I loved the physical set for the Circuital era (big eye and psychedelic doors). Anyone have any idea if we can expect a new look for The Waterfall shows? So far it looks like just lights...
Yeah, both those lights are pretty fucking awesome. I'm going to say that at this point unless they ordered the stage set from the same place who did the puzzle for the box set the answer is that it's just going to be lights.
lots of lights and smoke - looked great in Boston - trippy stuff during Waterfall and Spring
I would expect very different set ups for the indoor shows of their own doing as compared to fest set ups.
I figured they would have various Waterfall "visualizers" like the videos on YouTube.
and Patrick's drum head is now a waterfall similar to the album cover - also lit up and very cool looking. I'm an owl traditionalist, but like this change (for now)
I agree with Mr. White. I wasn't at Boston Calling, but after seeing the photos and having been at the Athens and Knoxville shows, you can tell the lighting is set up so they can scale it to different size places. Given less space at the GA Theater there appeared to be less lighting (still awesome), especially compared to the TN Theater where they used all the space of that long stage. That show solidified for me that they don't need backdrop or any other accoutrements to add to the show. The performance mixed with some stellar lighting work blended to make those two shows some of my most profound live MMJ experiences. Then seeing the Boston Calling photos, I got pretty excited for the Bonnaroo show as it appears they just went bigger and better for the larger stage.
And like millerjustin said, I like the dedicated light illuminating Patrick's bass drum.
The strange thing about Boston Calling was there was a screen that was used by most of the other bands for visualizations so I was pretty surprised the Waterfall images never showed up.
I'll be shocked if they don't have a totally new production when the tour really starts next week. Their last three tours have all gotten articles in lighting trade magazines and what they've shown so far (while still cool) is kinda average.
Sheets, I'm still tripping from the crazy lights during Steam Engine that became inhabited by the Spirit of Jim's jacket. These lights are fucking awesome.
Oh don't misunderstand me, the lighting was fine, especially Steam Engine. All I'm saying is in the past they'd have a whole new production for a new tour, and these lights aren't new. I know that renting lights is super expensive, and I wouldn't be surprised if they rented a lighting package for these 2 small shows and 2 festivals that were so far ahead of the real tour starting.

Yep, that makes too much sense. Also, they talked about it in an interview and it seemed that something exciting was in the works.

Told ya.
Yeaaahhhhh buddy!
A part of me is bummed to not see any prop like, space creating stuff going on, but I'm sure this set up is thoughtful and synchronistic and insane.
