Title: Carl in Boston 6/28
Post by: Jbpats on Jun 28, 2016, 09:34 AM
Did anybody else attend this show?
Very intimate venue, maybe 60 people tops in attendance. Nice room, no booze but you could hear a pin drop. There were times I caught myself in a deep very tranquil place, almost like I was asleep with my eyes open.
Show was split between half solo and half with the rest of MMJ. I loved Bo's contributions to the songs. I highly recommend checking him out if he is coming to your town.

I only knew a few solo Carl tunes going into it so I'm hoping somebody has a set list. More specifically the name of the second song he played, it was simply beautiful.

I saw one taper so I'd imagine the show will be available soon.

Great night of music in that small space.

Couple of covers Carl did solo with looping / effects - Once in a Lifetime & Lollipop

Full band did Carried Away, 4th of July, Sleepy Lagoon, Blue Moon and a hell of a cover of Hurricane to close out.

Maybe 12 - 14 songs total between solo and band.   looked like Ray Lamontagne was jut chilling in the back of the room for most of the night.

Can't forget the sleep walk cover by Santo and Johnny right after carried away.. Might have been my favorite moment of the show.
Who thinks to cover that tune? Just mesmerizing.

Please tell me you know the name of the second song he played?

And I can't believe Ray was right in back of me the entire night, I looked over and definitely saw him but thought he was a guy from the opening band based on pics of them I saw (I missed their set).

The second song was Rockingchair Dancer from the new album.

What a fantastic show.  I was expecting about an hour long set but it ended up being about an hour and 45 minutes.  It was great to see Carl talking and interacting with the crowd which he doesn't get to do at all with MMJ.

Thank you! I will be buying the new album today.

Definite highlights for me were Rockingchair Dancer (obviously), Questions, Carried away>Sleep Walk

I will say I think that venue stunk. Acoustics were awesome, as expected with a Berkley venue, but the stage was way too short. I couldn't see anything but Carl's head the entire night. I took the lounge in back approach over the battle the 40 or so people up front. I couldn't see Bo, Patrick or Carl (while playing pedal steel) at all.
There is no reason why every person shouldn't be able to have a clear view of the stage for a venue that size.

seriously, with a small intimate venue that's only 1/3 full, you would have expected perfect sight lines....

I was up close so I thought the venue was pretty awesome, however I am not surprised that if you were a little ways back you weren't able to see much.

Here's a couple quick shots:
