I was kind of hoping for NYE in NYC, can't imagine that will happen now with these NYC dates. And no Boston obviously too, which I'm fine with. Boston just wasn't that fun of a city to be in on NYE. Would love SF but that's not happening either with them doing a 3-nighter in October. My money is on Louisville!
I tend to agree Louisville makes the most sense
NYE at The YUM!
Sounds good to me!
I wish they'd just put all their damn cards on the table!! No way I'd commit to NYC if a Louisville NYE was a possibility!
A Louisville NYE would be killer. I'm all for that.
Maybe they will announce Louisville NYE with the second batch of NYC shows? They announced their Nashville show on the day they played Roo this year, so maybe the day of Forecastle we'll get some more Louisville news??
but The Palace would be so much better

Only if they take out the seats and make the entire Orch Section GA - the port Chester vibe was perfect but Yum center with GA floor was also great!!

Oh no question I'd rather see them there but figured the demand for a NYE show would be too big for the Palace. Either way, I'll be doing my best to be wherever they play.
Boston NYE 2K12 would have been much better if it wasn't at the Agganis.
So....NYE speculation...how certain is everyone that there will be a NYE show? Has there been leaked info or rumors or are we just hoping? With the cancellation of OBH3 for next year, I would really love to try and travel for a NYE show.
I was at the NYE 08 show at MSG and it to this day was one of the best nights ever. So awesome. I would LOVE a Philly NYE show but venues big enough yet not crappy (ie Wells Fargo) are few and far between there. Chicago would be sweet, albeit cold....
I doubt the seats could be taken out of the floor of The Palace but I believe the pit is folding chairs. there could be a small GA pit at The Palace.
Would absolutely love a hometown NYE show. Not likely I will travel that weekend.
all pure speculation at this point, I have heard no rumors whatsoever. L'ville just seemed like a logical spot for it to happen, if it were to happen at all this year.
I'm from Louisville, but can we make the NYE show in Miami or Cabo or anywhere warm?
i'd be all for that if someone wanted to pay my travel and lodging expenses.
anyway, i'm pretty sure the yum center is adequately heated in the winter.
I've only driven through Louisville without stopping, and need an excuse to come check out the city. Let's do this.
From what I'm told NYE is 100% not happening this year, unfortunately
bummer.
If they were to do a NYE show(s) this year, when could we expect it to be announced? September-October?
from looking at my old emails...
Boston NYE=announced 9/10
MSG NYE=announced 6/12
MSG Fillmore=can't seem to pinpoint the exact date, but looks like it was announced in early October.
That said, most chatter points toward no NYE this year.
No NYE this year, no OBH next year

Just now on the Louisville news they said a big show has been booked for New Years Eve at the Yum Center. It said the show would start at 10 with the main act coming on at midnight.
I am thinking it's some big pop star if they are talking about it on the news, but you never know! Especially since most people wouldn't be excited about a late show like that, so maybe??
wishful thinking.

Wax Fang at 10
Houndmouth at 11
MMJ at Midnight!! :)
horses definitely can't jam like MMJ can and neither can Muhammad Ali!

Here's an excerpt from the beginning of this bizjournals.com article, "KFC Yum! Center plans a big New Year's Eve bash" http://www.bizjournals.com/louisville/news/2015/09/14/kfc-yum-center-plans-a-big-new-years-eve-bash.html
"Officials with the KFC Yum! Center hope to make Main Street at Second Street the place to be on New Year's Eve. Dennis Petrullo, general manager of the Yum Center, said he had worked to clear that date on the calendar in the upcoming years and will make a major announcement later this month on a large-scale New Year's Eve Bash. Petrullo was tight-lipped on details, but he told the Louisville Arena Authority during its bimonthly meeting Monday morning that the event will be significant and could be a huge annual draw for Louisville. He said the show will feature multiple artists and likely would start around 10 p.m. with a headliner on stage to welcome the New Year at midnight. The arena authority oversees the operations and finances of the Yum Center. Petrullo said center officials would place enhanced lighting outside the facility to create a celebratory atmosphere. Larry Hayes, chairman of the Arena Authority, said the New Year's Eve event is going to be a "big deal." He wants the Yum Center to start creating its own events on top of the concerts, basketball games and other shows held during the year. Hayes said these events could be locally driven and become draws that play up the unique qualities of Louisville."
Edit: I bold printed that part at the end. Who else in the whole wide world is more of a "local" draw with "unique qualities of Louisville" than My Morning Jacket!?! I mean, I guess they could get some Kentucky Derby horses to put on a concert, but I don't think horses can jam quite like MMJ can!
I also saw this news on the morning WDRB 41 broadcast.
If MMJ NYE at the yum yum goes down, I might have to make that happen. Thanks for the the heads up MR. White.

Woohoo!
I'm sold!!!! (Mainly because this would be amazing and I oh-so-badly want to believe it)
What else could it be -- are there any other beloved local entertainers who could possibly headline? Is there some award-winning Louisville-based trapeze act I don't know about?
Booking a room at the Galt now...
Jeez I'm having a hard time trying not to get my hopes up now.

yep, i was at peace with no more MMJ until (hopefully) next spring/summer, but now i'll be checking this thread hourly. i hope it's either confirmed or shot down quickly, can't stand the suspense.
Unless one of the band members directly confirms or denies, I'm thinking we'll be in the dark for a while. If the announcement was delayed until October (in line with when some other NYEs were announced) that would satisfy a potential radius clause with Forecastle -- that I'm completely making up -- in which acts must not play or announce shows in a specified radius within three months of a major headlining spot.
I have no certain knowledge of this, but I don't think radius clauses apply to a period of time after an event has already occurred.
and on the news they said the announcement would come later this month!
not happening guys - sorry

I wouldn't take this as an absolute though I do tend to agree its unlikely. Tom knows how fast it would spread if he left any room for people to speculate. It's been a pretty full year and they have another big year next year so not surprised they want to take the holidays off. Good for them honestly.

Radius clauses differ in every case, but they can definitely prohibit a band from playing an area after a festival has occurred as well. A common clause from AC Entertainment (Forecastle/Roo) will just prohibit the announcing of a show until the festival has passed -- why it's so common to see bands announce local headlining dates after a festival. See: MMJ announcing a Nashville date just before taking the stage at Roo.
Having said that, I have absolutely no knowledge of MMJ's particular radius clause with AC Entertainment/if there even was one/why it would affect this likely-non existent NYE show.
but a show at The Yum Center would still have them Home for the Holidays...
until the Yum Center announces who's playing this big new years show I will hold out hope!
....and I mean, the question was worded as a "NYE runnnnn"
Hard to call one show a run?
Or maybe we're all desperate Jacket junkies?

Yeah, that's what I thought as well. Similar to PC - Boston. That I would call a run. A one off NYE show, not so much.

You know it Crispy, I'm in for room share.
Yeah, i mean that event didnt sound like something geared towards an mmj crowd. Probably more so the pop audience.
The guy that asked Tom about nye is sort of a knuckle head. The fact that Tom responded at all to that was pretty cool. If he says no, there is absolutely no way it is happening. If he says nothing you can speculate. But to have Tom say no and then basically say "nuh uh" in response.....lame.

Hey Louisville locals, was anything ever announced for NYE?
It's fucking Kid Rock........
What a disappointment
LAME!
at least I can stay in now on NYE and not deal with all the commotion.
I was going to cancel my room at the Galt if it wasn't MMJ playing on NYE.
But KID ROCK?!?!?!
HOW CAN I MISS THIS?!?!
A local NEWS station said they had an announcement for NYE, why would anyone expect anything other than a ticket-selling pop star?
Kid Rock puts on a very entertaining show... if you are an idiot.
He plays the same exact set every single show, every step he takes on stage is rehearsed, and he has built-in commercials for Chevy and Jim Beam throughout the whole thing.
Not to mention the crowd he attracts...

Still nothing booked in the Palace for NYE. I can still dream of a Louisville Palace run despite all evidence to the contrary.

I like where your head is at... Probably too late to announce anything for NYE now but I don't think it's unrealistic to hope for a Palace run in early 2016! If they play ANY shows in 2016, at least one has to be in Louisville, right???
