would love to take you up on this, but this time it's likely my wife could attend. for the listening party she was out of town and couldn't attend. Best of luck to all!
Donated to KCRW back in 2011 to see the show at Village Studios which was amazing. Hoping as both a Roll Call and KCRW member that I can luck my way into this one as I'd cherish the chance to be there!
Seems like this is the only west coast love we're gonna get for awhile. It's too bad only a handful of people will get to go.

Vespa, if you haven't already booked consider flying into bob hope in Burbank, so much easier! And closer to the venue too. The beer geek in me is thinking Tony's Darts Away pregame.
So, do we know if everyone was everyone notified? Congrats on being able to catch not one but two shows!!!

Thanks! ...now if we could at least get a show announced! I'm thinking they may be part of the ACL lineup which is announced Tuesday. I wouldn't mind. Especially if they play a late night show too.
I will be there! Thanks to my kindhearted buddy
See you there! Can not wait!
Awesomesauce!
so walter, you being a seasoned vet at these kinds of things. do you expect an open bar type event or otherwise?
Not sure what to do expect actually, but considering it stipulated 21+ and the listening party had an open bar, I wouldn't be surprised if this did as well.
Awesome for those who won entrance. Be sure to give a great blow by blow of the event! We live vicariously through this message board!!
I've been to a few KCRW sessions before that they've hosted at Apogee, and they've had free drinks since it's 21+. It was usually 1-2 craft beers from a brewery that was an affiliate or sponsor, and maybe some wine. Not sure about this location but might be something along those lines.
Excited for the show on Thursday!
my buddy from San Diego won passes so if you see a guy who could be doppelganger for Stan Rizzo from Mad Men yelling "Cobra!" it's probably him. Can't wait to watch the stream (or should we be calling it a "Waterfall"?).

I couldn't get an affordable flight into Burbank, so I'm flying in to LAX. Boo.
I'll have Ms. Y as my plus one. Once I get in, over to my sisters place to steal her car, I should be ready to roll by 2p at the very latest. (God, I never fly "day of", and I'm already pacing around worrying about delays).
Anyone making their way from NorCal looking to rideshare?
I'm in Oakland and am weighing my options for transport- would be happy to pitch in for gas if there's an off chance the bay is making its way down.
I'd be grateful and very stoked to be a +1 to anybody who is getting in. Thank You!
So I was lucky enough to get the winner email on Friday and filled out the confirmation page. But I have not heard back with confirmation or instructions for attendance? Has anybody else received their details? Thanks!

Not yet, still waiting here.
Anyone have a plus 1??? I'm in LA and could meet you at the show! Maybe I could slip you some cash or hook you up with an edible of some sort...
If anybody has a +1 I'd be happy to provide $, drinks, edibles, smoke, friendship, whatever works for you.
I was just confirmed yesterday from kcrw's twitter giveaway, so maybe there's still hope.
good luck!
I might have a +1 available for tomorrow so keep your eyes peeled.
Would anyone happen to have a futon/bed/room to snore in LA for tomorrow night?
so for tonight are we thinking most/all of new album and a few oldies?
Yeah. I know they will play the album in full for the main set.
Then I imagine we would get a few classics for an encore, like the rehearsal shows.
though I'm not 100% on this part
The show is slated for 2 hours. The new record clocks in at under 50 minutes.
There is usually an interview with these things.
I might have a +1 if my buddy can't get away from work I'll let you know. Anyone pregaming any where?

THANK YOU for the effort! This show was epic!
Guys....as great of a tour this will be and as much as Jim DOESN'T have to be flying around and putting on a Jagger type show, SOMETHING is wrong. ..I think Jims on painkillers or something. ..and fuck I probably would need them too after years and years of touring...maybe he shouldn't have toured so much behind his solo record or the Dylan / Wilco tour. im so excited for all this Jacket activity its just not hard to tell something isn't right with Jim and you can see some hesitant , concerned looks at different points in the show from the other guys...I really don't know whats going on but I imagine that big Gibson isnt helping his back much either. SIT IF YOU NEED TO JIM
Last night was not a jacket show (I did have a blast though). It was a webcast of a performance of their new album on national public radio. Let's not jump to conclusions. They have always taken their surroundings and the moment to heart and performed accordingly. Let's see what Athens...and beyond, has in store. Just a couple months back he was in full force in Mexico,
I got to see the show just a few rows back and there were some great moments. The crowd was totally silent during the picking part of Get the Point. Pretty unusual these days. The backup vocals/harmonies were great, they added a lot to these songs more than I have ever noticed on their others. And the drum and bass combo was thick and heavy. When they played Spring it sounded so good, I just cannot get it loud enough on the stereo without distorting. Hoping to hear that one extended in the upcoming shows. Down on the Bottom had a sweet bluesy groove.

Agreed. Compare the TV performances with this one with an attentive crowd and then the live experience we/they know and love. They know their surroundings and deliver it accordingly every time.

Well, now im scared..
It all makes too much sense. He looks detached, for sure. He didnt look that way at obh. Then again looking back he wasnt super active then either. This is different though. I could say up and down how much i would understand if he postponed the tour or even cancelled it. We all could. But it wouldnt matter. Hes gonna do what hes gonna do and that is what makes him great. Yes im Stan Smith and i know his soul. Im just sayin.
I dont know.. I know they play to their surroundings. 2012: almost every other outdoor show i went to they were gettin pretty goofy on stage and jokin around but red rocks? Super serious. On their game from start to finish seemingly out of respect for the venue (and the live recording for axis tv).
But man.. This depresses me. Hope you're okay, Jim.
Its funny, at bridge school jim and neil had a major jam moment together and in the middle of it neil ended up dropping his guitar in what looked kind of like a senior moment and everyone looked kind of concerned for a brief time.. And i thought to myself "at least jim has many many years of good health ahead of him...and a long time before something like this happens"
Well, here we are.
Okay but how did he seem when he was talking about the new songs? Was he smiling? Was there an underlying sense of frustration? Detachment? Or was it vintage jim talk? Thats key.

For the record, im only 95% serious.
The show was great, they are still working on playing these songs live since they just gave birth to the album. I got the sense when looking to each other during the songs it was for cues. The stage was small and didn't beg for a lot of movement, much like the Village studio's show for Circuital. Very powerful and emotional album front to back and can't wait to hear how it's mixed in with everything come next Friday! I went to the signing at Amoeba as well. The guys were gracious per usual. Jim happened to come over while I was looking through some records and threw me by suprise. I stumbled out some thank yous for the show but really wanted to give thanks for the relentless requests, tours, time away from the ones they love, the toll it all takes physically and emotionally. It means so much to us and is never in vain. I do hope he takes care of his back and self first. When they were singing the new album everyone but Jim was sitting down. I am sure he is dealing with some back pain. I just watched Anders Osborne play guitar by leaning it on a table, his next show he had his guitar strapped to a stick to help deal with recent back pain. It's easy to forget how physically taxing it can all be. That being said "Rock on" and full reports from Athens you lucky Bastards
I stood on the rail in front of jim for this show. Yes, he looked like he was on painkillers but let's slow the boat here. He is clearly having back issues so he is most likely trying to find the best way to play 80+ shows. Some of the posts here read like he is abusing, which I dont think is the case
He played masterfully and as some have said it wasn't a "show" it was a live broadcast.
I have no doubt this conversation will be squashed very quickly. Long road ahead, lots of shows, gotta keep the gas in that tank. He may not be as nimble as past days but he is fine
Big tour coming up. They are going to KILL it. 100%
I agree they'll have an amazing tour but at what price? If his backs fucking with him.he needs to cancel half the dates or something. ..I dunno this is a sticky situation cause now its pretty certain hes taking something that by the way Gardenparty is one of the most addicting substances out there no matter who you are and especially with back pain
I'm not the kinda fan who wants their idols on drugs and addicted and in hellish torment for my dramatic sake ..I simply don't wanna slippery dangerous slope coming on the heels of this tour which WILL FUCKING HAPPEN if proper care ISN'T received

I'm trying ....Just the idea of Jacket ending , any other way than those 5 guys not wanting to do it anymore, would be very tough.
Lets do all breathe, send Jim good will and great katkarma vibes and await actual confirmation of something amiss. But I find it odd on this forum when band members and drugs are talked about its suddenly making people fidget and get scared....and then.delete a topic. People including me need to not assume things but when theres evidence a fan is seeing at a show whats so wrong about that being posted?

A better indication of how his back is feeling, basically. I'm not going to jump to conclusions about substance use or abuse, though. He's a smart guy with lots of smart people around him, I'm sure they are making good decisions with that but either way it's none of my business. The only reason I even talk about the back issue is out of concern... i would just feel guilty going to a show and watching him have to labor through it for the sake of the audience.
That being, said... As someone who has been to many, many Jacket shows (30+), and watched countless videos online (like many of you), I think it will be pretty obvious whether or not something is different with Jim and I don't think it matters that it's only the first couple of shows. These are full on jacket shows coming up, no opener even, and i've never been to one in which Jim looked the way he did in some of his recent performances.
For now, though, i'll shut it down (talking about this). I realize it's probably raining on some otherwise happy parades and we've all been looking forward to this tour for quite some time. I'm going to head down to Athens in full belief that all will be well in Jim and Jacket land.

I think the real amateurs are the people ignoring reality staring them right in the face. ..but as long as Jim gives you his three hour shows you're just fine huh? Lets all just hide reality and get back to getting the shit the bands supposed to give us right?
Anyway im done saying anything about this again as most people on here seem unable to take it...when said subject has only talked about his back about his pain about the grueling tours in what? Only EVERY interview. ..........I don't think we're speculating.
Im done for now . But what a show...Spring could be a second song after Believe in a set list I believe big time...its got that elevation live...

A lot of us saw jim in prime form 3 months ago. Perhaps it was just a bad night? I see no reason to predict the sky is falling at this point.

No one is ignoring anything, or wants to see Jim or anyone in pain. What most of us are doing is waiting to see how this plays out, at least for the first few weeks of the tour.
What we aren't doing is speculating how it will play out based on written articles or album shows without giving the actual tour a chance to play out. We're especially not speculating on drug use, and their effects. There's no need to speculate on that regardless of what anyone thinks someone might be doing. Doesn't matter to me if we're talking about Jim, or the janitor. That's pretty low,IMO, and I don't give a fuck if someone thinks they're an expert of some sort on whatever drug is speculated.
This place always seemed to have class. How about we try,and keep it that way?
I REALLY REALLY really really want (for anyone On here or in the band itself ) nothing but great happiness health love and great times but when Jims said this quite a ton you can't blame fans as big as you are for getting a little freaked.
Its such a new thing to me to see a blah blah Jim James on stage instead of the one whos smiling and enjoying himself. If you've been listening to MMJ since 2004 at least (the year I entered the MMJ fanboat) you are used to certain things like him not saying a word for half the show etc. But this is a very very new development . I think people on here studying his every movement every frown looking for the signs of this or that, is a little over the top. Bottom line: we're all Jacket fans. We all love this band more than any other band and don't want any of it to end. But this could be a real crossroads for the guys and preparing yourself for that is OK
Speculating on drug use by myself or others as much as it was out of concern rather than Shittalking or dramahumping , WAS WRONG and Was jumping the gun . Ive just seen too many times where people pushing through pain because of painkiller usage makes their injuries even more debilitating. Just wanting him to take care of himself. Everyone on here do the same
But as Ericm said wisely : let's see how this goes down
I hope someday we get every album played live in a vinyl box
Id love if they did that. I Think a Evil Urges / Circuital era 2008-2012 OKONOKOS II would be amazing plus the Terminal 5 shows to get the albums in order . I love both experiences, and MMJ are the best ever at segues from one song to the next. Theyve transitioned from songs I never thought could be played one after the other
did anybody listen to this today?
how did it come across on the recording?
yeah i heard he's on meth and heroin and crack these days, in fact the whole band is now, its all good though
oh and some bath salts and krokodil, again all good
Now that KCRW has posted the entire show, I was able to re-rip with intact audio. I'm not sure how long they keep their shows up, so I re-uploaded the new rip to Youtube for posterity's sake. 720p this time, too.

Is this the 720p version? Thanks so much for your work. It's awesome.

Thank you thank you!
I just loved it!! I haven't seen the band in so long and the fact that there haven't been new songs in a long time, was really exciting. I was in a great spot to boogie down too with the crew!
Really absorbing the new songs now but so far the standouts are The Waterfall, Big Decisions, Get the Point, Tropics, Only Memories Remain and Spring and Compound. I dig all the songs though, and the vibe of the album. Glad they recorded on the beach.
It's going to be really fun seeing the full tour, and I hope they jam out some of these songs and improv. Oh and the harmonies really stood out as well as the pedal steel and drums. Some of the lyrics really hit hard.
I'm already looking forward to the next album :)
