I'd like to start a support group for those if us going through withdrawal right about now at the thought of not getting packed up and ready to go to some far away place and melt all our troubles away listening to some outstanding music with some outstanding people....
Is it just me, or is anyone else dying a slow death inside on not having OBH III this year? After 2 years the wife and I were just getting "used to" the late Jan early Feb get away and its killing me.
One day at a time. Hang in there.
my bank account is very happy there is no OBH3 this year. i'll be ready for 2017.
I feel your pain...I just REALLY hope OBH 2017 happens...please please please...! :drum:
I know I'm in the minority, but I'm rooting for Dominican 2000+17 !!!

Out of curiosity, why?
I thought the Hard Rock Riviera Maya was a pretty exceptional place for OBH. It's located centrally for US fans - the DR would make the trip from the west coast a whole day thing both ways, which would be a bit rough. Also, the concert venue is concrete floor as opposed to sand. Standing on sand for a three - four plus hours a night four nights in a row would take it toll on my aging bones. I've read reviews of the shows down in DR and the beach stage setup was mentioned a few times in the reviews I read - it wasn't good. Plus imagine all the trash that would get left on the beach each night - that'd be ugly.
I do understand for those of you who've went to both (I only went to OBH2) might be getting tired of the Hard Rock. It is a bummer there isn't a real beach there, and I thought the pools could've been warmer last year. But overall, I thought the place was setup really well for hosting an event like OBH. I can't wait to go back!
I was at both and trust me it wouldnt break my heart to go back, but for me its as much about a venue change as anything. Im looking at it as a great chance to both see a band I love as well as see different places and I dont see myself going to the Dominican without there being an MMJ type event attached to the occasion.
Moreover, while I have heard the negative comments as well, I kinda like the idea of seeing the band play right on the beach. If it happens I may feel differently, but in my minds eye I like though thought of dancing my ass of on the shores of the ocean while they melt my brain....
I hear you. Either way, I'll do all that I can to go again. It was epic!
Curious what other people think about moving OBH? Anyone?

my only concern is the amount of money involved, both airfare and resort. if the cost is close to the same, no problem. if it's substantially more.....problem.

I wholeheartedly agree with this! I babysat before and after work for the entire summer before OBH to help pay my way down there, and it was a struggle financially but well worth it! If the price goes up due to a venue change I would have a difficult time affording it....so as long as costs stay reasonable I don't care where it is!!
I liked everything about the Hard Rock except the food and the fact that there was not a real beach.
I would never pay that money again to go to the tropics without access to the beach. Once yes. If I shell out a few grand to go to the Caribbean again, the beach takes precedence even over a 3 night MMJ run. Now if I could just go to the shows at Hard Rock and stay elsewhere? Hell Yes! Great location. Great concert set up. Otherwise it is not even Mexico, it is a Disneyland with alcohol.
no beach access would make my OBH3 sales pitch to the wife just a bit harder.

It's a short, fairly inexpensive cab ride to a very nice beach that also has great snorkeling. We rented a car for OBH2 and would do that again to check out a different beach in the area. It was nice to drive around and see another town and area to mix in with lounging by the resort pools.

ok, I can work with that. Also, if the bookers/band could get The Avett Brothers or Father John Misty to be there, that will make my case that much stronger.
i wish theyd get someone like warren haynes down there to play with em

To each their own (and no offense), but that sounds awful. So many better options. Just one man's opinion obviously.
I feel like this forum is split between loving mmjs "jammyness" and then hating it.
Not that anyone cares, but I happen to love all types of rock (although my favorite is psychedlic rock [emoji13]), from their earliest stuff, to their newer jammy(er) live shows. From the Dead to MMJ Its all incredible to me

I take it you dont like jam music then? Keep in mind Gov't Mule and Jim hve a song together. Thats cool though if you dont...
considering my name on here is a mix between my first name, and a phish song...I'm pro-jammy. I've seen many mule shows dating back to the late 90s, Warren is like nails on a chalkboard to me.
Mule usually does their own beach-y fest in Jamaica, I don't see them being second card to MMJ. Wouldn't be deal breaker at all, just can think of so many better options (again, personal opinion of one person).

I'm happy to help. I'll see what I can do about those other acts when they return my calls......kidding of course (Lest anyone think I was serious......I can't find those emojis to add to denote a joke).
Also hoping for a destination change. Don't get me wrong - Mexico was cool, but the man made lagoons wer a huge turn off. I have been to the DR and it is absolutely breath-taking. As long as we get an OBHIII I'm all for it, but would love a DR/Jamaica announcement.
I could, however, see the standing in the sand thing get kind of exhausting and brutal, but it can't be any worse than festival heat waves I've attended in the past.
The big issue for me, other than standing on the beach (although I love The Cure reference there ) is the flight time to the DR from the west coast. LAX to Cancun can be done on the first day of OBH without missing out on anything. LAX to DR is an 8+ hour flight, which would mean two days of vacation specifically for travel. I agree that the lack of beach at the Hard Rock Riviera Maya is a big bummer, but I think the central location (for the US at least) is a huge plus. Also, nice beaches are just a short cab ride away from the Hard Rock.
OBH III can be done on a beach and in Mexico, if the band and promoters choose...

WOW....now that in my opinion is an upgrade over the Hard Rock....has anyone seen reviews on how it all came off?
After going to the first 2 OBH, i would be down for a venue change. The hard rock is nice enough, but the food isn't great and a beach would be nice. I know they are a short cab ride away, but it would be pretty nice to walk to the surf. That said I will probably go wherever they play as it's all about the music! That Phish set up looks pretty sweet to me, but I'd prefer to listen to other rock bands and not the likes of Warren Haynes (although I can't imagine he would play 2nd bill to MMJ). I really liked last years lineup!

A good friend of mine went. He had a blast and thought the shows were fantastic. Beautiful resort, beach, drinks easily obtainable constantly, cool and very dedicated fans, etc. He said the food was fair to decent nothing great. He stayed at the resort where Phish played. The concert was in a special like fenced off area that required special wristbands. People from other resorts were able to get to the shows via bus not hang out at the resort. They had to leave after the shows and couldn't hang out during the day which made it tougher to hang out with friends he made. I think some people at his resort didn't have concert wristbands.

One would assume Phish had a larger audience, hence the additional hotels needed. Saying that, there have also been rock and country destination concerts the last couple of years north of Riviera Maya. There has to be an hotel with a private, REAL, beach, large enough to accommodate 2,500 people and small enough that MMJ could have the place to themselves. The promoters already know what they are planning for OBH III, we just need them to announce it.

I'm down with whatever, just hurry up and announce it already.....I'd like to at least see a hint before June.
I started driving for Uber this month with the sole purpose of paying for OBHIII. I can't wait for the announcement so I know how much I need to make and what post card I need to put on my visor a la Jamie Foxx in Collateral.

Since they just announced OBHIII for 2017, does anyone remember how much the packages were for I and II?
Cheapest option was ~$1400 pp.
So can we start to speculate what other bands will be there?!?!
I want houndmouth!!
and grace potter.
Shakes are to big, I think, but.....
Houndmound would be awesome. I would love if the other headliner (ie BoH last year) was someone like....Wilco..... :)

Alabama Shakes would be great. Wilco as the other headliner would be so awesome, plus an acoustic show. The National would be great too, and with their new Grateful Dead mega covers compilation that MMJ were involved with coming out, there might be a connection there.
But Wilco, yes. Definitely.
Futurebirds would be the dream opener for me!

They have lagoons that are protected by a jetty. Same water, same sand, just no waves. I actually liked them because we would just float in our tubes and didn't have to worry about spilling our drinks.

Haven't been lucky enough to catch a solo Jeff Tweedy show. That would be really cool.
Ray LaMontagne seems like a logical choice.
IMO I don't think you can do better than Dr. Dog, Band of Horses, War on Drugs, and PHJB.

Seriously tho...it was such an amazing line up. Every band that took that stage had us all rocking. perfect vibes!
Does anyone remember if Roll Call members got an early signup last time? I remember being able to put a down payment to reserve a room within days of the announcement in June. I'm hoping for an early bird discount and a Roll Call only access before it goes on sale to everyone.
Last time around for OBH2, OBH1 attendees got first dibs, then Roll Call, then gen pop.
I remember because I first signed up for Roll Call solely for this purpose. The early bird discounts were gone by time it opened up to Roll Call members.
Any ideas or rumors on when we'll be able to make reservations? I feel like it was within a couple days of the announcement last time. I think they also announced the entire lineup with the initial announcement as well. They also announced in June, but they may change a lot of how they're doing it.
So I was checking my spreadsheet, and I made my first installment payment on June 27 for OBHII. So late June is my guess. Maybe a little earlier since they know we're all stark raving maniacs to get this thing on the books!
Hey,
Quick question for ya all, I was just looking at Jackets page for upcoming events and noticed it says 5 days for OBH III. Am I just missing something here? I know I and II had 4 nights of music and the way I interpret the page is it almost is saying there are 5 nights for OBH III.

According to Cloud 9, those that attended both OBH events will get tokens for first tickets, next in line will be those that attended either of the OBHs. I'm thinking Roll Call members will be next in line. The fancy rooms and early bird discount rooms will go quickly I presume. Official announcement coming "late fall or early summer."

Interesting catch - it sure seems like a 5 night event this time, per what listed.
http://www.mmjonebigholiday.com/experience-faq
see below - 4 nights of music as with past years. If I were to guess, official lineup announcement and ticket sales will occur mid-late June. C9 has confirmed token priority for prior attendees per above
