Boyfriend's parents bought us tickets for Denver show...but boyfriend's parents live in Texas. Just spent 35 minutes on the phone arguing with three different levels of customer service with Ticketmaster, just to be told if I don't have the card physically on me, I can't get in to the show NOIFSANDORBUTS. "Customer Service" is unwilling to change any records so that I can access the show with a credit card that I have physically on me, and the ultimate solution is to have boyfriend's parents mail the credit card before the show and we mail it back after the show, ultimately putting us at a HIGH risk of identity theft. Is there REALLY no accommodation for the people who use someone else's credit card, or who received these tickets as gifts in our case, who don't have the physical credit card? If you didn't have to have the physical card to make the purchase (as per ANY internet ecommerce purchase), there should be accommodations for people who don't have the physical card when entering the venue.
P.S. this was a birthday present.

I HAD my card on me in Detroit and it still took about 30 minutes to get in the gates...good luck with whatever you can come up with.
I suggest your boyfriend's parents call TM and speak with a supervisor. The parents are the one that paid so customer service is likely going to listen to them over anyone else.
I've never known it to be such a problem to put will call tickets in someone else's name unless it was purchased thru a band's fan club (e.g. Roll Call or Ten Club). Lastly, if TM is not responsive to the ticket purchasers, the person at the venue may just ask you for the credit card and not a photo ID that. In that case, you're probably okay. Good luck.
I'm confused as to whether this is a Roll Call issue or Ticketmaster issue? In either case, have them send you a copy of their CC and ID, you should be okay. Cry if you have to, you'll get in.
Roll Call's (lack of) transfer policy is for a whole other thread...*sigh* :undecided: :undecided:
I think this one is a TM/LN issue, and only appears to be for the paperless (reserved sections) tickets. The paperless policy is available on the buy page, and is listed as an "important note" in caps there. It sucks that they can't be transferred, but this isn't all that new of a policy. Buyer beware.
IMPORTANT NOTE ON PAPERLESS TICKETS:
RESERVED LOCATIONS are electronic Ticketmaster Paperless Tickets ONLY. Please click here for more information on Paperless Ticketing.
Ticketmaster Paperless Tickets are NON TRANSFERABLE. ORIGINAL TICKET PURCHASER MUST ATTEND THE EVENT.
At ENTRY you must provide the CREDIT CARD USED TO PURCHASE AND VALID PHOTO ID. Name on credit card must match photo ID.
Entire party MUST enter the venue at the same time.
ALSO NOTE: Please adhere to the ticket limits for this event. Any purchasers over the ticket limit will be cancelled without notice.
Sure, I was made aware of this "you have to have the credit card to enter" policy. I have made many a ticket purchase with all different kinds of ticketing policies, and have always had customer service help me if there was an issue with the shipping address or, if you can believe it, had a customer service rep (not from Ticketmaster, of course) apologize that I could no longer attend a show due to relocating to Denver, immediately refund my ticket purchase with an e-mailed refund receipt, and resold the tickets through their Facebook page. That's customer service. I also ordered a limited edition vinyl album from Radiohead which came in the mail slightly damaged, and received a customer service inquiry response letting me know they would be running one final pressing on the record and would send me a copy in better packaging and I was free to keep my old record, and apologized for the inconvenience. That's customer service. I am ashamed at the level of customer service I have received from Americanarama, considering I am a Roll Call member, have been to half a dozen MMJ shows all over the country, am clearly not a broker or a reseller (bought the tickets under MY Ticketmaster account, even...), and yet have not been treated on a situational basis and am being told to risk identity theft to access tickets to a show.
When someone spends over $200 on presale tickets as a gift and the only way to access the tickets is by putting a credit card in the mail with NO ALTERNATIVE ACCOMMODATION, I find this dictatorial policy unfair and completely bizarre. Yes, I understand the entry policy was made aware to me as the consumer before entering the ticket purchasing process, but let's be real, presales are way too exciting and happen all too quickly to comb the details of the ticket purchase. Especially considering how many ticket purchases I have made in my day with excellent customer service experiences, to be treated like this for a show I was more than excited about (we had to sacrifice Bonnaroo, Forecastle, ACL and Fun Fun Fun Fest, and numerous local shows in order to afford the recent relocation) is harsh and unreasonable. What good are these policies if they end up preventing real, true fans from accessing the show and engaging with their favorite bands??
So much for a happy birthday.

What if I lose the credit card I used to buy my Credit Card Entrty/Paperless Tickets, or it expires?
Don't worry, you can still get in!
If your event is more than two days away, contact us by clicking the Ask a Question tab above and we'll make sure you breeze through the gate no problem.
If your event is sooner, please go straight to the venue box office with your new credit card, your photo ID, and your Ticketmaster order number and they'll get you in. Don't have your new card yet? Call us!

It's been tried before unsuccessfully. The problem in the case of the people who I know that tried this was the Photo ID. Almost all the paperless shows I've been to only needed the CC to swipe, and then a receipt/seat location thing printed out. No ID ever needed. When people I know tried the lost card thing, TM/LN worked with them on that, but made sure they showed a photo ID matching the CC name. Since it really wasn't their card, this ended up not working for them.
The thing that works best if anyone finds themselves in this position or possibly not being able to go, and want to sell the tix, is to buy the tix at onsale using a prepaid CC. Load it with enough to cover the tix, and if need be it can be mailed/passed on for someone to use at entry. I've used this in the past to buy Roll Call presale tix, and haven't had a problem. The one time I didn't, of course I ended up not being able to go, and the tix went to waste. RC or the box office wouldn't even let another Roll Caller have them to miracle someone.

oh ok... so if your card expires etc it will work but as a gift it may not?
No Bartel, I was saying that people I know tried to get around the purchase not being made with their card, and told TM they lost it and won't have the replacement in time. TM worked with them and was willing to have the tix held at will call so they wouldn't need to have the card swiped. The problem was they would have to have a photo ID with the name matching the purchaser, and since the weren't twins, the pic wouldn't match them anyway.
I do know that in the event of a CC expiring after purchase but before entry they have a similar policy to this.
Last I knew TM/LN wouldn't accept a gift card to purchase paperless tix, but they do accept prepaid ones. If you ever plan on gifting someone paperless tix, I'd definitely go the prepaid route, and pass the card along to them for entry. Unless of course you don't mind letting them have your personal CC in order to get in.
Basically unless I know without a doubt I'm going, this is how I buy all my paperless tix now, and Roll Call also. Any show I can't get a hard ticket to,or fear I may end up not going to for whatever reason, I buy with a prepaid so I can sell/give them away. Got burnt once like op, and not again. Fool me once.....

If you mean the credit card statement, yes. It'll have the same name as on the card, prove the tix were bought, and paid for, and also the acct# will match with the one they have as being used for purchase. I'd bet they're going to want you to show them a photo ID that matches the name on the CC statement too.

You got it. one more thing I would suggest is calling TM again, and speaking with a supervisor to make sure the info given to you by their rep is correct. Maybe even ask them if you should contact the venues box office as well. I wouldn't leave anything to chance or just take a reps word as gold. Get as much info from the supervisor as possible, and I wouldn't hesitate to get their name too, just in case..
Here's a TM USA Fan support # 800-653-8000.
Thanks, all, for your help and support through this difficult situation. Unfortunately, we've exhausted all options short of showing up to the show in two weeks with a printed e-mail confirmation and my boyfriend's ID who has the same last name as the name on the confirmation, and a heart full of sorrow to pour out onto some unsuspecting venue employee. Most times, face-to-face is more effective than talking over the phone to the robots at TM/LN. Even though we have called the venue multiple times, all of the event parties involved are holding strong to their stance against helping us out due to the policy. It's understandable no one wants to go out on a limb...they would get in more trouble helping someone out than anything I can do or say against them. What a crappy feeling!
So, wish us luck...but we're going into this expecting to be turned away, unfortunately.

Good luck.
Are your gifted tix reserved, or pit? I would suggest buying a couple of cheap lawns to get in, bring a printout of your confirmation, and try to get to those seats once inside. If they're pits it might be more difficult as most venues mark the ticket, and then wristband pits.
If they're reserved, and you get stopped for your tix in the pavilion, the printed out confirm might get an usher to let you through. Especially if it's early, and the venue isn't near full. The confirm might not get you in the building, but it could help get to your seats. It's not like you're taking someone else seat or stubbing friends down. You know no one else is coming for those seats.
Here's what I did when I ran into a somewhat similar situation.
Have your bf's parents do the following:
Photocopy both sides of the credit card used for the purchase, both sides of a matching ID, and compose a letter (with signature matching the credit card & the ID) authorizing your bf by name for pick-up of the tickets. Since you have concerns about identity theft via the mail system, have his parents either A) scan those documents and email them to you, or B) fax them to you at an eFax number, which sends an e-copy of the fax directly to your email address. (It was free when I signed up years ago, but who knows now.)
Ok...I lost my wallet with my card I bought all three of my Americanarama
Shows with. I took them a bank statement showing where I purchased the ticket each individual night and they printed me a new ticket each night, Atlanta took about 20 minutes and Tuscaloosa took about ten but it worked, the only issue I see here is the fact his mom actually bought the tickets, maybe an authorization letter with a copy of her drivers license and a bank statement will work...at least try, trust me, the people at the venue are much better than the people on the phone
My CC I used has my maiden name on it, but my driver's license has my married name. So I'm saying they better not give me any shizz because we're driving all the way down to LA for this show. I'll have the card on me, so it probably won't matter much. I plan on logging in to my Ticketbastard account and showing them what is what, if I must.
PIT OR BUST!!!
:drum:
Good call by ericm on resorting to cheap lawn tix and then making your way to your real seats with the print out. Also good suggestion by Woldie.
It can't hurt to have the actual credit card on you. I don't think your boyfriend's dad would accuse him of credit card fraud or whatever thing TM said you would doing illegally if you possessed that credit card.
My Radiohead tickets were paperless (in my name with my credit card). But my point is that he people at the venue were in such a rush they just swiped my credit card and let me in. They didn't ask for ID or even look at the credit card I handed to them to check my name, etc. Of course that is one example, but if the people are busy they might just blow by the details of checking everything. What a supervisor says at a 800 number might not be what occurs at the venue when thousands of people are arriving at about the same time.
Never give up! EVER!
I had 4 tickets to a sold-out aftershow for Newport Folk Fest weekend. I can't go so I arranged to transfer them to another forum member, despite them being will call and NO TRANSFERS being the policy. I gave her this letter and the email confirmation to take to the box office.
I should think having the person who bought your tickets do the same (use my letter as a template), and include the line that you already arranged this with someone from Ticketmaster customer service ("we were told by TM customer service to present this letter in order to get the tickets we got as a gift"), should do the trick. The key is be confident and be respectful. Act like its all set. Good luck!
That might work John, but the big problem I see for the OP is these aren't tix held at will call. They're "paperless" which means instead of tix being scanned at entry, you need the CC to be swiped at entry, the seat info gets printed out in a small, receipt like stub, and in you go.
It would be great if their family member could somehow get that CC to them, and then they'd be all set. I don't ever think I had to show ID at any paperless show, unless there was a problem. That happened once when the swipe thing ran out of paper after printing out the 1st of my two stubs. The usher walked me to a table with a laptop, they looked up my order, checked the CC and ID, and gave me two hard tix for my seats. Every other time I only needed the CC.
Like Apr said, the people working doors are too busy to check. They don't check ID when scanning tix, and they don't when swiping CC's either. Here's hoping the OP can get a hold of the purchaser's CC.
my buddy who lived up north had a ticket for the west palm show in his name. a few days before he couldnt make it down b/c of an emergency. he got on the phone and bitched his face off until they sent him a emailed copy of his ticket. he bought the ticket with a NY address and NY had a class action suit against livenation over the whole paperless ticket thing. he basically just mentioned the lawsuit to them and how he had a ny address and they were bending over backwards to accodate him. just bring up the lawsuit and the supervisor should make it happen for you. hope this helps

MEOW YOU'RE TALKIN. thanks much to everyone...hope to update soon with any news but you all have reminded me of the power of community against corporations. LOVE Y'ALL.
UPDATE:
Boyfriend's mom (cardholder) called Ticketmaster and they were also rude to her and offered her the same shi++y solution: put yourself at risk so the company is free of responsibility, and too bad.
Ticketbastard = :evil:
Also, I filed a complaint with the BBB, which TM is registered with, and they let me know they forwarded my complaint on to the company. I expect nothing to come of this...but I couldn't let it go.
ok so now I have another ticket issue.. my wife who bought the tickets may not be able to attend which leaves me stranded without a solution. brilliant!

If she can't go, I'm sure your wife will let you take her CC to the show. As I said earlier, almost every single show I had "paperless" tix for, they never asked for ID. They just need the CC to swipe at entry. Hard tix left at Will Call however, almost always ask for a photo ID and the CC.

I totally get your frustration, but frankly I don't get filing a complaint with the BBB unless it was about their rudeness. I'm no fan of TicketBastard, but their "paperless" policy is clearly spelled out. If they changed to "paperless" after the sale, when you were expecting hard tix to be mailed to you, then I would agree that you would have a gripe, and a BBB complaint has merit. However, I don't see how TM did anything wrong here, unless again your complaint is about their rudeness.
The entrance, and non- transferring is why there are paperless tix to begin with. It was an attempt to keep the best tix away from scalpers. Every show at a LN venue has this policy for the tour as far as I know.
FINAL UPDATE:
Submitting a complaint to the BBB was successful. A very nice woman called my boyfriend's mother to verify that as the cardholder she is aware of this issue, and to let her know TM would be issuing a full refund and also re-releasing the tickets online, which my boyfriend repurchased with his local credit card.
Interestingly, my boyfriend paid very close attention to the notifications of this overly strict policy throughout the purchase process, and I would disagree this policy is "clearly spelled out" prior to purchase, especially if you are working within the standard timeframes of pre-sales as we were for the original purchase. See screenshots: http://imgur.com/a/Ko13e (http://imgur.com/a/Ko13e).The "Notes" and "Warnings" are either not relevant to the policy or cut off and not made blatantly clear that there is "NO ACCESS WITHOUT ORIGINAL PURCHASING CREDIT CARD" without having to maneuver the different pages and info categories to seek this information. I've made "Paperless Ticket Entry Only" purchases before, never to the point that the purchasing card must be presented, ruling out any kind of gift option.
Thanks again, everyone, for your support and advice. I am very happy that we reached an appropriate resolution, but disappointed that I can no longer be a customer of TM.
I'm glad everything worked out for you. Enjoy the show.
We'll just have to agree to disagree on their paperless policy being made clear. Even your screenshot shows it as an "important note" right on the buy page. Once you click on that, the whole explanation of the policy comes up, That info is on every paperless buy page, and available as soon as the page is up. It's not just there during the few minutes of buying while the clock is ticking to buy. It's up there with onsale times, ticket price range, ticket limits, etc, as soon as the show is listed, well in advance of the onsale. You have to click on those things too in order to get that info.

yeah the OTHER issue is her CC expired which was fine if she could go.
TM were actually very helpful and offered a refund so crisis averted. I can go ahead and book the tickets on my CC and all systems go.
