Oh, c'mon....
Take a half day off, we'll party before the show at my place, the show will be over at 11, you can crash at my place and be at work at a decent hour the next day.
So Rob, when does the pre-party start? I'm considering taking the whole day off.

No later than breakfast and perhaps the night before
So pickles and Syrah, IIRC from Port Chester.

Pickles and Syrah for breakfast sound like a good way to get the day started. I'm doing a Syrah mix with Grenache right now.
And what is "IIRC"?
The pickle supply is getting critically low, however. I'm going to have to put a lock on my basement fridge to stop the poaching. My own family members are raiding the supply without my knowledge and giving away jars as gifts to win friends and influence!
There is hope, however, since I just planted a bunch of cukes in the garden so maybe we can have a "2013 Pickles Nouveau" party as well by the time of the MPP show.

You know you can never trust family with the good things in life,.
I am sure we'll be able to improvise with other goodies if the crop doesn't come in time,.

I just checked the work schedule and someone on my team is out that week, so no time off for me that week. I appreciate the offer though!!
OK, getting pumped from reports of the first two shows. Will be an exciting tour! Certainly there must be more forum folks for the MPP roll call.
Good news! With all the rain, the cukes are going nuts. Will have the earliest pickling batch ever this weekend and that should set us up nicely for a "2013 Pickles Nouveau" and lots of other eats event at the pre-party at my place. Plan on things to get fired up around noon in advance of the show.
That's good news Rob.
Man these first two set lists have been everything I could of hoped for given it is a shorter set. The only one repeat in two days and pulling out a lot of things from the first two albums is awesome. I had to add another date for the Camden show after seeing those. Can't wait for this.
Hard to fit this in today but when the cukes come you must get it done.
Here are the cukes harvested from my garden the last couple of days plus some hot peppers and other ingredients.

Awesome, Rob. Can't wait.
Wow those are gorgeous!
I might have to change my work schedule to make at least part of the festivities. What time do you think you'll leave your house to head to the show?
Probably will leave for the show no more than an hour ahead of show time since we're so close and have seats. Festivities start around high noon.

That must have been an amazing show, Eric, a year before I moved down to the Baltimore area so I didn't see it.
I really like Genesis and have picked up a bunch of their vinyl lately to round out my collection.
But saw MMJ there now 3 times, REM, Winwood, The Dead, Allman Bros, Decemberists, CSN&Y, my daughter's graduation from HS, and about 20 shows I'm too brain dead to remember right now.
ONLY ONE WEEK TO GO!!!!
As promised, pre-party festivities will be starting at the GO4IT abode noonish. 2013 AmericanaramA pickles nouveau will be unveiled along with vintage 2012s and a variety of food, drink and music.
More good news from the garden - my tomatoes are staring to ripen so we may be looking at killer BLTs along with everything else.
PM/e-mail/text me if you are coming to the pre-party and need directions.
Can't wait for this show, going to Nags head for a few days starting tomorrow then I get 3 dates within a week. I am really hoping Bob actually does a collaboration for this one as I am only giving him one shot to make me stay through the entire show the next two times. I am expecting the crowd to be pretty solid as MMJ always rocks this place when they headline themselves so I think the crowd should be pretty into the show overall.

A very good week indeed!
First Merriweather, then on to Newport, Jim and so much more!!!
Only 1 day to showtime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The day is near. I had a terrible dream the other night: I lost track of time/forgot MMJ started so early and I missed the show. It took a few seconds after I woke to realize it was a just a dream. Once my anger changed to relief as I realized it was not yet Tuesday, I was able to go back to sleep. Weird stuff.
See you for lunch around 2:30.
My nightmare is that they don't play TWTHS. It seems like they play it every 2 or 3 shows on this tour so we are due since they haven't played it since Fri.
For a cover, I'd love to hear Isn't it a Pity.
Of course, I'll be happy with anything they play - they've had some great sets, albeit short for them, on this tour.
Really hoping we get a Strangulation, knot comes loose, or my personal favorite the Bear, but have a feeling we'll definately get O and a OBH to cap this show off.

That was how they started my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th shows, all within 4 days in April '10. As cool as that Steam Engine opener must've been, an OBH opener is like screaming out of the blocks!
The day has come Bitchez!
See you guys soon at Chez GO4IT.
As far as tonight, I'd love to see a debut for this tour, like Strangulation or Rollin' Back. I don't think either of those have been played yet.
But whatever they have in store for us, I'm sure it will be great as these sets have seemed pretty consistently awesome.
They did play Carried Away at Merriweather before in '10, that would be great to hear again. I'd also be very psyched for I Think I'm Going to Hell, War Begun, Dancefloors, and many more.
Excited for all you MPPers! Have fun and can't wait to see the setlist!

Bingham out for Don't Do It, s yeah! Both Carl and Jim nuts on guitars!
VD - killer version at end with Jim breaking out sax
That's all she wrote.
Two Halves...Carried Away - it evens out. So glad you got Carried Away, Go4It!
I personally love two halves. The lyrics are really heartfelt IMO.
Gideon was on the setlist after Victory Dance, but cut due to running out of time. A little tragic as the set really could have used that finish. VD ended up having a very interesting extended ending, though, once they realized that they had to end the set with it.
During Steam Engine, Jim threw in a little guitar jam after the "Red Patoka Sea" line, and neither Carl nor Jim played sax at the end of it.
Carried Away and Don't Do It freaking ruled.
I don't mind Two Halves and, frankly, it was a nice change of pace...set lists have seemed stale save for the rarities.
Victory Dance was fucking EVIL
IMO Two halves is a horrible song, made me want to vomit when I heard it from the rail. With that being said Carried Away was the highlight of the show and Steam, TWTHS, and Wordless are always great live. A decent set all around and by far the best of the night but thats an entirely different story, but nothing as fantastic as a lot of the MPP shows have been. I will say it seemed like the crowd was pretty receptive to the boys at least in the PIT and that they seemed to be enjoying themselves. Heres hoping to better luck tonight and on Sunday.
What a great afternoon and night. Mr. and Mrs. GO4IT are not only extremely nice people and hosts, but their grilling and food preparing skills are outstanding. If they generously host another gathering, I would love to go again and recommend other forum folk to go, relax, and sample the pickles and fresh veggies.
MMJ brought it as usual and threw in some nice surprises as you can see from the setlist. The place was filling up a bit for them and the crowd was supportive. Of course, it was a bit short but we knew that going in. I was hoping for MMJ to appear during Wilco, but unfortunately that didn't happen.
Wilco exceeded expectations. I'm not a fan of their country sounding tunes, which they pretty much skipped last night. I don't know their music too well, but what I heard last night mostly rocked. Every song sounded different, and the musicianship was top notch. I'm going to look for the setlist (if anyone has it, please post), and give those songs a listen to compare live vs studio. It was my first time seeing them, and not the last. I'd like to check out a headlining slot next time they come around.
Here you go Adam:
Wilco
Ashes Of American Flags
Bull Black Nova
Blood of the Lamb
Christ For President
I Am Trying To Break Your Heart
Art Of Almost
Jesus, etc.
Can't Stand It
Born Alone
Passenger Side
I Got You (At The End of the Century)
Heavy Metal Drummer
I'm The Man Who Loves You
Dawned On Me
A Shot in the Arm
The Lonely 1
I was so damned happy with that Ashes Opener and The Lonely 1 closer :cheesy:
Thanks Eric. I'm going to check out those tunes again.
I agree about the closing song of their set. Amazing slow song of which I could even understand most the lyrics, which were terrific.
I was too busy thinking about what wasn't happening (MMJ coming onstage a song with Wilco) to properly enjoy The Lonely 1.
I also didn't really like it as the final song of the set. Wilco usually seems to play it as the final song these days, but the final encore in a full set is pretty different to me than the final song of one of these shorter sets. I just wanted to go out on a more rocking note.
Quote from: JerseyDan on Jul 24, 2013, 10:37 AM
Victory Dance was fucking EVIL
Yes! So true. It was a bummer that Gideon was cut, but very cool to see them extend out the ending of Victory Dance. The ending of that song is so amazing, but over way too quick usually.
Well I must say I did enjoy this show overall, but the highlight was Rob and wife's hospitality as we really enjoyed the pre-gaming and can't wait to do it again next time theres a show at MPP.
Jackets set was solid with Don't do it, Steam, TWTHS were great selections and Carried Away was just awesome. Like I said previously the crowd seemed into it and Jim was passing out used towels to people and this one girl that was right beside of us got one which was nice as she was at the show with her father. The one thing that is missing from the set was more banter, but with quick sets theres just no time. The long Steam cost us Gideon, but we got that one last night so no worries there.
Wilco underwhelmed me majorly on this night, except for Art of Almost which is pretty awesome. With that said Nels is a fucking beast on the guitar, by far my favorite part of their set for me. Lastnight however I really liked the set, I never knew they sung Box Full of Letters, as that was one of my favorite songs a local pirate radio station used to play when I was growing up but never caught the name of the group so it was a walk down memory lane for me.
Dylan for me was a terrible experience overall. The band was great, but you could barely understand anything he was saying. It was kind of shocking to see the exdus during the set as at least a 1/3 of the people left during it, probably due to how bad he sounded. Plus I didn't like how he never addressed the crowd or really said anything.
Another thing that bothered me was while we were at the rail the security guys kept on trying to enforce the no photos policy and kept on getting in front of us while pointing to people in the back of the pit. That was more bothersome than the phones IMO and I was so glad VB didn't care at all so there were no issues there.
Still it was a great day in all accounts, glad to see everyone once again and can't wait to do it all again.
