Title: Interesting Personal Setlist Stats
Post by: Crispy on Jan 03, 2013, 04:50 PM
So Kyle and others inspired me to get back to updating my spreadsheet containing all the songs I have seen at shows, and I found this occurrence: the closer at the end of the Red Rocks show on Aug 21, 2008 was One Big Holiday. At my next show, on April 21, 2010 (O, sorrowful 2009) in Nashville, the opener was...One Big Holiday. It didn't even occur to me at the time!

And now I see this damned setlist.fm website that makes my spreadsheet obsolete, so that's awesome.

setlist.fm sucks IMO- definitely stick w/ your spreadsheet for maximum flexibility.

Glad my setlist chatter was the source of inspiration.  For most I think it was a source of amusement.

Thank you, setlist spreadsheet holders, for making me realize that there are thresholds of geekdom to which I have not yet succumbed.

Every Geek has its porn should have been what Jim sang at the end of Rocket Man. However, I love it when you guys geek out about this stuff! As I told mahg33ta, I love the information they mine from their sheets; I just want them to tell me what they find so I don't have to look at it.

Interesting stat for me: According to setlist.fm, they've only plated Makes No Difference 15 times, and I've been to (only) seven shows but I've seen it FOUR times. It's an amazing song and I still enjoy seeing it but the last two times they've started it I just go, "oh, damn, there's so many other covers I want to see!"

I succumbed after my 11-show run in 2008. And then I realized the error of my nerddom ways and gave up

Boo. Re-join the dark side!

IPSS of the day: Of the 31 shows that I have seen, which have taken me to 16 cities in 11 states and 1 Canadian province, I have driven to 61.3% of them.

Damn man. That isn't complete until we know how  the percentage of trains, plains, bikes etc breaks down.

I'd be curious to know the furthest distance traveled vs the shortest time stayed in a city for a show. I think I know, but if I'm wrong, holy shit. There should be a special Roll Call merit badge for just this kind of thing!

I think Ralph has traveled the farthest, flying from Melbourne to NYC for the T5 shows.  After that, probably the Mrs. and me flying to Sydney.

Crispy's MSG jaunt last year has to be up there around shortest trip.

How about going at all lengths to see a show:

In 2010, the Mrs. and I drove 4.5 hours to Canandaigua, NY to see the band.  We drove back to Ottawa right afterwards, getting home at 3:30 AM.  We slept for about 2 hours, got on a plane to Philly, and saw the band the next day there (it's also where we met a lot of the forum folks for the first time).  We did all this because we were flying to Istanbul.

Were you thinking of the time I drove to Montreal (about 1,600 miles) to see MMJ open for Wilco and stayed there about 12 hours?

ralph and Mr. and Mrs. NN totally win the merit badges for intercontinental travel! I was thinking about going to those Oz shows but wasn't able to swing it at the time. But man, next time they play in Belgium...

The Cake of Ridiculousness! That was a multi-show trip though, since I did see MMJ in Burlington a couple nights before.

We're going, Johnny! Hell, after Sara's trip here, we might have a whole posse of forum assholes invading Europe the next time they go over there!

Thread has inspired me (maybe). Asbury Park was my 38th show since September '07. Lawd. Have. Mercy.

3 flights totaling 22 hours with 9 hours of stopovers to get from home to NYC for T5. Totally worth it and not at all crazy! Then it was 7 shows in 8 nights (4 x T5, Carl solo & 2 x Bridge Benefits) before getting on a plane and going home. Was the total rockpig trip of a lifetime.

Would do it again in a heartbeat if the stars align and the timing is right...

Not really any interesting stats to share except that I've seen MMJ live in concert 5 times and all of them were in the front row!

That's a pretty good stat!

IPSS of the day: I did not see MMJ play a cover song until April 21, 2010 in Nashville (Movin' On Up), after having seen 10 shows, and 182 other songs, over the course of 5 years, 7 months, 4 days since my first show.

(Technical difficulty: Carried Away and Losin' Yo Head were also played that night, but I'm not considering them covers so much)
