There is no prize for the winner, I just want to talk about OBH.
(MMJ first set)
Circuital
One Big Holiday. Gettin' it out of the way this time (not that I'm a hater or anything), but since they closed with it this year, I'm wagering they open with it next year.
'Death is the easy way' followed by poisoned yellow jell-O shots
The dark
(hat tip to Scosby - tweet away bro)
I agree with gluv.....One Big Holiday
I don't think they will open with OBH. I'll going with Lowdown, even though that's probably wrong!
Dancefloors!
Maybe since they haven't had any shows in ages At Dawn would be the most fitting.
I'd love a Rollin Back. Would be very fitting.
I'll guess Wordless.

That's exactly what I prefer! But I still predict OBH to open. I saw them open one or two shows in 2010 with OBH, and it was really cool.
I think it will be a cover with special guest The War on Drugs, doing:

While I think it'll be something from TTF (My Money is on Heartbreakin Man) this is the right answer.

I'm gonna have to go with The Way That He Sings :cheesy: :cheesy:

Rolling Back
The Dark...or At Dawn...or Rollin' Back...if not one of those, something more mainstream(Circ, Anytime, Mags)...personally i agree with Sara and want Dancefloors or something super-crazy like Into the Woods...it makes my head almost explode when I think about it so I haven't been too much lately...It's gonna be amazing though as long as the extra people who helped sell it out are actually really big fans who have been around the music for a while(not necessarily around here bc they do have a bunch of hardcore fans who have no clue what the forum is), I just hope it's not the type of people who think I'm Amazed is a great song and don't know but about 5-10 beyond that(sorry, I had to) If they play Just B-Cuz I Do at some point, then hearing that one will be worth the whole trip for me...true story
I'm really excited about all of the possibilities at this thing. The guys will be on top of their game, of that I'm sure. Really hope they do a lot of older and more rare material, even if that means sacrificing a few covers to make room for the older songs. I'll take some old gems that never get played anymore over Careless Whisper, All Night Long, Move on Up, Isn't It a Pity, RocketMan, It Makes No Difference, Carnival Time, there's a few more I can't think of right now but most of you that will agree with me know the ones I'm talking about. IMO any of the R&B based covers need to be thrown out the back window, the others listed that aren't R&B should go too just bc we (most of us anyway) have heard them too many times at this point. I know there are gonna be a lot of new people at this thing that don't know many of the back catalog and stuff prior to ISM (I actually met someone that's going the other day who thought EU was their first album, true story, I can't make this shit up and stuff like that has me a little bit worried) Most of us here have seen all of those songs I listed more than 5-10 times and hopefully they are gonna use a lot of the off time to re-visit some old material and some new covers, or some old ones like Loving Cup, A Quick One, and Cortez the Killer...would love to hear that Flying Burrito Brothers cover Older Guys from Roo 06 again as well.
Oh well, I know for a fact some people will read this and agree with me, some won't, some will look at it and ask themselves how can this guy say anything bad about this band...everything they do is great, he can't be a real fan. If you know me, you know this isn't true, just hoping to make this the best experience it can be...plus I'm at work and bored and all of you bastards are asleep...
P.S. Leave Wordless in the states...and don't forget Pooch and Denise this time
Seth, I personally love your rants. As I still consider myself a newcomer, I look to you and various others for insight. I've built jacket mixes to listen in the car based on songs you all like. For example, I COMPLETELY concur on wanting Just Because. That one gets played loudly in my house regularly to the extent my 6yo and my 2yo know much of the lyrics.
What do you think the odds are they would bust out Going to Acapulco? I love it so much.

Totally agree with you on the covers; they are played out. It's been 8 years since Ba-Ba-Bananas Nanas. There ain't no more money in the banana stand, guys. :drum:
And, if the person who believes EU is the first album squeezes me off the rail, there's going to be trouble!!!
VICTORY DANCE!
On the other hand... The guy that doesnt know anything before EU is probably going to have the time of his freaking life at this thing. Going to hear some older songs hes never heard before and probably fall in love with at least a couple of them. Then he goes back home and digs deeper and you know how this will turn out. In a couple of years he'll be just like the rest of us.... Sitting through hours of im amazed and golden to have a few minutes of they ran or bermuda highway each tour. Until then i just hope he and the other more casual or less experienced fans know how to conduct themselves at a show (not talking or yelling over the quiet parts, paying attention to the music instead of being beligerant and stupid).

I've found (and I've been to much less shows than most on this board) that most of the fan base I've met both old and new are a little more intelligent then the fan bases I've experienced at other scenes. It's very nerdy, but in a good way. That being said, the number of yahoo's in the crowd seem few.

Wouldn't hate You Gotta Have Faith either. Limp Bizkit killed that song (see Matchstick Productions ski movie Soul Sessions & Epic Impressions), but I can only imagine what Jacket would do to that tune.

I hope you are right with the choices you listed, but for some reason think it will be more of the "traditional" opener choice like Victory or Wordless. (Not my personal preference, but just what I think may happen. I'd personally love a Dancefloors with PHJB)

I imagine, like last year, they'll close their third night with One Big Holiday. However, I found OBH as an opener to the three shows I saw in spring of 2010 to be quite epic! They did it on the first 4 stops of that tour, with a Who-esque instrumental intro.
Here's the first night intro, Alabama Theatre, Birmingham...

No doubt, they did it again at MPP in 2010. One of my favorite MMJ shows ever.

sure was! the eminence front intro was so awesome
Listening to the tapes from last year, and reading about peoples' experiences, it seems the vibe is a little more laid back than their usual show demeanor. I dont think they will go with a real solemn opener and will instead opt for a more carefree kind of tune.
So with that, im going to throw a curveball and go Evil Urges. It will be a signal to all to expect the unexpected.
I'm by no means seasoned, but I would expect a pretty upbeat opener. The reason being is having War on Drugs as the opener. They're gonna come out guns a blazin' so I can't imagine Jacket coming out to follow with something slow.
suspicious minds > highly suspicious > suspicious minds
I'm gonna have to agree with Seth on this one, Rollin back, At Dawn, and The Dark in that order to open with. (Maybe a "where to begin")
Although, opening with OBH and getting it outta the way, so ta speak
(not a hater), leaves some mystery for what they'll close with...?
And in agreement with gluvmiller. after War on Drugs, they might come straight out the gates GUNS BLAZING!
Just 3 guys opinions?
Didn't they open night 2 with the dark last year? At Dawn or Rolling back would be cool. I like the idea of opening with OBH, my feet might not touch the ground til the end of that show if the do! They could open and close with OBH, they did play it twice in the T5 shows granted those circumstances were a little different than 3 sets in Mexico.
I don't think they would open with a rarity or cover, so my guess is they open with: evil urges
I'm hoping they come out of the gates hot!
It's About Twilight Now
At Dawn would be bad ass. I'd blow a gasket.
i guess new song
ANYTIME.
I'm going to tweak my original call of OBH to open first night. I still think that's the opener but they won't finish it. They'll then finish it at the end of first set third night. I think that would be a wicked cool sandwich.
How about opening with a cover of Sun Kil Moon's "War On Drugs Suck My Dick."

Gonna be great getting the old gang back together!!! I tried to not think about it for a long time but now I'm getting just over the top excited. Seriously if you would have asked me to describe my own personal heaven 5 years ago, it would have looked a LOT like OBH.
This may have been said, by I am calling Where to Begin! or At Dawn - still will never forget when the band came to Chicago after Jim's fall in 2008 and opened with At Dawn.....
At dawn. Because At Dawn we ride again.
Think they'll go beyond their 2 hours?
Excited to hear all about the show!
I'll go with Dancefloors.
what time does the show start? What's the time zone there?
Sittin here with me and mine.....
eric mayers instagram says they opened with christopher cross ride like the wind.
It was Ride and was the perfect opening song.
The entire show was hands down the best I've ever seen them do. Mind blowing.
Pretty safe to say noone guessed that
Surely they are saving Cortez for the last night.... I mean, the campaign was strong.
Agree with Clarkwork, perfect song. I guessed One Big Holiday just because I thought it would throw people off and get it going (end last year with it, begin this year with it). Now that it is done, I am glad they closed with it, it is fitting. It just sucks when it starts because you know the show is done........"Thank you good night!!!!!"
For those that guessed At Dawn like I did, we were half right! They opened the encore with that one :)
What brilliant guts to open with Ride Like the Wind. It was an incredible start to an insane show. With all the covers they had to learn and all of the guest that they incorporated in the covers, there must have been a ton of rehearsing to get every song to sound so strong and tight.

Incredible that they started with a cover and "Ride like the wind" just happens to be a favorite of mine being that I like Chris Cross.
But that's MMJ - Aways blowin' your mind
"Ride Like The Wind" was a pretty perfect opening song. Following The War On Drugs 80s-influenced set, it flowed perfectly. Add in the smoke and wind and the hair all blowing across the stage, it really set the stage for those 4 days.
I can't wait to listen to the downloads today!!
