Title: Canadian tour
Post by: Tony Houle on Feb 17, 2013, 05:22 PM
Will there ever be one? I am in Quebec, Canada and wanted to know if there would ever be a show in Quebec city or Montreal. There are a lot of fans of MMJ in Canada, and I really don't know if I will be able to go all the way to Toronto on a WEDNESDAY night when I am in College and have school the day after...Please feel free to comment and/or let me know if you know more about future shows. Thank you,

One of the greatest MMJ fans :D

They aren't touring this year. A Jim James show is the best you'll get for awhile.

Hey Tony!  Welcome to the forum.

My Morning Jacket include some Canadian stops on most of their major tours.  Metropolis in Montreal and the Ottawa Bluesfest were included on the 2011 summer tour.  As far as Jim's solo tour, only Toronto is included.

Stick around here and sign up to the My Morning Jacket mailing list to avoid missing their next visit north of the border.

Man, I feel sorry for you. Jim has played 9 times in my area in the past 2.5 years, 7 with MMJ, 2 with New Multitudes. I saw them all, plus having tickets to  his solo show in May. He seems to hit some hot spots with constancy , Canada not being one of them. If you are half the fan I am, that REALLY SUCKS!

Come on down to Toronto for the solo show in April, Tony!

Yes! I was definitely not ironic if that's what you're thinking! (I so rarely am, but people always think I am for some reason) Picked Sagan for you too, since you're the science guy!

That is the awesomest gif ever. So, is holding one's thumbs the Scandinavian equivalent of crossing one's fingers, as we do here for luck? How do you do it?

Never in doubt.  Just can't see the gif at work.  If its Carl Sagan, I'm cool with that.

Yes it is! Trying to spread it across the world, that and our socialistic way of living (higher taxes, wooo!).

You hold your thumbs like this:

You're supposed to do it with both hands and I also like to raise and shake my hands while I'm doing it to emphasize the intensity of the luck wishing. You should also make an appropriate facial expression that matches the thumb holding, for example "grim, but hopeful" or "super excited and happy". Feel free to pick whichever suits your luck-wishing-situation the best. Example:

I hope that MMJ will play in Canada on their next tour!
(and that Jim James will do a solo show in Europe!*)

* would call for an even more intense wishing, since it is less likely

If you really, really, REALLY wish for something to happen you can even go as far as saying "I'll be holding all my thumbs and toes".

I do that thumb-holding thing, but I do it to crack the knuckles—I'll start making wishes when I do that. As for more intense wishing, like for an MMJ show at Red Rocks this year, how about if I hold my thumbs and cross my toes, which I can do at the same time, whilst contorting my face into a super-happy-and-excited-and-grim-but-hopeful grimace?

Whatchu talking bout, ewind?

Hahaha, well if you do all that, the rest of us can just start making travel arrangements right away!

My bff is married to a Swede  so I'm totally going to hold my thumbs when I see him on Saturday.  Thanks for the cultural education, Sara!

Tony, I live in Ottawa, so I feel your pain.  My wife and I are big fans and we have to travel to see them. Anyway, I fully expect Jim to play either the Ottawa Bluesfest in early July or Ottawa Folkfest in September.  Keep a look out for that.

Well, for you poor Canadian fans, the probable reality is you will have to travel to see a show. They play regularly in Seattle, New England, Minnesota, Milwaukee, and other large Great Lake cities. They played Boise last year. Think about the fact that I have seen them 7 times in the LA area, all in relatively small venues, and the only one that sold out was the Pantages. Hate to be a bummer, but it is hard to argue with economics and history. As much as I think they should play Calgary, Winnipeg, Montreal, my guess is Toronto is your best shot.
