there... Liking MMJ and bashing Obama seem like contradictions of the soul?
But then again the NH way...Live free or Die!
Looking forward to it. Picked up my tix yesterday. Colonial holds about 1,000. From the box office and other spots I've talked too, the demand for tickets hasn't been that great so far.
Figure a couple hours pre-show should get you in.
See ya there.
There's a small write up in the Concord Monitor, right above the winning lottery numbers, so some folks might see that, but I still think we're safe with a few hours.
If I get there early, anyone care to propose a pre-show meet up? I went there for graduate school, but was a full-time assistant principal at the time, so I didn't get a real sense of the local bar scene.

I am sure a couple hours will be fine. If it holds 800, there is no way there are 800 people more determined than you to get in! (I'm not sure there are any)
Wish I could make it. Have fun!
Don't know the area very well, but it's right on main st and seems to be plenty of places right nearby. Not sure what time we'll be there. Shooting for 5, but might get there a bit earlier. If ya wanna try and coordinate I can shoot you my number. Missed meeting ya at BOA. Would be nice to say hello.
PMs sent. I will do my damnest to be there by 3pm, scope the line up situation, then find a bar nearby. PM cell #s if you want me to text any intel. I may also try for a couple more tickets when I pass through Peterborough on the way to visit my Dad on Sunday, if anyone is in need. I'm uncertain that office will be open when I'm passing through, though.
Kilkenney Pub is right there, just up and across from the Colonial. Well-reviewed and I believe I've been there before. The Colonial is 95 Main St. and Kilkenney Pub is 82 Main St.
Even though I can't stand any politicians, I do support someone's right to express themselves...particularly politically. I may not understand it, but I'm not always right.

pretty stoked to hear how this turns out. i wish he was playing a solo nyc show after the levon helm tribute on weds.
Sounds like Eric Meyers arrived today. Don't know if Jim and Carl are in town yet. I hope to "run into" them in the afternoon. Psyched.
excited to hear reports back...please include some autumnal colors if possible. I think Jim's hair would look even more fantastic with that as a back ground. (plus i'm missing autumn  )

I'm glad you have a game plan  Don't forget to live tweet this mug for us.
I have an extra ticket for tonight if anyone can get to Keene, NH by 7pm. As an active volunteer for the Obama campaign, I can tell you demand has been low, so some tix may be available at the venue.
If I don't tweet during the performance, I'll report in soon after. I don't want to spend too much time on my phone during the performances.

I know you'll enjoy it John, no matter how long it is. After all the traveling you've done to see shows, it's fitting that they've come to you this time. Here's hoping you get right up front, and can shine your love light on them, ala Philly.
So i just called the yacster just to touch bases with him before I went to work for the night and he answered the phone and said "hey talk to someone real quick" next voice on the line was quite familiar and said yeah, we aren't gonna play the dark tonight...it was carl...haha...talked to him for a good 3 or 4 minutes...apparently he saw john and went up to him then i called...pretty damn cool
Right on, JY! It's only fitting that you, of all people, get to enjoy an intimate show of less that 1,000 people. Enjoy!
Glad it's you. Can't wait to hear about it...

How was the turnout? Was it a packed house?
Looks like they packed a lot in that set-list for an hour long show!
And how was Craig Finn?
I also want to say, I think Ohio needs a show like this. I mean, we are a key battleground state that could turn the tide of the election!
Terrific setlist. Just right for the occasion. Must have been really special.
I think The Right Place is one of the best songs ever written. Awesome
Really great set list - a little bit of everything. Would have liked to see Changing World... Look forward to hearing about it.
Nice curveball by throwing in "The Right Place"! I'd LOVE if some MoF songs started making their way back into sets. A little "Losin Yo Head" in Port Chester anyone???

gorgeous
Another great night in New Hampshire. The Colonial is a beautiful theater with fantastic sound. The performance was intimate and so full, considering it was just the two of them. Nice choice of material, particularly the Monsters of Folk tune they got in there and their stripped down acoustic take on Day Is Coming.
The Colonial has a capacity of just under 1000, and a free show too, so I was expecting a fuller house, but the balcony was empty except for a handful of people and there was plenty of room downstairs too. It was easy to get close seats if you wanted them.
The politics of the evening was minimal. State Senator Molly Kelly was on hand and gave a rousing talk; student organizers spoke a bit about the importance of young people voting, esp in swing-state NH; and James' brief comments about ending division and moving forward were general but impassioned.
Craig Finn. Ughh. I thought it was a terrible performance of dark, indulgent, self-pitying, jesus-filled ideas put to notes. I'd hardly call them songs. He created a heavy, leaden mood to open the night...and I like the Hold Steady.

The Right Place link is the same as the first one, unfortunately - as that's the song I'd most like to see! I searched youtube but couldn't find it... if it's out there, please point the way!! (And thanks for the other links, they were great)
Here it is.

I've wanted to post some thoughts on Monday night since right after I got home, but that's when the flu symptoms started... almost better.
So, I got there early, discovered a great little dive bar with cheap beer, met a nice guy from DC who flew in for the show on his 40th birthday, and ended up having nice conversations with Carl and some of the crew.
In line, met nuggets, a fellow forumite and the only other one from NH (as far as I know). In the Colonial Theatre, I met CountSA, who actually had a spare seat in the 2nd row, a much appreciated upgrade.
Craig Finn was pretty dour and bleak, but there was some humor, too. I thought it was fine, though flawed. I won't be running out to buy his music anytime soon, but it wasn't bad.
When Jim and Carl came on stage, I had to pinch myself, to realize I was having this moment so close to home. They were pretty spot on all night, and there were a lot of surprises in that set list. Some Jacket tunes, Carl's Carried Away, Monsters of Folk's The Right Place, and New Multitudes's Changing World. The closer, The Day Is Coming, was very cool as it was Jim on Omnichord. The album version has subtle 'chord in the intro, but this was a very cool version. I must now learn to play it myself.
Carl's harmonics during Bermuda Highway and bow work during Hopefully really brought back to mind the At Dawn versions of those two tunes. I can't get over Carl's talent, yet he is such a down-to-Earth, nice guy off stage. He came up to me on line to say "hi" and stuck around for probably 15 minutes.
Carl shared a great story with me about when he was in LA, before joining MMJ, listening to KCRW, and this remarkable song came on. He wasn't sure who it was. Weeks later, Carl begins listening to MMJ's back catalog to prepare for his audition and hears the song... I Will Sing You Songs. He knows, at that moment, that he MUST join this band.
Yeah.
Sweet story that you actually got to hear directly from Carl himself. Awesome. Happy for you Jon.
A real special night. And the timing of Seth's call was perfect. Carl and I had just talked about Spontaneous Curation and Seth's request for The Dark to open Forecastle, so when I saw it was Seth calling, I handed my phone to Carl. Seth's recollection of the call is best, as he got both halves of the conversation.

John, your past couple of posts only add to the greatness that is MMJ, and why they are so
loved by all of us here. They are not only a great band who give it their all every night, but great guys who really do care about their fans.
So happy you got to chat with Carl, and see this amazing event, and so close to home taboot!

John, Thanks for sharing the experiences and videos with us - sounded like a VERY special show and the videos were wonderful to watch. All of this continues to reinforce my admiration for this band. A wonderful setlist, Jim is transcendent, as always, and Carl is so amazing, talented and humble. It is hard to imagine two people you'd rather see put on a show.

Hey, I'm from NH too! Don't post all that often, but check in here every now and again when MMJ come through the northeast. Seeing your pix here, I remember seeing you at the Colonial. We'll have to say HI at NYE!

Jahmazed and I are also from NH but I moved to Maine to escape the political circus. We have been forum members for some years now, definately NOT roll callers though...Myers better keep his eye on Yac cause I sense a new tour manager! Thanks for the show reports for those who had to work.
Sorry, Matt and Aaron. I keep associating you with Maine. So the Granite State gets a bit more representation that I give it credit.
NH roll call!

Anyone else? We can have our own, tax-free Jacketfest.

I pray Yac has a better time getting into this event, after the last Obama disaster. I've got a good feeling about it. He will prevail!!
You were right!

Don't know if this counts, or if it was ever printed, but its the best promo of the event that I've found.
