Title: Bicycling and Canoeing: Louisville
Post by: Stevie on May 02, 2016, 04:39 PM
Hey guys, this is probably better suited for a sub forum but i figured it would be pretty tough to get a response there and the shows are right around the corner.

My friend and I are interested in bicycling and canoeing in the greater Louisville area during the week leading up to the shows (have own bikes and canoe so no need for rental).  Can anyone recommend some really nice trails and/or riverways?  Just looking for some real sweet nature

For your bike, lots of people ride in Cherokee Park. winding hilly roads through the park where there's more bikers and walkers than cars. My boyfriend rides his bike there. it's really beautiful back there.

you should check out Butler too if you want to hike. It's very hilly but I think people do ride bikes there. Walking was more than enough for me and I can not imagine riding back there. Skinny trails and very hilly in the parts I've been on but if you're advanced and into riding trails, and have time to spare, this would be a really cool place to go.

it's about an hour from Louisville.

Few others he said to check out for riding are: Floyds Fork and Jefferson Memorial Forest and Bernheim Forest. All closer places you could check out too.

For canoeing: Floyds Fork, Elkhorn Creek in Frankfort, Blue River in Indiana and Green River near Mammoth Cave.

Have fun! Hope that helps!
We have no shortage of real sweet nature! :)

Thank you so much for the response!  I know we have the internet now but it really helps to be able to narrow down options.

Thank you again for the advice! Did Floyd's Fork yesterday and then started in Cherokee Park today and just took it as far as we could pedal along the riverside.  What a great couple of days and the music hasn't even started yet.
