Starting a new thread this morning.
A good friend saw Spanish Gold last night in Austin and spoke with Patrick at length - when asked about OBH2, Patrick just said "pay attention tomorrow". This, coupled with the OBH tease on Facebook yesterday, means we will likely hear something good today.
So - here's a thread to freak out in!
Chic - Le Freak (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1qQ1SKNlgY#)
could not be more ready
BRING IT ON!!!! I'm "officially" ready.
If you wanna Freak Out, come on Yeahhhh!
I'm gonna Freak Out and do a Victory Dance when it's official.
C'mon! C'mon! C'mon!!!!
Please let that leaked lineup be real!
The website is up...
Band of Horses, The War on Drugs, Dawes, Pres Hall, Sylvan Esso, and Biz Markie. January 31-February 4, 2015.
http://mmjonebigholiday.com/ (http://mmjonebigholiday.com/)
BIZ MARKIE?!?!?!
Ohhhh man that "Just A Friend" singalong will be TOO GOOD.
Too bad the Shakes couldn't make it, but love me some Dog, some Dawes and some Drugs.
I would guess the Biz is going to DJ this year. Band of Horses will do two shows, one acoustic as the sun goes down.
Pre-sale (June 26) is for return attendees, Tickets go on sale June 27.
Great news! Can't be picky but BOH is a big meeeehhhhh for me. :)
So excited to remove Dr. Dog from the bucket list!
 for me
:cheesy: for all you people that will be going
I love this lineup!!!!!!!
Looks amazing.
With the Super Bowl being on the 1st/2nd day and many Americans treating the game as a pretty big deal a) is anyone concerned about that and b) do you think something might be done such as having a more "minor" concert on Sunday night and NOT putting a MMJ set anytime before 10:30 pm?

fantastic
Wife and I are all over this. I read a lot of the forums experience at the first OBH, and it seems pretty positive. Can anyone who went care to share any experiences, mainly bad?

I'd love to go. Not sure I'll be able to swing it or find anyone to go with. But this looks amazing.

I typically see the glass half empty and there isn't much I could complain about. I think most people will tell you the food wasn't the best but it was made up for by the awesome staff, continuous flowing booze, and 80 degree temps in the middle of winter.
I will be dropping the cash to do it again.
Can someone post reviews of the rooms? Deluxe Gold, Concert Courtyard, etc. What did you stay in and what will you go with this time?
I want to go so bad! But why does it have to be so expensive!? 1300/person is a nice chunk of change...Maybe next weeks freebie Friday is a room for OBH! :cheesy:
This is definitely a huuuuuge expense, albeit an oh-so-tempting one. I am slightly justifying it because it looks like OBH2 will be the only MMJ dates in the near future. Therefore by putting all my cash eggs in OBH2, I likely won't be missing out on a NYE-type event. However, one could likely do a different week-long exotic trip and then take a North American MMJ road-trip in the spring for the same cost. Choices, choices...
These reviews and pictures from last year have pretty much sold me. Just gotta budget the fuck out of every dime I make for the next six months. Hmmm...

We stayed in a Deluxe Gold room last time. The room was fine, but pretty far from the stage. We talked about paying the extra for a Deluxe Gold Concert Courtyard room this time, but for an extra $500.00, I think I will save that money and do an extra night.

We originally booked the Platinum Deluxe room and ended up upgrading at the last minute to a Single Sky Terrace. The room would be the only thing that I might complain about as they were literally finishing painting when we walked in. The views from the terrace were spectacular but overall it was disappointing. There was no furniture, no bathroom cabana (not needed, but it was advertised), and the terrace was filthy both the floors and the hot tub. No cover for the jacuzzi so the jets spit out gravel and bugs. I didn't notice any upgraded liquor either, but again not a big deal because we are mostly beer drinkers. Last year the concert court yard was cheaper and we were definitely jealous of those rooms, shortest walk to the stage. I think we are going to get the cheapest room this year, being there is the most important thing and everything is only a short walk away.

not to be an ass, but if youre in your room for more than a total of 5 hours outside of sleep, youre doing it wrong.
we got the concert courtyard and the location was great. the room was pretty basic, but like i said up there, you wont be in there much.
So the food was decent? Nit a huge concern, will be going in town for anything real nice. What about booze? Is it all montezuma whisky or are there some decent options that won't make me feel like total ass.
Also, how many people max can go to this?
Love playa, been there a bunch. Just want to get an idea of what a concert basd trip there would be like.

Caps out at 2500 people. I don't think it sold out last year, but I bet it will this go around.
Website says pre and post nights "must be paid at time of booking"
Does that mean you have to pay them off when you make the deposit or pay them off when you make your two payments? Hopefully the latter.

Yes, you have to pay the extra nights in full at time of booking.

the food was probably the only disappointment. there were a few good restaurants, and honestly the buffets were better than the actual sit down restaurants as far as we were concerned. it wasnt bad, it just wasnt what i would call great by any stretch. they had call and premium liquors at all of the bars. its pretty far from "town" 20-30 minute cab ride. we never left the resort except on our last night (extra day at the end).
to add on to my above post. the rooms were basic, but they were pretty nice. nice bathroom relatively comfortable bed. that being said ours was 100% complete when we checked in so no issues with that.
Get the cheapest rooms they offer. Like potsy said, if you spend more than 5 hours in there, you're wasting your time.
The food stinks, but that really isnt a concern to me.
You have to pay the extra nights in full at the time of booking the extra nights. You can add the extra nights on later. You do not have to decide to stay extra nights and book them next week, though.
There are too many acts on this in my opinion. Especially with BoH playing 2 shows. 10 shows is too many when only 3 of them are the only band I would travel to Mexico to see. That being said, WoD and Dr. D > anyone who played last year.
I also wish they were re locating, but whatever. I can't wait to go back.

We booked 2 rooms last year. One Deluxe Gold and one Rock Platinum with Sky Terrace. Honestly, with as little time we spent in the rooms, I won't book the sky terrace again and will just do 2 deluxe golds (although might do one of them premium deluxe). We have kids so we stayed away from the concert courtyard, but if I didn't, I would be all over the concert courtyard.
Looks like me and the wife are in for this! Finally...

They don't offer it this year*, but we did an ocean front One Bedroom with the double sky terrace. It was fantastic, but barely finished.
We did spend some time in the rooftop hot top (over looking Cozumel - it was fun to watch the cruse ships leave every evening). That said, it was overindulgent and unnecessary. The only way I'd splurge again is if I got lucky enough to get the primo room = 3rd floor stage front double bedroom suite, carl's side (Jim's side was given to the band/roadies I think).
*We had a two bedroom double sky terrace but our second bedroom was sold to someone else.
I'm a little confused by some of this lingo...what's this 'opt-in' stuff for roll call members? Are they going to try to sell me an opt-in token to access the presale? Then tell me that there are more tokens than rooms available and I won't be guaranteed a room? Someone please tell me my reading comprehensions sucks and I don't understand this correctly....
EDIT: never mind, I think I get it now. As long as you sign up/buy roll call by the 23rd you'll get a token to use for presale on the 26th.
Roll Call members can opt-in for One Big Holiday to receive a unique token to book ONE room at My Morning Jacket One Big Holiday beginning on June 19th until 5pm on Monday, June 23rd. Information containing your specific token date and time will be sent out via email from Cloud 9 Reservations by June 25th. If you have not received an email from Cloud 9 Reservations prior to the Pre-Sale on June 26th, with booking instructions as well as your Cloud 9 username, password & unique token information please contact the Cloud 9 Travel Team at 561-368-8922 or via email at customerservice@mmjonebigholiday.com.
Signing up for Roll Call and/or opting-in to the Pre-Sale does not guarantee you a room at One Big Holiday.
PLEASE NOTE: There are more tokens than rooms available. Pre-Sale tokens are non-transferable and can only be redeemed by the token holder during the Pre-Sale on June 26th.
MMJ, BoH, Dr. Dog and DAWES! I've gotta make it happen this year!

if its the same as last year, and im assuming it is, the token is basically a place holder for the pre-sale. you are not buying the token. if you are roll call or went last year, you automatically get a token. i am guessing they are throwing the other language in there to cover their asses in case it sells out before all the pre-sale tokens are used. i wouldnt worry about it selling out on the 26th.
The tokens are assigned times to call to make your reservation. I expect the tokens for those that attended last year will have first priority. Then Roll Call member tokens will have priority after returning peeps. The way i read it was once you joined roll call through the link in the email you will have an option to secure a token. I don't think they'll charge for the token. It's really just a place in line.
If this shit sells out at all I'll be surprised. I'm gonna book a room next week either way, but still I can't imagine it selling out after last years turn out
What does "Token Redemption" mean?
We are going to this one. Didn't make last years, but this year its going to be a birthday present for wife and I.
So, we want to do it up right, Are the Stagefront suites nice? Does that mean you can walk out and be at the state quick or what???
Quote from: BH on Jun 19, 2014, 04:43 PM
What does "Token Redemption" mean?
just think of the token as a place holder in a ticket purchasing line. the redemption is the purchasing of the ticket.
Has anyone that went last year received an email from cloud 9 with their token? i thought it said we would receive those today.
Quote from: BH on Jun 19, 2014, 04:43 PM
What does "Token Redemption" mean?
Just means calling at your assigned time to book your room. Tokens are just a spot in line to make your reservation. It's something like 4 or 5 tokens for every 15 minutes. So you may get 10:15am that day while I get 12:30pm. And since they have a handful of people to take phone calls, I believe a handful of people will get the same times. They've done this for the last couple years for panic and they did not sell out with tokens, but have sold out the events.

Did anyone go by themselves last year? Is there any way for people to split rooms or do I just need to front the 2.5k?
We were there last year as a pre-wedding-honeymoon-gift couple (I shit you not, Golden just came on on random itunes shuffle as I write ths... that was the warmup song the boys did on day 1 in the middle of the day... one of the best moments) and said we were glad to go to the first one expecting it might be years before we get to come back... but holy fuck, shit, balls-on-fire do I want to go again!
Last year we stayed three extra days in all and it still went WAY TOO FUCKING FAST! One recommendation to anyone new going... bust your ass to get extra days... do whatever it takes! Trust me!
Can't see how we'll be able to swing going back-to-backs... but how awesome would it be to watch the Superbowl and then walk further down shore to an amazing MMJ experience?
I'll never say never... but this is going to take some magic to pull off... but gotta try!
Good Luck to all the re-ups and first-timers!

did you guys stay extra days at the hard rock? We fully intend to stay extra days, but have no intention to spend them there. Wife and I honeymoon'd in the area and love it, will probably head down for a few days in Tulum after OBH.

Werljam,
Yes they had a system last year for pairing singles up. "We" didnt use it and I didnt speak with anyone who did, but trust me do whatever it takes to defray costs to get there its well worth it....
Had a concert courtyard room - highly recommend it, because you can literally watch the stage from your room, or....if you've been drinking a lot, you are literally steps away from your personal toilet. It's also pretty much the center of the entire resort, though most of the activity happens in the Heaven side, which is really just a building or two over.

For us, we went down early and stayed at this place called Nueva Vida de Ramiro in Tulum. The place was incredible. We had duplex cabana that was about 200 feet from the beach. Prices varied, but were reasonable. They have some great restaurants in Tulum.
Tulum is amazing! Can't wait to go back.

So which package is this room? The suite or what?
Keep in mind though, that the courtyard is football field size... The rooms in the back half are too far away from the stage to see anything, and there is no guarantee that your room will be close.

The concert courtyard is probably 2 football fields. we were in the back and had no stage view nor could we just slip out to our private bathroom. it was convenient, but do not assume you will be on top of the stage if you get one of these rooms.

We stayed in Tulum on the beach for several days after OBH. I get burned out on the all inclusive resorts. If you don't leave the all inclusives, it's hard to truly distinguish that you're in another country. I love the rustic "resorts" that basically have no immenities and immerse ourselves in the local culture. And I LOVE Tulum. The little strip of yoga resorts along the beach is so quaint. I could live there.

I flew solo last time. Probably this time. I have no friends who would fork out the $$ for this, and I ain't paying for my ex-wife who would love to go. The only draw back for the solo thing is sharing a room with a stranger, which is always a dicey issue. I had no problems.

I just sent ya an email and a PM. Get back to me ASAP! :)
I am happy to honestly answer any questions from first-timers. In short, I'll say this was one of my top trips ever. Like many, I was worried after seeing the bad reviews when the place hadn't been finished 100 percent (if anyone recalls that nightmare). We were lucky that only problem with our room was that key didn't work first night. Gold rooms are great, huge bed/shower and a hot tub. Echoing what many said, you don't stay in your room that often (or shouldn't). We had a fully stocked bar, and aside from water/Coke, poured a drink once.
Every time you walk into one of the main lobbies, there's drinks galore. And I can't stress enough the kindness and friendliness of the staff. They absolutely work their asses off for you.
The food-hey, it's not 5-star, and that's being real. Hopefully some has improved. The steak restaurant and Japanese were my favorite, but buffets aren't bad as well (and there's something to be said for stumbling over at 3:30 am and being able to get a cheeseburger and taco).
Can't say much about the excursions b/c we didn't go. Too much fun on the resort. May try to do the golf trip this year, depends. The pools are fun, with swim up bars and a waterslide (oh, the waterslide!). You meet a lot of friends those days.
I was one of the ones who put BOH on the list when Cloud 9 sent out the survey, so pretty jazzed about that (sorry to the Horse Haters on here, but they really are a great band).
Questions, let me know. If you can make it happen, it's worth it. Trust me.

We certainly looked at other places while walking around the neighborhood, but I would guess we'll go back to OM. When a small place like that makes us happy we make an effort to go back and support.

The deal on the credits was OK. We used ours at the spa and golf tourney. We were supposed to be able to use them at a specific gift shop which wasn't available last year due to the resort conversion. You cannot use them for golf club rental. And from what I remember (and maybe I'm wrong) you could not use them for the excursions other than golf.

You can only use them for excursions offered by the hotel, not the ones offered by Cloud 9. Talking with Cloud 9 last year, the hotel offered limited excursions during OBH. I would guess so they didn't compete with Cloud 9, but also for timing with the concerts. concert.
We used ours for upgraded bottles of wine and lobster tails at dinner on our last night (which were amazing). I'm not exactly sure how the lobster tails work as we ordered them at the Mexican Restaurant they were cooked with a Mexican theme. I'm not sure if you order them at the hibachi spot if they'll come Asian-themed. I tried to use mine for the golf tourney but due to unforeseen rumrelated circumstances, that didn't happen. Also, fair warning you do have to pay tax on the credits you've used when you check out of the hotel.

Trust me.
Id echo many of the sentiments above from the concerns about the resort (most of which were resolved prior to arrival or worked on ASAP) to the food being fine but not a reason unto itself to go there (3 stars maybe?) to the late night food needs. My wife and I did the late buffets as well as the room service and both were spot on given our condition.
As virtually everyone says and I agree the staff is what makes this place humm and YES bring plenty of single bills and your service will be nonstop (I brought a mix of $200 1/5's and managed to make it last the whole time).
We came in a day early and I gota say not having to deal with the lines, scramble to figure out the resort and be able to decompress from the trip was the way to go for us.
We did the day of service and I was thrilled to be part of it, was OUTSTANDING.
We also went into town on our own to "get supplies for me" for an afternoon and that was a ball as well (and many people at the show benefited from my not so good rolling skills)
As to the golf, the course is great, and I see a couple others on here were in the same tournament I was and may have different thoughts, but I was thoroughly disappointed and would not do it again. There was no organization at all, they dropped us at the course and the course wasnt really into getting it organized either. I had far more fun the other time we golfed with "the dood from England" we met at the resort who was a world traveling MMJ fan.
We stayed on the backside of the "concert courtside" rooms and LUV'ed it...centrally located to everything and we were able to run to the room between sets if we choose. To many peoples points, if you win the lottery there are a few cool rooms on the stage side that would give u quite a view of the stage, but most are so far back that if your into the show theres noooo way your staying in your room.
If we had one thing we would change (and will) its we did to much off site stuff including a day just the two of us rented a deep sea fishing boat and went out. There is so much to do at the resort that we missed out on (including relaxing by the pool) that we hope to spend more time at the resort mingling, relaxing, smoking, drinking and whatever....

I must be missing something. I this a tool to have returning customers and Roll Call members a days jump to buy tickets? I don't think there is any need to rush, the "stampede on day one of sales will be no more than 15-20% of buyers. This ain't like Led Zeppelin tickets are going on sale. For anyone was there last year, is there some indication that this year the demand is going to be double? I heard estimates of 1200-1500 tickets sold. Many, months later.
What people have said about concert courtyard is true. It's long. I guess we were lucky enough to be back only 2 buildings from the stage, so we literally had the courtyard bars and buffet practically at our terrace. I would opt for ocean/lagoon front if it weren't for the fact that most of those rooms are king bed only, and we want our own beds - plus, you could be potentially 5 buildings away in either direction. I wish they offered the option to select our building.
I am hearing more and more that roof top terraces are no big thing and they cost more.
I was in a 2 bedroom suite with a roof top terrace at an after-party, and *IF* we had a party of 4 and *IF* we could all afford it, *THAT* is the way to go!! However, again, just exactly how much time do you intend to spend in your room. We were in our rooms long enough to sleep or shower - and that was about it.
Realistically, you will be up long enough to eat, maybe take part in some resort activity or excursion, eat again, getting your place for the concert, rocking out for about 4 hours, then heading to either an after-party or dance party until 4 am....maybe even wait for the sunrise, then you head back to your room to grab 4 or 5 hours of sleep.
this may be an extremely silly question (for those who went last year) - when you are booking the trip, did you book online or by telephone with one of the cloud9 representatives? just wanted to see what might be the easier route...

I consulted via telephone for questions several times, then when the final decision was made, did it online.
As a Roll-Call Member, where do you "opt-in"?

log into your roll call account and you'll see the option to 'opt-in'.
I wish I would have understood this process better earlier, as your token time is based on when you opted in, I just figured this out today, would have done it a few days back had I understood this. Oh well, I'm sure everyone who wants to attend will have no problem securing a room.

Few questions about the resort credits:
1) What did you use yours for? Did it feel like a good deal?
2) The website says you can use them for golf, if anyone knows, can you use them towards club rental?
3) What type of excursions can you use the resort credits for?
Thanks guys
I think there was just one excursion that you could apply credits toward, and in my opinion it wasn't worth leaving the resort for that one. I don't remember the specifics.
The credits felt like a good deal because it made it seem like the massages were free. We didn't even use the 500 we got. I'm hoping this year we can use them for different excursions or maybe that shop gluvmilller mentioned.

The only thing the shop allowed credits for were a 3 pack of different flavored tequila, and cigars. I purchased them, and it still cost $20, and gave them away.
I used my RC to opt in the moment it was announced. Still haven't received an email with my spot. Anyone else?

My buddy did the same thing and he was told he would get his email with his token time on the 25th.
When it says we can only reserve ONE room per token, does that mean I can still buy two passes for my wife and I?

Yes, 1 room is for 2 people
But it's still the $1,400 per person, correct? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to make sure I understand everything now instead of last-minute sitting at my computer on Thursday.

All room prices are PER PERSON double occupancy. Each "token" is good for one room. Deposit is $250 PER PERSON. Folks who attended OBH1 should get their token email today. Roll Call members should get their token email tomorrow, the 25th.

That is correct. One token is needed to book the room for the both of you. That is why there are so many tokens out there..... Each person who attended OBH1 got one.
Thanks for clearing things up, guys. I really appreciate all of your help.
For booking our OBH1 trip I used a cloud 9 agent over the phone. Felt really comfortable talking the process through and making sure nothing got screwed up. Sure the website works just fine too though! ; )

Same here, no token thingy yet. Not too worried, as I'm sure it won't sell out in the presale, but still.

Sooo, what room would be the ideal room for this experience? If you had your pick no matter the cost what would you go with??
Still no token......

did you do the opt in thing? I was initially confused, and thought that just by renewing/purchasing the roll call membership that you were automatically opted in, but you had to go through a separate 'opt-in' process. Didn't figure this out until days after I could have done, putting me further back on the list...but not worried.
also maybe check your spam folder.

Thanks! Didn't think of that earlier. It's been in there for 4 hours now.
So I renewed my Roll Call membership, did the whole "opt-in" deal, but still did not receive the token today... anyone else in the same boat?
On a side note, Spanish Gold in SF tonight was a good time...
Spoke with cloud 9 this AM and they got me my "token." No explanation but at least it's fixed. I suggest calling Cloud 9 if you still haven't received yours. Phone number is 561-368-8922
What kind of opening set is there each night? I'm stoked to be able to catch Dr. Dog, War on Drugs and Dawes but I'm wondering if they'll get a decent set length at all? Wish it was Dr. Dog headlining the off night but I've not really given BoH much of a chance yet so I'll have to have a listen to them before January.
My token isn't working!!!!!!!!!!
Should there be a OBH subforum?

Are you copying and pasting the number? That didn't work for me three times in a row. It worked the first time when I actually typed it in.

I called, waited on hold, they made me leave a message. Got on online chat, they had a person call me immediately. Their website made me two user accounts. It's kinda janky. but, I got my room!!!!
The wife and I are booked....will be our first OBH but RMPOTSY and others from the Ville will show us the way! Adding to a nice list of travel shows....surely to the best one yet! :cheesy:
my boyfriend and i are officially attending this year! i have had the pleasure of seeing the band many times over the past few years, but this will be his first mmj experience. :drum:
wondering aloud if we will get some new tunes since a new album is projected for early 2015?

I am definitely hoping for some new songs and different covers. I have a feeling they will debut a few songs. By that point I think the release date would be set and a single will be out.
