Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, what??????? I am hyperventilating!
Special Guest? At a event called "on the Beach" I hope it is Neil Young with a title like that but since it is in NJ I am thinking Bruce. Looking to change my flight after Boston and maybe cruise down there.

i wish our condo wasn't demolished, or we could have had a PRE party get down there!!
I so thrilled they are doing this! Wish I could go, but yay for all of you who can! :cheesy:
Very cool that they are doing this. Hopefully the cool musical stylings of MMJ & PHJB will bring some relief to you east coasters still struggling. 5 shows in 6 days for some of you might cause your heads to explode with sensory overload. Lucky Assholes
Daaaaaamn! Going to be hard to pass this up! Was planning on leaving Boston on January 2nd, but maybe I'll take a little detour through NJ on the way back!
Any word on Roll Call tickets?
Soooo cool the boys and friends are doing this.
I know Penny will be hoping for a duet with Miss Nicole Atkins.

Holy balls this is awesome! This event being fairly close to us in Jersey means that the wife & I may be able to pull this off. It would be a sweet consolation prize since we can't make any of the New Years run. Horrrraaayyyyyy!!
Matt Pinfield MC'ing is pretty cool too. That dude is a music encyclopedia
$76 for top tix. Wow too. Not trying to be a downer, any time another show is announced that's good news. I'm just wondering if they realize how hard they're pushing the hardcore fanbase! Not the best timing from a PC-NYE perspective.
Zero chance I can make this, but it sounds like a great time. I'm already starting my wishlist for a live stream.

she's seriously a sweetheart and a really beautiful girl with dainty hands and an awesome voice--loved her at the Levon benefit...Penny is such an asshole sometimes.

Me too!
It is a fundraiser, so I doubt that the band had a huge say in the pricing of tickets. Just sayin....
Oh, and I love Matt Pinfield too! He was the DJ I listened to as a teen when he was at 106.3 WHTG. Fantastic!
I want that POSTER!
First time I saw the band/met them was at Bamboozle in 2004 in the parking lot behind the Stone Pony. A perfect night and I remember it more than most shows given my level of intoxication. Late afternoon, sea mist blowing in, the band still had long fucking hair and proclaimed they weren't used to mosh pits opening but lately it seemed to be the case.
Sonic Youth closed out the night. $20. THOSE were the days.
Anyway, do I gotta slug this out with commoners on TM or do we get roll call access tomorrow?
No word on Roll Call specials, though I kinda doubt it for a charity gig like this. I'm outta da loop these days so I got nothin' for ya. Can't manage this show, but kudos to all involved to help folks in need down there. A live feed for $5 would raise some serious cash, me thinks!

I would definitely pay to see this. I wish i could go but i probably can't get a ride and even at my young age I don't think i'm in shape enough to handle MMJ 4 times in two weeks. lol

You know it Christine....still reeling, and had a music boner since I got those texts! fingers crossed we can score tix, cause I'm looking forward to rocking your first show in Asbury with ya.
Same here Trish. I would've loved to host something on LBI.
When I got all of those texts today, I couldn't believe it, but after letting it sink in, I wondered why I was surprised. These guys are some of the coolest people out there, and to do this here, so close to home has just blown me away. This seriously choked me up a bit today, and just re-affirmed what I've felt all along about this great band. I didn't think I could love them any more than I do already, but they've now gone into mega legend status in my book!
The PC, and NYE shows we're shaping up to be a much needed break for me from all that has been going on since Sandy hit. Now with this incredible gesture by the band to cap it off, I'm sure that high will be more than enough to carry me through a rebuilding winter.
Hoping, and praying to get a ticket as I wouldn't miss this for anything. Here's hoping for a Roll Call presale, or some big time luck shining down on us all dealing with Ticketmaster.
i'm definitely in (i think). i sometimes consider asbury / ocean grove a second home as some of my favorite friends live there and i am constantly heading down there .. so awesome MMJ is doing this.
i'd say no way jose on a roll call. this is an event they were asked to / invited to play, it's not something MMJ/Ground Control has any control over. same goes for ticket prices. it's to raise money, not appeal to the hardcore fan base who are weary from 5 nights of crazy.

If there is a live stream for purchase, count me in as well. It will be as close as I can come to being there.
Seating on the website says 1600. I wonder how short the set will be? My bet is 45-1 hr.
This is awesome news. I was supposed to fly back to ATX Jan 1, now I have to figure out how to get off work and stay home two more days. lol

i really want to go to this.
whats the best way to get there from nyc? drive?
you could drive or take nj transit, switch in long branch, head toward bay head, and get off in asbury.
True dat! Its for charity, period.

Solid train advice here. If you don't want to drive, a NJ Transit train is definitely the way to go.
http://www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=TrainTo (http://www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=TrainTo)
hmmmmm - anybody else making the journey from NYC?
i've taken the NJ transit down to Asbury more than a dozen times, it's easy. when you transfer, it's also easy b/c the train to asbury is always right across the platform waiting for you. from there it's about 15 more minutes maybe. i haven't decided if i'm in or out b/c to be honest, my wallet is tired and i'm quite sure the rest of me will be tired after MMJ > Phish. if i go, i'll be taking NJ transit down that day (early afternoon probably) and will crash with friends in OG for the night .. and then take an early train back to the city for work.
for those looking to get back that night, the last train from asbury to NYC is at 11:00PM.
I have to go to this show - I mean, what better way to spend my birthday!
Really want to do this show, for a lot of the same reasons as you guys have mentioned. Like Christine, it would also be my first Asbury Park show. What better way that to have it be a MMJ show with you guys!
Good luck everyone! I hope we all have good news to share shortly after noon tomorrow
LIZ !!!!! I miss you dude
I'll be getting my hands dirty when these tickets go on sale today. I'm still on the fence. How would I get back to Brooklyn that night? Maybe just gonna wait and get a ticket when the time is closer... :undecided: good luck you all!
Good luck today for everyone trying to get tickets...I'm flying out of Boston New Years afternoon so I'm not even considering this...Ericm, I'm happiest most of all for you...and I still hope I have a spot in your car like we discussed a couple months ago...I'm starting to be able to smell the northeast...and I like it

BOOM! Orchestra seats!!!
Tickets were easy. Hope everyone did OK. Sassbox and I will be rocking Row F, seats 101-102.
Orch H for me and Bobster! Also scored an Orchestra O for bluesky, and have 3 extras there!
Orch Row P
StaggerLee, Mrs. Stagger, myself & Mrs. peafunk are in!
Row F. Somehow I screwed up and ordered the insurance option for the tickets. I emailed the company right away to cancel but I wonder how that will go. Oh well. Free pizza at Johnny Macs can make up for it.

I've been to the venue before and if I remember they set up 2 rows of folding chairs in front of the rows of seats, so that must be rows A and B.

Went to a TM outlet... pulled 2 pit tickets.. which confused me bc the seating chart i had said the seats started at row C... but apparently there is a very small pit in front of those seats... pretty cool
I'm in. I had no Internet but was able to get through on the phone. A bit late and wasn't happy with a single in the back of the orchestra that was available then, so I grabbed a Row A in the loge. That'll do for now, but I'll be on the lookout for a nice orchestra so I can upgrade, and join all you fine folks.
Can't wait!
  just logged on to TM to see what was available and couldn't believe a Pit, Row A seat 1 popped up!!! Talk about an upgrade!! I can't believe it. MMJ doing a Sandy benefit and not only am I lucky enough to be there, but somehow got blessed to be in the front friggin row too.

Looks like other seats in the pit are up for grabs as well. Go to TM now and use their seat selector thing if you don't have tickets or are looking to upgrade.
Eric, Sassbox and I are now right behind ye in Row B. (seats 3 and 4).

Had the same thought & just grabbed Pit Row B seat 1, so I am directly behind Eric! Also, seat 2 (between me and Mr. Whippy & Sassbox) is still open. As well as Pit Row B seats 14, 15 & 16 (which is on the other end of the Pit section). If anyone else is interested!
EDIT - those other Pit seats seem to have been sold in the last 10 seconds...

ynwa, hadn't noticed your sig before. Love it! I just revisited Live Rust recently in preparation for the current Neil & Crazy Horse tour.
Also, my original seats are now up for grabs if anyone wants them:

thanks to Trish for seats in row H! Sorry i was all over the place in the last 24 hours....fingers crossed Alady will be joining me!!!
ps....anyone driving to or from NYC?
One of the extras I had in Center Orchestra Row F (on Jim-side aisle) is gone, so I have one left, if anyone needs a tasty single.
And I also have a single ticket available: Center Orch, Row E, in what I'll call "Tommy Territory." Face + fees. PM me if interested. First come, first served.
I'm searching for a pair together in the Center Orchestra if anyone can help out. I would be very appreciative.
Both the extras I had in Row F are now gone.
So, are people staying overnight in town, or trying to head home that night. I think Sassbox and I are going to stay at the Berkeley Hotel, which is just a block or so from the venue. It's also a pretty neat hotel with lots of character.
This is so awesome, Eric I've managed to get front row tickets with ticketmaster, surprisingly before too...you never expect it but its great when it does happen...I used the seat selector for an iron and wine show at the Alabama theatre and bought them quite late but since I was only getting one ticket I managed to grab a seat on the third row. I love the idea of being able to actually select your own seat and it still be a good one

Very true Seth. I've scored great seats to shows through TM on a "drop" or re-release, but those were usually the day of, or a day or two before a show. I don't think I've ever got such sweet seats five hours after the onsale though. I'm sure they weren't available at noon, or they would've definitely been scooped up.
I just went in and hit best available since I couldn't load the seat locator on my IPad, and BANG, there they were. I had to do a double take to make sure I was seeing it right, but sure enough...Pit Row A!
I have an extra for this show in row G if anyone is interested - just shoot me a message, thanks!

need 2 together for this..
Soooooo.....what are we doing for a pre-show meetup? This needs to happen as I haven't had the pleasure of throwin down with many of you in over a year. I don't know Asbury Park very well. I was only there for a festival way back in 2004 I believe. We can try & summon The Boss by going to The Stone Pony I guess. Suggestions?
The Pony sounds good to me.
I hear AP is pretty much all up and running, but I'll ask around to make sure. I'll see what options we have, and report back, but I'm liking the suggestion. I know we'll have a few first time Asbury Parker's, so the Pony is a must do for at least a drink.
A little confused on the start time for this show. Ticket has 6pm on it but I've seen it advertised elsewhere as a 7pm start. Anyone know for sure? Have to work out the sitter details. Thanks ahead of time!
Assuming we will get Hungry Heart tomorrow. What other songs have they played with Preservation the most since we can expect a few songs together? Dancefloors I hope.
Have two(2) extra tickets in the 12th Row.
They are "hard" tickets in hand in the 12th row, together on center aisle in:
Orchestra Row L seats 2 and 4.
Will eat part of tm service charges.
You can have them for $65.00 each/$130 for both or best offer.
You can contact me directly at:

For anyone interested at meeting at the Pony, what time are you guys going to show up? Just trying to plan stuff out.
Anyone driving from NYC with any extra room in the car? I would love a ride can chip in for tolls, gas, food.

Hey Peafunk! I think some folks will be getting in around 4 or so.....I know that Brooke mentioned also heading over to Porta (a pizza place right there), and they open at 4:30.
I am leaving work at 4 and will get there by about 4:45. So excited!!!!
If anyone, knows anyone who needs tickets...I'm still holding two row O tickets!
I still have an extra in row G if anyone wants it. I paid $75 but will sell it for $50.
I'm going to try to get to the Stone Pony around 5:45 for a couple of preshow drinks. I've never been there before and always wanted to see it. Hope to see some of you there!

I wouldn't even guess, but I'd count on a late night. It's not as big as the Light Of Day Benefit lineup/show that always run well into the AM, but I'd be surprised if we got out of there before midnight.

Brian adds to the possibility of Bruce showing up, IMO. Fingers crossed.......
oooooo...what's the connection??
Red Bank guy who Bruce has joined onstage a few times.
Here's a cool little clip of Brian talking about Bruce, and a live clip too. Watch them both, and your excitement level for tonight will rise just like mine did when I heard he was added.

Super stoked .. taking the 2:15 out of NYC and should show up around 4:30 at Porta Pizza (right behind/next to The Stone Pony) if I'm hungry and if not, maybe we'll just go to The Pony.

do we have any idea as to the times of when each act comes on ?
Brian Fallon of Gaslight Anthem comes on at 6:20. That's all I got....
The Facebook page says the Tangiers Blues Band goes on at 6:20, no word about the rest of the set times...
I know this is late notice but I have a pair of tickets for tonight and something came up at work and I don't think I'm going to make it down tonight from nyc. If anyone is interested in them, drop me a line at chimpat@yahoo.com, you'd just need to come downtown to my office to pick them up.
I don't even care if you pay for them, if you want to throw me something, great but it's a good cause and just want someone to use them.
Thanks.
Anyone have any extra room either going down or coming back for me and a buddy?
sort of desperate here....
please let me know
thanks!

Damn, anyone just see that tweet from Eric Mayers?
QuoteThanks to the @mymorningjacket band, crew & mgmt for a great seven years, was the time of my life. See you in Philly.
Was this his last show as road manager?! Wish I coulda been there!
That's a shame, his tweets are great. It was hysterical realizing who he was PC night 1, a bunch of people by me that he was Zach Galifianakis...
Well, Bruce didn't show up but the Dancefloors>OBH closing 1-2 punch almost made up for it...

Man awesome show. Jims voice sounded remarkably fresh. Havent seen them since August the lights were fantastic. First time seeing preservation they rocked as well. The chuck berry ensemble was flipping ridiculous. The band blasted thru with minimal breaks between songs due to the short tme slot. Didnt get lay low but zero complaints.
Pretty standard setlist all in all, but it was very well played. The whole event was very cool and it was much more than just the MMJ set. I really enjoyed all the acts that played, particularly Steve Earle. The Preservation Hall set was great, too, and it featured Jim on two songs (St. James Infirmary and Louisiana Fairytale) and Steve Earle on one (This City).

Yup, my sentiments exactly.
Good stuff!
TDB, any "Keep Calm and Rebuild Breezy" Hat sightings on JJ?

Nope :embarrassed: but I'm sure he will treasure it.
On a similar note, our very own ericm was able to hand some goodies off to Carl...but I'll let him share that story
Fun night, and a great way to start the year! Can't wait for the next announcement!

Totally agree Trish! I had a blast, and while it was the end to a great run of MMJ shows, it was an awesome, inspiring way to start the year.
I thought all the performers were great last night, and I was so impressed with how genuine they all were, and thankful for their support to the relief effort.
I was able to hand off some tee shirts to Carl, and even got to have a little chat with him about them back at the hotel after the show. Basically went up to thank him for doing the show, and he saw the shirt I was wearing, thanked me for theirs, and wanted to know the scoop.
The shirts were made by a local LBI surf company called Jetty, and all the proceeds go to the support of the relief effort. Jetty has donated thousands of dollars, food, time, and anything they could do to help from day 1. They designed the shirt, and they were a super hot item over the holidays, but I was lucky to get my hands on five for the guys yesterday before heading up to Asbury.
Here's a link to the shirt, and if anyone wants to purchase, the relief effort is still ongoing.

Yes, as MMJ goes you didn't miss much, but it was a very cool event overall and nice to end the run with a more intimate show given the hugeness of Boston.
That was awesome to see!! I was standing next to Eric during last nights show. Pretty cool when Carl came over and grabbed the bag of shirts. Great show and great way to end the year with 3 nights in pc and start the year supporting our home towns with our favorite band!! Here's to an even better 2013... Even though it will be tough to compete with last year!
great to see folks one more time after only hitting one PC show. i thought last night was pretty great considering it was a benefit show

Were you standing next to me? I'm the one who pushed the girl's hand out of my face, then they started some crap.
The whole 5-pack was just an amazing week of great friends, laughter, music, and even a couple of tears in Asbury.
The Benefit was just the perfect cap to all the shows, and as a Jacket fan living on the Jersey Shore, I can't even put into words how happy, and proud I am to be a fan of this great band.
I was fortunate enough to thank a few of the guys personally back at the hotel after the show. They were all really genuine, and even asked about my own personal experiences with the storm. Really blew me away, but then again, not surprised. I had to share this little diddy with all of you here. When I thanked Jim for doing the show, and shared a couple of thoughts, he shook my hand, and said " hey man, we love it here. Glad to help, we're all in this together, you know."
And with that, came the end of my 5-pack and I headed home. No way this past week could've been better. Thanks to everyone I got to share some time with, and can't wait to get together again.
Had an awesome time. Great show! It was really cool to sepnd time with those of you that were hanging at Porta and the Wonder Bar. Hope to chill with everyone again soon. Special shout out to Eric M. Great seeing you again bro.

We don't know one another but  from a fellow Jersey Shore resident (Red Bank, close enough). AP was a fantastic time and wonderful way to start 2013! Thanks guys!
Same here Woody. hope you fared ok in Red Bank.
Wish we could've met, and hung out for a few, but we'll have to do it next time around.
Having grown up at the shore (Brick) and moved away and seeing all that so many friends & family have gone through and continue to go through, this whole night was absolutely wonderful. To see it capped off with PHJB joining the boys on stage made it that much better. A heartfelt thank you to all who put the night together.
Ericm, hearing your story of JJ's comments isn't surprising, but it does reinforce the feeling of community & connectedness that filled the room that night. Love it!
Peace...
