Title: Jim Nashville 2/1/13
Post by: logan5ive on Jan 24, 2013, 08:28 AM
Hey guys,

I'm playing my very first solo show in Nashville next Friday, February 1st! It will be an intimate "sneak peak" of the new songs at a special place with a limited capacity, so we wanted to extend an invitaton to Roll Call members exclusively.

If you'd like to come, please sign up for a chance to purchase a ticket to attend the show. The show will only be $10 at the door. We can only accommodate 50 people plus their guest, which we will be selecting by random drawing.

Hope to see you there!

Jim

agreed since its a roll call email but you'd have to be in roll call to reap the benefits, right?

Why? You have to be a roll call member, and all roll call members got this email. It is not like him posting this is lessening your odds for tickets. Unless you are simply kidding because it sounds too good, and you are unable to go for whatever reason.

Well I know of a few certain people who let their roll call expire, and I am sure they will be renewing asap for this chance.

Any speculation where this will be held in Nashville?

There is no way I can deal with this anxiety for 4 days.

Probably be 800 people signed up by then.

When he posted it, I hadn't gotten the email and had already signed up cause a little bird. It's all about anxiety

I would like to think local submissions would trump ones from the east or west coast. How much would it suck to be a roll call member in Nashville and be beat out by people from all over the country? I would assume location is not a factor though.

Agree. Kind of annoying that they did it this way, but I'll take what I can get, even if it's a 1/20 chance lol.

I'm happy for Nashville, just as I am happy for NY and Philly. I got a treat last fall here in NH, so I can no longer say "woe is me."  I wish you all luck and look forward to hearing all about it.

I don't think anyone is complaining, we're just talking about it.

If I were to complain, I'd say that Nashville hasn't gotten a "treat" (or even a show) in 1 1/2 years and the first one is open to 50 people from all around the Southeast US.

As I said, I'm happy with even a chance at this point.

All good.

I'll be there with yakeroo, win or lose.

Let us speculate on locations. I'm thinking The Basement, although I probably wouldn't call it a "special place."

Maybe it's Carl's house? That would be special or creepy if you just showed up and were stalking. It could be somewhere like a rehearsal space.

Jack White played his first solo show to select fans at Third Man records last year. I believe The Black Keys played a select show to about 40 people at Springwater Supper Club.

Special guest is Carl and they play a few songs together before announcing there's a few more folks they'd like to bring out. Out comes Patrick, Tom and Bo and the band plays an open setlist taking out requests from the audience spanning MMJ's entire catalog

190 entries now, and it's rising slowly now. I'm thinking the max will be 400 entries but will probably end between 300-350.

1 in 6 to 1 in 8 chance. Not too bad.

I've tried to get so many of my friends to listen to MMJ.  Some say they like it, but they barely listen to the band.  The only albums they have even touched are EU and maybe Circuital.  I seem to always go out of my way to give them music etc. and they decide that mumford/black keys are more worth their time.

You really don't want to waste the experience of something this special on people like that. I've got tons of those people in my life too, and there's no way I would bring any of them with me if I am so lucky as to get chosen. That's why this forum is so special to me. I would LOVE to attend this show, but that's all dependant on whether Yakeroo wins or not. Since we go to the same shows anyway, he bought a Roll Call membership while I got a membership to Jack White's Vault. They helped us achieve front row at Forecastle + Alpharetta and for Jack White in Chattanooga. Let's hope not many more entries are tossed in over the weekend. Good luck to everyone!

36 hours folks! I am guessing there will be about 250 entries. Ugh that leaves an 80% chance of rain.

Yeah a lot of my old friends will listen to OBH or I'm Amazed and that is it. I think if they ever caught a live show, they would be hooked.

So Grimeys is eliminated? Well Third Man it is! Maybe its the back alley of the Ryman haha. I'd like to know where its at so Yakeroo and I can get the building blueprints and sneak in through the ventilation ducts.

So how's the contest work? 50 lucky individuals are selected on Monday and you have all 50 buy tickets at the door? What if someone selected can't make it??

I hold my breath in anticipation of each email that shows up in my inbox...though patience is a virtue, the waiting is nerve-racking. I suppose the only thing to calm this down is a little Butch Cassidy..."Butch Cassidy I could have been your friend, and seen Jim James play his solo show" (isn't that how the words go?). Don't forget us folks in Nashville!

I'm DEFINITELY not making plans, because 50 out of 210 is still 50 out of 210. Infact, there is more chance of us loosing than winning. I'm a pessimist, I know, but also pretty realistic. In fact, Im still planning on working on Friday night. Would be nice to go, but odds are odds

16 entries from this thread. I know of at least 5 more that have no posted.

211 entries
50 people get to go
161 people don't win.
i know 21

someone who knows who to do math find out how likely it would be that I know 0 winners.  I'm thinking pretty unlikely.
Title: Re: Jim Nashville 2/1/13

Rereading the original email it says that they can accomodate 50 plus their guest.  It doesn't say 50 winners.  This is their first show, so perhaps there will be some families, friends of the band, etc. going.  It could cut the number of winners down a bunch.  I would think you would know by now, after all the show is this Friday.
Title: Re: Jim Nashville 2/1/13

the show is on friday, but the contest didnt end until monday, sooooooo if time was an issue it wouldnt have gone down like that.

you are right though, if the venue is that small, then guest list could definitely eat at our chances.

i do have the contest page still up on my phone browser, and it says that they will be selecting 50 people through a contest.

hate to say it, but with only 50 spots, it's highly likely that most will be given to friends, family, music industry peeps, employees of the venue, etc.  Wouldn't be surprised at all if very, very few of the 'golden tickets' are actually given out to Joe-fan-public.
Title: Re: Jim Nashville 2/1/13
Post by: mahg33ta on Jan 29, 2013, 01:31 PM
I have no stake in this, having not entered and no way to get to Nashville.

That said, I feel for the anxiety of everyone and not knowing if you have plans or not on a Friday night on Tuesday afternoon can be stressful for work, family, etc...

My $.02 is that it's pretty disappointing to get a nice response from Wade "we hear you, appreciate the feedback, etc..." on the last show snafu - less than two weeks ago!!  -when the main issue was better communication.

thats true, but "We can only accomodate 50 people plus their guests, which we will be selecting by random drawing."

It explicitly says that there will by 50 people chosen to receive a pair of tickets. Not that no ones ever been misled by the entertainment industry, but I feel like it would otherwise say "The capacity for this show is 100 people, and rather than sell tickets we will be giving them away via a lottery." That would be very open ended.

PLUS, the conditions say that it costs 10$ per person at the door. If theyre only allowing 20 fans in, why would they even bother to charge?

I have a good friend that used to work for Heavenly Ski resort in Lake Tahoe.  One of the things he administered was contests and giveaways for ski passes.  I can't tell you how many times I skied free with passes I 'won'.  Somehow, I managed to win a ton of drawings for Heavenly passes, ones that I don't even recall entering (strange huh?).  I would go to the box office and pick up a pass that said 'winner-San Jose Home and Garden expo drawing'.  Just saying...

if this is truly the way they're swinging it, it just seems wrong. maybe if they advertised it to the world in a really nonchalant way that'd be one thing. But to make it available *only* to those of us who pay to be part of the fan club would be a low blow. I won't believe it.

Likewise, the windows have no shuttles. Roll on, roll on, oh little train...whatever will be, will be between the contest winners, the show and jim james.

Finding out the results certainly feels like the slowest train that I have ever seen.

If he was up for it, I would gladly host Jim James to play a show in my living room in Nashville. It has room for about 15 - 20 and the walls are decorated with plenty of MMJ posters...ah, the anxiety of finding out if I'll be able to attend the show on Friday is certainly driving me crazy, if this post isn't enough evidence of that already.

I'm going to go ahead and predict the remainder of this thread:

Wade chimes and in "sorry guys, the contest winners have been notified. That's followed up with a lot of "damn it!" "I never win anything!" "Fuck this, something fishy is going on" "Oh well" "That's why I never planned on going" and "I hope whoever won has fun and reports back." Then tomorrow there will be a couple "FUCK YOU G(C)!" which will turn into an all out attack about that show in 2008 in which the Roll Call early entry line didn't work even though RC didn't exist yet. Next, Wade will chime in again and defend GC and himself, I'll feel embarrassed for some people since we all know Wade himself doesn't run this contest and certainly didn't screw anyone over himself. Finally, this thread will disappear and will only be brought up again in the future with comments like "Say what you will about [new fan club operator here] but they aren't that bad. At least they weren't the ones that caused that Jim James solo show fiasco" and otherwise this will all be a distant memory/mystery.

Now that we got all of that out of the way...

That being said, I'm certain there's a bunch of other forum members who want all those extra spots as well, so I suppose I'll just leave it at, "whoever gets to go, have an awesome time, it'll be the experience of a lifetime!"

If anyone has an extra, please let me know!  I'd be driving from Birmingham so let know!

My grand plan to buy a last minute roll call package for the wifey didn't work.

Congrats to those who won!

Still wished they could expand the venue to allow all 212 of us who entered to gain access.

Sorry bitter pills are tough to swallow!

I won, I won!  I can not believe it!  I'm 52 years old, love the band, love each man in the band, and I thank God and I hope good karma for this wonderful opportunity.  I checked my email today and there it was!  I thought everyone would have received an email yesterday.  I'm so happy I have tears streaming down my face.

I have a good MMJ friend that said he would go with me, otherwise my wonderful forecastle girl will go with me!

I'm so happy...thank you jim

I'm happy for all the people that got in but it kind of sucks how alot of "Veterans" (for lack of a better word...) got shut out. Like e_wind said I'd think it'd be great to let some of the Nashville locals who contribute alot to this forum go as your guest if you won. Anyway, who ever goes, have fun and let us know how it goes.

Two straight days obsessively checking my email, and for naught. But it is ok. That is what "random" means. I share my disappointment with 161 others. As for the 50 of you lucky, lucky Augustus Gloops, Veruca Salts, Violet Beauregardes, and Mike Teavees, make it a Charlie Bucket kind of night.

Ally, we're a community of people who are quite welcoming. I think the what is bothering some of us is that people who have never posted on here suddenly show up when they are giving out free stuff to beg people to sell tickets, that aren't transferable by the way. Come around and spend time with us when there isn't free giveaways and see how welcoming we are. This is a very accepting group. I've met in real life so many people that I would have never met if it weren't for this band and this forum. Many of whom I count as dear friends. Those of us who haven't won are disappointed, but I think I can safely say that we are happy for everyone who won this opportunity. You are more than welcome to come discuss all the aspects of Jim's solo project, MMJ's body of work, or other bands with us. You'll get responses and thoughtful discussion from us. You don't have to post every hour on this board to be welcomed. If I ever get lucky enough to meet you at a show, I'll buy you a beer. Cheers

I feel very lucky to have won, and would never sell a ticket to this.  I'm taking my buddy Kelly from Forecastlle.  To me, it was about asking someone who loves and respects the band as much as I do, and knows how special it will be to see Jim on his first solo show.
The band always seems to try and do special things/shows/sound checks etc. for their fans, and I'm sure there will be more to come, especially since it's Jim..........

That being said, all the roll call members that I saw at Forecastle and especially the ones who got to see the "soundcheck" under to overpass, well, everyone was super cool and friendly.  I felt a little out of place at first because I'm probably older than alot of you but the common thread is music and My Morning Jacket.

For those of you folks that are in Nashville and want to grab some food or hang out, send me a message! I live in Nashville and would love to meet some of the forum folks.

Those that are coming in from out of town, my opinion of three highly recommended places to eat are the following:

Mas Tacos - located in East Nashville
The Pharmacy - located in East Nashville (across the street from Mas Tacos)
Hattie B's Hot Chicken - located right off Broadway St. in Midtown

That is part of why I love this band, going to concerts, being on the forum... There are so many kinds of people, all different ages, from different places, with an array of professions, abilities, personalities - and yet we are all bound by the music, by a love of the community that we have created out of the music.

The Stone Fox has lots of vegetarian fare, but it isn't close to the venue. Somewhere on 12S will probably have something. Burger Up  has some vegetarian stuff on the menu.  We could possibly meet at 12 South Taproom and Grill beforehand if we get there early enough. It's not too far from The Basement, maybe a few blocks. There isn't anything right at The Basement so some driving will be required. If anyone wants to pick another place, let me know. I'm game for anywhere. Truthfully, I'd like to grab a bite to eat before the show too.

Here's the website (http://12southtaproom.com/drinks/). They have a good beer selection.

Seriously, I have to work and then by the time I get there it will probably be 6. Unless scosby comes and then he'll have my ass in line by 1pm at the earliest. There's no El Tio next to The Basement and Grimey's doesn't have food, although they do occasionally have beer thirty.

and do they serve adult beverages?  i'm assuming they do since it's strictly over 21.

2 simple, probably stupid questions:

i checked out this place with google street view.....where does one park?  is there room behind the building?  on a nearby street?

and do they serve adult beverages?  i'm assuming they do since it's strictly over 21.

There is a driveway right beside Grimey's with a sign that says The Basement. Go down it and you'll be behind all those buildings. Park back there. Yes, there is alcohol.

An EXXXXTREEEEEEME amount of gratitude to "rjlemons" for inviting me to be her "+1". Jacket Fans are the greatest!!!!

I'll be rolling in to Nashville after work, so won't be meeting up with you guys, but perhaps you'll see RJLemons there...?

Again, so much thx to Rebecca!!!!

From a more practical perspective, is there a good way of identifying forum members in public places without me wandering around like a lost duck and asking every table if they are "the" group and only getting blank stares or mistaken for a solicitor? I'm certain I've run in to several of you at numerous MMJ shows or soundchecks, but I figured I'd ask. Looking forward to meeting y'all at the 12 South Taproom!

Dap... You shouldn't have a problem identifying us. We'll be the group of people that look like we don't "belong" together. ie we range in all different ages, lifestyles, etc etc. though, this will be a smaller group. To make it easier, im currently wearing khaki pants, a green coat, and have long hair. Ill be with fully and scosby at least, and I imagine others.

Right on! Me at 12 South to random stranger, "Excuse me, do you have stars in your eyes? I must have you confused with someone else".

E_wind: Funny you should say that about the eclectic mix of people. One of my best friends, who I have been to MANY MMJ shows with and is also on this forum, always says that one of the most special things about MMJ is that people of all different ages and backgrounds all come together at MMJ shows. There isn't a specific "type" of fan (let's be honest...as much as I like Phish and Widespread Panic, it's pretty easy to identify the folks who are going to those shows!). It's the magic of MMJ's music that is able to reach anybody. I look forward to hanging out with you in a couple hours!

Carl opened for about 45 min or so

Main set:
New album

Encore:
Wonderful
Touch me 1 (w Carl)
Touch me 2 (w Carl)
Victory Dance (w Carl)

Wordless and it beats on setlist but replaced by wonderful

New album took an hour, long jam on the last song. Whole set was 90 minutes.

Yakeroo and I, along with a few other individuals, were waiting hours in the cold hoping for a miracle before Mr. Grimey finally let us in. The staff seemed like nice people and I got a high five from Jim on his way to the stage! I'll just add that to the high five I got at Forecastle and the finger touch I got in Alpharetta during Touch Me Pt.1

Great show, but I may add the crowd was terrible. A bunch of drunk people acting like they're at a Rascal Flatts concert. They were moving back and forth from their spot all night, bumping into people, spilling beers, texting, and looking up stuff on their cell phone all while Jim was performing. These folks need to stay home and let the real hardcore fans attend in their spot. There were even Roll Callers on the list that didn't show up

It wasn't like that where we were in front. It was a great show. The album translates very well live. Very well. The jam at the end of God's Love to Deliver was amazing. The entire show was like that. Jim's suit is a big improvement over the brownfit too. Jim looked alternately like a preacher there to deliver us a message and a sixties soul singer. Carl's set was so good. I could have gone home a happy woman after his set, but there was more. Also, with Carl there, it made it seem less like we were seeing a husband out cheating on his wife when Jim played Jacket songs with another band. I was so lucky to get to go to this. Thank you so much Waddy Peytona for asking me to go with you. I feel so lucky to have got to go to this show. I'm looking forward to May 2 when Jim comes back to Nashville. I"m even thinking about getting tickets for the Louisville show now. It comes at a bad time for me to take off work, but I'm going to have to seriously consider going.

Okay here's what I have to say: AMAZING. The whole day was awesome: I went to Grimeys first and bought a couple old PJ 7", a Phossy record, and BFs Damaged. Then hangin with Beth and Seth and Brad and Chap and meeting two cool ass people from this board for the first time: Sheets Of Clay and dapguitar. You all ruled.

Carl's set was awesome. It really shocked me how normal he was, but also how he has the persona that could totally front a band. He's not the shy little man I thought he was! I loved it and I love Carl.

Jim's set... Just wow. The album came through GREAT. Dear One and GLTD both rocked SOO hard. the album ended with a Dondante style jam. Really really awesome. The record definitely makes sense to me now. And, like Jim wanted, it was definitely a danceable event!

And the encore: I don't think I have to say how awesome it was to see Jim Carl Ratterman And Givan to fucking rip through some jacket songs. And I definitely recognize the bassist and drummer. I wonder if they're in bands here in Louisville?

Thank you thank you thank you Clay! I look forward to hanging out in Nashville and Wrigley (hopefully). You are awesome.

As far as the phones and shit, that did not go Down up front. I gotta tell you as far as annoying crowds go, that was about as little as you're ever going to get. One yelling bitch in the back that you knew was annoying not only you but everyone else ain't too bad. I've definitely had to Stand near much more annoying shit than that. For the most part, people appreciated the experience. But, there are always going to be in-greats fucking annoying the shit out of you and I got none of that (essentially) last night

Well, I wasn't at the show last night, but yelling and screaming repeatedly during the music should be added to the list of annoying concert behaviors if it is not on there already.

I understand the occasional yell or cheer, but anything beyond that is just obnoxious and rude.  Other people are trying to actually, you know, hear the show.

Had a similar experience at the SF New Multitudes show. (two girls screaming at Jim the entire night) Not cool when it's a more intimate performance or a quiet song. Makes it uncomfortable for everyone... We all get excited, understandably, but knowing when it's appropriate is being respectful to the artist and  fellow fans.

I wasn't going to travel out of town for this tour, but the show was so good I've already bought a ticket to Louisville. There's another rumored date that may pop up close by. If it does, I'm going to that one too in addition to the other two I've already planned on. Having Carl there really made the night special. Carl should open for all of Jim's solos shows. It would be awesome.

Seriously.  It's just basic respect and common decency (not just to fellow fans as Val points out, but to the artist that the person so adores).  Get ahold of yourself and take some time to just, you know, listen.  Or in the immortal words of Ice Cube:  chickity-check yo self before you wreck yo self!

Hey all...it was indeed a magical night, and I felt so blessed to be there with all you lovely people.

I feel inclined to apologize...because I think that I was responsible for some of those cat calls...and it truly saddens me to think that anything I said or did was offensive to anyone or diminished their experience.  I am already a pretty high energy person, but the absolute joy of being in that room perhaps got the best of me...so for my part, I am genuinely, genuinely sorry. You folks were such wonderful people and I will never be able to express how happy I was to be there.  I just hope I didn't ruin anything for anyone.
Mamakel, I wasn't at this show but I think it is sweet of you to apologize, assuming you were the screamer. A little self-awareness can go a long way.

When I was at Jim James at the Seelbach 3 years ago, someone up front just could not keep from screaming. I can't say it ruined the show -- nothing could have ruined that night for me -- but it did detract. To this day it detracts from the bootleg (I'm sure you can hear her if you listen.) I know that wasn't you because that screamer was a brunette. Lol.

Take care. DL

That was you, mamakel? I think I have to apologize too for being so rude in my original post. We all get carried away sometimes. Maybe that's why Carl wrote that song? Anyway, apology definitely accepted. It didn't ruin the show, it was just a bit more than what feels comfortable when all of us are figuratively sitting in the band's lap the way we were last night.

In case anybody is wondering, if it hasn't been done already, I may have solved the case as to how to pronounce Jim's last name. I was waiting by the door last night when several of Jim's family came in and when the door guy asked for the name, they told him it was "Olliges." It is pronounced like the word "colleges" but without the "C"   :bath:

And the wonderful thread that runs thru all of us that ties us to this band and all the boys in it.  Having I hope I can download a couple of pictures.  My memory isn't always the best, but kudo's the 2 U/Kentucky boys.  Thanks fo being so friendly and reminding me that maybe I can tour the whole country to see the band.
Beth - Fully, I'm glad I got to hang next to you on the rail.
Mama Kel...what a great adventure we had together...echoing victory dance in the hotel even before we knew that Jim would play it.
So much joy.  I can't enough how lucky I feel to have been there and right up front.  And one of the nice guys on stage breaking down all the instruments gave me one of Jim's picks.  That made my night as I play guitar.

Thanks everyone for posting tidbits and pix - almost felt like I was there, reading through all of the posts.  Sounds like you were very lucky folks and I'm glad you were all able to make it.
And Carl?!?!?  What an added bonus!!!!

This is all I've found so far. It's 19 minutes long as so far it just cuts off after a little of each song, but maybe it gets better. (Edited - It gets better though it does cut off some, but the guy that posted this gets props for including a lot of the night) He was standing behind me to the right. I can see allyclover who just joined the forum and my hair during Wonderful and Victory Dance.

I feel inclined to apologize...because I think that I was responsible for some of those cat calls...and it truly saddens me to think that anything I said or did was offensive to anyone or diminished their experience........I just hope I didn't ruin anything for anyone.
first of all, my buddy and i were directly behind you the entire night, and while you were certainly......ummm, noticeable because of your enthusiasm, you did nothing to lessen our enjoyment of the show.   you were a trip.

in fact, on the drive home we felt compelled to compose a haiku in your honor.  hope it doesn't come across as mean-spirited, it's not meant to be.

Once again, so so so many lifetimes of thanks to rjlemons for making it possiblefor me to experience last night . So gracious. And such a positive person. Just cant say enough about it.

I think my favorite part of the night was when Jim stated how much it meant to him to hear everyone sing along on Wonderful. The lyric ... The feeling... The night... Wonderful the way I feel.

Got a few pics I'll share when i get back home. Also gonna upload a few videos to youtube.

@ dapguitar... Can you send me the pic you took of me and Ratterman? Email heyeazy@me.com

You are so very welcome and you totally deserved the experience. I'm so glad the vigilant Yakeroo & Maghgeetah34 made it in as well! It was so good to meet you as well as so many other beautiful roll call members. What a night! Such a dream come true!

@ Fully - I'm in Memphis so I'm not far from ya! See you on May 2!

Wow, seeing that video takes me right back to Friday night. This show was so special! I love the new album and it was amazing live, especially in such an intimate setting. (Where is the emoticon for "blown away"??)

Thanks to Jim, for making this beautiful night available to Roll Callers. If y'all want another run through, how about Louisville or Lexington? (Buster's, maybe? It wouldn't directly compete with the Brown.)

Also, nice meeting you, Fully. I'm glad you got to go.

Thx to dapguitar for snapping this one and sending it to me. Ratterman was a complete joy to speak with and told us about how they had all been playing together for only 8 days! He continued saying how amazing all the songs were and basically allowed them to play whatever they wanted cuz the songs were so good. He went on to explain where everyone was from and how they came together, including Dave Givan who was a classmate of Jim's and was the drummer in Month of Sundays. Anyhoo, he was full of information, haha.

But I did want to try to document a few things. So glad for the video you shared by the person behind allyclover, tho. That is a terrific compilation of the entire set!

Also, there hasn't been a lot of talk about the insane amount of looping by Carl during his solo set. How freaking stellar was he!!!!!

Hi folks,

Sorry for just chiming in - I tried to spend the weekend away from the computer and am just playing catch up now on most emails and whatnot. It was so much fun to meet all the wonderful Roll Callers at 12 South Taproom and then hang out at the show. The show was incredible and the album makes a lot more sense seeing it live. I can't wait till the album comes in the mail! Below is Carl's set list from the show:

1) Carried Away
2) Enough
3) Questions
4) On the Case
5) Carl played a new song he wrote
6) Carl played a cover by Ron Sexman called God Loves Everyone
7) Retired
8) Carl played another new song

Carl's set was phenomenal. It just doesn't get any better when it comes to a solo act and his new songs were fantastic.

This has probably already been mentioned, too, but the encore was not what was listed in the set list. The enocre was as follows:

1) Wonderful (Jim solo)
2) Touch me part 1 (full band + Carl)
3) Touch me part 2 (full band + Carl)
4) Victory Dance

I haven't watched the videos but based on pics,  Ratterman didn't play drums?    What did he play?     Were the Jacket songs pretty straight forward or did the different band bring anything new to them?

Ratterman played guitar and some kind of midi sampler thing. He also left all his pocket change out on his table. The Jacket songs were pretty straightforward. It helped that Carl was there too, I'm sure. He played on most of the Jacket songs that were played, maybe all of them. I can't remember.

Carl played what seemed to be Jim's parts in Touch me 1, 2, and Victory dance, and Ratterman played Carls parts. I know that seems dumb, but I swear thats what happened. And also, Ratterman played some percussion on a different MIDI pad during the 3 man drum solo of Dear One.

I think Ratterman was playing Jim's part on TMIGTS cuz it seems I remember Jim & Carl kinda stalling waiting for him to come in on what is normally the flying V part...if that makes sense.

I'm not sure what this is, but I can't see it. I signed in to my drop box account and it wouldn't let me see it. Is it a picture or a video. Tell me what you are trying to do and I'll help you.

I don't think dropbox will work. If you put them on facebook, you can copy the url and paste them in or you can put them on a site like photobucket and then click the photo button up above. The paste the url in there. Or you can email them to me and I'll post them for you.

I didn't get any full songs but I did get a few cool clips of Carl and Wonderful - the audio rocks!

Here you go - MamaKel was right near my ear when Carl carried her away as you can hear

Great times though - so nice to hang out with everyone at 12 south - I included a picture of the bears in the vid.  Thanks Doug for the ride!

Switch to 1080p :-)

Thanks for sharing all the videos and pictures from Friday night everyone. Still can not believe Grimey let us in after he told us he was not going to. I guess he figured he might us well take our money since we had no problem listening to "Gangsta" Carl's set from outside in the freezing cold.
I will have to echo what mahgeetah34 said in that the crowd around us was horrible. I will attribute that to the alcohol and the fact that the majority of the people in there were not Roll Callers. I know Grimeys had a guest list as well as the radio station. It seemed most were disinterested in the solo stuff and just wanted to hear MMJ material.
The new album really does translate well being played live. I can not wait till the Cannery show and then Bonnaroo. It will be interesting from seeing Jim and the new band play in such a small venue to a larger one then to, I am guessing, one of tents at Roo.
Also, did anyone else see Jeff Coffin in the crowd? I got excited thinking he was there to play sax, but he just hung out in the crowd watching the show.

Mamakel, since I'm the one who first brought the issue to a head, I will answer you on this. I'm sorry that my comments offended you and hurt you. It wasn't my intention to hurt you. I thought the matter was over. I'm not sure where all of this is coming from at this point. We've all been there. It's not a huge deal; let's not turn it into one. I'll probably be the next one to make an ass out of myself maybe even by responding to this. I'm sure that you've heard yourself on the videos, but other than posting videos, I haven't noticed anyone getting upset. In fact, several people came to your defense. Truthfully, it was all I could do not to cause a scene on Friday night because this was a special performance and I just wanted to appreciate it. Luckily, I didn't to that, and I'm glad I was able to show some restraint. I don't think anyone other than my original post was mean spirited and I apologized for it. Let it go and move on.

This community is serious about it's music. We get along most times, but we all agree that we get annoyed by obnoxious behavior at shows. We've discussed it ad nauseum. We all have to ask ourselves are we being obnoxious. Sometimes we are and sometimes we aren't, but we all have to take responsibility for our own behavior and laugh at it if we do something ridiculous - which I have done plenty of times. Trust me, your behavior wasn't the end of the world, it was just annoying in that time and place. I don't even know for sure that you were the one who was doing all of the yelling. You are just the person who spoke up and said it was you. If you hadn't, no one would have ever known.

I hope you'll stick around this forum, you provide a unique perspective, but if you don't or you need to take a break for awhile, do so. If I'm being elitist or cruel in my response, it isn't intended. you've met me; there's nothing about me that makes me better than anyone on this board or any fans that don't post on here for that matter. I'm being pragmatic about this. When I make a mistake, I put my big girl pants on and own up to it, then I move on. I won't comment on this subject again.

:drum:  Those moves needed a drum to go with it. I have to say that his on stage persona as a solo artist is interesting to see. He isn't hiding behind his hair as much and he's really selling the songs. It's also interesting to see him not use his guitar as much. I really hope he goes back to Friday night's suit as well. That brown suit he wore on Fallon is too remiscent of the brownfit. I wonder if he just really loves brown. It's probably my least favorite color on men. That black suit looked and fit so much better (if anyone is reading this, please take note. I'm a good judge of this).

No worries, MamaKel. It didn't take anything away from my night. I am glad to hear that you are downgrading the intake tho. I too had a serious drinking issue and have been to some amazing shows and other events that i cant even remember. Tragic. And not to mention dangerous. And i dont know about you, but for me, if i was drunk i was more likely to involve myself in other substances or dangerous behavior.

I dont mean this as a poke at people that drink nor even drinking in excess. I simply mean to say I'm happy for you amd i believe your taking a step in a positive direction :-)

I guess what it comes down to is that in light of this self-awareness, I kind of tuned-in to how people were speaking to and about one another. And I know some people can get annoying at shows...living proof...it's part and parcel. But there is often this undercurrent of aggressiveness that comes along with it...like a belief that some people are more deserving of others to be there, or that someone acted more appropriately than someone else, and therefore has more of a right to comment on the music or something, and I think that is the attitude that is troublesome to me.  Looking at what a wonderful experience it was...not just despite the flaws...but BECAUSE of them...that it somehow added to the totality of the human experience.

Whoa whoa whoa...

You mean to tell me that the incessant screaming, at a literal average of 20 times per song, in a tiny TINY venue, during quiet songs is part of the experience? No.

I don't think I acted more appropriately than that, I know I did. It's not rude to comment on the screaming after the fact, either. It's rude to so selfishly distract other people from a once in a lifetime opportunity. If you think any of us are rude or out of line, you should be happy that we weren't in the Northeast, because there are plenty of people around here that would've let you have it right then and there.

Hate that this is my first post here, but, while we're on the topic of bettering ourselves in a live music setting, you (aforementioned offender) also cut in line on the way in. If it was a band that i had seen numerous times (how many is subjective) to the point where i felt a "sense of entitlement," you would have been marched to the back of the line.

You are fortunate the others at the front either did not notice or were too nice to say anything. As for "what if i was jims sister?," it would not deter me from telling you to stfu were we at an act i had seen over a hundred times.

That said, you seem genuinely remorseful you bothered others and i think that's the first step to recovery. Carry on.

Hey Mama Kel...you're a great lady, mother, friend, sister, daughter and mmj/jim adventure seeker.  No one is perfect, so let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I enjoyed the show, and until I read the earlier post, forgot that we did cut in line, so that was un-cool, and like it was posted earlier, either no one cared or were too nice to say anything.  But that was an honest mistake since we just stopped there to talk and stayed there in line....
That being said, This was my first show hooking up with roll callers except forecastle and pretty much everyone was extremely nice.  I'm looking forward to seeing Jim in both Milwaukee and Chicago and certainly hope to hook up again with more roll call friends.  Because that's where we are now...upcoming shows to talk about, and hopefully good memories to share.

i've been guilty of that as well, although i try to be really conscious of it now being that all of us know each other now and it would be easy to start chit chatting and just 'casually' hang up at the front of the line. i remember i did it once at T5 and felt bad about it..it's SO TEMPTING--not excusable but oh so tempting!

I probably keep repeating myself, but Jim was awesome, and the the band was equally impressive.  I don't want to forget to acknowledge them.  After the show, I talked a little bit with Kevin - what a nice man.
Thanks to everyone who filmed or posted video for this.  I left my camera at home and I'll never make that mistake again when it comes to filming or shooting pictures of any of the boys in the band.
Hope everyone has a great day today!

crazy close ... can't believe you were all so lucky to be there!
It was unbelievable, Val. You would have loved it. All that went through my mind all night was how lucky I was to be there and how much I wished all of y'all could be there too. Sometimes the stars align just right. I was so lucky I had an angel with the name Waddy Peytona smiling on me. scosby, ewind and caroline all were lucky benefactors of others kindness as well. The kindness and thoughtfulness of those who let us come to this made it even more special.

Here's hoping some of those same stars align for some of us that got shut out of JJ's show at the tiny Johnny and Brenda's in Philly.

I'm guessing there weren't since I haven't  seen anything posted, but just in case I missed  it, were there any poster for sale at this show or other merch?

Trying to decide on whether or not to bring a tube to Johnny/Brenda's on Monday.

Thanks
