Will there be soundcheck parties this tour?
TBD, but I think so
Believe, BELIEVE, BELIEEEEEEEEVE! Nobody knows for sure.
The Vegas weekend had a Friday night soundcheck party listed as part of the VIP Travel Package. Roll Call access or opportunity to buy VIP tix without the hotel package were not mentioned. Have any other shows offered soundchecks or VIPs?
I bought GA tickets for the weekend at but could not part with an extra $500 for the VIP. The tickets prices seem so reasonable compared to other acts. I can't wait to see the Brooklyn Bowl venue!

Well played! :drum:
check your emails RCers.
Anyone know if you can +1 the soundcheck parties? My co-pilot for the trip is not a RCer.
a little shocked and very disappointed not to see Red Rocks make the list. i thought it all ran fairly smooth last time out.
I just spoke to a representative at Wonderful Union. I asked if it was possible for me to purchase an additional VIP Pass for a friend who is not a RC member. The answer was "Yes, that is fine."
I'm assuming that ther existence of a Soundcheck-ticket-sans-merch option means that there ain't no +1s for these.

thanks Woldie, figured it wasn't likely. Do you have to stay inside the venue post Soundcheck or can you go back to lot to pregame?
You cannot bring a +1 for free, but I did conform with Wonderful Union that you can purchase a ticket for a non-RC member. This is how it worked previous years.
Love that the posters included with the soundcheck will be show specific, according to the email.

Per WU, in/out privileges are to be determined by the venue. Venues should be contacted directly to ascertain in/out policies for these parties.
Thanks for asking what we were all wondering. Way to go WU for being available and responsive. Too bad they didn't include additional info in that email. A lot of people who don't check here are going to be contacting them with the same questions over and over.

They told me they don't know the ticket limit. Did they tell you there's definitely a +1? For one show we have a group of 4 and only one roll call member...
None in Chicago!

According to WU, there are definitely NOT +1 entries for these. Each person entering must have a Soundcheck Party ticket.

i think i started this miscommunication with "+1". I definitely figured I would need to pay for a 2nd person, but maybe used that improperly. I was hoping that I could buy 2 passes for myself (RCer) and a buddy (non RCer).
I bought 4 tickets with my Roll Call membership. I would hope I could at least buy 4 sound check tickets to match my 4 concert tickets.
Wonderful Union just told me over chat that they won't know the ticket limit until they go on sale tomorrow.
Good info in this thread, thanks all for passing on your WU info.
Couple questions I haven't been able to get from here or WU yet.... when will we know what time the sound check party is supposed to start (probably show-specific)... all it says is 'afternoon'.
For those getting early entry for the concert itself (not the soundcheck), if the venue doesn't allow you to just stay inside after sound check, and make you re-enter for the show.... I'm concerned that sound check might not be over until the line starts to form for early-entry to the show.... thus making one choose between going to sound check vs. getting in line to assure a good spot for early entry.
Any info/past experiences with this?
In the past, soundcheck party ticket limit was 4. I doubt attending a soundcheck will hurt your position significantly for early entry. If it does, its worth it! I'd take a 4-song soundcheck and signed poster over being first to the rail any day!
If I recall, there was only 1 soundcheck package last tour. Should be interesting to see how the sale is handled. I'd personally like 4 soundcheck tickets, 2 with and 2 without posters.
What time during the day and how long do the parties typically last? I'd love to break away from work to attend - I just want to know some details.
Here's a post from the great ericm about the LA soundcheck party in 2011. Expect times and re-entry policy to vary, based on venue, doors, etc.

Cool, good thoughts, thanks! Never been to a soundcheck before but I like your reasoning above. I don't even care if I'm 'first person' to the rail - I'm not picky, I just want to be ON the rail, if possible. With the Pittsburgh show being indoors and a relatively small venue, I have no idea how many early entry people to expect! I suppose even if sound check prevents me from getting in line for early entry soon enough to get on the rail, it's still early entry and I'd probably only be one or two rows of people back.....
Red Rocks, come on Red Rocks!
I've only been to two, one of them being forecaatle which was different from the rest, but iirc for the other, we were able to stay inside the venue after the Soundcheck.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've been to 3 (SF, RR 2012, Berkeley) and we were not allowed to stay in the venue after soundcheck.
In SF, they were disorganized and we actually would have lost our place in line, but we convinced them that wouldn't be fair so they created another line. It was great. :)
Yeah, we had to leave at Red Rocks and I noticed at Alpharetta they left as well. After having done two sound checks, I'm not interested in doing more unless it's something like at Forecastle. That was really cool. Otherwise, you are mostly paying to get a poster without waiting in line. You can hear the sound check just fine in line. Unless it's an indoor venue, but some of those are very hearable too. Athens gave us a sweet sound check with a fun line party.

Yeah but some of those stories Jim tells can't be beat! The one at the Gibson with him talking about tripping while riding a ride, and the Philly Mann one with the tennis "rink" story were classics!
We also had one of those "that guy" guys in SF correcting Jim's pronunciation during a story which was hilarious. Especially since he couldn't tell Jim was doing it on purpose. It was Abbott and Costello esque.
I have to say out of all the ones I went to, I think only a couple of songs were actually played later that night in the set, so it was pretty cool getting to see a couple of additional tunes in a laid back setting.
As a poster colector these are totally worth it to me, even with the five buck increase from the last ones.
To me, the biggest value in the soundcheck parties is the potential for them to play a real deep cut. As I recall, that last Red Rocks soundcheck was very special that way:
1. If All Else Fails
2. Just One Thing
3. Picture of You
(HOLY HELL!!)
I was really banking on Sound check at Red Rocks this year. but no dice. it seems for now!
silly question, but i assume you need an actual ticket to the show to be able to gain access to the soundcheck parties. i have tickets to the milwaukee shows. my 6 year old son is a little too young to make it through the show, but i was hoping i could just purchase an extra soundcheck ticket for him for sunday night. he could enjoy a few tunes and see the band etc etc....this probably won't work though right.....i assume you need a concert ticket in hand? thx

I don't remember ever having to show my concert show ticket for the sound checks. They just had our names on a list. The person who purchased the SC's had to show ID, and I think the cc used at purchase. I'm not 100% certain on the cc because it's been a while but I know I never showed my ticket. They either gave us a stick on type decal or wristband to show at SC entry, and we were good to go.
Anyone know if the soundcheck party tickets/poster packages will be actually sold through Ticketmaster? In the email about soundcheck parties sent yesterday, when you click on one of the events, it shows the party/package info, and then at the bottom of that event's page, it has a link to 'external ticket purchase', which brings up Ticketmaster's page for the actual concert. I realize it's before 10AM, so maybe the soundcheck party/package tickets will 'appear on the ticketmaster site once it goes live? Or perhaps the event page on mmj.com will show a link to buy the soundcheck packages through mmj.com/WU.

You need a ticket but they don't check for one (at least in my two experiences at MPP). It will be a risk if he doesn't have a ticket to the show..... it just depends how strict/diligent they are about checking for the actual concert ticket. If you want to be sure he gets in, get a seat and then you should be able to sell it outside before showtime. If they do check for tickets, then they shouldn't scan it. I hear some places let you stay in the venue.
For MPP, all soundcheck ticket buyers were on their list. We didn't get an actual ticket or pass. They walked us in. When it was over we walked out and had plenty of time before doors open to go back to the car/line up for the GA entrance/etc.
PittGuy.... wait until they 10 AM when they update the pages. It will be sold thru WU not TM.
I guess it varies but what time do these soundchecks usually happen? Early afternoon? Late afternoon? Hour or two before showtime?
MPP Soundcheck secured. My only show on this tour so want to make the most.

i shot an email over to WU about it, and here's what they responded with (very quickly, I might add):
"Yes, it looks like the packages with the poster have already sold out. Sometimes limited packages such as these can sell out extraordinarily quickly.
Luckily, there are still packages available without the poster. "
Oh well, the signed part is nice, but not necessary for me. I just hate carrying my poster through the show. I will probably just avoid buying one at the show, and try to acquire one after the show.

Something doesn't add up..... there are still signed posters available for every other show (many of which have way higher demand like MPP). Maybe the band is signing after the Pittsburgh show so there were actually none available. Or the poster isn't ready yet.
Agreed. Something doesn't add up. There's no way they actually sold out of those posters in less than 30 seconds...

scroll a tiny bit and click "OK." make sure you go all the way thru the steps until you get a confirmation number. keep going after it says "success"
I was able to buy two VIP with poster tickets for Minneapolis. Not a single hangup with WU's system. The stars must be in perfect alignment for there to be zero issues the WU purchase process.
Minneapolis Soundcheck secured. I attended the Somerset Soundcheck in 2012, opened with Strangulation...mind blowing. I'm wondering if it's still a +1 event? I haven't seen that info anywhere.
figured it out....bonehead!!! cost me the poster. eff!!!

See you there. If two people need admittance, you need to have two concert tickets and two VIP tickets.
My next question is when does Will Call open for the individual venues? If the soundcheck is in the middle of the afternoon, my guess is that will call isn't open yet, meaning there's no way to have tickets in hand.
Damn. I bought 1 VIP ticket thinking it was still +1. That sucks. oh well still will be a great experience.

I got a ticket with poster for PITT!!
I'm guessing it might also have to do with how many posters are made for each show. That number varies widely night to night, for reasons I don't understand. But if, say, they only made 100 of the Pitt poster, they might only allow 25 for sound check, but if they make 350 for another venue, that's a lot more.
can anyone guestimate about when the soundcheck parties will be for the NOLA show? I know its a shot in the dark, but I'm just wondering if I need to rearrange my work schedule that day. I'm planned on being done at 2:00 and I'm 2.5 hours away
i feel like most of the ones i've been to were around 4:00.

I think you should have no problem getting to the soundcheck. Show starts at 7 so i'm guessing they should check anywhere from 4-6pm. I know at Somerset they let us in about an hour before the actual show started, but then had to re-form a line to get in for GA.
See you there!

During the order process, they refer to delivery of the soundcheck party tickets as "will call". Experience suggests you simply have the order receipt printout and an ID ready and they'll check you in from a list on clipboard. That's what they did for most of the soundcheck parties I've participated in - MPP, Mann, and Forecastle in 2012.

For sure. The venue is only 15-20 minutes from the airport. Allow some extra time for parking, but it should not be a problem. Mpls is a small "big" city (400,000) and pretty easy to navigate.
